This is a Planet of the Apes Gorilla make-up appliance. It is made up of foam latex and is glued directly to an actor's face. After the appliance is on, a wig and hair pieces are added to give our actor the appearance of being of the simian persuasion. Similar appliances were used for the chimps and the orangutan actors as well. To stream line this process a pullover type of full head mask was also created for the background actors.
