Watched a new commercial for RISE last night during "Rescue Me," this one ending with a quick shot of a gorilla roaring in the face of a downed cop, lots more footage of the revolt.  Quickly edited and emphasizing the action, this commercial should get everyone excited.

pretty "video-game" to me... I guess we misread each other...

"Rise" is at Comic Con today and Fox has released a "sizzle reel". WARNING: At the very end there is a major spoiler about the fate of a main character.
But otherwise, this reel sizzles! Lots of new stuff.

The Varese Sarabande website now has an August 16th release date for the "Rise of the POTA" soundtrack. On the plus side they now list the tracks.
Well, they'll lose the impulse buys before the movie comes out so I guess the movie and score better deliver.

Fox didn't really seem to make a big splash at Comic Con with the new "Apes" movie; they didn't drag in the stars or anything ("Prometheus", Ridley Scott's first science-fiction flick in 30 years, seemed to make a bigger impression at the presentation). But they did bring in "Rise" director Rupert Wyatt and Andy Serkis to field questions. All the footage shown has already debuted on the internet (the Lithgow clip, the rallying the troops clip, the new "sizzle reel").

Just a quick note to remind anyone who is in the area & might be interested: Exhumed Films in Philadelphia is screening all five of the original PLANET OF THE APES movies on Sunday, July 30. Admission is $20, doors open at 10am. The show will start promptly at 11am and will run until approximately 8:30 or 9pm.

If you've never been to an Exhumed Films show, we try to make our screenings more of an "event" rather than just a showing of movies. In addition to the films, we'll also have some APES props and paraphernalia on display in the lobby, a local home made ice cream vendor who promises some "Ape-inspired" flavors, a table of rare cult, horror, & sci-fi DVDs for sale, prize giveaways, classic 35mm film trailers, and other surprises. Hopefully some POTA group members will be able to make it!

You can find theater directions and purchase tickets from our website at www.exhumedfilms.com; a limited number of tickets will also be available at the door, but if you are coming from a distance and want to guarantee that you get in, purchasing advance tickets is your best bet.

Thanks for reading, and I hope to see you at GO APE!

I doubt Goldsmith would have scored this anyway. Usually composers don't come back for the reboots.

But if the music I heard at Caltech is from the actual score, there will be plenty of Goldsmith nods in Doyle's work.

Rupert Wyatt has called it a "prequel" in Sci-Fi Channel magazine. At Comic Con he just said they're "working towards the 1968 film".
But I guess that's a moot point until we see what the box office is like. And whether Wyatt and Fox see eye to eye on the direction of sequels. There's already been a "Thor" sequel announced, but the director (Kenneth Branagh) won't be returning. And the movie got good notices.

I really meant his Beneath score if not for Patton. He was getting alittle to old by this time (Rise) but I could be wrong. Classical composers seem to go on forever and he is my favorite. A man who could thrive in so many orchestral styles. The 12 tone style is a frenetic and angry style, but unlike Rosenman (the 12 tone master for film scores))he could deversify easier, Bless Jerry, John M.

That's all I need to hear for it to be "official" for me.   It's a prequel, and I think they will "work toward the 1968 film," but hopefully they'll take their time; there can be many stories in a two thousand year time span.

John, you obviously hold "Conquest" in high regard; the music, everything. The more I see of "Rise", the more it reminds me of "Conquest" but on steroids, even the look. It hit me even more with that sizzle reel. The kind of Century City look. It really does look like how they would have filmed "Conquest" if they had the dough and the technology. Do you agree and do you dig that?
I think I understand where some are coming from.  They love the fantasy apes of POTA, but real world apes they're not too crazy about.  So, until this new CGI APES has them more like old-school POTA apes (in probable sequels)... APES just ain't APES.

It ain't my attitude, but I can dig it.

I love some of KONG2005. Jackson just got carried away with some of the jungle action. It gave WETA the experience to make "Rise" better.

Fun Fact: Jackson is a POTA fan and was going to do a POTA movie with Roddy. I noted two POTA moments in "Kong". In the long version one of the military dudes says something like, "This is New York. It was made for humans, not for stinkin' apes!" And at the end there's 3 military guys smiling and getting their pictures taken in front of Kong like the "Smile!" scene in POTA.

Now that I think about it, I'm going to agree with you. Roddy's performance in Cleopatra received a lot of attention because the movie as a grand historical epic. It doesn't mean that any of his performances thereafter weren't up to that level. Critics just aren't going to nominate a prosthetic-wearing actor for a major award....just like Andy Serkis likely will not get nominated being a CG actor despite great past performances and an upcoming performance in "Rise" that apparently put some crew members into tears.

I'm currently reading "Divinity of Doubt" by Vincent Bugliosi, where the Charles Manson prosecutor demolishes both sides, theists and atheists alike.

Fun fact: "Agnostic" was coined by Thomas Huxley, "Darwin's Bulldog", who advanced the theory of evolution and was the namesake of one of Jane Goodall's famous chimps. His grandson Aldous wrote the sci-fi classic "Brave New World" and the proto-POTA satire "Ape and Essence".

I believe that man created God and not the other way around. We are a superstitious and frightened animal and because we know our own mortatlity and we think we are something special we choose to create Gods and Monsters to pacify our reptilian brains, where the fear of strangers and ignorance and the fear of others are located. Sorry for threadcapping but that is also a theme of the original Apes in that "God created the Ape in his own image". Im not a communist but relgion is the "opiate of the masses"(slightly misquated) nowhere is it more true than this country where if you believe and God and Guns and have a disdain for the working man you will get elected over the canadate that truly cares for social problems of human beings but does not have a relgious foundation.
I hope if sequels ever happen to "Rise" ideas like these are furthur explored in a manner of the original Apes series. God Bless, John M.

Somehow as I watch the trailers, snippetts and all the new great clips Im starting to get alittle wierd about him(Caesar). The scene where he gesture Will to join him in the playground cage , which is just a front, gets me alittle unearved. Im starting to feel like Breck(Conquest) about the Apes. An unknown predjudice that bothers me. Serkis is really doing his job well. To be honest I feel like smacking him to grow up in a certain way even though I never touched my three kids at all. They(the filmakers) did prove in a way that we are predjudiced against anybody or thing that threatins us. Ofcourse I havent seen the whole film so this is just a stupid call on my part but I dont like being told what to do by an animal, or anybody else for that matter. Im kind of ashamed about my reaction since I always rooted for the Apes no matter what. I cant explain it.. Take care, John M.

Caesar wants Will to join him because he's afraid. I thought that was a really well done detail. The director said the movie is about a loss of innocence and how the relationship between Will and Caesar changes. Caesar grows up kind of sheltered. Both the director and Serkis compared him to gifted kids who don't know they're gifted. It sounds like a real good character arc, from innocent to toughened up leader. Like I said, and the director agreed with me, Moses. The original Caesar was like that too, raised in a circus living a sheltered life. Remember when Armando told him he'd have to disappear among his own kind and Caesar cried. "Rise" is really modeled on the originals, especially "Escape" and "Conquest".
It remains to be seen if audiences will accept it, since in big numbers they go for easy black and white villains and heroes. Caesar is more ambiguous, not the easy character of something like "Transformers". It looks like there will be blood in this movie.

up or very small down to the quantum level, you must admit, there's
more here than meets the eye.  If you wish you can think of God as
an anagram foe Good Orderly Direction.  It may seem chaotic, but
it got us this far.  You're either a pessimist or an optimist. I for one
have faith that Man's better nature will win out over the beast within.

No! It's not like it's "Twilight" or something. Get your priorities straight.

Jeff, will you be there at the red carpet, perhaps getting some interviews with the cast and crew and all the celebrities? Maybe you and Joan Rivers can discus the gowns? Can we expect a live pod cast? Maybe Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie will be there!!!! And you've got to crash one of those after parties! Maybe Mila Kunis would be your date? Ask her!

True. Most hard core Apes fans are over 40 or 50 and getting them out my be a challenge. Their are many younger fans though as I remember at the Zeigfield in NY in 2001 but its an audience that is very non-linear and its anyone guess how the turnout will be. It might all be "Ill wait for the Bluray/DVD", though Ill be their on day one in Manhattan, go old NY,NY...John M.

I'm with Dr. Zaius when it comes to the subject of mankind.  I think we're at a tipping point in the history of animal life on this planet, and man is proving to be a scourge and his own worst enemy.  The number one problem that mankind has... is mankind!  Even with all the technology and wonderful scientific discoveries of the last couple centuries, mankind is on the road to self-destruction.  Nothing is being done to check world population growth and that's what's slowly killing us.

James, the "Pizza Pizza" gag is very funny. It took me a moment, but then I cracked up. Nicely played.

I think RISE is going to present so much more story and character development than every other movie out this summer, that the public is going to flock to this movie.  People like animals and they are going to like Caesar.  I think RISE is going to create a whole new generation of APES fans.

And, as with ESCAPE, you better bring some Kleenex to this movie.  RISE will make you cry.  Even Jeff Krueger will cry.

Wait till we hear from the critics.  These are the quotes I expect.  "A Masterpiece!  One of the Best Pieces of Science Fiction to come out of Hollywood in Years!"  "The Best Movie of the Summer!"  "The Must-See Movie Event of the Summer."  "Better than AVATAR (even without 3-D)."  "If you don't go see this movie -- You don't care about movies!"

I even expect to see, though I won't agree with it, "Better than the original PLANET OF THE APES."

I went to go see CAPTAIN AMERICA yesterday, which is a nothing of a movie, and the trailer for RISE comes on before the movie.  People behind me were saying, "Well, that's another one we HAVE to go to."

Yeah, RISE is going to be HUGE!

I'm always for the apes....in POTA and real life. I am a supporter of the Great Ape Project and currently massing an army of apes to overtake humankind. The problem is with the bonobos: they just want to make love and not war. Totally botching my plans!! :)

I dunno. People seem pretty cynical about the CG apes and the idea of "monkeys" taking over. But they'll swallow as many superheroes and zombies as Hollywood can dish out. But the Lithgow clip seemed to move some people.

I have a B&N, but I don't expect them to carry this, so I ordered it

*** I'm predicting mildly to moderately successful at best... There seems
to be a lot of confusion out there as to what this movie is (prequel? reboot?
a remake of CONQUEST?) so that's not helping anything... Plus, a lot of
comments I've been reading seem to be split on the CGI apes... ***
