As long as I am ranting...

The thumbnails take up too much room in my Groups list and that
means I have to scroll to the bottom to find everything and that
takes time! (And I really don't have many groups!)

But... where are the ads that usually take up so much room in the
text? Ah Ha! If they leave out the ads, the text works nicer...
And it sure beats seeing those ads!

I access the Group through the homepage, so I find the teeny bit of
extra time getting in to be annoying. However, I would give a lot
(I'm talking attitude here, not money) if they would leave the ads
off the page!!!

No, I didn't say "Apes" cartoon, I said "ape cartoon". The "King Kong" cartoon series from 1966 will get a DVD release on Nov. 15 to tie in with the new movie from Peter Jackson (so says www.tvshowsondvd.com ). No disrespect to those who worked hard to get the POTA cartoon on DVD for us, but maybe this will be more ape ammo to give Fox food for thought, at least an official release of the cartoon.
Some of us know that Arthur Jacobs' favorite movie was "King Kong" and it was the inspiration for his pursuit of POTA as a movie. But there was another important "King Kong" fan in the POTA universe.  In the book "Rod Serling" by Joel Engel (pg. 73), it says: "Throughout his life, whenever a television station played "King Kong", (Serling) dropped all other plansin order to watch. In California, his constant viewing companion became writer John Champion. Together, they saw the film at least 20 times over the years".  - - - Jeff

Yes, a set of Escape cards created to mimic the original Topps Planet cards is now available for viewing on Hunter's site:

As with the Beneath set I have to credit Neil Foster with the incredible art he created for the card backs and the wrapper. He did a fantastic job matching the original style, which really helps the illusion.

I'd also like to thank Kassidy Rae for her editorial assistance on the card back copy.

Also pitching in this go-round is Dave Ballard, who helped with some of the captions.

I'm putting together the hi-res files now, they'll be available on Hunter's site either later tonight or early tomorrow.

is wonderful--he seems to have filmed the 'his destiny' scene from
the back, with Lou Wagner out of costume and main shot feeding his

The Carol Burnett show appearance was when CBS was very high on POTA.
The first 3 movies had aired that fall to big ratings and CBS was
planning the TV series. I beleive the series started filming in June or
July of '74; so the Carol Burnett appearance was not long before.

I am pleased to announce that copies of the TV Series Herald are now
available exclusively to members of the POTA group.

For each of the five original POTA films, FOX produced and
distributed promotional "Heralds" (fictional newspapers) that local
theaters distributed to advertise the release of each new film.
However, no Herald was ever produced for to promote the TV series.

To celebrate the 30th Anniversary of the series our friends at
Simian Scrolls along with Mark Rogers, Kassidy Rae, Glen Scheetz,
and myself brought together our creative talents and produced a four
page TV version of Fox's "Heralds" as we imagine it would have been
back in the summer of 1974.

PDF Versions of the Herald can be viewed on both Hunter's

Up until now the printed versions have only been available to
contest winners and subscribers of Simian Scrolls. Now we are happy
to make them available to all members of the POTA group.

Getting a your own copy is simple, just send me a self addressed
stamped envelope (Legal size is recommended). That's it. Your copy

PDF Versions of the Herald can be viewed on both Hunter's
http://www.goatley.com/pota/ and Kass's
http://planetoftheapestv.150m.com/herald.html" websites.

Up until now the printed versions have only been available to
contest winners and subscribers of Simian Scrolls. Now we are happy
to make them available to all members of the POTA group.

Getting a your own copy is simple, just send me a self addressed
stamped envelope (Legal size is recommended). That's it. Your copy
of the Herald is free. To all those interested, email me for my home
address if you don't already have it.

There are currently several members of the group who's Yahoo

Bouncing is most likely caused by your inbox being full or by a spam
blocker on your mailbox, so it is pretty easy to fix.

When your membership bounces you don't have full access to group
resources and eventually are removed as group member. So it is a
good
idea to fix the problem as soon as you can.

Several re-activation requests and private emails have been sent to
the above members but all attempts at contacting them have failed.
Hopefully they'll stop by the group and read this post and fix the
problem.

Subject: Kelly "update" -- Finding Milo Project
.html
Emails have been flying through my inbox this week in the "Finding
Milo Project." Not much to report, but every email and phone call I
get inspires ideas for the next move.

Jim Rogers at APHIS (Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service) has
tried very hard to find information for us about Kelly's history, but
he couldn't find anything. He tells me that the one guy he knows of
who might have been helpful just recently died. It looks like APHIS
doesn't have records that will be helpful. He suggests I find a
contact at the CDC. Hmmm...

Another likely lead (a private party) fell through, which narrows the
search; but I don't feel any closer to a real answer. (Their "Kelly"
was born at their home and is only 10 years old -- although records
say she is older!) I am told that information is on it's way from one
of the research facilities, but nothing has arrived. I'm hopeful, as
this was another good lead. (Of course, I'm hoping that she has been
retired to a [real] sanctuary some place.)

I was told by a chimp breeder, "I hope Kelly was a girl, because she
would stand a better chance of still being alive."

That's it.

Subject: Chimp "Ownership" [OT?]
.html
This week I had a really interesting conversation with a woman who
has owned chimps for many years. She actually has some in her home
and wakes in the morning to chimps banging on the zoo-glass window
that separates her bedroom from theirs. She says that even though
the males are apt to vie for attention and show themselves as the
dominant male, that chimps are usually not violent. They tend to
behave like young children, though, and will react to some things as
if they were children having a tantrum. (That is a huge "in a
nutshell" summary and may be a little simplistic.)

Several on this group seem interested in real-life chimps. I'm
wondering if anyone here actually owns or has owned a chimp (or even
a monkey) and whether anyone here has experience working with them.
In fact, I have only seen chimps once, and that is just a dim memory
from my childhood. I'd be interested to know what experience you
all have.

I could be wrong, but I think Andrew Martin, Isaac Asimov's Bicentennial Man, was created on April 3, 2005.  (I'm not sure the original "Positronic Man" was created that day, but I'm quite sure Robin Williams's character was.)

So, happy day of birth, Andrew.  Welcome to the world.

I just came across a website www.newvoyages.com. Here a group of

Their work is rather impressive. They even got POTA alum William
Windom to appear in an episode. There's another site called TrekUnited
that has raised $3.6 Million to produce another season of Enterprise.

Wouldn't it be great if POTA fans could get together with Apemania and
produce a new sequel or episodes of the TV series.

Are there any fans out there who are independently wealthy or recently
won the lottery that would finance us? :-)

True, when the full screen version is shown on cable, you can read
    the 1983 on the plague.
I'm not sure but I think part of the framing problem is due to
Conquest being film in Todd A-O which has a slightly different frame
    dimension than standard panavision.

True, when the full screen version is shown on cable, you can read
    the 1983 on the plaque.

You can also read the 1983 date on the widescreen VHS of CONQUEST...

Bruce, is there any way to share those missing scenes from Conquest
on the Group? I'd love to see them. Screen grabs would be interesting
too.The worst violence in Conquest is what the Censor did to the
    movie! John, Scrolls.

That is correct... His speech was to end at the "And that day is upon you NOW!" line...

maybe some one can set up a yahoo survey about this.
should hunter give the "return treatment" to the alternate version of conquest?

    Bruce,

I wanted to ask you about this tape... I have an "extended version" of CONQUEST with two brief scenes added (Flame Thrower Handler set on fire and an Officer thrown thru the glass window) and the soundtrack restored as well... Does this sound like the same one you have? If not, what else may be different on your's? I ask because I am thinking of having Hunter do the same with CONQUEST as he did with the RETURN series... Let me know when you get the chance, thanks...

Yes Mike it's the same one. The gentleman I got it from also has the extended Battle version from the laserdisc and was working on improved versions of the first 2 as well.

With my primitive computer I can't reproduce them but I was told by someone other than the tape's creator that the violent scenes are spliced in from the Conquest movie trailer (though I'm not sure that's true ) and that's on the DVD.

And his ashes are to be shot from a cannon this fall, in accordance
    with his long-time wish!

Funny aside (well, I thought it was funny): my parents were divorced
when I was young, and at one time during my teens, I considered
changing my last name to my mother's maiden name (it's a long story).
Had I done so, my name would have been Hunter Thompson.

Speaking of DVD projects, how is the extras DVD coming? Do you have a
list of what will be included?

It's not yet. I've mostly been too busy with Real Work to even think
about it, but also have some other DVD projects in the queue.

No, but I hope to get that list together in the next few weeks.

    Thanks.
