Will Smith? Michael Bay?

I think I'm going to be sick. Well, at least we have the book and a couple
of decent film versions. I am getting a bit pissed off with all these bloody
remakes though. It's bad enough that Hollywood is churning out so many bad
films these days without them being bad and unoriginal too.

No, but they'd have a fair idea of how it looked.

Sorry, Rory said he didn't want an argument about this. I'll go quietly...

I was curious as to the content of the "Ape Shuffle" and "Planet of the
Apes/Star Trek" records. Any idea what these things are? I am particularly
interested in what on Earth "Escape to Tomorrow" is, on the B-side of Ape
Shuffle.

I think Yahoo has a files section - depending on the size of the files, you
could upload them there. Please! (I'm desperate - I've never heard any of
the above)

I watched the Oscars, as I do every year. It wouldn't be so bad, except that
due to the time difference in the UK I don't go to bed until 6am!

I wish I could, but unfortunately I don't seem to have it anywhere. It was
in an issue of Ape Chronicles, but I can't find my original copy.

If it's any consolation, you're not missing much. It was rubbish.

I've had several requests for these, but I can't seem to access the
files section since I don't have a Yahoo email address. The file sizes
are from 9MB to 14MB.

You don't need to have a Yahoo email address, just be registered with them
(a lot of people such as myself are only registered for the purposes of
posting to lists like this).

It doesn't really matter though, as I think the files section can only hold
about 20Mb anyway. And besides, us poor little modem users wouldn't stand a
chance anyway!

Guess I'll just have to keep searching for the records themselves.

Jeff would say "The Fly," but I don't see it.  "The Thing" could have been great, but they let the SFX get away, also they forgot about suspense.  I don't know, I guess I can't think of one off hand.

Are you talking about the Burton movie?   Actually, I think POTA got the bad rep for being 'cheese' because a lot of what's been done is rubbish.

For those that are interested, here's a pic ( although not a very good one)
of the 'pacifist version' Galen parachutist. I believe there is also a
'pacifist' Zaius, but I've never seen one ( yet ). Also Alan, thanks for
reminding me about that foreign comic, I no longer have your address, please
email me privately so I can get off my bum and send you a photocopy.
    Best,

The one I've seen is with the rifle - but either way, I still find the
notion of a parachutist chimp to be a completely bizarre merchandising
    tie-in!

(So bizarre that I just had to buy one, obviously)

I guess"Dune" is a remake. I liked it but it was too stagey. A good "Dune"
would be somewhere between the visuals of the movie and the storytelling of
the miniseries. By the way, they announced today in "Variety" that the new
"Dune" miniseries starts filming tomorrow for 4 months. It will be the next
2 books, will be called "Children of Dune" and will clock at 6 hrs. Susan
Sarandon will star (as Wensicia) and it will broadcast in '03. There's going
to be a special edition DVD of the first one this summer. And to think
Arthur Jacobs tried to do this 30 years ago.

Tower has a free magazine called "Pulse". Usually I like their video reviews. You'd think reviews in mag whose sole purpose is to sell videos an d music would be worthless ("It's all good! Buy!) but their reviews are usually pretty frank and even brutal. Anyway, their review of POTA is in the new one. I don't totally agree with it but here goes:

" A handsome and entirely unnecessary film in which Tim Burton tries to repeat the "Batman" formula: dressing an old story in dark sets and moody details and building it around an actor not known for expressiveness. Thing is, "Batman", storied as it was, didn't have the pedigree of "Apes", which is based on a cheesy classic. The 1968 version, with the insufferable Charlton Heston in probably his best work, so perfectly captured the simplistic horror and irony of the story that, truly, it was best left untouched; even with it's train of crappy sequels, it feels definitive. Burton's got better ape make-up and cooler sets and effects, and he's by tons and miles a better director than Franklin J. Schaffner, but his picture feels rote, forced and listless for all that. You could point a finger at Mark Wahlberg, an uninspired choice as an action man caught in a mind-boggling dilemma. But the fault lies in the laps of Burton and the screenwriters and producers who thought to revive the long-dormant franchise. Virtually nothing they come up with was worth the trouble, no matter what the box-office receipts have told them".

Oh ho ho ho ho!! Burton a better director than Schaffner? And THEN he woke up. I guess it takes all kinds. Spam.                                     - - - Jeff

"Forbidden Planet" has been making the rounds for a while. Cameron had it around the time he had "Apes". Frank Darabont was going to do it (he was also in the running for "Apes" before Burton got it; all these projects go through the same people). I think New Line has it now (the folks that gave us the "Lost in Space" movie, written by the guy who just won the Oscar for "Beautiful Mind"). Come to think of it, I haven't heard of any remake plans for "Day the Earth Stood Still". That's another Fox one. I'm sure it'll be announced soon.                               - - - Jeff

Come to think of it, I haven't heard of any remake plans for "Day the Earth Stood Still". That's another Fox one. I'm sure it'll be announced soon.

Just goes to show what kind of idiots are in charge out there.  I hear about them everyday!  The Day The Earth Stood Still was the most inspired Sci-fi flick of it's time!  Making an antiwar film in the middle of the Cold War!  Amazing they got away with it!  Now that takes balls!  And for those of you who think you have me pegged as some kind of war monger...that for you.  Just because I like guns, doesn't mean I think we should use them on people.  Though there are some things worth fighting for.  The right to bear arms comes to mind.  Isn't that odd?  I'd die for some liberals right to tell me I shouldn't be able to own the gun I'd defend his right to tell me that I shouldn't be able to own the gun I'd defend his right with...  Only in America.  Push the button Chuck!  It's a Madhouse!  A MADHOUSE!!!!  But an eclectically furnished one.

I think the root problem in Bethlehem and the rest of the Middle East is
that they treat God with too much respect.

      Hey,

I was just curious which of these upcoming blockbusters POTA fans are looking forward to most.

After some soul searching, I think I have to go with Star Wars: AOTC. My reason is simple: for me the Star Wars phenomenon is all about the movies. It started as a film that spawned everything else. I have already seen Episodes I, IV, V, and VI so to not see Episode II (or III for that matter) would make it incomplete. I guess if I had to make a choice to only see two new movies the rest of my life, I would have to choose Episodes II and III for that reason.

That being said, I have to admit that Spiderman is probably my all time favorite character from any medium. Especially the way he was originally conceived by Stan Lee, Steve Ditko and later John Romita. I love the concept of the character: the fact that he's an outsider, the bit about responsibility, the humor, etc. I have loved Spidey since an early age and the upcoming film is one I have waited my whole life for. But that's just it. I have gone 33 years without it and have survived. To me, Spidey is all about the comics: the original run that started in the 60s, went through the 70s and most of the 80s. That's when he was the best. And even though Spidey is all about the comics and I know the basic story, I still am dying to see it on the big screen, but that's just icing on a very sweet cake.

Given this discussion, it's kind of ironic that my enthusiasm for Spiderman was kind of killed by a "clone" saga. Oh well.

      How does everyone else feel?

      Matt

That's the biggest buncha crap I've ever heard in my life!  What they're doing in the Mideast has absolutely nothing to do with God!  If some religion tells you to go kill people and kill yourself, then you've been worshiping Satan!  They should wake the F*** up and smell the F***ing coffee!  I don't know of any legitimate religion that spouts that kind of Shite!  They must be thinking of Kali, not God.  The only excused killing is self-defense, and I think both sides have pushed the limits of that about as far as they can.  Right now it seems to be all about revenge.  That and borders . . . Invade.  Invade!  INVADE!!!!  Had to get an Apes reference in there somewhere.

I guess this "ape2boy" is selling off some of his collection.  Anyone know who this guy is?
Yeah, I know this guy. He's a real nice guy and was a really keen Ape collector. Thanks to him, I've been able to obtain some cool stuff for my collection. From what I can tell, this is about the third time he's sold his collection. I haven't dealt with him for ages so I'm not sure what the circumstances are for this latest batch of auctions.

Just another example of the lack of scrutiny placed of licensors in 1974 so they could create any generic crap w/ a POTA sticker on it.
This piece was made by Mattel and originally came w/ a holster ( featuring an official POTA sticker..making it an OFFICIAL POTA item) and was packaged in an open face box. For some reason, it has cross over appeal to toy gun collectors and usually fetches a pretty penny. Go figure.
They also made a rapid fire rifle and Tommy gun which each came with Gorilla masks. At least the inclusion of the gorilla masks kind of made them POTA-ish. Oh, yeah AND the stickers..of coarse.

I'm looking forward to "Star Wars" only because I've heard some great buzz (Harry at aintitcool.com saw a bootleg version of it and posted a review). Plus it's put up or shut up time for Lucas. I've never been big on superheroes so I'm neutral on "Spiderman" (I said neutral, not neutered). Cool trailers, though. I'm looking forward to "Minority Report" though it KILLS me how much Cruise and Spielberg are going to make, yet again. They seem like nice guys and all but, damn, when does it end? Someone should say, "That's it. You've made enough money. You can't work any more, go spend it. Let someone else make some dough". If you're someone who thinks animals have a right to be left alone by man, especially when it comes to whether or not they'll submit to going under the knife (which of course they can't knowledgeably consent to), then you care very much that surgery on animals not be done at all, or at least not be of an unethical nature. Those completely against it are anti-vivisectionists. The famous English writer H. G. Wells (maybe you've heard of him?) was an anti-vivisectionist and this led him to write the classic novel "The Island of Dr. Moreau."

Since my thoughts are welcome here, then what-the-hey here goes:
How many animals have died as a result of the animal testing that has
gone in in the past 100 years? How many antidotes for diseases have
actually been discovered via the practice of vivisection?
Granted, scientists have discovered all sorts of similarities between
human and non-human animals by "comparative anatomy" (the same sorts
of things that Zira did by comparing Ape and Human anatomy); nowadays,
with the "cracking" of the human genome, we can do a much better job
of discovering what makes each species distinct... WITHOUT committing
the "atrocities" on animals (in ESCAPE, the Chairman of the
Presidential Commission calls Zira's actions "atrocities", although he
suggests that IF she had not known that humans were anything more than
a mere animal then she would not be any different than any present day
human researcher who cuts up frogs & dogs & chimps, etc.).
We have yet to find a cure for AIDS, and it should be noted that HIV
is different than the AIDS-causing virus in apes (SIV, or Simian
Immunodeficiency Virus); there's an article in the latest DISCOVER
magazine about HIV-infected test-chimpanzees who have not acquired
        AIDS, and their plight.
There are those who argue that animal testing is absolutely necessary
for the discovery of antidotes/cures for all sorts of diseases out
there. I could see someone arguing that the ONLY animal lifeform which
should be used to test cures meant for humans is... the human animal.
After all, the HUMAN Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) will have a cure (if
at all) that affects HIV in specific--and NOT all other forms of
immunodeficiency viral agents, like SIV. Jerry Lewis' telethons have
raised how many millions of dollars in order to cure MD... and how
long do those suffering from MD have to wait before SOMEONE finally
        finds its cure?
The Nazis committed atrocities against Jews (and Gypsies and
homosexuals, etc.) in their death camps and concentration camps, using
them as guinea pigs in horrific experiments. This begs the question:
if the Nazis didn't consider the Jews to be human, then how could
scientific experiments performed on them be considered useful from a
        medical standpoint?
What about the hardcore violent criminals languishing in our prisons?
There are serial killers that will never be allowed back on the
streets, and they "enjoy" free lodgings, free food, and free clothing
        (while non-criminal homeless people--including veterans--eke out a
life sleeping under bridges, etc.). Why not have scientific
experiments that now are performed on innocent animals (with different
genomic blueprints) be, in the future, performed on those lowlifes who
have forfeited their rights to liberty/the pursuit of happiness/and
life itself? Why not pass some laws that will forewarn potential
perpetrators of violent crimes that IF they should dare commit their
crimes (which violate the rights of others), then they--by doing so--
will have forfeited their rights: society will then have not only the
right but also the duty to imprison them and--if the need is there--
subject them to the Scientists for medical experimentation.
This idea will horrify some out there, but it's not as if SF writers
haven't already addressed this issue with "cautionary tales". Larry
Niven wrote at least one story dealing with this issue (I can't
remember the title, but in one short story he dealt with the idea of
organ-harvesting from criminals in order to supply transplants).

Don't get the idea from this posting, please, that I'm necessarily in
favor of using violent criminals for "animal testing"... although I
must admit that it is a "use" to which these "lifers" could be put
that would actually have a subsidiary benefit to society at large. I
don't like the idea of excessive tax dollars going to fund the free
room-and-board that these criminals get. The threat of imprisonment
has not deterred criminals from doing their crimes--indeed, some gang
members out there consider it a badge of honor (!) to have "done time
in the joint". I wonder how many "gangstas" would dare to commit a
drive-by shooting if they knew that they--if caught, tried, and
convicted--would have forfeited their bodies for medical
experimentation? Imagine "A Clockwork Orange" without Alex's having to
sign the papers granting the State permission to perform the "Ludovico
        technique".
Frankly, if a convicted murderer were to go under the knife instead of
an innocent chimpanzee... I wouldn't really lose all that much sleep.
How about you, Rory (or anybody else out there)?

he's done that I can actually stand to watch; his VAMPIRES movie--
despite starring James Woods--was wretched), but mostly for Rob
        Bottin's magnificent SFX.
As cheesy as it was, I actually enjoyed the De Laurentis remake of
KING KONG. Updating the plot to feature an oil company venture
(Petrox) instead of a Hollywood film crew was so appropo.
Instead of re-making FANTASTIC VOYAGE, they should get the rights to
adapt Asimov's novel FANTASTIC VOYAGE: DESTINATION BRAIN. It's the
same idea (and not really a sequel to the original film/novelization),
but it has other Asimovian ideas in it that tie in to his Robots/
        Empire/Foundation series.
The remake of THE FLY was terrific--Jeff Goldblum gave probably his
best performance (i.e. the psychological changes he undergoes after
the gene-splicing with the fly). Yeah, it was gross, but what do you
expect from a horror film with THIS subject matter?
I finally rented SOLARIS... and was astounded that ANYBODY could
consider it "magnificent", let alone "Russia's 2001". It was a
stupendously boring piece of excrement, and although I haven't read
the novel it's based on, I can't imagine myself shelling out money at
the theater to see another version of the story. Although there's
something to be said for remaking the CRAPPY movies, and leaving the
great films alone. That said, then they shouldn't dare to touch
FORBIDDEN PLANET; campy, yes... but magnificent!
Incidentally, Crichton's novel SPHERE (and the so-so flick based on
it) is pretty much a rip-off of FORBIDDEN PLANET, the "sphere" somehow
giving the "brain-boost" to Sam Jackson (et al.) that the Krell
machinery gave to Dr. Morbius. Crichton's novel TIME-LINE (which I've
heard is going to be made into a movie) was, however, quite excellent.

one of the "tools" that are used against the human race (read William

        notion)?
"...we don't treat God with respect..." you say; well, "God" hasn't
treated the human race with much respect either. First he supposedly
tells the Israelites "Thou shalt not kill/murder"... and then in the
first book after the Pentateuch (i.e. Joshua), he commands those same
Israelites to commit genocide against the Canaanites. Not very

Peter Jackson wanted to remake "King Kong" but with the "Godzilla" remake
and the "Mighty Joe Young" remake (with our friends Rick Baker, Ralph Winter
and the "Apes" writers) Universal pulled the plug and Jackson moved on to
"Lord of the Rings". If he'd done "King Kong" who knows what woulda
happened; one of those paradox thingies. Anyway, he still wants to do "Kong"
and he certainly has the clout (and finances; all 3 LOTR are paid for from
the first one and the next ones, already filmed, are pure profit).
Cameron is a big sci-fi buff so it's possible he'd consider that other
"Fantastic Voyage" book. But he's not exactly quick on the draw; he hasn't
directed since "Titanic" 5 years ago. Well, he has an IMAX documentary about
the Titanic coming out and he's directing the last "Dark Angel" of the
season, but no new features. As for "Solaris", I've heard it's boring but I
have the feeling Soderbergh and Cameron loved it. By the way, Soderbergh
says the first film he remembers seeing was "Planet of the Apes".

The constitution protects even the worst criminals against "cruel and
unusual punishment" so I don't think that would work. Plus it
wouldn't be any more of a deterent than the death penalty which
numberous studies have proved is no deterent at all. And if we're
respecting god's will there is a commandment that say "Thall shalt
not kill" and I don't recall any there exceptions to it. Hey, 'Ape
Shall Never Kill Ape' wouldn't it be a better world if everyone
believed 'Human Shall Never Kill Human'.

Well, I guess if I HAD to choose I'd pick the murderer over the innocent chimp, and I'd lose no sleep over it, but I don't see others letting that happen since it would imply that human life isn't more valuable than that of the other great apes and most people are ready to accept that.  I know some people would be willing to die in the place of their pets or favorite animals, but most of humanity feeling that way?  No.  People still cling to the idea that we're something special (much like the belief in God and that he cares about us).

TIME OF THE APES. But the
latter was made for TV, so it probably doesn't count.

Time of the Apes wasn't in theaters in Japan?

        .html

I just got an email from Tripod telling me that they will be cutting the free space available of 50 megs down to 20 megs. So I need to switch to something else that's free and also has at least 50 megs available. Does anyone out there have any recommendations? I know this is off topic and such, but I really would hate to have to cut out material on my POTA site just cause Tripod is being a bunch of dicks. I know they have to make money somehow, but they shouldn't have given out something they were going to just take away later. That's just poor business planning. Geocities, fortunecity, and 50megs.com are not options as the file size limit is 256k and/or the bandwidth per month is tiny. Are there any other free services available out there? I don't have any money to spare so pay services are out of the question.

        Any help would be appreciated.

That's a film I've been wanting to see for years, but I'd want to see
it letterboxed and all. I haven't bought it because I'm not sure it
would be something I like. My guess now is I'd probably not like it
either, but I'll have to give it a look sometime -- I'll just never
        buy it.

        -- Rory

***The copy I rented was letterboxed and had its original soundtrack
(i.e. original Russian language, with English subtitling). It's on a
2-tape set, total running time around 2:45. I rented that and 4 other
flicks, for a 'five-for-five-bucks' deal, so the actual amount of cash
I spent on SOLARIS was just one lousy buck... but I still felt ripped
off, it was so boringly horrendous. The ONLY thing I found enjoyable
about it was whenever some character said a word that translated into
English that reminded me of Anthony Burgess' book (and Kubrick's film)
A CLOCKWORK ORANGE; for example, whenever somebody said "chelloveck"
the English subtitle said "man". Burgess invented (for his novel) an
interested slang language for his droogie hooligans called "nadsat",
which included a large number of Russian words (like "chelloveck",
etc.). I read the novel when I was in my Junior year at high school, a
friend of mine having turned me onto it; he and I (and the other
friends we got to read it) picked up a fair amount of "nadsat" and
used it to talk in code--mostly to insult our teachers without them
having a clue that they were being disparaged. Of course, it backfired
once: my Senior-year English teacher--whom I casually referred to as a
"grazny vonny soomka" (nadsat for "dirty smelly old-hag")--
nonchalantly replied, "Oh, you've read Burgess, have you? He's an
interesting writer, wouldn't you agree?" My jaw hit the floor--not
only at the fact that she "one-upped" me, but that she didn't take
offense at being called a "dirty smelly old bag". I think she was just
happy that I was actually reading books other than the books I HAD to
read for class. Come to think of it, she was astounded to see me
reading Dante's PURGATORIO after our class had covered the INFERNO
(which was the only portion of the DIVINE COMEDY that we were required
to read); I think it was a first for her--most of the 17-year-old
students she taught weren't bookish, and usually didn't dig the stuff
        we read in class.
Maybe someday I'll pick up a copy of Stanislaw Lem's book SOLARIS,
just to see how different it is from that godawful cinematic waste of
time that was based on it. Someday... maybe.

        .html
*** "...cruel and unusual punishment..." Let's define our terms.
"Cruel" is a matter of taste. Some think that life-imprisonment is
cruel (and for non-violent crimes, I would agree); others think it
isn't harsh enough, let alone cruel. One COULD define "cruel" as any
punishment that actually involves inflicting physical pain... which
wouldn't be a problem if the condemned criminal were to have an
anaesthetic pumped into his bloodstream prior to the actual organ-
        harvesting procedure.

"Unusual" depends on what society decides the "usual" punishment (for
a given crime) should be. Society (through legislation) COULD decide
to make the "usual" punishment for, say, murder (and child
molestation, and torture, etc.) to be Death... AND the harvesting of
his/her organs as reparations to victims of violent crime (as when an
innocent bystander is shot, and needs a new kidney or liver--why not
that of the creep who fired the shot?). If every single perpetrator
arrested and tried for the worst crimes (murder, etc.) would be
treated the same--given identical punishment--then whatever that
punishment is would be the "usual" one. The reason the Constitution
protects us from "unusual" punishments is because there can be no
fairness if only SOME people are subjected to a certain kind of
punishment, and not ALL; in other words, if some perpetrators are
given favorable treatment, then other perps could be said to be given
a punishment that is not actually the "usual" one. If every
perpetrator could anticipate having his/her organs harvested as
punishment for their acts of murder, then that punishment would be the
        "usual" punishment.

The word "punishment" actually derives from the Latin word for "pain"
(as does the English word "pain"), "poen-". The words "penitence"/
"penitentiary" also derive from this root. The idea (at least
etymologically) is that "punishment" SHOULD be the infliction of pain,
as retribution for some misdeed. That's why so many countries
(including ours at one point) practiced flogging; even a self-
punishing, "penitent" monk would flog himself, inflicting pain on
himself as punishment for his evil/sinful thoughts (think of that
scene in THE NAME OF THE ROSE, where the homosexual monk lashes his
        own back).

As for the deterrence factor, frankly, it doesn't matter to me whether
or not these hypothetical punishments deter others from committing
crimes. If only ONE person is deterred, then it's worth it (and
there's really no way to know how much or little of a deterrent any
punishment may be without being able to read the minds of random
citizens, and checking out their brainwave patterns to see whether or
not they willingly repressed the urge to commit murder/molestation/
rape/etc. due to a fear of the well-known punishment (i.e. organ
harvesting, medical experimentation, etc.). It is a fact that a
condemned prisoner who is either put to death or "used" for
experiments will NEVER have the opportunity to be a recidivist (i.e. a
repeat offender); if once-blind people are enjoying sight again,
having acquired the harvested corneas of convicted murderers, then it
follows that the murderer won't be able to see any would-be next
        victims.

As for "god's will" and the "Don't kill" commandment, I already
pointed out that in the book of Joshua, YHWH Elohim Himself makes a
blatant exception to that rule when he commands Joshua and the
Israelites who follow him across the river Jordan to slaughter all the
Canaanite inhabitants of the "promised land". Later on, "god" bestows
His favor on David after taking it away from Saul, whose only "sin"
was in being merciful to the Amalekites (whom "god" wanted slaughtered
completely--men, women, children, and their cattle!).

Would "Human Shall Never Kill Human" really be a good "law"? Aren't
there exceptions? I think so. "Murder" is the unlawful/wrongful ending
of another person's life; the word "kill" does NOT only mean "murder".
The word "execution" means the lawful/righteous ending of another
person's life. When a kidnapper threatens to slaughter a schoolroom
full of kindergartners, it is right and lawful for a sniper to kill
the bastard--in this case, "killing" is not wrong at all. When
soldiers (like our boys over in Afghanistan) kill the enemy (the al-
Qaeda terrorists), those killings are not murder; in the long run, by
killing terrorists, our soldiers will have saved the lives of all
those who would have been the next victims of those creeps.

The Constitution's Bill of Rights was written to safeguard the rights
of the people from the encroachment of unwarranted government
intrusion. The "rights" spoken of are considered (in the Declaration)
to have been an endowment to every person from "their Creator" (i.e.
whether "God"--for a Theist--or the Force of Nature, for a Skeptic).
Every person has inalienable (i.e. unable-to-be-taken-away) rights to
Life, to Liberty, to the Pursuit of Happiness (and to others, such as
Privacy, the ownership of Property, etc.). The only way a person can
lose those rights is if either (1) he/she is murdered (i.e. someone
else violates those rights), or (2) he/she FORFEITS those rights, by
having violated the inalienable rights of another. Executing a
murderer is NOT a violation of the rights of a criminal, because a
murderer FORFEITS his/her rights when he/she commits that crime.
Similarly, if society should decide that organ-harvesting should be
the "usual" punishment for certain heinous crimes, then those
criminals subjected to that punishment will have no basis to argue
that his/her "rights" are being violated, since those rights he/she
once had were voluntarily forfeited the moment he/she committed the
crime (which did violate the rights of his/her victim).

Incidentally, I'm looking forward to the Spielberg/Cruise flick
"MINORITY REPORT", which is based on a Philip K. Dick story... where
people are considered criminals if a "mind-scan" of sorts can tell
that a person WILL commit a crime (i.e. has a propensity to do the
act), with no regard for the fact that the "crime" is never so much as
attempted. Clearly, this "Dickian" twist is unwarranted in real
society, but it should make for a damned interesting movie.

you publish a Planet of the Apes story? If so, was it to a licensed

I read some where that a rapist or molester or something wants to be
castrated and released and there's controversy over whether they should do
that. What kind of punishments would they have on the Planet of the Apes?
They don't really mention any, except hanging. I think they would force
someone to slip on a banana peel. Spam. - - Jeff
