Dave Ballard has lovingly restored the original artwork
used for the covers of the French versions of the 1970s Marvel
Planet of the Apes magazines. The original covers were painted
by Jean Frisano for Marvel's French distributor.
Some notes from Dave about these covers:
Of the apparent 19 French issues, there were 10 that are of particular
interest to Ape-fans as they featured either:
- An original POTA inspired painting
- An image adapted from a U.S. cover painting
- An image adapted from a U.S. interior 'splash page'.
(Note: The remaining 11 covers featured either non-POTA subjects (Doc
Savage) or were straight re-prints of original U.S cover art. You

These alternate covers have all been kindly supplied by Alan Maxwell
who wanted to share these uncommon images with the rest of fandom. I
was unable to find any credits for the French artists.
