The Roadshow people wouldn't be able to put a value on per-se, but it's such a great story that it seems like something they would use on their show. Unlike yourselves I would take my gorilla display to the Roadshow. I wouln't expect them to evaluate but it would be neat to see it on tv...again.

I kinda picture them smirking and pursing their lips, and not taking the whole thing that serious.... I' d be shocked if they even knew what it was.

Okay, POTA peoples (and don't snicker), found a shot taken of me in my room wearing the Cornelius costume given to me by MEGO.  The cartoon like wall up to my elbow is part of that APE HOUSE which I posted a pic for previous.  Yes, those are all original posters too.  Thankfully that all pin holes when I got them from being used in theaters.  If you look real close and 1/4 of the way down on the right-hand side you can see the tip of a POTA glider.  It had about a 3ft wing span and flew very well.  It's long since been gone after a fatal crash while playing with it when I threw it out the upstairs window.  That's one thing I haven't seen since.
So how much do you thing the suit would fetch if I sold it?  BTW - the arm extensions are my own the suit didn't come with them (the brown material that sticks out from the green sleeve).  I also bought these POTA slippers that were big yellow ape feet and covered them with the same brown cloth to wear with the suit.
Ah, the good ol'days.

Nope. Inside the NFL, which moved from HBO to Showtime (which I don't get). So far, it's not looking like I'm going to get to be able to watch it this Season.

Maybe a victim of their own success.

Speaking with a person from a PR firm for FOX Video he has confirmed
the following...

Both versions of CONQUEST will be on the disc. For the "Unrated"
Edition it will contain 12 mins. of footage. It will have a different
ending. It is a diffrent version not just altered with the added 12
mins. (Hope this IS true) The "Unrated" version of CONQUEST will NOT
be made available to standard DVD.

Both versions of BATTLE - Theatrical and longer versions.

As of now, bonus materials are still being gathered for this Blu-ray
release. It has not yet been decided which theatrical trailers are
being used.

They are still looking for more materials such as - deleted scenes from
teh films. As of now they HAVE NOT found the deleted scenes from
PLANET or the Prolog from ESCAPE.

According to his contact at FOX (who is working on this Blu release)
there is no BENEATH NATO featuette (I wonder who this FOX person is?)

As far as he's been told NONE of the special bonus materials eithre
gathered, or made for this release will be made available for standard
DVD.

I again offerd my aid and said I was will to discuss the use of
material from my collection - I doubt it will come to pass. I figured
that if they don't find the footage from ESCAPE I might allow use of
the slides I have - I doubt it will come to pass.

According to this contact I have been put on a list for a review copy
when it is available. For those of you who have visited my site I will
do a review as revealing and honest as I have the past POTA releases.
the reveiw copy isn't expected that much ahead of the time of street
date according to him so there's time.

remake) for the first time last night (maybe he's been living in a

why couldn't he beat up an ape?'

Can you beat that? He was also disturbed by the restraints used

delve into.

I had to be polite as I was at work but I'm curious what you think I

Rich,
Have hope.  It could be a publicity ploy to just to make the BLU sell more.  Right now with HD-DVD out of the picture there is opportunity for BLU, but not absolute.  It could still fail.  Numbers for its saturation are at a point that make it definite.  Common sense would make the studios start to develop release that make them more attractive with features not available on standard DVD release.  But if the number don't increase that's still money invested in production that might not stand up to the investment - in which case they will have to make it available to a format which can support the cost.
My God, look how many times FOX has release ALIEN, SOUND OF MUSIC, and the first POTA on DVD.  I bet if any of us had asked them about the next or proposed next release at the time they never would have said yes.  So, just hang on and lets see what the numbers are especially after the Christmas season.  I would be surprised if another standard release of the POTA film is announced.  Time will tell.

Denise,
If this co-worker was younger he/she is a victim of what I call being in a "bubble" (derived from LOGAN'S RUN film).  I've noticed that people under a certain age have grown-up with a life very protected, spoiled, self centered, and limited in education in terms of knowing only what they needed to memorize to get through school.  They very ignorant and narrow minded out side of anything standardize in education.  Having little or no imagination they calculate only on easily founded facts with little or no research beyond the easiest google search.  This limits how deep the analyze what they see and narrow their perception.  They dismiss anything out of the ordinary realm and are overly politically correct, not to be sensitive, but more popular.  You can't expect them to see deeper than the amount of footage between their eyes and what their watching.  They can't.  And if you should try to discuss this with them they will dismiss you with a smirk of self pompous and misplaced assurance of self bloated security in thinking your wasting your time in ridiculous matters.  (All this of course while reminding themselves not miss their appointment with their therapist.)
In other words - let the asshole walk their own way, but keep an eye open for when they trip.

If you do decide to get a new Blu player keep your eyes on the new Panasonic the M55
It's not out yet, but should be in time of the POTA release.  It seems to have a lot in terms of updated features that others don't have, and the price is down a bit from ones currently out.  Also, Panasonic has a better tract record of running better with discs with newer features.  The yet to be released Panasonics are also in their 4th generation which makes them ahead of other companies in terms of development - which translates into ironing out flaws.  Also they are up to date in terms of firmware versions.

there'll be something available on the internet shortly thereafter. So
we will all see it eventually, either through an eBay purchase or a

Based on this photo shown on eBay item number 130193071050, it looks like
it was an actual location shoot and not a constructed set.

OK, so who's up for an reconnoitering trip out to Malibu Creek State

Speaking of locations, I remember looking at some then & now photos from

they on this site, or did I see them somewhere else?

Actually, the price of admission is pretty close to the price of 2001 on disc - I've seen it discounted online going for that price.  Somehow with the crap that the studios were first making available on Blu (mostly recent movies that bombed in the theaters) it makes you think, if the format began with garbage and is slowly growing will those first buyers even be interested in the like of 2001?
I only hope that with the 2yrs since Blu's introduction a better rounded and more tastful group of people are interested in the format.

For those of you who have visited my site I will
do a review as revealing and honest as I have the past POTA releases.
the reveiw copy isn't expected that much ahead of the time of street

why couldn't he beat up an ape?'

Can you beat that? He was also disturbed by the restraints used

delve into.

I had to be polite as I was at work but I'm curious what you think I
could/should have said. I did point out that CH was slightly
outnumbered. It wasn't just him and 'an ape'. Honestly, some people!
He's one of these poor modern filmgoers today that's been ruined by all the moronic movies with Arnold, Bruce and others where their characters can beat up anything with just their fists and feet, and outrun the fireballs from the largest explosions. POTA was made back in the era when they kept it real in terms of what could or couldn't actually be physically done.

Even James Bond movies suffer from it now. Everything is a comic book nowadays. It sucks.

They can't.
- Scott B.
Do you know what that Panasonic M55 will go for? I really don't want to spend that much on a Blu-ray player, so I may go with trying to get a good used one (last year's model Panasonic -- I'm loyal to that brand) on eBay.

Blu-ray 'Has Five Years Left,' Says Samsung Exec

by Donald Melanson, posted Sep 4th 2008 at 3:43PM

While we can't say if it represents a general sentiment at Samsung or not, the company's UK director of consumer electronics, Andy Griffiths, sure went out on a bit of a limb in a recent interview with Pocket-lint, with him saying that Blu-ray has, to paraphrase David Bowie, only "five years left," and that he "certainly wouldn't give it ten." He did say, however, that he thought 2008 would be Blu-ray's year, adding that "it's going to be huge", and that Samsung is "heavily back-ordered at the moment."

As for Samsung's future after Blu-ray's supposed demise, Griffiths seems to think that
OLED will be the next big thing, and he's pegging 2010 as a possible date for it to become mainstream and replace LCD. He didn't offer a prediction as to when it will die out though.

Well, I want to get a Panasonic Blu-ray player when I do get one. I've been kind of loyal to Panasonic ever since I was given a Panasonic audio cassette recorder in 1970 by my two grandmothers. I used it primarily to record my favorite TV show themes and eventually used it to tape the audio when PLANET was first shown in 1973. (I've been the way I am for some time.)

Also, the name "Panasonic" is very close to "Panavision" (even though I know they have nothing to do with each other) and that's what PLANET was shot in.

I'm afraid you are. I don't want to sound really negative here, but this version of CONQUEST is only going to be available on Blu-ray, and any of you who think otherwise are dreaming. Having it only on Blu-ray is a way for Fox to promote the new DVD format. Even I wouldn't make it available on standard DVD if I were Fox. As they said in THE GODFATHER, "It's nothing personal, it's just business."

(The studios really want everyone to switch to Blu-ray, and I'll bet they're damn mad that the economy is in such tatters -- thanks to President Dummy! -- that everyone doesn't have gobs of disposable cash to get Blu-ray players and discs.)

Also, since the original "preview" version of CONQUEST, with Governor Breck dying, contradicts a line in BATTLE spoken by Kolp, the re-edited "release version" of CONQUEST remains the official version.

Glenn,

For the most detailed account I would consult a really good documentary that AMC did called "Behind the Planet of the Apes". The cliff-notes version is that the longer cut of the the film contains much more violence than the theatrical version. The violence during the ape's riot is much more violent, so much so that the producers re-cut the picture to avoid losing their "family" audience. Its funny to think that the original 5 apes films all received a G rating from the MPAA. A wealth of resources on the subject is also the group's home page.

I will not go into further detail because I know this is a group for POTA and not Politics.
I think because POTA is such a great political allegory on the United States (and remember, of the two screenwriters, Rod Serling was very political, and Michael Wilson was a victim of the Blacklist), discussion of politics is very appropriate here, but if such things are going to easily offend someone, then one must simply learn to ignore them, otherwise it can get too heated. You have to just learn to let it go. Remember, opinions are like a@#holes -- we all have them, and they all stink!

Now then, on the subject of the current President... I called him a dummy. Well, I was thinking about it, and I think a better description would be one right out of POTA, and that is... A BLOODY BABOON!

Yeah, that seems about right to me.

Actually, I wouldn't be offended at all. I am very much in favor of
free speech, which is why I said it's never uncalled for. I wasn't
making a political statement, so much as defending people's right to
comment freely. If someone dislikes someone I like, I have no problem
with that--that's their right, and I'd never try to censor them for it.

Those are alternate scenes we know about. That doesn't mean that's
what's appearing on the disc.... My point still stands that no one
here knows exactly what will be in this "new" version until they
release it (or Scott gets his promo copy).

I'm very curious about this alternate version of the film. I wish it
were being released in standard DVD--I have no need for a Blu-Ray
player and don't plan to pick one up until DVD is out of the picture.

Why keep hoarding away these things instead of sharing them with the
few of us out here who would truly enjoy them? The few times I've
had "Apes" material that didn't seem easily obtained, I couldn't get
it to Hunter fast enough for him to make it availible to everyone.
Even if it was goofy stuff like the "Rerun Show", access to the
1974 "Musical trip" album or making the surplus of "Ape Glyph" T-
shirts I won in a bulk Ebay auction up for grabs. I like knowing
there are others out there who enjoy this franchise the way I do. Can
you really get that much pleasure knowing "I have something you don't
    have"?

By that I mean I used to think that it'd be cool if, for instance, they found the cut opening sequence from ESCAPE and added it to the film... But now it's like, "Why would I want that? Who needs two opening scenes in one film?"

I'm not even sure how this runaway chimp bit will work in CONQUEST... Will they how him get killed by the police at night and then suddenly cut to the opening we already know, that of the apes being trained? I hope not! Hopefully it's cut together in a better way than that...

As far as actual cut scenes from "in" the films, those being added might work okay, provided the score doesn't get screwed up and they can master the film well enough so that everything looks pretty cohesive... Oh yeah, and the looping would have to be correct too.. I mean you couldn't have a relooped line, then the cut bit with the originally recorded, and then cut back to relooped audio...

And BTW, I am really surprised that they're still looking for anything at this point in the game... I mean approximately eight weeks before the "release date" and they don't have it together yet? This project should have been started sometime in 2007 (or earlier) to give them sufficient time to really do it right... But, as some others on this board have said, this is starting to look like a "rush job" after all...

I certainly hope that they can find those deleted scenes.  It would just make for a complete movie if they did.

Conquest Of The Planet Of The Apes Previously Unreleased In The U.S., A
Newly Unearthed Message From ANSA And More, This Ultimate Apes Set
Arrives on Blu-ray Worldwide This Fall From Twentieth Century Fox Home
    Entertainment

CENTURY CITY, CA – Humans are even uglier in High-Def when Planet Of The
Apes: 40 Year Evolution Blu-ray Collection takes over the Earth November
4th in North America and throughout the Fall Internationally from
Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment. This spectacular set includes
all five hair - raising Planet Of The Apes films on Blu-ray for the
first time, including Beneath The Planet Of The Apes, Escape From The
Planet Of The Apes, Conquest Of The Planet Of The Apes, Battle For The
Planet Of The Apes, and the 1968 original Planet Of The Apes, which
stunned audiences with its now-iconic conclusion and shockingly
dystopian view of humanity's fate. From an age of film when science
fiction served as allegory in addition to providing thrilling spectacle
and edge-of-your-seat adventure, the Planet Of The Apes franchise set
the gold standard for Sci-Fi films. Now the films that changed the face
of science fiction forever will be available in the ultimate home
viewing format. This year's Comic Con International 2008 provided fans a
first look at some of the exciting extras to be featured on the Blu-ray
    discs.

Planet Of The Apes: 40 Year Evolution Blu-ray Collection is packed with
exclusive new High-Def content. As a special treat for Apes fans, the
collection includes an unrated version of Conquest of the Planet of the
Apes. Previously unreleased in the United States, this version includes
eight minutes of unrated footage. Other new special content includes an
"Evolution of the Apes" documentary chronicling the evolution of the
Apes universe from novel to the big screen, an "Impact of the Apes"
featurette exploring the cultural impact of the franchise and a
never-before-seen public service announcement from ANSA about the
seminal flight of the "Project Liberty" crew. Each Planet Of The Apes
sequel included in the beautifully packaged collection will contain
brand new High-Def making-of featurettes and will be available for the
suggested retail price of $159.98 U.S.

In addition, the previously released Limited Edition Planet Of The Apes
Ultimate Collection will be available in the uniquely packaged ape head
just in time for the holidays at a more attractive price.

    Synopses:
The compelling and classic 1968 Planet Of The Apes stars Oscar-winner®
Charlton Heston (Ben-Hur, 1960) as an astronaut who crash lands on a
planet ruled by apes who use a primitive race of humans for
experimentation and sport. Beneath The Planet Of The Apes tells the
story of a daring rescue mission that leads to a subterranean city where
mutant humans worship a weapon capable of destroying the entire planet.
In Escape From The Planet Of The Apes, two futuristic simians who have
traveled to present-day Earth enjoy celebrity status—until a government
plot forces them to run for their lives! In Conquest Of The Planet Of
The Apes, apes have been domesticated and trained as pets and personal
servants—until their continual mistreatment leads to a spectacular
revolt. In the final Apes chapter, Battle For The Planet Of The Apes, an
idyllic society of man and ape is threatened by both a militant gorilla
and a tribe of still-intelligent mutant humans.

Planet Of The Apes: 40 Year Evolution Blu-ray Collection Blu-ray Disc

Thanks Zach! Rumor has it Dr. Branton married a Hollywood producer and retired;-)
Glad you liked Cornelius' Journal. It was a great experience doing and I'm sad that it is now over. Historian Doris Kearns Goodwin once commented how when she wrote a historical biography she would really get to know her subject, like Lincoln or FDR, and often missed spending time with them when the project was over. I think I understand that now. During the past year I got to spend one afternoon a week with Dr. Cornelius. I'm going to miss him.

I know I may sound like a loser, but... I just went to the thrift store to buy stuff for the haunted house I run, when, to my surprise I spot a somewhat familiar costume hanging on a rack.  It was an old Ben Cooper Cornelius costume.  No mask, no box, but the suit itself.  My mother and grandparents wouldn't buy it for me, back in '73-'74.  "You're almost a teenager. You're too old," they would say.  I felt like a kid again.  I had to buy it.  $2.95  I CAN AFFORD THAT!   It's in Near Mint condition.  But, one thing bugged/bugs me about it.  As with most APES merchandise.  It's authorized by Fox, but it's so inaccurate.  Like so many people on here have said in the past they really have no interest in it except that it makes money.  And this was when it was still "alive"  Oh well, I got it.  I love it.

Blu is certainly being pushed. Tonight, at the Arclight Hollywood
(Cinerama Dome) there is a screening of Kubrick's 2001 roadshow
version, and the first 100 people in line get the Blu ray Special
    Edition FREE. Admission $14.

But this "I have it, but I don't want anyone else to have it" mentality is so beyond selfish. He's also got an audio recording of Ted Post watching and commenting on BENEATH. The question then is "Where is the original 16mm print you found?"  But, evidently, Fox doesn't care squat about it.

There's other things that evidently aren't going to be included that I'm much more disappointed with, that being things like radio spots and TV commercials, and those mysterious "Dick Strout 'Radio Interviews'" mentioned in the PLANET pressbook.

The guy at Fox said that this was the first time the POTA films were being taken seriously by Fox Home Video, but it doesn't seem to me they're that serious.

How about commentary tracks for all the films?!?

I haven't thought to mention this before, but we should be prepared for a print that might not look all that great.  I really have to wonder if Fox has spent much time doing any "restoration" of this print that's apparently just been in storage all this time.  Fox found a complete "Roadshow" 70mm print of THE SAND PEBBLES, and included it on a two-disc DVD edition last year, BUT the print was very red and faded, and looked bad enough so that it wasn't included on the Blu-ray version.

So anyway, get ready for a print of the preview version of CONQUEST that isn't going to look as good as the "Theatrical Version," but hopefully I could be wrong.  We'll see.

No idea where that 16mm BENEATH NATO film is now...this was over 20
years ago.If was important to the BLU RAY, it could be gotten by the
    producers, I'm sure.

Regarding commentaries.. I believe I mentioned in a previous post
that I sent samples of my person-to-person interviews with cast
members to the BLU RAY producers, and they decided NOT to use them. I
resent rumors being spread that I have "hoarded" material. This is my
research that I (and Larry Landsman) spent thousands of dollars and
hundreds of hours to obtain. We haven't made a fraction of our
investment back on PLANET OF THE APES REVISITED, and perhaps one day
we can create another project to share it with the fans. But I do not
have the authority myself to just release material free into

I'm somehow under the impression that Conquest is going to be the original release with 8 minutes of deleted scenes added.

That includes Caesar's compromised speech in the end as originally released. Again, just 8 minutes of deleted scenes added.

There's really nothing in the description of the new Conquest that would suggest otherwise. So I'm really not expecting anything beyond that.

That's great to still come by a old ben cooper planet of the apes costume.i had them when i was young and loved them, even if the colors were off.i remember going to tss stores to but the rubber half mask and either tommy gun or rifle on cardboard backing. It was affordable and apes,i see masks now and realise how bad they were but loved them then.Yes im one of the biggest complainers about how fox and companies have let down and screwed ape fans over and over.I loved the megos but was disappointed with mainly the gorilla outfits and astronaut figure .it made me crazy,i remember writing a letter to mego about it ,why they couldn't do a accurate astronaut ,dr zaius costume ,etc. And like then as now ,they know we are gonna buy there inaccurate items regardless.I was so happy when medicon did their line finally a accurate sculpt of figures, only wish they did a full set of astronauts ,also the mutants from beneath also.  goapebilly

least it delighted me as a child, despite the flamboyent colors of
Urko's uniform and Galen \Cornelius wearing Tonto's moccassins.

I never meant to personally attack anyone. I'm just someone who has
always loved this franchise & since I'm not going to be given access
to Fox's vaults, it just bothers me that there could be stuff out
there that (even after all this time) I may not have been able to
view. Either due to "collector" hoarding or because Fox hasn't
figured out how to make a buck off of it. No matter how you look at
it, Planet of the Apes is not the Jugernauat that it was when I was a
kid. Fewer & fewer people care about these films or their place in
Sci Fi/ make up history. It just seems that we should be shairing
photos, videos etc. with each other just for the sake that we all
still actually care. It had nothing to do with attacking anyone's
values. I bought 2 copies of your book (which I enjoyed) & would buy
a new book if you chose to do one but we all know that there
isn't "Star Wars" money to be made here. Sorry if it came across as a
    personal attack Mr. Russo.
