.html Hi Dave,
Helen forwarded your questions to me, and I'll try to answer them all.
Being in the ape make-up is so much fun. And the kids are very intrigued with the masks. I don't think we've scared too many, mostly they're just fascinated with our eyes. Which most
people are. Brian Penekis, our make-up artist extroadinare does an amazing job and you can't even see the seems between mask and the skin around the eyes. So most people stare at our eyes. In the
make-up you have to be very expressive with the eyes and over-exaggerate your facial muscles to show through the latex pieces.
And yes, it is very liberating to be behind the mask. I definately can open up and really take on the Dr. Zira personality. The guys I work with are all incredibly professional but we do have
fun when we're together. Cornelius and I do get a little smoochy sometimes. I mean I'm working with a bunch of guys, it does get a little ape-dirty from time to time. :)
England sounds wonderful, I've been all over Europe but haven't been to England yet. Hopefully on my next trip.
The audition I went on is still pending, and I don't know if you would have seen me in much. I've done bit parts in soaps and TV shows, but I mostly do theatre.
The last 6 years I take a couple of trips a year overseas to entertain our troops in the USO. We go to places like Bosnia, Kosovi, Macedonia, Germany, Austria and such. This year we'll be going to
Afganistan. I'm very excited about this. I know it's dangerous, but it's history and this is my small way to help the troops over there. We perform an interactive, fun play for them.
Thanks for your interest in what we do. I have such a blast doing it. Hopefully Fox will need us for more things to come. We've had some incredible experiences from meeting John Chambers a few
times, some in make-up and some without. It was such a thrill and he was just so happy that we were carrying on his legacy. We also got to meet Kim Hunter, Roddy McDowall and Charleton Heston. It's
been a great journey.
Hope this answers your questions and thanks again for loving what we do.

PANEL 1
Establishing shot: Ape City as we know it from the movies
PANEL 2
Zoom in on one building. Show a Gorilla guard outside standing next to the
wooden door
PANEL 3
Interior shot: A 'Zaius type' office. There is an Orangutan handing a scroll
/ or rolled up parchment to a Chimpanzee (give him a bag of some kind that he
can use to carry it in) In the background is a bound human held by another
Gorilla soldier.
PANEL 4
Close up of the Orangutan as if we were the Chimpanzee and he is talking to
us.
PANEL 5
Cut to outside: The Chimp is getting on to a horse, the Gorilla guarding the
door looks on disinterestedly in the background.
PANEL 6
Wide shot: The Chimp on the horse thunders down the busy street / road on his
way out of the city. Apes are going about their daily business etc. Some turn to
watch him speed by.
Thanks Michael! Comics
test page? I've been busy lately and so I've missed alot of
discussion and headlines...where abouts is this test page?

Uhhhh. . . . no.
Actually it wasn't out of the realm of coincidence --
Apes vs Buggy Aliens. In fact there's a music
video called Monkey vs Robot. So the idea of a
primitive man creature fighting against a super
intelligent insect or machine is a reoccurring
theme. I don't know how far back it goes,
but at least to 1967, predating POTA, to a
film called Quatermass And The Pit. It was
a British film, You may have seen it on TV.
Over here it was known as Five Million Years
To Earth. But even that is a remake from
an 1958 installment in the Quatermass
series that goes back all the way to 1953.
So as a concept, it's not copyrightable and
is fair game for anyone to retell that tale.
Even 2001 had cavemen and computers. So . . .

Thanks a lot Mike, I'll be making one as soon as I can.
I've already noted a small improvement that I will make. Since only
outer layer of the hands are provided, I will try to make the inner
layers that consist only of the hair and creases. These flip sides can
be created by basically removing the finger nails from the 'opposite'
hand. For example the inner portion of the right hand can be created by
reprinting the left hand without the finger nails. Then just stick the
two sides back to back.
That way the hands will look complete from any angle you look at the
model.
If you ever modify you source files, you may consider adding the flip
side of the hands.
Thanks again and pass on our thanks to the originator of the layout
too.

They (SIDESHOW)only offer one method of shipping up here and it's
around $20. Add the exchange rate and duty at customs and the only
one I've purchased to date (Gorilla Soldier) cost me around $80
Canadian. That's a lot of bananas.
I checked the site MTOTSKY suggested yesterday (thanks) and the Ursus
figure is a bit cheaper there, but then there's the shipping.
So as much as I'd like to buy the works, I'm being selective for $
reasons, but Ursus is a must have for me.
As for the other two new ones, Brent will probably sell well since
it's his first time in toy form (isn't it?) but I'm not so sure about
the Mutant.
Have you been buying any?

.htmlMy mom and I actually went in [sort of] together on five... I got
the gorilla soldier, Taylor, Zira, Cornelius, and Zaius. I really
want to buy Ursus and I have an unexpected desire to grab a mutant.
BUT... I'm on my own to do this and it's WAY too much money for me -
- even here. I've got three kids graduating high school this year
and that means MORE expense, not less...
I hope they continue adding to the line, though. It will be
interesting to see how it fills out. I'm surprised by the presence
of so many new Apes at Toy Fair.
I definitely want an Ursus, too. But... $$$. I didn't find Ursus
on the other Amoktime site. I'll look there again before I buy. I
wonder when these will begin to show up on eBay for less money.

|
.html There is a letter that was produced in one of the other POTA groups
that requests that Sideshow produce a line of figures featuring
characters from the TV Series. I have put that letter in the files
section. Those that are interested can print the letter as is and
send to Mat Falls at Sideshow, use the letter as a model and write
your own, or just refer to the letter for the mailing address of
Sideshow Toys. In any case, if you'd like to see the TV Series
represented in the Sideshow line of action figures (dolls) please
let them know by sending them a letter with your request.

Check out the letter. It would be really easy just print it out --
or to add to it or change it a bit, and print it off, and send it
out. I've written a few emails to Sideshow, but never get a
response. I'm thinking that it's easier to send email, but also
easier for them to ignore it. Unless someone is keeping tally, I
assume the emails just get deleted and so do our requests. Anyway,
a written letter, such as the one in the file, would make a
statement and, if there were enough of us, they might notice. It
would be great if you'd sign it, stamp it, and send it.
My reservation is... I don't think Sideshow does a very good job
with the human likenesses. I guess we'll see what they do.

.htmlYou know, I have thought about this before and I have come up with a
solution I like but may be off the wall to every one else.
Cornelius made the statement in Escape when they were being
interogated, "...I had access to history scrolls that were kept
secret from the masters and I suspect that the weapon which
destoryed earth was man's own invertion..."
I wonder if the scrolls told more than Cornelius led on. For
instance, we know in Battle that Cornelius and Zira traveling
through time and escaping the earths destruction was told in the
scrolls because the Lawgiver is reading it from the scroll. We also
know Caesar is mentioned in the scrolls.
I have always thought Cornelius and Zira knew of Caesar and Aldo and
the events of Battle from the scrolls. I always figured to protect
Caesar and "their" own history and future, Cornelius knew Aldo
wasn't the first Ape to say no but Caesar, his and Zira's own son,
was the one. Could Cornelius have lied and just used Aldo's name to
throw off any one ever finding out that Caesar wasn't killed buy
Hasseline and was raised buy Armondo and would eventually be the one
to bring about the establisment of the Planet of the Apes on earth?
What do you think Michael?

smaller, affordable figures like their "Muppets" maybe it'll be like the

do the characters we've wanted and we'll be able to afford them (and can
pick them out at Toys 'R Us). - - - Jeff

Hi
Luke.
I'll hold
back on what I think for a while and let others have a go.
You have
valid points and I think we will come up with many alternative
reaons.
This is going
to open up the "timelines" debate again, SORRY!
Frankly, I
believed for 37 years that the events after Battle would be the birth of
Cornelius and Zira and the coming (again) of Taylor and it would all just repeat
like a scratched record!
After
thinking more, I cannot ascribe to this theory.
But each to
their own - we are talking about a movie based on talking monkeys....ANYTHING
can happen!
I think the
narrative (and findings) in the cave explains that there was a specific series
of events leading to man and ape exchanging roles THAT DOES NOT RESEMBLE
CONQUEST!
So I think
that Zira and Corn created an EARLIER rebellion that that which was described BY
Cornelius.
Michael
You know, I have thought about
this before and I have come up with a solution I like but may be off the
wall to every one else. Cornelius made the statement in Escape when they
were being interogated, "...I had access to history scrolls that were kept
secret from the masters and I suspect that the weapon which destoryed
earth was man's own invertion..." I wonder if the scrolls told more than
Cornelius led on. For instance, we know in Battle that Cornelius and Zira
traveling through time and escaping the earths destruction was told in the
scrolls because the Lawgiver is reading it from the scroll. We also
know Caesar is mentioned in the scrolls. I have always thought
Cornelius and Zira knew of Caesar and Aldo and the events of Battle from
the scrolls. I always figured to protect Caesar and "their" own history
and future, Cornelius knew Aldo wasn't the first Ape to say no but Caesar,
his and Zira's own son, was the one. Could Cornelius have lied and just
used Aldo's name to throw off any one ever finding out that Caesar wasn't
killed buy Hasseline and was raised buy Armondo and would eventually be
the one to bring about the establisment of the Planet of the Apes on
earth? What do you think Michael? John

Jeff,
Phone the
buggers and ask them what the hell they are doing!
There is NOTHING
specific and it is driving me NUTS!!!!!
Nutter
Let's see what
Palisades does with POTA. If they can get into a groove of smaller,
affordable figures like their "Muppets" maybe it'll be like the Medicoms
again. They produced quite a few different Muppets. Maybe they'll do the
characters we've wanted and we'll be able to afford them (and can pick them
out at Toys 'R Us). - - - Jeff <.html

it was cool finally getting to open them! The auctions
are gone now but I'm sure he has more....do a search
on ebay for "planet of the Apes sideshow zira" or
cornelius and then have them listed lowest price
first....!

Probably a month or two after SideShow starts sending them out to the pre-order customers, just like now... Zira, Cornelius, Soldier, and original Zaius can all be found in the $20.00 range (not counting shipping)...

You mention the trips overseas with the USO. What a great thing to

The guys I work with are all incredibly professional but we do have

strange as it sounds, $50 for 5 figures I can pick up at Toys r us or
Suncoast, both me and my Wife can deal with. But, $50 for for one 12
in. figure that comes in the mail(that I'll never open), ain't gonna
happen. I bought 1 full set of the Medicom figures from Suncoast that
I have pegged up in my "playroom". I also bought another 10 or so
that me and my son play with. Being able to space out my purchases
and having more to show for it just makes sense. $50 can get some
cool classic 70's APES stuff on ebay ya know. <.html

There are TWO timelines. When Zira and Cornelius went back to 1973 they changed events that would lead to the planet of the apes. The lawgiver in BATTLE is the same Lawgiver of PLANET, but a different

You can see pictures of all of the Muppet figures on the Palisades Toys site:
My wife has quite a few of these. They're nicely done and well detailed. The playsets they do look really good, too.
Palisades usually has a booth at all of the major comic cons, so hopefully they'll be more news and maybe some prototypes later this year.

pictures and a good reveiw from our favorite toy man.

.html I agree. You guys are starting to sound like Star Trek nerds who
analyze way to close and suck all the fun out of Sci-fi. It is
supposed to be just entertainment. Let it go. None of the Apes
timelines for the movies or TV shows really work if you look at them
too close. I think too many people helped to bring these stories
together, so like any good myth, the details change depending on
where you are getting them from. Nobody is definitley right or wrong.
This is something I had to come to grips with once I started to give
Fanfic a chance. As long as the outcome leaves us entertained for a
small period of time, its all good. <.html

Now, without
meaning to sound TOO nerdy, this is another interesting part of POTA...."Ape

Never
mentioned in Boulle's novel or the first film. However there WAS a mention
of "Hung for high treason" in Planet.....
Did I miss
any other inconsistencies or references?

I won't, but
this is apparently a VERY expensive, low number event and he is available to
sign posters etc so I will at LEAST line up and ask him a few quick ones.
If he IS a pota FAN, I'll hand him a copy of the Beware the Beast comics and
give him my details.
You never
know Rory. I went to see the Roger Waters concert in Sydney where there
were 40 000 people who all wanted to meet him and I pulled it
off!
So I will be
doing what I can and really, I think he would do a MUCH better job than Burton
did - and just MAYBE he would even do a GOOD job!
If he is a
fan, he is in a position to make demands!

I know these
discussions do sound a bit nerdy, but the main reason I start the threads is to
get feedback so I know what I can and can't do with the
characters.
It would have
been nice if SOME thought had gone into these movies - hey, maybe it did and the
answer was always "but that's ok I don't CARE!".
Anyway - how
much could you enjoy "within" if I told you it was set after Beneath (ie after
the workld is destroyed)? ;)

I was excited
about Burton getting to direct and MORE excited about the cast - and MORE let
down as a consequence!!
I WILL ask
him what he thought went wrong with Burton's movie.
Again - IF Jackson is
a fan...AND he learns from the Burton "mistake" - he could really make demands
instead of allowing Fox to make demands on him.....THAT'S WHAT POTA NEEDS -
DEMANDING FANS!!! :)

.htmlNo worries. I'm not offended by anyone. I'm usually a catalyst for
the timeline fight, actually. I love battling it out. I've got my
opinion, and I know I'm right. In fact, this very argument was
going on when I joined the POTA group in 2000.
BUT, I do get really uncomfortable when "attacks" become personal in
nature. Although even those kinds of messages appear by some to be
playful, I tend to withdraw and try to become invisible. If it were
not for the recent opportunity to work with the Marauders, I
wouldn't say a thing.
But, I did. So I'm hoping that I'm not offensive in my tone and
that we can just move on without further discussion or fanfare...
both of which will make me even more nervous.
Thanks.
