Sorry, I made a goof. She
wasn't asking for ideas, but she asked something like... "what would you want
to see in POTA 2... it's already written, I just want to confirm our efforts
are going to be received well..." or words to that effect. I don't really
remember. It's all archived in the group but I don't feel like looking for it
right now.
Anyway, she seems
convincing, I really hope she is on the POTA staff. That would at least
confirm the few good juicy facts she let out about the new movie. Guess
there's no way to be sure. I can only hope.

You got that right. It's a good way to
loose a lot of money in court. Your use of Yahoo! Groups is

.htmlWell actually I can play NTSC, that is different to the whole zone thing.
You see a lot of DVDs are NTSC and region free (Behind for example) and I
can play that just fine, but only zone 4 so far.
My tech skills are as good as your spelling Alex. I am focusing on
parenting skills at the moment.
Anyway if I am still invited to choose a DVD it will be Toons.
So who does have DVD burners in the group?

No problem, just send me your mailing address and you'll have it in JULY.
Best.
Al
P.S. You have EP2 and Spidey on DVD, and yet you have no burner?
What did you do? Use your high tech skills in buying? :o)

web design, however it really doesn't look bad so far. It is
basically for screen grabs with an episode guide and fan fiction.
I'd also like to have a collectibles page on site. Anything related
to the tv series. Anyone have any scans, or lists of collectibles?
I know of the annuals, and a couple of puzzles, the cards, scripts.
Some of you guys are into the figures, got any facts or scans for me
to use?

You can have copies of my mp3s from the TV stories record if you want to
make them available for downloading. They take about 45MB total.

*** I promise this won't be 10,000 words long...
One of the things that Lucas doesn't seem to "get" is the fact that a
space opera, involving ships that can zip all around a galaxy
containing literally BILLIONS of stars and planets, should be more
expansive than his multi-episodic "STAR WARS" series has proved to be.
In "Episode IV" (i.e. the original SW), we were introduced to the
desert planet Tatooine; we see a moon-sized Death Star; we see the DS
destroy Leia's home planet of Alderaan; and we see the Yavin system,
with the Rebel base on one of its moons. A fair number of different
worlds for the first real adventure.
In EMPIRE, we start out on the ice planet Hoth; Luke travels to the
cloud-covered jungle planet of Dagobah; Han & Leia go to Bespin...
another satisfying jumble of settings for this particular adventure.
But then, in RETURN OF THE JEDI, Lucas screws up royally--he even
admitted as much in an interview he did when it came out: he wanted to
"re-make" the original STAR WARS, with a "better" Death Star battle
(hence, his having the Empire build ANOTHER Death Star for the Rebels
to blow up). How many new worlds does Lucas introduce to us in ROTJ?
The Death Star in it may be a "new" one (albeit unfinished), but we've
seen it before--and we KNOW the damn thing's gonna get blown up...
it's a given. We are yet again brought back to Tatooine and Dagobah,
though the whole bit with Jabba COULD have been done on a planet other
than Tatooine (this is a galaxy with hyperdrive ships, remember). The
ONLY new setting Lucas introduces in JEDI is Endor, the home of the
friggin' teddy bear-like Ewoks. And what makes THIS particularly
eggregious is that it was originally planned to be the home planet of
Chewbacca--a planet of wookies! Now a battle between armed Imperial
Stormtroopers and a bunch of violent wookies would have made for a
much more believable scenario--but by having frickin' stuffed plush
toys defeating a sci-fi blitzkrieg... yeesh! but it was stupid. The
only saving grace JEDI had was the story of Luke redeeming Vader and
thus proving Jedi master Yoda wrong: the "good" side of the Force CAN
redeem someone who had been seduced by the "dark" side.
I'm also pissed at JEDI for compromising what would have been a major
thematic element: in the original screening (or so I've read), Lando
destroys the new Death Star all right... yet dies as a result--the
Millennium Falcon being destroyed in the blast. This tied in with the
earlier scene where Han Solo--from the cockpit of the Imperial
shuttle--looking at his ship, says that he has "the funny feeling that
[he's] never going to see it again"... In other words, Han Solo--who
hasn't believed in the Force (an "ancient superstition")--perhaps as a
result of being in the presence of the Skywalker kids (Luke & Leia)
has started to manifest one particular symptom of the Force:
precognition. Just as Luke could "see" into the Future somewhat, due
to the power of the Force, so too could Han Solo get a "funny feeling"
that his ship would be destroyed, and that he would NOT see it ever
again.
But preview audiences did NOT want the Falcon to be destroyed, and it
was due to that 1st audience reaction that Lucas re-shot the ending
celebration scene with Lando present, and appeased the fans, letting
the Falcon survive the Battle of Endor. Lucas compromised JEDI by not
killing off Lando (a noble end for someone who owed it to his old
friend for the earlier betrayal); as a result, the "funny feeling"
that Han had--that hint that even a jaded pirate like him could begin
to manifest the Force--was reduced to nothing.
And what has Lucas given us in Episode I (a horrid film) and Episode
II (a better film, yet still not as good as SW and EMPIRE) in the way
of "new" worlds? Since his "special edition" of JEDI included a CGI
shot of the Imperial capitol of Coruscant, its inclusion in Eps I and
II are not exactly original anymore (although they DO fit in better in
them, due to their plot significance, whereas in JEDI it didn't NEED
to be there). We are shown the new world of Naboo, where the beautiful
and primarily white humans flourish on the surface (and the black-
caricatured race to which Jar Jar belongs dwells "beneath" it, sort of
"in the back of the bus"). And instead of creating an interesting
world on which the young Anakin lived as a child, Lucas has to drag
Tatooine back into the mix (ye gods, haven't we seen ENOUGH of this
one planet?). Why does Darth Vader, in STAR WARS, not "feel the
presence" of the "midichlorian-infested" Jedi master Obi Wan Kenobi
(not to mention his own son, Luke... who just HAPPENS to retain his
own real last name of "Skywalker"!)? Why doesn't Darth muse to
himself, "Hmmm... I was here on Tatooine when I was a little slave
boy... and I returned to my home planet in order to rescue my mother
from the Tusken Raiders... and made the acquaintance of her last
husband on a farmstead near the Jundland wastes... the EXACT SAME
farmstead which my stormtroopers have decimated while looking for two
droids that escaped from the Councillor ship--a farmstead in which
lived a boy named LUKE SKYWALKER--hey, that's MY last name!--who is
missing...! Hmmm... something's fishy about this... I feel a tremor in
the Force..."
The inclusion of Tatooine in Eps I and II was a flaw, in my book.
Lucas should have invented a different planet for Anakin's childhood,
if for no other reason than to give us some variety (he has an entire
galaxy to play around in!).
I liked ATTACK OF THE CLONES much better than THE PHANTOM MENACE, but
I still believe that Lucas is pulling our chain about his having
dreamed up the "saga" of a 6 (or was it 9?) film saga about Anakin
Skywalker and his son Luke. I think that when STAR WARS went through
the roof (remember how the novelization was said to be from "The
Adventures of Luke Skywalker"?) box-office-wise, and Lucas knew that a
sequel would also be hugely profitable, he had to come up with a story
that would have a certain amount of depth... and it was only THEN that
he thought "Why not have Darth be the FATHER of Luke? Heyyyy...
wouldn't THAT be a corker!" Of course, this means that Obi Wan was a
goddamned liar when he told Luke that his father (the best pilot in
the galaxy... and a good friend) had been "betrayed and murdered" by
"a young pupil" of his named Darth Vader. Obi Wan's "explanation" for
this blatant lie (in JEDI) is a bunch of double-talkin' gobbledygook.
I think that making Darth into Luke's father was a great idea... but
it was really done after-the-fact, and NOT as part of Lucas' "master
plan" for the 6-film series he supposedly had envisioned way back
when.
I could be wrong, but my gut tells me I'm not. I've always had that
"funny feeling"...

*** I agree with T. A faithful adaptation of Boulle's novel would be
preferable to both a sequel of Burton's film and to the original
series' storyline.
The original series begins when Taylor gives his "final report"--the
EARTH-TIME date of 2673. When POTA became a series, it ended--with the
Lawgiver "frame-scenes" for BATTLE--in the year 2670: it comes Full
Circle.
In a way, we've already had the storyline "picked up" already, a
number of times: in the comic book stories (I'm thinking more
specifically about the Marvel originals, "Terror on the Planet of the
Apes" and "Future History Chronicles"). In TERROR, we have what seems
to be the same peaceful Lawgiver that we saw in BATTLE, preaching the
same message of multicultural tolerance and peace... with Brutus' Ape
Supremacy movement clouding the horizon.
There are a number of ways that a sequel to the main events of BATTLE
could be done (i.e. ignoring the Lawgiver scenes at the beginning and
end); one thought that I had (and which I'll be exploring in my own
mega-novel) involves the fact that Caesar's heir--young Cornelius--is
dead. With no heir to take over the mantle of kingship, Caesar will
have to establish another mode of government for the ape-and-human
society he hopes will live in peace for the rest of Time (i.e. beyond
the destruction date of "Thirty-Nine Fifty"--as he heard his mom say
it in the Archives tape). Unless, that is, Caesar and Lisa can beget
and bear another child to be the royal offspring who will eventually
govern after Caesar dies. But this depends on several factors. How old
is Lisa--Caesar's wife--in BATTLE? If we assume that she is about the
same age as Caesar (who was 18 years old in CONQUEST, which I've
deduced was 27 years prior to BATTLE due to Mandemus' line about being
the keeper of the Armory for that amount of time), then at the time
when their only child is murdered, she must be about 18 plus 27 years
old: around 45 years old. Does Lisa have enough time left to bear
another child? How early do "evolved chimpanzees" go into menopause?
What if she's too old to bear for Caesar a second child?
And what if Caesar's exposure to the radiated City should result in
cancer or leukemia in either himself or in any child he might beget in
Lisa? Even IF Lisa could become pregnant again, what might the chances
be that the child would be "malformed" due to Caesar's exposure to the
radioactive environment of the Forbidden City?
And... what if Caesar's son Cornelius was NOT his firstborn child?
Anybody else remember that scene in CONQUEST where Caesar and two (?)
gorillas ("superior specimens") are sent from Ape Management to the
"Breeding Annex" in order to inseminate female apes that had just
arrived there? Presumably, the humans overseeing the Breeding Annex
would make sure that the "stud" apes they'd introduced into the cages
with the females would fulfill their function and successfully
inseminate them. So, then... whatever happened to that flirty chimp
chick whom Caesar inseminated? It wasn't Lisa he boffed... it was a
DIFFERENT female chimpanzee. Did SHE bear a child? A son? A daughter?
Twins, even? What if... after the events of BATTLE, after Caesar and
Lisa try to have another kid (and, perhaps, can't)... what if the
grown-up result of that Breeding Annex insemination were to show up
and declare himself (or herself) to be the firstborn child of
Caesar... and the rightful heir to Caesar's "crown"? Granted, such a
child (by the time BATTLE happens, actually a 26-year-old grown-up)
would not be the favorite child--the child of his beloved wife Lisa.
[Compare this scenario with the children of Jacob/Israel, born to 4
different women (2 wives and their 2 respective servantwomen): it was
the firstborn son of Rachel (the wife Jacob worked 14 years to get),
JOSEPH (who was born AFTER most of his other brothers), who inherited
the "birthright" of the Abrahamic Covenant, passing it on to his sons
Manasseh and Ephraim--although the "sceptre" of kingship would pass
through JUDAH (who also was not the firstborn son, being the fourth-
born son through Leah, who was "hated" (Gen. 29:31)--that is, Jacob
loved Rachel more than Leah (whom he was tricked into marrying)--born
after Reuben, Simeon, and Levi).]
It became "standard practice" for kingship to pass from King-to-prince
(i.e. to the firstborn legitimate son), throughout most of European
history, at any rate. The succession to the throne--where no heir-
apparent is available--was often a bone of contention and the cause of
more than a few wars. If a monarch's legitimate sons and daughters
were either nonexistent or dead, one way around it would be for the
king (or queen, if there happened to be no king at the time) to
legitimize a bastard child (in legalese, to "acknowledge" him) whom he
had begotten on a concubine. A child born to Caesar, begotten on the
Breeding Annex chimp, could be "acknowledged"--publicly declared a
now-legitimate blood-heir to the King. Or, if the king (i.e. Caesar)
did not particularly like his bastard child, he could refrain from
giving that acknowledgment, in which case the illegitimate child would
have no legal claim to the throne.
That's not to say that those who favor him (despite his illegitimate
status) could not wage a coup d'etat and install him as their next
king, claiming that the royal blood in his veins qualifies him.
That's the trouble with monarchical governments: unlike our (the
USA's) Constitutional republic, with its clear-cut chain of
succession, a monarchy is beset by all sorts of problems, including
the death of a King whose heir is only an infant (requiring, then, a
"lord protector" to govern until the kid grows old enough--provided
the power-hungry protector permits it), or is retarded (perhaps due to
in-breeding), or is unfit to govern (i.e. known to be violently
insane, or unreasonably peaceful towards hostile enemies). But a
society that is foolish enough to deem one particular bloodline to be
"special" (either Royal or even Divine) and deserving of Rule over the
masses, sets itself up for all sorts of conflicts like those I've
mentioned above.
Does Caesar's community give up on Monarchy as a form of government?
At the end of BATTLE, Lisa refers to him as "a good and wise king"...
implying that somehow a monarchical form of government WILL be
perpetuated. Is Caesar's non-acknowledged son (or daughter), begotten
on the Breeding Annex chimp, "waiting in the wings" for his/her
opportunity to ascend the throne?
We POTA fans can only wonder...

*** Nope; there's no Time Dilation in Hyperspace. It's only travel
through Real Space, through Einstein's 4-dimensional "spacetime
continuum", where the relativistic effects of Time Dilation, Length
Contraction, and Mass Increase occur. Those effects take place at
velocities NEAR the speed of light (i.e. at, say, 99.999999999...%
lightspeed), whereas "warp drive"/"hyperspace" travel occurs at FASTER
THAN LIGHT velocities.

was more like 12 years. Here are two of my reasons for thinking this:
MacDonald was in charge of the Archives before the revolt and he can't
be more than 35.
I imagine it took Breck less than a year to use the bomb on his own
city. Caesar would have led the surviving apes and sympathetic humans to
the valley and begun to build the new settlement almost immediately
afterward. He and Lisa were young, in love, and optimistic about the
future. I believe they would have conceived Cornelius, who was 10 at the
time of Battle, as soon as they had a roof over their heads. There's no
way they would have waited 17 years.

BATTLE
*** If Mandemus were portrayed as a senile old fart, then I'd buy
into the notion that he was somehow mistaken about having
been Caesar's "conscience" guarding the Armory for
"twenty-seven years. However, remember earlier that MacDonald
says of him, "He may be old, but his mind's as sharp as a razor."
This suggests to me that Mandemus is telling Caesar (and us)
the truth: that he has guarded the guns for 27 years; the earliest
opportunity Caesar had to acquire an armory in the first place
was just at the end of CONQUEST, in 1991. Add 27 years to that
and you get 2018 as the year in which BATTLE takes place.
Furthermore, Breck did not "use the bomb" on his own city--at
least, there's no evidence that he HAD any bomb to use;
besides, the city would have most probably been hit by an
airburst (since the "lower levels" were somewhat intact,
according to MacDonald--the City having been designed to
withstand a several megaton OVERBLAST). No, the Nuke War
was some sort of worldwide disaster, involving the lobbing-over
of hundreds or thousands of ICBMs from all sides... destroying
human civilization.
And, chances are that Caesar would have led his "people"--the
formerly enslaved Apes--into the forested area beyond the
inhabited City sometime after his defeat of Breck's security
forces and before the Nuke War wipes out Breck's city.
Besides Mandemus' line about 27 years, there's also Mendez's
line about Kolp's impending attack on Ape City ending "twelve
years of peace", which Kolp had found to be "boring". This
suggests, to me, that the Nuke War happened 12 years prior to
BATTLE, and 15 years after CONQUEST. The conception of
Cornelius would, then, be within a year or two after the Nuke
War.
Feel free to concoct your own timeline, Anthony, but I'm not so
willing to just ditch a plain chronological line ("27 years"). As far
as MacDonald's age goes, its fair to assume that he is the
younger brother of the MacDonald from CONQUEST, and that his
supervision of the Archives might be--in part--the result of his
brother's influence in city politics. If the younger MacDonald were
just 19 years old in 1991, then he would have been 34 when the
Nuke War happened in 2006, and 46 in 2018, when BATTLE
takes place. The actor portraying him may look rather young to
you (i.e. younger than 46), but it's not out of the realm of
possibility that a black man aged 46 years would have as
relatively youthful an appearance as does Austin Stoker (the
actor who played him) in the movie.
But, to each their own...

*** The effects of relativity (i.e. Time Dilation, etc.) have been
proven thousands of times experimentally. The fictitious
"hyperdrive"/"warp drive" effects, as used in science fiction
stories, is--as yet--unprovable. However, look up Miguel
Alcubierre on any Internet search engine, and you'll find that he
has shown that it cannot be ruled out theoretically that a "warp
drive" type of effect can actually be created.

An idea was brought up a few months ago about how, if a new director was used
for a sequel, then they could make another movie sourrounding the original,
where Tim Burton could come back for a third movie and continue on his
series. That sounds good to me.

Is anyone in the market to buy British POTA comics? I have a near-complete
set of all 123 POTA issues (minus only issues 23-30) plus all 16 issues of
Mighty World of Marvel containing POTA strips, which I'm considering
selling. If you're in the market for them, feel free to contact me and let
me know what you'd be willing to pay for them. I've decided to unload
these in order to concentrate on putting together a collection of Star Wars
action figures. If you have any (carded preferably, or uncarded as long as
they're in great condition and with accessories), I'd be open to a barter
of sorts. So... anyone interested? :)

release matches how they are laid out in the ad. Could it be this is how
they will be released. If so, here's how it will be:
Sept: Cornelius, Soldier A, Lucius, Ursus (confirmed)
Oct: Zira, Urko, Zauis, TV Soldier (confirmed)
Nov: Taylor, Nova, Aldo, Zira Astro
Dec: Taylor Astro, Caesar (Conquest), Conquest Gorilla, Milo Astro
Jan: Cornelius Astro, Lawgiver
Any way, those are the ones being released. As I said, not a confirmed
sched but a hypothesis.

The sum of ape fears?
Not seeing a POTA sequel.
And as most, like myself having mixed feelings about POTA 2001. After
watching EP2 and EP1, I can't help but really enjoy POTA 2001 soooo much
more.
It's like a breath of fresh air compared to Star Wars.
It's funny, all those who I ask about EP2 and how they liked it.
They always give the same responce. It was better than EP1.
The only question is, what movie in all film history wasn't? :o)
Best.

*** "Star Trek: Insurrection"--in addition to being a horrible film--
was an affront to the very philosophy that Star Trek had championed
from the get-go. How dare they promulgate an "anti-technology" message
in a film which is part of a series that shows time and again that the
exploitation of Science and Technology are necessary for the
betterment of all sentient life! The "new-age" types living in their
little "renaissance festival" village are too friggin' selfish to
share the rest of their planet with others? How many square miles does
their little village take up? How many millions of square miles are
available for their plastic-surgery-indulging relatives? And they
can't share it? Remember when Kirk and Spock were around saving the
galaxy? They would have declared the la-la land new-age village to be
a non-viable society in the long-term, since they seem to have
eschewed technology altogether. Thus, when their star goes nova (which
it will, eventually), they'll still be stuck on terra firma, whereas a
techno-society would have long since exploited starflight and saved
their asses.
I tolerated "Star Trek: Generations". I liked "Star Trek: First
Contact". I absolutely DESPISED "ST: Insurrection". Let's hope that
"Star Trek 'Ten'" is more about what Star Trek used to be all about.
And please... PLEASE!!!... don't let whoever did the faggy theme song
for ENTERPRISE do the music for the movie!
As much as I hated THE PHANTOM MENACE, I have to begrudgingly agree
that it was ever-so-slightly better than INSURRECTION. But not by
much.

P.S. I'm going to see THE SUM OF ALL FEARS today, so I'll let you know
what I thought about it tomorrow. I haven't read the book, but I
understand that the terrorists who steal the nuke and detonate it in
America are--in the book--radical Islamic extremists, and not the neo-
nazis that the movie has. Given that the film was in production prior
to September 11th, I can understand the "politically correct" pressure
to change villains (you can ALWAYS bash Nazis... even though there
ain't a modern Nazi movement anywhere on Earth with the financial
resources available to Al-Qaeda), so as to placate Muslim groups. I
wonder if--had the movie not been green-lighted until AFTER September
11th--they would have been so quick to make the villains into Nazis,
rather than Muslim terrorists. Quite frankly, if they HAD gone with
Muslim terrorists in the movie, and if, then, Muslim groups were to
voice their outrage at the "stereotype" depiction of them as
terrorists, no one would give a shit... since the attacks on the WTC
and the Pentagon have proven to one and all exactly what those
bastards are capable of.

.html Can anyone out there make a really nice Wallpaper Background pic of Battle
for the Planet of the apes.
I need something in 800X600 or higher.
I need it for the Battle UNcut DVD Menu.
I was using the logo of POTA 2001, but would rather make an official BAttle
Background for this DVD.
The contest?
The winner will receive a Battle UNcut DVD along with a DVD request. Meaning
that you'll get toons or 2001 as well. (whichever your choice)
Let the contest begin.
Best.

.htmlI agree that Insurrection was a lousy film but it did uphold the
central theme of Star Trek. All individuals have the right of self-
determination and respect for that right. And if you remember Picard
suggests sharing it but the "plastic surgery" didn't want to wait
the years it would take for the planet's effects to work.
PS There are still plenty of Nazis in the world, this country alone
has many neo-nazi organizations as well as many that may as well be
Nazis like the KKK, FOX news anchors and the Attorney General.

Alan, If only you could change the Charator's in the Backdrop to Battle
Charator's, and make it to a sharp 800X600, I think that would workout. The
soft charactor backdrop would allow me to write in the DVD options without
it being lost in the picture.
Or if the e-group likes Cornelius and Zira, that would work out just as
well. But at sharp 800X600 or higher would do the trick.
James, your efforts will be rewarded. Thanks.

Would you agree with me that you would prefer to watch Episode 1 20 times
over (a la Clockwork Orange) than to watch POTA 2001 again?
By the way, I heard that "Enterprise" theme song in the closing titles to a
movie the other day - Patch Adams! It fitted well there. So it isn't even
ORIGINAL! They should have done something orchestral as they did in all the
other series.
I was still more entertained by Insurrection than I was by POTA 2001.

I'll perhaps get that done tomorrow - in the meantime, here are my
other two versions (in miniature so you don't have to spend ages
downloading).
The one with the logo filled in with pics I've already sent to Alex
but I thought I'd post it here for the group to see anyway - the large
version shows it off a little better, in my humble opinion but I'll
not send it out on the list!
Likewise, I've also attached a third one that I put together (what can
I say, I was really getting into this!) - again the small picture
doesn't show it off, but on the large version you can see that I've
doctored it slightly so that Aldo's face appears in Caesar's eye.

See if you can put it at a sharp 800X600 size. If it's smaller, it might get
a bit blury when placing it on the background of the DVD.
It's happened before, so that's why 800X600 is the smallest I can go for a
good sharp background on a DVD.
But yeah, again. That would be great.

Nope - because of its shape, there would be a lot of black space at
the bottom, or the top. Or both.
Not that it matters, I'm knocking these things up for fun now!

That's cool Alan.
James's 800X600 is the lucky winner. I'll find a way to put in those DVD
options somehow, James.
Thanks for the effort, Alan. You will receive an Ape reward.
Now I'm off to BURN.
Best.

By the way, all you guys that did the Battle wallpapers, you're very good and creative! I'm way out of my league here!

.html Okay.
Just made the BATTLE DVD that I'll be shipping out on Monday.
This will have the cross trailer (found on the Apes T.V. DVD Features) as an
intro, once you place in your DVD player. And will enter this MENU once the
trailer finishes playing.
I'll have a full list of requests posted onced mailed on Monday. So I can
double check everyone receving this DVD.
Here's a pic of the Menu, James. The word KRYPTONITE in lighter than BATTLE
UNCUT because it's the option that is highlighted to play.
Multi burns begins tomorrow.
Best.

In a few minutes go to: www.calima5021.com/battle-uncut.mpg
to catch a glimps of the DVD intro.
It's at low quality mpeg at 18 megs for two minutes.
Sorry, but that's the best I could do.

I don't think Lucas has started
writing "Episode 3" yet. Is this by your lady friend who also wrote "Apes 2"?

Don't know if this is legit or not.
Just stumbled upon it during my late nite net surfin. The page will take a
while to load, so if you're on a 56k modem be prepared to wait a bit.

*** Michael,
"Free me glazzies!" Well, I don't know about 20 times... that might
just make me want to snuff it. Although I distinctly disliked THE
PHANTOM MENACE, there was one little thing about it that got
me a-speculatin'... Anakin's mom doesn't remember how she
got preggers, and she's stuck on Tattoine--which is outside the
bounds of the Republic (and, hence, out of the "sight" of the Jedi,
who are oblivious to the Force-potential bloodline going on
there)... and the Sith are supposedly non-existent (at least, that's
what the Jedi had thought, if I remember right)... Could it be that
the Dark Force types, the Sith Lords, have perpetuated
themselves by "abducting" women and impregnating them, and
then using the Force to "wipe" their memories, so that they go on
with their lives not knowing how they got knocked up? Could
Anakin be the biological son of a Sith Lord--perhaps even
Palpatine, or Darth Maul? What's it gonna take to eventually drive
Anakin over to the Dark Side... could it be that he will discover
that he is the heir to those on the Dark Side, and that they will
use his familial loyalty to "turn" him against the Jedi? I guess
we'll all find out when Ep 3 comes out...
In regards to the faggy theme to ENTERPRISE, what particularly
disappointed me was that they had a golden opportunity to do
something similar to what they had done before: when STTNG
came out, they used Jerry Goldsmith's theme from STTMP as
their theme music (after, of course, the Alexander Courage intro
bit: "Space... the final frontier..."); I was hoping that ENTERPRISE
would take James Horner's theme music to ST2TWOK and use
IT as their theme. Horner's music for WRATH OF KHAN is my
favorite of the STAR TREK movie scores, and if guys like Harve
Bennett could have been in charge of producing the Star Trek
spin-offs (especially ENTERPRISE), I'm sure we'd have a much
more satisfying experience watching the show. I'm not all that
happy with how Star Trek has been handled on TV (that is, from
NEXT GENERATION and on)--give me the kind of show that feels
like the original series... back when they knew how to produce a
great dramatic show that just happened to also be sci-fi. The
Berman-run group has way too much technobabble in it, and
seems to think that classic Star Trek fans want to see a boring
soap opera set in the "Star Trek universe". Not me.
