Here is one of the greatest photos ever taken:

The event was A Shakespeare Cabaret, a fundraiser held at
the Hollywood Bowl on Sunday, August 19, 1973, to benefit the
Los Angeles Free Shakespeare Festival. It was a star-studded event, and
performers included Alice Cooper, Roddy McDowall, Jean Simmons, Jean Stapleton,
Jack Klugman, Tony Randall, and more.
As seen in the photo above, Roddy McDowall attended the event in full
Planet of the Apes makeup.
The photo above has floated around the 'net for several years as a very
low-resolution scan of a photocopy, usually
mislabeled as being from a Studio 54 party. After extensive research
online over the past few years, I've uncovered newspaper ads, articles,
and a review of the event, along with a couple of other photos. In all of
that time, I had only found three photos.
In May 2020, a friend of mine discovered the magazine page below featuring
"Alice's Friends" at the event, which provided a major upgrade
of that image.
Then on June 25, 2020, I happened upon ten eBay auctions selling prints
of Roddy McDowall and Jean Simmons together at the event. The images can be
seen below. Unfortunately, the seller was asking $14 per photo, and I
wasn't about to pay that. So I grabbed the images from the auction, even
though they've been watermarked.
