.html.html If there is a Blu-ray commercial, my guess is it'll be aired on the FOX Channel during Sunday's lineup of The Simpsons and other toon shows that night.
Also perhaps on Monday during Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles on Fox. Of course there will be other channels and programs but those will be the most obvious overall. If there is any blu-ray commercial.

For those who have the G4 network, Attack of the Show is doing something on Monday.

Hi, folks,
Since I don't have a Blu-Ray player, I won't be picking up the box-set
next week. However, I'm very curious about the ANSA Public Service
Announcement. Whoever gets the set, I'd be grateful if you could
please contact me at my e-mail address, handleyr@..., as I'm
hoping to be able to find out what that's all about--and what has been
changed in Conquest, of course--for my book, which I'll be putting
the finishing touches on this weekend. (I figure people won't want
to be spoiled on the group, which is why I'm asking folks to e-mail me
privately.) Thanks in advance!
Sincerely,
Rich Handley

.html*** Whatever your thoughts or my thoughts are on the Broken Seas
audio are not at issue here... You've stated in previous posts that
to change or reinterpret things in a script that are obviously not
meant to be destroys the integrity of the original works, and that
nobody has the right to alter existing works to suit their own
ideas... I agreed with you on that on the most part...
All I'm getting at is that what ANSANAUT is doing is wrong and the
Broken Seas audio with it's changes "could be" seen as the same
thing: Tampering with someone else's work(s). You or I have no idea
of what Wilson or Serling had in mind when they wrote PLANET, but
what we seen on screen had nothing to do with Chris Shields rewrite
or Bill's adaption... There was nota hint of Milo, Mutants, ESCAPE,
etc. etc. in the PLANET script and more than likely neither Serling
or Wilson had any of that type of thing in mind when penning
PLANET... So whether we agree to adding backstories or whatever has
no bearing (and yes, I do think that fleshing a story out "can"
work!)... It's still tampering with another's work, that's all I'm
getting at and that's the way your post(s) read to me....

Sounds like it's James Brolin narrating that thing.

.html*** So because I misread your posts I'm subject to personal attacks? Face it, you're calling me (or anyone who misunderstands your POV) dishonest because I mentioned what you said in a previous post and what I thought you meant by it. There was no puttuing words in your mouth, they were posted and I took them one way and you said you meant another... Saying you meant them one way is fine, but there's no need to claim dishonesty on my part...
There is no "gotcha" sh*t going on, except maybe on your part... Someone says something about a female orangutan and you play the "gotcha" game by saying: "Can't be, the script says it's a male"...
And what about the posting guidelines, which as a moderator, you should be following...
Please be courteous and respectful of other members. While discussion and differences of opinion are natural, please keep all such discussions friendly without name-calling or attacking someone for holding a different opinion.
Accusing someone of "playing games" because they misinterpreted the written word(s), calling them dishonest because they attributed words you said to you in the context in which they took them to be, and calling them blind (i.e. "stupid") because they don't agree with you seems to violate everything that "posting guideline" states... Or am I being blind because it might say something else, even though I'm reading it as clearly saying such...
I have no problem with someone saying these things to me "if" they're not the same ones doling out all these "Let's be courteous" , "no personal attacks" etc... If you're moderating the board to make sure that everyone lives up to the standards of the Guidelines, then I sure think that you should be living up to your own ideas of what makes a good group...
I'll post again when I do a pet project... As long as someone is a member of this board their works aren't up to questioning of "why" or "how did you come to that theory"... If they're somewhere else, (a websight for instance) then it's okay to say "What is that about", bit as long as they're here then it's all "It may not be everyone's cup of tea" etc...

.htmlWell for anything that came across as a personal attack I apologize for.
But I had stated 3 previous times why I thought what BrokenSea and Ansanaut did were two very different things, yet you refused to accept it every time. And I'll remind you that you are the one who brought BrokenSea into this discussion, not I. You asked the question if my earlier comments about Ansanaut's script revisions also applied to BrokenSea's Audio adaptation. I answered your question and gave my reasons why. So when you continued to pursue the issue it seemed like you were playing gotcha and trying to get me to dis BrokenSea's efforts.
Also, I never said it was inappropriate for Ansanaut to insert elements of the later film' backstory into the script. In fact I said exactly the opposite in this post: http://movies.groups.yahoo.com/group/pota/message/49425. So in your last post it seemed that you were attributing statements to me that I never made.
And if you wish to bring up the female Orangutan yet again, I never thought it was a female from my first viewing of Conquest back in 1972. I never heard it refered to as a female until someone said it here. When that happened I checked the script and the script refers to it as a male Orangutan not female. It is not playing gotcha to point that out or ask if anyone has any evidence that it is a female.
And again I apologize for anything I said that was too harsh or came across as a personal attack. I should learn never to post late at night after I've had a few drinks. :-)

.htmlThis is a stupid concept. Okay so Caesar is genetically different - the all the rest of the ape aren't. So how could this lead to PLANET. Once again a re-write by another hack who doesn't THINK out the story, and subtracts ingredients needed to allow the story to flow.
Just like the dumb re-make of DAWN OF THE DEAD. By making it a disease and affecting only those who catch it - then there is no real reason to leave the Mall since they are safe even if one of them dies naturally. The dead outside will rot and numbers will lessen - not to mention no motorcycle gang broke in to mess anything up. The original was simple and worked. The remake in trying to be different mess up the natural flow and simplicity of the story.
Same her with this stupid GENESIS: APES. It falls apart before it begins. Typical of Hollywood today. What surprises me more is that the folks at FOX are so dumb I'm surprised it wasn't made already.
Oh, BTW - for those of us who were scratching out heads over the whole RACHEL RAY audience thing... I found out that FOX has a publicity agency who dreamed it up. seem one person there got together with someone at FOX and somehow brainstormed and felt "WOW, let us the Rachel Ray show to promo and target the new Bluray release to women! Everyone knows that women who cook love the apes! Yeah, right, it like a natural!
Well it turns out that what was seen given to the audience was only a mock-up of the Blu set. The real ones will be sent to them later. ....Yeah, I'm sure many of them are just waiting with baited breath for their mail to arrive. What a waste. Oh, seems one of the same person who brainstormed the Rachel idea also knows one of the Apemania people too (Zaius) which is why they got on the covers. It always amazes me how much shit can fit in a bowl.
By the way for those of you not familiar with Blurays and FOX. It seems that Fox has an annoying and disgusting habit of producing Bluray box sets that are cheaply made. The discs don't don't fit into plastic hubs like in standard DVD sets. Instead there's only a round rubber/sponge thingy that is glued onto the cardboard. When you press the disc onto it it fills the center hole of the disc and expands to hold it. Nice in theory but I've already gotten a BOND release where the rubber sponge thing had come off the cardboard on one and the other it arrived ripped in half - also, without the plastic insert as with standard DVDs the cardboard is really flimsy and cheap. This is pretty rotten considering we're paying close to $100! For longevity reasons as collector's it might be better to purchase the stand along editions to use since they are sturdy and made of plastic.

But yes, there will never be any "extra footage" on BENEATH regarding the "restoration" of Taylor's ship; one thing that I do agree with is that at the time of the release there wasn't another movie in mind...until months later when Paul Dehn received that telegram from Arthur Jacobs: "Apes exist, sequel required". I do appreciate your feedback on my thoughts, that's why we're here. I just thought that what I'd read on the Ansanaut site was logical, that's all. Zach -------Original Message-------

*** Is that because it would takes months and months (if not years) for Milo to repair Brent's burned out/destroyed ship (as the post you supported indicate)? Or was he searching for the mysterious third ship of the POTA in the months believed to exist in BENEATH? *** Once Milo got Taylor's ship dried out he found that the batteries still worked, there was enough fuel and an instruction manual on how to take off. Piece of cake. It's called "suspension of disbelief." Just go with it.
*** Hey, I'm with you on this... Mr. Zasco is the one with all the crazy ideas and I asked my smart-a*s questions in reference to those non-sensical "third ship" and/or "they repaired Brent's ship" ideas he keeps bringing up and when asked direct questions he has no answer for... I'd like a well written rebuttle to me, but I know I'll never get one... I'm sure unless I'd write a post saying how I seen BENEATH one time with a lot of extra footage, including scenes of Brent's ship being made flight worthy, I'll never get any sort of answers to my questions... Maybe if one of you guys who he likes asks him we'd get an answer... ***

You're forgetting one thing. At the end of Planet Taylor requests and is give food & water enough for him & Nova to survive for a week. Thus, Taylor & Nova couldn't have been wandering around the Forbidden Zone for more than a few days. The horse wouldn't have survived longer than a few days without food & water. When Brent encounters Nova she shows no signs of dehydration or starvation; so it couldn't be any longer than a few days after the end of Planet. I'll be honest. I hope the writer of the article is right and Genesis does sit on a shelf somewhere forever. If they really want to do something, why not adapt Planet of the Apes, as Boulle wrote it?

.html This is just a post to intro myself and say hi. I'm Melinda or Mel, from the Chicago area, 27yrs old. I've known about the franchise for like forever, but the interest just came on suddenly recently. I had been meaning to check the novel out from our little town library and finally did it and then had to get the movies on DVD from the bigger library I work at. I think it was bound to happen because I like dystopian and post-apocalyptic stories aynway as well as having an interest in 'furry' or animal characters. I'm very picky about what interests me and it's hard for me to find stories that draw me in.
Thus far I'm only through the third film but Conquest is the one I've been waiting for the most, so I'm looking forward to it. (yes I think they should make a sixth film because there's still a gap between Battle and the original.
Hey, can anyone just not get certain scenes out of their head? The Stewart-mummy scene, the 'you cut up his brain' scene, and that final narration from Beneath just won't go away lol. But then Beneath is creepy-ish anyway with the mutants.
I know I'm going to be one of those ones dissecting the whole time-travel paradox thing and wanting to discuss it; it's intriguiging but hard to wrap one's mind around lol.
The remake was on FX tonmight if anyone noticed. It seems they want back to the spirit of the ending of Boulle's novel for its ending. I haven't watched all of it yet but I taped it to watch later. (while I was watching Escape lol)
Anyway, just wanted to say hi *waves*

That's too bad. I met Forry in 2006 at the
World Science Fiction Convention. He was in a wheelchair and couldn't speak but
his love of science fiction was still there.
And let's not forget the tribute to him in
"Battle"; there's a street named after him in the mutant city.

I read online that Forrest Ackerman suffered a very bad heart attack and his chances of survival are slim. I know many Apes fans likely still have their FM's with Apes covers and such. This is a bad blow to genre fans, since Forry was the ultimate fan. He'll be missed. Thanks Forry...

There was definitely a push to make Laserdiscs sort of a 'videophile' thing
similar to the audiophiles who had all the high end stuff. In particular, when
Naked Lunch was released to home video, the studio made two different covers-
one for VHS and one for LD- to appeal to what they perceived as two very
different markets. As I recall, the VHS artwork sort of dumbed down what the
film was about (which is debatable in and of itself) to appeal to the masses.
They figured that the people who purchased LDs were "in the know" (so to
speak).
Chris L.
>>Ah, I remember those days too. Laserdiscs were just so damn
exciting. Couldn't wait to get a new release. DVDs just aren't the
same, not even Blu-ray. Everybody gets DVDs. Back in those days,
laserdiscs were special -- even the disc jackets -- and you felt so superior
owning them compared to the schleps still watching VHS. Funny thing...
nowadays, you couldn't pay me to watch a laserdisc. When I moved, I
finally threw most of mine away. <<
>>I went to Studio day each year they had it, (maybe it was more than
once a year, I don't remember now) but I was the only person that would
bring Battle up. The studio day that followed the Japan box release, Dave
(from fox)rushed up to me as soon as I walked in the door, excited to tell
me about it, but I burst his balloon when I said I knew about it and in fact
owned it already. I don't remember how I initially found out it was going to
be released, I was buying a lot of Godzilla imports at the time, it might
have been from Laser Craze on the east coast... But Ken Cranes in Orange
County had a better price. I was on the wait list at Ken Cranes' and drove
there and purchased it the day they got it in. Life was good.

myself that even likes it, much less thinks its outstanding."
I was at an auto dealer yesterday getting my car worked on, and while in
the waiting room surfing through the channels I noticed that 2001
was showing on TCM so I left it on. At one point, this girl came in (about
19 or 20 years old) who looked like a living "fashion" catalog came in and sat
down, huffed at the fact that MTV's Cribs (or something similarly
lowbrow) wasn't on, and spent the entire time she was there text messaging
("Omigod, why aren't there any single male supermodels waiting around the corner
ready to commit to me? Sex and the City says that's what life is really like.

Needless to say, you didn't get much of a hit of 'intelligent' hit off of
her.

I didn't see it until NBC ran it in the mid 70's, but I've always had an

that Michael Avallone fabricated in his novelization for BENEATH.

There was no third ship. It says right in ESCAPE that they were in Taylor's

Right, right, I had forgotten about that. Again, if I had to make an
educated guess, I'd say the publicity department realized that two of the
Mutants didn't have names. Obviously this wouldn't work out with the way the
BENEATH Herald was laid out, so they probably just made up names since they
couldn't use "Interrogator Negro" and "Interrogator Fat Man". I mean, they made
up a name for a leader of the Mutant General of the Defense (Ygli VII) with the
sidebar about individual training in the use of mental deterrents being
completed by the time of the planned Ape assault, so why not names for the
two mutants? It's not like any of them were referred to by name in the film
anyway, which is probably why they transposed the names for Caspay (under
Natalie Trundy's photo) and Albina (under Jeff Corey's photo). The thing is
though, Albina even sounds like a female name so that mistake is a little
strange to me.
Speaking of the BENEATH Herald, I thought the one sidebar about a
light leak being sealed was actually pretty creative.

No, Brent's ship was destroyed in the crash landing. Look at it.
Taylor's ship could have surfaced on it's own i.e. if an air bubble
formed inside and then drifter to the shoreline. I mean, if you're going to
accept the talking apes, time travel, telepathic mutants etc why try to be
realistic about how Taylor's ship was salvaged? It's called suspension of
disbelief.
Chris L.

That's called set design based on what the script indicated. I really doubt
they were that worried about set continuity when ESCAPE was in preproduction
back in 1970/71.

.html
.html
Forrest J Ackerman (born November 24, 1916) is an American collector of science fiction books
and movie memorabilia and a science fiction
fan. Ackerman, known as "Forry" or "4e" or "4SJ", was influential not only
in the formation, organization, and spread of science fiction fandom, but was
also a key figure in the wider cultural acceptance of science fiction as a
literary, art and film genre. Ackerman is also known as the editor-writer of the
magazine Famous Monsters
of Filmland, as well as an occasional author, actor,
producer (Vampirella), and literary
agent.
Ackerman or, "Mr. Science Fiction,"[citation
needed]saw his first "imagi-movie"
in 1922 (One Glorious Day), purchased his first science fiction
magazine, Amazing Stories, in
1926, created The Boys' Scientifiction Club in 1930 ("girl-fans were as rare as
unicorn's horns in those days"), contributed to both of the first science fiction
fanzines, The Time
Traveller, and the Science Fiction Magazine, put out and edited by Shuster
& Siegel of Superman fame, in 1932, and by
1933 had 127 correspondents around the world. He attended the 1st
World Science Fiction Convention in 1939, where he wore the first
"futuristicostume" (designed and created by Myrtle R. Douglas) and sparked fan
costuming. He has attended every Worldcon but two thereafter.
Ackerman invited Ray Bradbury to attend the
now legendary CliftonÂ’s Cafeteria Science Fiction Club, where Ray met the
writers Robert A. Heinlein,
Emil
Petaja, Fredric Brown, Henry
Kuttner, Leigh Brackett, and Jack
Williamson. And with $90 from Forrest, Bradbury launched a fanzine,
Futuria Fantasia, in 1939.
Ackerman helped found the Los
Angeles Science Fantasy Society, a prominent regional organization in
science fiction fandom, as well as the National
Fantasy Fan Federation (N3F). He also provided publishing assistance in the
early days of the Daughters of
Bilitis, and (as the author of several lesbian novels under the name
"Laurajean Ermayne") was dubbed an "honorary lesbian" at a DOB party.[1]
He is (or was) personally acquainted with many twentieth-century writers of
science fiction. He is noted for having amassed an extremely large and complete
collection of science fiction, fantasy and horror
film memorabilia, which was, until 2002, maintained in a remarkable
home/museum known as the 18-room "Ackermansion" in the Los
Feliz district of Los Angeles, filled with 300,000 books and pieces of movie
memorabilia. He has entertained approximately 50,000 fans at open houses since
1951, including 186 fans and pros in one memorable night, including astronaut Buzz
Aldrin. Ackerman is a board member of the Seattle Science
Fiction Museum and Hall of Fame, where many items of his own collection are
displayed. Ackerman received a unique 1953 Hugo Award for "#1 Fan
Personality" which some might say is the equivalent of the present-day Hugo Award
for Best Fan Writer.
Ackerman is credited with nurturing and even inspiring the careers of several
early contemporaries[2]
like Ray Bradbury, Ray Harryhausen, Charles Beaumont, Marion Zimmer
Bradley and L. Ron Hubbard. He was Ed Wood's
"illiterary" agent[3]
and represents 200 authors of science fiction and fantasy.
Ackerman has had 50 stories published, including collaborations with A. E.
van Vogt, Francis Flagg, Robert A. W.
Lowndes, Marion Zimmer
Bradley, Donald Wollheim and
Catherine
Moore and the world's shortest — one letter of the alphabet. His stories
have been translated into six languages. Ackerman named the sexy comic-book
character Vampirella and wrote the
origin story for the comic.
Ackerman is fluent in the international
language Esperanto, and claims to have
walked down Hollywood Boulevard
arm-in-arm with Leo G. Carroll singing
La
Espero, the hymn of Esperanto.[4]
Through his magazine, Famous Monsters
of Filmland (1958–1983), Forrest J Ackerman introduced the history of
the science fiction, fantasy and horror film genres to a generation of young
readers. At a time when most movie-related publications glorified the stars in
front of the camera, "Uncle Forry", as he's referred to by many of his fans,
promoted the behind-the-scenes artists involved in the magic of movies. In this
way Ackerman provided inspiration to many who would later become successful
artists, including Peter Jackson, Steven Spielberg, Tim
Burton, Stephen King, Penn & Teller, Billy Bob Thornton,
Gene
Simmons (of the band Kiss), Rick Baker, George
Lucas, Danny Elfman, Frank
Darabont, John Landis and countless
other writers, directors, artists and craftsmen.
In the 1960s, Ackerman organized the publication of an English translation in
the U.S. of the German science fiction series
Perry Rhodan, the
longest science fiction series in history. These were published by Ace Books
from 1969 through 1977. Ackerman's German-speaking wife Wendayne ("Wendy") did
most of the translation. The American books were issued with varying frequency
from one to as many as four per month. Ackerman also used the paperback series
to promote science fiction short stories, including his own on occasion. These
"magabooks" or "bookazines" also included a film review section, known as
"Scientifilm World", and letters from readers. The American series came to an
end when the management of Ace changed and the new management decided that the
series was too juvenile for their taste. The last Ace issue was #118, which
corresponded to German issue #126 as some of the Ace editions contained two of
the German issues, and three of the German issues had been skipped. Forry later
published translations of German issues #127 through #145 on his own under the
Master Publications imprint. The original German series continues today and
passed issue #2400 in 2007.
He also contributed to film magazines from all around the world, including
Spanish speaking La
Cosa - Cine Fantástico magazine, from Argentina, where he had a
monthly column for over four years.
Ackerman says, "I aim at hitting 100 and becoming the George Burns of science
fiction".
Ackerman currently lives in the new "Acker-mini-mansion" in Hollywood where
he continues to entertain and inspire fans weekly with his amazing collection of
memorabilia and priceless stories of the golden age of art, filmmaking,
literature and all things fantastical.
[edit]
Appearances in film, TV and music
In 1961, Ackerman narrated the record "Music for Robots" created by Frank Coe.
The cover featured Forrest Ackerman's face superimposed on the movie robot Tobor the Great. The
record was reissued on CD in 2005.
Ackerman himself appears as a character in Dead
Alive, The Vampire Affair by David McDaniel (a novel
in the Man from
U.N.C.L.E. series), and Philip José
Farmer's novel Blown. A character based on Ackerman, and his
"Ackermansion", appears in the Niven/Pournelle collaboration
Fallen
Angels.
A life-long fan of science fiction "B-movies", Ackerman has had
cameos in over 210 films, including bit parts in many monster movies (The Howling,
Innocent
Blood, Return of the
Living Dead Part II), more traditional "imagi-movies" (The Power, The Time
Travelers, Future War), spoofs
(Amazon Women on the
Moon, Attack of
the 60 Foot Centerfold), and at least one major music video (Michael Jackson's Thriller).
Thus, his Bacon number is 2.
Ackerman appears extensively on-screen discussing his life and the history of
science fiction
fandom in the 2006 documentary film Finding the Future.[5]
He has also appeared on the intro track of Ohio horrorpunk music group, Manimals' 1999 album,
Horrorcore.
In 2007, Roadhouse Films of Canada released a documentary titled 'Famous
Monster: Forrest J Ackerman' which takes a fast-paced, colorful look at the life
of science fiction's greatest fan. The documentary is currently only available
on DVD in the UK, but airs regularly on the BRAVO
channel. <.html <.html

I don't believe it was. One person posted here and said that the
statue he saw in KISSology resembled the one on eBay. But I don't
think it was the same one. For starters, the KISS "Statue of Liberty"
was more than 20 feet tall, which I don't remember the eBay one being.
It also had a face that broke off, revealing a skull underneath:

Sorry, I don't have faith in Fox. Their idea
of a sequel is "Alien vs. Predator" (or "Garfield 2"). And "Dark Knight" is an
exception. Audiences want "High School Musical 3".
The biggest joke of all is that at

actually KNEW then maybe we'd get a good "Apes".

.html.html Oh for sure!
I'm still considering buying the single discs as well. If I wait later for the prices to drop while having the boxset, most likely they'll only drop from $29.99 to $24.99 each (not much of a drop) so most likely I'll be picking up the single discs at Best Buy tomorrow. I'm not rich but since I rarely buy blu-rays, I guess I can afford too. :o)

For those who ordered from Amazon.com, I just received an e-mail confirmation that my Apes Boxset order was shipped out today.
Expected to arrive on the 5th (wednesday). I ordered it with 2 day shipping. Price was $91.95 complete total $98.93
So if anyone ordered, be expecting a confirmation soon from Amazon.
I ordered back in late september.
Al I got the same email about an hour ago, but it said mine would arrive on the 4th!
I'll believe that when I see it, but if it does come I'll be checking it out while I check out if Obama is President yet.
Al, I'll bet you'll be dropping by Best Buy tomorrow, just to have a look.

.html.html It was okay. The blu-ray promo lasted about 5 minutes.
But overall I thought the show went well, good funny moments with Apemania. :o)
The show will be over in 10 minutes or so.

I'm watching this thing right now on G4.
The Apemania people are pretty obnoxious, as usual, and so is the show. No mention yet of the Blu-ray release.

Bill Hunt of www.thedigitalbits.com is checking out
the Blu-Rays tonight and says the review will be up tomorrow morning. A pretty
good site. I'd like to hear what they have to say.
