I disagree. Cornelius looked his best in Escape. Also, Ursus looked great in Beneath. I even think Watson's Cornelius prosthetics looked a little better than '68. To me, it wasn't until Battle that it started to look cheap and this was passed down to the tv show. Some of the tv prosthetics looked REALLY bad.

When I hear that Cornelius, or rather McDowall's makeup et all, looks best in ESCAPE as opposed to the original, I start to see red.  So, I've been compiling a bunch of screen captures from both films to show just how much better the makeup is in PLANET than any of the sequels -- but I've run out of time this afternoon to work on it.
 
However, in the meantime, here's a shot from BATTLE, a closeup of McDowall as Caesar just before he's about to go after Aldo for killing his son, that is in my opinion the worst the makeup looked in any of the five films and the TV series (though I'm probably wrong).  McDowall was doing the "building rage" thing from acting class 101, and he sucked in the appliances a bit too much.  I'm sure you're all familiar with this moment and often wonder as I do how it could have made final edit.

Funny. They also used a wide angle lens for the closeups that distorted his face, not what your showing but from other scenes. The scene where Roddy goes to Paul Williams "What do you know" "Thats what I know" said virgil. Yeah Battle has alot of problems. The TV series had too many Gorillas that looked retarted(for lack of a better word, no harm intented).
It just seemed like the crews got bored with the Apes uniqueness. The makeup was no longer a novelty to be wondered at. Escape though had a few two shots of Cornelius and Zira that did not match in makeup application or lighting, esp. in the cage after Milo was killed. Wierd conversation, take care, John M.

I checked out the page again, and there's five different covers. Three of issue 1, and two of issue 2. I'm curious if there's going to be a third cover for issue 2 when it gets closer to the release date?

I love how Cornelius looked in both films, original and Escape.But I also like his look better in Escape, love it.
As far as Battle I agree that was not as good ,yet I would take that over anything from the 2000 remake, or most likely the new film from what I have seen so far.
I also prefer Roddy's Battle makeup over the TV show's Galen.

I also don't think we need an announcement every time that Krueger's latest celebrity obsession (AKA James Franco) is about to appear on a talk show.

Publicity won't really kick in for RISE until a few weeks before it opens, and only in the week just prior to opening will the actors involved start to come out of the woodwork and talk about it. That's the way these things go. The studios want mum to be the word and everything controlled.

Franco was a wonderful Harry Osborn in the Spidey movies and clearly knows his way around a blue/green screen effect.Whilst I am resolutely hetero, I can see,like Jeff says, that he is a cute beauty (Franco I mean, not Jeff) and he now has a box office status that can only help Rise to do well.He seems a good combination of intense and relaxed and he's a gazillion, billion times better that 'one expression Marky Mark'.Personally, I think Rise really struck lucky with Franco and I'm looking forward to seeing what he and Serkis give us--it could be something special.John, Scrolls.

Franco was a wonderful Harry Osborn in the Spidey movies and clearly knows his way around a blue/green screen effect.Whilst I am resolutely hetero, I can see,like Jeff says, that he is a cute beauty (Franco I mean, not Jeff) and he now has a box office status that can only help Rise to do well.He seems a good combination of intense and relaxed and he's a gazillion, billion times better that 'one expression Marky Mark'.Personally, I think Rise really struck lucky with Franco and I'm looking forward to seeing what he and Serkis give us--it could be something special.John, Scrolls.


I can't remember where I came across the article a couple weeks ago, but it was an anti-Franco thing.  Some people are getting sick of him already.  If I were his manager, I'd tell him to keep a lower profile.  I remember the article also said his books got mostly bad reviews.

"Rise of the Apes" staked it's claim on August 5th and soon "The Smurfs" blinked and moved their release date. Now comes word that another flick, the alien invasion movie "The Darkest Hour" (because you can never have too many alien invasions) is moving on as well. I can't guarantee that all this movement is over fear of "Rise of the Apes" but it does give one stinking pause.
That leaves the body switch comedy "Change Up", the drama "The Whistleblower" and the comedy "Dirty Girl" to go up against the Apes. Caesar will have them for lunch.

My original question about when these were going to come out got buried in the landslide of posts here so thanks to anyone who may have responded. I finally found out on my own. These look nice - they have the same vibe the original comic magazine that came out 30 years ago had. I think I would rather they stay away from the sword and sorcery approach, as that was big then and not so much now, and stick more with the aftermath of the ape revolution like the recent comic series did. Or at least try and fit somewhere into the film history. Anyway, good seeing anything at this point.

Cirque's newest show TOTEM just had it's North America premiere here in Charlotte after playing in London. The theme is evolution ...or the "myth of evolution" for those so inclined....so of course there were a handful of apes....a couple of chimps, an orangutang and a gorilla...being a live stage show, they are all masks but pretty well done and with more than a hint of POTA influence......Here's some shots I found online and some scans from the program....

I've just finished watching the TV series after so many years avoiding doing so. It's not as bad as I remember, although I wouldn't say it was good either; liked the warm buddy-buddy nature of it, even if it was a bit childish and repetitive at times.

However, getting onto the subject at hand, I noticed Carsia in the last episode as having blue eyes. Maybe it's me and my apparent problem telling the difference in eye colour, as previously noted in this thread (hazel isn't blue...). ;) When I saw her eyes weren't the usual brown, I remembered this thread and thought I'd check to see if anyone had noted Carsia... and it seems that they had. Anyway, I thought she had blue eyes.

  IGN visited the "Apes" set last year when it was called "Caesar: Rise of the Apes" and during this whole title change thing is sporting a photo of the visitor's badge. I kinda like that logo with what looks like a chalkboard in the background. The "school's in session" motif is cool. I vote for that.

  IGN visited the "Apes" set last year when it was called "Caesar: Rise of the Apes" and during this whole title change thing is sporting a photo of the visitor's badge. I kinda like that logo with what looks like a chalkboard in the background. The "school's in session" motif is cool. I vote for that.

Well, this is interesting.
It seems that riseoftheplanetoftheapes.com, .net and .org still belongs to me until March 2012.
It seems that my host server company re-registered it under my name prior to canceling the account.
 
If I'm reading this correctly, then most likely I'll return the site if I can get it back and running with the same domain name.
I mean, how offten is it that one can operate a web site with the correct movie title in the domain name? That would be very cool.
Only if of course if It's the correct title and final release date. We'll see once the trailer is released. If not then forget it.

Well, I just got off the phone with my ex-web provider and they just finished reactivating riseoftheplanetoftheapes.com, net and org.
The account was still in their system and I didn't want to wait any longer just in case it got deleted from their system and It would have been a lot more hasle to get back online. So the site will be fully restored online this weekend when I have time to upload the site.
 
Let's just hope Fox sticks to they're guns and leaves the tilte as "Rise of the Planet of the Apes."
There's been so many changes with this film that head is still spinning.

"Genesis: Apes" was the original script. "Caesar" was the Scott Frank version. "Caesar: Rise of the Apes" was what it was called during shooting. "Rise of the Apes" was the title in post-production. Ed Gross says the "Rise of the POTA" title "tested" better (suggesting POTA still has name power) but he hasn't returned my e-mail as to who his source is.

You can never judge a movie by a trailer anyway.
It would just be nice to see if the trailer officially has the title "Rise of the Aplnet of the Apes" on it. 
 
As for the official site's domain name, I'm sure Fox will stick to Planet of the Apes.com as always, so no finger cutters will be necessary for my domain name. :o)

George Clooney is producing a movie called "Argo", about how the CIA enlisted Hollywood to help during the 1979 Iranian hostage crisis. A key to that mission was John Chambers and Jack Kirby. When I interviewed John, he said his work with his government was what he was most proud of in his life. Now, with his most famous Hollywood creation, "Planet of the Apes" ' makeup, going CG, maybe Hollywood will give John his due in another way. I say "maybe" because it remains to be seen what this script is (it's based on a 2007 article in "Wired" magazine). Will Chambers be portrayed, will the characters be fictionalized?
Ben Affleck is reportedly the front runner to direct (if that makes you laugh, see "The Town"). So we'll have to see where it goes.

I bought April's SFX Mag this morning and it has a small blurb about Rise, with the Franco pic.It still quotes the November release date.When you think about it, SFX Mag will only have three more issues between now and the release of Rise, ditto SCI FI NOW Mag, and so far we've only really had the one pic, an incorrect relaese date and, indeed, incorrect title now.As these mags are pretty much set months in advance, the chances of Apes getting good hard copy genre coverage look slim.A pity.John, Scrolls.

What Fox film opens next week that would have this trailer before it?  Also, I predict it'll simply be a teaser trailer with very brief flashes of stuff.  It'll probably disappoint.

George Clooney is producing a movie called "Argo", about how the CIA enlisted Hollywood to help during the 1979 Iranian hostage crisis. A key to that mission was John Chambers and Jack Kirby. When I interviewed John, he said his work with his government was what he was most proud of in his life. Now, with his most famous Hollywood creation, "Planet of the Apes" ' makeup, going CG, maybe Hollywood will give John his due in another way. I say "maybe" because it remains to be seen what this script is (it's based on a 2007 article in "Wired" magazine). Will Chambers be portrayed, will the characters be fictionalized?
Ben Affleck is reportedly the front runner to direct (if that makes you laugh, see "The Town"). So we'll have to see where it goes.

You're right that didn't. I don't know what the problem is. YouTube accepted this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B8UeV8TnZyM with no problems.

If anyone who has experience with YouTube can explain why one video is ok and the other isn't; it would be appreciated.
