Subject: Palisades
.html
Just found this on that Palisades Forum thread....

"First series covers first film only, though the other
films are in discussion at the moment. Includes humans
and apes...and yes, every pack will come with a unique
character and a Gorilla Soldier with some variations.
Should be a very fun, very cool line to work on.
Really excited about it.

Excited about heading up to Toy Fair too...lot of the
folks are there already but there are four of us who
are leaving in the morning to head up to the Big
Apple. Should be great to see some of the displays in
person in their new locations. I'm trying to avoid
looking at pics from the show coverages as much as I
can so I can see the stuff in person. Besides there
are some things that were sent directly to the show
that were so last minute I haven't even seen them yet!

What's funny to me the most is the panic that besets
these boards over the pics of the prototypes. "OMG
will it really look like that?" In some cases yes and
in some cases no...everything is always a work in
progress until it hits the shelf, that's the way we
have always handled it. If there is room and time for
improvement, no matter what the stage, improvements
get made."

Hi Helen, Neil and Michael,

Helen,

Thanks for starting the Marauders idea and allowing us to all have equal share in it's creation and actions, I have fully enjoyed being a part of this the past week.

Neil and Michael,

I would also like to thank you both for being such good sports and letting us girls run your group this past week, you are really cool!!

Well Helen, I am heading for Central City, don't know about the rest of ya!!

Yours Truly 2005,

Kuiama.

We've had a lot of fun!  And you two have been real sports.

I think you will find everything to be in order.  Sit back and
relax!  You can take the wheel now, put on your own music, invite
your own friends, and put the top back up.

To the Marauders I would like to say:  YOU GIRLS ROCK!!  I've had a
ball and I've enjoyed working with every one of you!!  We have 16
(15?) Marauders, and I think we outnumber you boys any day.  We may
not be especially visible, but we are strong and we exist, and we
think, and we like to talk!!!

So, take the wheel, Neil and Michael.  But, let us drive sometimes.
We might take off in a different direction, but in the end we're all
headed to Ape City (or Central City)?  Oh dear.  Maybe we aren't all
going in the same direction.  Ladies... I'll let you decide!

Helen

Thank you all!  This has been a lot of fun!

They are
Ursus, Brent and Caesar.
I hope the prototype of Caesar changes; it looks like they use

Many thanks to all the ladies who are computer savy and worked with the homepage and other computer issues.

Big thanks to Michael and Neil, who allowed this takeover to happen and people, this takes work. Michael and Neil deserve credit for the work they do on the DG. There is one thing we
female chimps learned this week, it takes work to operate a discussion group on the web!

It makes me sick that people are so money hungry that law suits like
this turn up. Before I had a family and could afford to be more
generous I would give and corispond with the Gorilla Foundation on a
regular basis. They are great people who do amazing work. Not just
with Koko but for all the gorillas in their care at the sanctuary
they have worked so hard to build. I only hope that this will bring
some attention to their real work and help remind people that the
gorilla that speaks sign language they learned about in the 70's is
still around and could use their help. Many of the animals in their
care paint and are learning to comunicate and express themselves
through training and interaction with Koko herself. I hope this
doesn't damage or threaten all they've worked so hard to achive. I
also hope that when this is all cleared up that the media gives it
the same attention that they gave throwing the story out there.

There are rumors that Palisades Toys will be producing a line of 4 inch figures based
on POTA. Apparently, there are no sculpts or anything to look at, but they are hyping
the line at the annual Toy Fair, going on now in NYC. Check out the message board

I really agree with that, John! But, I wonder how many will
withdraw their support in light of this article. I wish people
would just get angry and throw their money into the project! If you
look on their site, you will see the sad but lovely story of Koko's
adopted brother Michael. Some of his paintings are featured on the
site, and I think he was actually a brilliant artist! I would love
to put the picture he painted of his pet dog on my wall! And these
are apes that are teaching other apes to sign. It's all very
amazing. I hate to see this newest scam take the spotlight. And,
even if it were completely true, it doesn't negate the amazing work
they have done.

.html Yes, William T. Quick to be precise.
.
After novelizing 2001 POTA, he wrote to prequels "The Fall" and "Colony". I wasn't interested in reading these myself, but then Menluth posted some short reviews and it appears that these novelizations are superior to the movie itself. I only recently acquired the third, but have yet to read them.

There are also 3 "Young Adult" novels written by John Whitman. Again one is a novelization of POTA 2001, and the other two are entitled "Planet of the Apes #1: Force" and "Planet of the Apes #2: Resistance ". I have no idea if these are any good.

All of the above are published by Harper/Harper Prism

.html Thanks Helen. I had to drop out of 'the Party' to get back to work, but I read the many emails later. A success and I concur that it would be nice to have these every now and then.

Since the Chat on the Yahoo page really doesn't work, we should consider opening up another chat medium. It's success would also depend on whether others (who are interested in having occasional PotA 'parties) would be willing to download client software, whether it be IRC clients or the Yahoo Instant  Messenger client, or something along those lines.  The problems with these are that some ISP (and workplaces) block them for vaious reasons.

Anyhow, before we get too far in this I'll see if I can spend some time investigating in the coming weeks.

Another alternative is to create yet another Yahoo group that can be used only for these "party" occasions. That way those who are not interested won't be deluged by emails.

I wasn't going to mention Thompson, but
I'll only mention Thompson's passing in
passing, since despite his liberal leanings
he did frequently brandish weapons, a
practice that our cousins at the bottom
of the World frown upon with disdain.

I have a print of a painting Michael did called "Stink Gorilla More."
Back when I didn't have a family and could be more involved they used
to send me all kinds of great artwork, posters, books etc. I had to
read my son "Koko's Story" by Ms. Patterson last night after digging
out all my old Gorilla Foundation stuff. I wish more people could see
how amazing their work is.

Finally! Some action (and more unanswered questions) from all that
build up and suspence. I hope we don't have to wait weeks in between
instalments now that its really starting to heat up. I don't think I
can take it.

Sorry John, but one simple pleasure we get out of this is torturing members with anticipation!

I have the next 5 strips in front of me now - I hang them around me at work (as I did with BTB) to read them continuously and scrutinise.  (tease, tease!)

As much as I wanted to also have a mammoth war to keep you happy John, the climax of this story lies far more in the revelation of:

(1) what that "BLAM" is referring to;

(2) the identity (and secrets) of Garvon's apprentice;

(3) the other significances of their location;

(4) other guests yet to appear (about 5 or 6 strips away);

(5) the outcomes of what happens here......

And there's more!  A free steak knife!  ;)

Anyway - there is some action, there is some blood, but most of the strip format stories are about exploring the less significant, less action packed back-stories that could explain some things about the movies.

Now - I want to thank Dan or a moment.  Dan had his own group for a while and he came up with an idea back then for the entire group to get involved in writing and drawin a comic strip.  When I met up with Neil on the Gold Coast last year we discussed how it would be fun to do a strip.  We decided I would write and Neil would draw, and Neil could use the experience to explore a more "cartoony" style - rather than the "portrait" style you see in the Beware the Beast comics.  He strayed form this original intention!

The idea was to get the group talking.  We would share a strip every week or so and people could comment and speculate on who the characters are and where they, and the story, might be going.

I also want to thank Jeff K, who is the first fan I know of to do a POTA strip (Veetus).

And of course all of you who do comment - while most of the story was imagined and written some time ago I am aways feeding from feedback and attempting to incorporate other ideas and things.

Dave Ballard - I seem to recall the one thing you really wanted to achieve from BTB was to get more POTA fans writing.  Looks like you had a win there!

And last but definitely not least, thanks to Neil for his labour of love.  It is MOST exciting to see how Neil portays my words, and it is rare that it looks ANYTHING like I imagined.....and it ALWAYS looks BETTER!

Please take a moment to read the new chapter and let us know your thougths - or feelings - or both!

And look out for a new venue to host this strip................tease tease!

Michael

Yes, we have (& read) Koko's Story, too. The kids think it's cool
that the woman wants to work with Koko, but the older kids now think
it's sad that, in spite of the good work that is being accomplished,
Koko is still a gorilla in captivity. (They just now told me this.)
I think the most awesome thing is that Koko can express FEELINGS!!

"Stink Gorilla More?" Interpretation please?

Well I'm glad to know that there are at least another 5+ strips yet
to come. I also think this helps prove Taylor was right. Dr. Zaius'
main job as "Defender of the Faith" is really to be the "guardian of
the terrible secret. All other laws or responsibilities to his ape
public fall to the wayside. Nothing,no matter how sacred, is as
important as making sure man is viewed as a worthless animal. I think
this also validates my vote for the good Dr. as the character hiding
the most secrets.

I'm really not sure what Michael ment by "stink gorilla more." With a
gift to the sanctuary they were building in Maui, they gave prints
from either Koko or Michael. My old boss got "bird" by Koko. They
didn't give any backstory on the artwork and you couldn't pick which
print you recieved. They both "signed" their artwork with thumbprints.
I guess Michael was feeling not-so-fresh the day he painted mine. It
also shows that they really painted and named their own work. Just
the fact that the paint on the canvas had "meaning" to him is amazing.
And the fact he could share that meaning with us is something no
other animals (that I know of) can do.

Yup, it did mean something. That's the amazing thing about
language. Even when we speak to each other in the same language
(humans) it isn't always safe to assume we know what the other
person really means. It's still a code.

And it's amazing that with time apes and humans can share a code.
Who knows what lies in the future.
