I agree, "War For" would be a better title, kind of an epic-sounding version of "Battle For" (even though "Dawn" was the nod to "Battle"). "War of" is not official, just a generally accepted rumor. Maybe there's still hope for "World of the POTA", or better yet "Jurassic World of the POTA", that way it will be sure to be a hit.

I think the next one will find the human military trying to take out the apes, who attacked and caged the humans in "Dawn". Even though WE know not all the apes were into that, the human leaders don't and they will probably attempt a decisive war against the apes. Caesar will reluctantly have to back his own people and lead them to victory, perhaps being sacrificed in the end. The director made a point in saying that Caesar has a foot in both worlds, the human world where he grew up and the ape world that he's led, so having to choose will be painful and could be powerful depending on the script. "Dawn" saw Caesar in full hero mode, which is perhaps not as interesting. "War" (or whatever; "Whatever on the POTA"?) will see him going back to the "Rise" themes where his duty is not so black and white. Caesar might be forced to go to war and end human civilization once and for all.
  Maybe nukes?

Why isn't the title War FOR the Planet of the Apes?    War "OF" the Planet of the Apes seems inferior in comparison, doesn't it?

Any idea what's next?   Fox won't abandon this wildly successful franchise.    Fortunately for us.   :-)

.html

Don't know if anyone posted this yet, but The Mahoning Drive-In in Leighton, PA (Jim Thorpe area) is doing a GO APE marathon of the original five POTA films this weekend, projected from 35 mm prints. First three films (POTA, BENEATH, ESCAPE) on Friday night, Saturday night is the final two films (CONQUEST, BATTLE), plus a screening of the rarely seen "sequel" REVENGE FROM PLANET APE, which is really just the 1970's horror film TOMBS OF THE BLIND DEAD re-titled by unscrupulous film distributors and given a silly tacked on opening narration about how the zombies in the film are actually resurrected super-intelligent apes! Clearly it must have been released to drive-ins in the mid 1970s to capitalize on the popularity of the POTA series.

REVENGE aside, it should be a fun weekend at the movies! I'm coming from the Philly area for at least the first night's screening. Info below, if interested!

According to NECA, the apes sales for series 3 is not as high as the previous ones. So this could be the end. Just glad we had something new after so many years.

It's all good

.html.htmlWell, their marketing strategy isn't exactly the best for Series 3, so they're not helping their cause any... I mean they wouldn't even allow them to be sold on the Toys R Us website or at most of the regular retail markets... Sure, they have them for sale in the actual TRU stores, but the availability of them in store is so hit and miss it's not even funny...

Yeah, it's a shame. Their detail work is very good and at an inexpensive price. Would've loved to see some human characters. Breck, MacDonald, Armando, Mutants and all the Astronauts. They should have at least made them available and offer them online. But as they say, something is better than nothing

Question - "Where can I get these?"  Answer - "Almost nowhere".

Another classic example of "self-fulfilling prophecy".

I was able to order them directly from NECA, but you would have no idea about that by looking at the NECA website.  You have to go another website, which I only found out about through the POTA NECA Facebook page.  They certainly didn't make it easy.

I hope to buy them, but I'm not going to pay an arm and leg for them... They're cool and all, and the CONQUEST Gorilla looks awesome, but at least I have the apes they did from the first two films (the best films of the bunch IMO)...

I just think their main audience is interested in monsters. And really, POTA has never been a great mass market seller since the '70's. I thought maybe successful movies would change that but I guess not. It doesn't have the cool factor any more. Series 4 looks really good. If they could squeeze that out I'd be satisfied.

Yeah, it's a shame. Their detail work is very good and at an inexpensive price. Would've loved to see some human characters. Breck, MacDonald, Armando, Mutants and all the Astronauts. They should have at least made them available and offer them online. But as they say, something is better than nothing

Thanks Rory, I found the Cage site on Google Maps.  This has been bugging me for the last 3 days.  I also thought for a while that the buttes were the same as the ones seen from Ape City.  All the pictures and videos I found didn't help a lot, then after I saw your post I was looking on the wrong side of the rock pool.  It's so easy to find once you know where to look ;P   Crags Road (one of them) actually ends at the cage site.  This Google Maps link places the pin right on the cage site:   https://www.google.com/maps/place/34%C2%B005'51.9%22N+118%C2%B043'45.5%22W/@34.0977206,-118.7291615,139m/data=!3m1!1e3!4m2!3m1!1s0x0:0x0?hl=en    The steps can be seen directly south east of the pin.  The rock pool then is just south west of that.

Also, could someone tell me which times of the year would NOT be good to visit the park?

You're welcome. I was hoping to get out there this year, but it didn't work out. Maybe next year -- post drought, I hope, otherwise I think Krueger may dry up (isn't he often asked to?).

Turner Classic Movie is sure trying to get the most out of whatever they paid for rights to PLANET OF THE APES -- because they're showing it yet again at noon today, followed by the original THE FLY. It's an afternoon of Fox Sci-Fi at TCM.

That was a lot of fun.  There's something especially fitting seeing these movies at a drive-in -- out in nature, as the Lawgiver intended!

I highly recommend it, if you ever get the chance.

Had to pay over $129, but at least I have them, though right now I have
no interest in opening it. So, from what I can see through the
packaging, the paint jobs look pretty good, though I kind of think they
over did the wrinkels on Caesar's face. The Aldo sculpt is very good.

Anyway, I hope they release more -- I really want a Julius figure. Him
I'd take out of the packaging.

Doesn't that look like they're getting to things earlier than with the
other two movies? If they start shooting this fall, they'll be done
with photography by mid-winter and have nearly a year and a half to do
the CGI. Seems this one may be the "biggest yet."

I think that's the idea of pushing it back. They'll probably have more time to shoot as well as do the FX. Let's just hope the script is worthy.

Weird thing is that when I tried researching it, it seemed that this German translation could be bought from many sources, but I could not find any site with information on the English original.

It seems that this Bordell guy is some sort of movie/media critic.

I don't know what the answer is to increasing sales but expensive 3 packs are not it. Series 4 should've come first, a more interesting variety of apes. I don't think the ones in Series 3 are star players.
In the end I guess it's just a fact that POTA are niche collectibles. People are into superheroes, Star Wars and big ass monsters. And maybe "Home Alone"?  : )

Shoots Oct. 2015 - Feb. 2016. It is written by the writers of "Dawn" and is going under the working title "Hidden Fortress".
They're looking for a 9 - 10 year old "wild human" girl among other roles.

Dario pointed out that the casting announcement credits Pierre Boulle as the author of the book. I don't think Boulle was credited in "Rise" or "Dawn". Could it be we're heading toward a more traditional POTA scenario (Tim Burton's movie credited Boulle and was also more traditional - ape society and wild humans). With them looking to cast a wild human girl it makes it sound so. The title makes it sound like the Big War they were facing at the end of "Dawn" but what if this takes place 20 -30 years later after the final nail in the human coffin? But still within Caesar's lifetime.
Or maybe it is the final war we're expecting and the wild girl/Boulle credit refers to an epilogue ("Who knows about the future?"). Maybe I'm jumping the gun but it's obvious audiences have had their fill of nekid apes and are ready for a real POTA.
"War of the POTA" is expected to begin filming Oct. 14 2015.

Didn't Matt Reeves say that the next one was to take place almost immediately after the events of DAWN? Maybe they've decided to change that, but a Caesar twenty or thirty years older? I don't know about that, and I also don't know about this 10-year-old wild human girl thing -- sounds too much like the feral kid from ROAD WARRIOR meets Newt from ALIENS. Not quite original.

Somebody woke up on the wrong side of the POTA bed! : (
That is all my speculation. The only thing Reeves has said is they cut the military arriving in "Dawn" because he didn't want to limit what they could do. And he also compared Caesar to Moses, suggesting this is the last Caesar movie, but we don't even know that.
This is the time for FUN speculation, not assuming the worst. I've already cast it with my perfect cast:
Katee Sackhoff - Called the Harbinger of Death in the new "Battlestar Galactica" (creator Ronald Moore is a big Apes fan), I want to see a crossover to the new Apes movies, specifically playing the reason the apes consider Man the Harbinger of Death
Jackie Earle Haley - Kraik in "The Legacy" episode and an acknowledged "Apes" fan, he's shown his stuff as an actor and I'd I'd love to see him return
Kyle MacLachlan - Heh, well, I'm a big fan of his work with David Lynch ("Blue Velvet", "Twin Peaks") and he's slated to return to "Twin Peaks" 25 years later (as foretold in the last episode). More importantly, he was the star of Lynch's "Dune", the end result of one of Arthur Jacobs' last projects, to bring the sci-fi classic to the screen
So that's my dream cast. We've got a couple months for such speculation before we hear the reality.

The only ideal I have for the next movie is that it be an excellent
one, four stars, two thumbs up and all that. I guess the screenplay is
done and production design is in the works and plans for sets and such.
I can see a scenario were an ape, perhaps Caesar or his family come to
care for a parentless little girl who knows no human culture, but I
just hope she doesn't also display an ability to kill with a boomerang.

This article sez "War of the POTA" is set years after "Dawn", so maybe it will be closer to meat & potatoes POTA. Looks like the whole shoot is Vancouver. They're not shooting in New Orleans this time so the old human environs of "Dawn" seem to be out. Has Caesar put his foot down and crushed that pest called Man once and for all? Will the apes finally take a bite out of the Big Apple (those maniacs!)? And is there any significance to the title "Hidden Fortress"?

I don't know about the German ones, but I have some French ones and they're a thinner paper than the American ones.

Hey, everyone.... I have the book "Simians and Serialism: A History and
Analysis of Jerry Goldsmith's Score to Planet of the Apes" and have
started reading it, jumping around to different sections. APES fans,
this book is an absolute MUST HAVE. There's info in here that is
fascinating and never before told. Though it lacks the great photos in
the recent book on the APES franchise, this book is much better
researched and written -- and it's about much more than just the score.
It goes into the entire pre-production of the first film, and also
includes all that came afterward. It's probably the best thing I've
ever read about APES ever. Everyone needs to get this book. You won't
                                      regret it.

                                      Rory,

I agree with you 100%.  At the very top of the list of APES information, very well researched (through the Arthur P. Jacobs archives at Loyola Marymount University).  Nice to see that his exposure to POTA started just like mine, one of the chapter titles is "September 14, 1973", which is burned into my memory forever as the CBS Friday Night Movies premier of PLANET.  He even recorded it on a cassette just like I did.
