Hey Neil,

Were you going to draw the covers or were you designing them to be photoshopped?

Rory did a great photoshop of Planet but I think he said "NO SEQUELS" (much like Heston said).

It's so time consuming, that's the problem, but maybe I'll try BENEATH.

I take it from the lack of feedback people do like the covers?

Anyone think there was something missing or have ideas how they could be improved?

Michael

-- I was originally planning on doing them on the computer but if
drawn is what is wanted I could do that too (but it will cost a lot
more!);-)

It would also be a pretty big project drawing all 5 or 7 or 8 or
however many covers.

My "photoshopping" it was just a lark -- because it was fun.  But it took soooo long!  My computer is old and slow, that's the real problem.

I phoned the local comic store and they have it!

Guess where I’m going right now?  J

Nice cover – but we have seen that!

Another 4 pages of Caesar’s Journal – which I like.  Minus the illustrations – which is a shame.

We also get to see the back story we have already read on the internet and while it shows the persuasion of the author is leaning to a circular timeline (which I disagree with), I really like the story so all is forgiven!

The letters page has an interesting tale from Ty – “Monkey-Man” must be universal because that’s what my twins call the guy (me!) who plonks on a POTA mask and jumps out from behind doors when they least expect it and the first 2 kids did the same!

Also, the “splitter” group will be preparing for an influx of new members (we had to remove some 50 that were dead wood to make room for our incoming!) thanks to Glen Scheetz getting a letter published….LOOK OUT GLEN THERE’S AT LEAST 50 NEWBIES ON THE WAY!  J

I really enjoyed Issue #2 – even more than #1.

Tom, could you please mark somewhere in your email if there are spoilers?

It's been on sale for a few days now in some parts of the world, and today in other parts of the world.  It seems to be random.

Not sure how the distribution goes from print to final destination,
but I'm in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, if that makes a difference.
I'm probably nearer to the actual printing site than anyone here, but
if it has to get all shipped to a Diamond (distributor) warehouse
first, then the route back to here may be longer than for other places.

So here’s Neil sketch and Rory’s cover together (for Valentine’s Day!).

I think originally Neil was going to sketch these then paint them (!?!?!?!).  Rory put together these photos, and man it looks cool!

                  Good question.

There’s guns on Monkey Planet, right?

And a critical element of POTA involves how humans destroy themselves and each other and use weapons to do so, so to me guns really play a big part.

No, but in the original novel guns were only during the hunt.  In the movie, it was more like a Western and so there was a kind of shootout at the end.  BENEATH, forget it -- we're into total cowboys and Indians mode, same with BATTLE.  In CONQUEST, well that's a revolution -- you can't have no stinkin' revolution without guns!
But even in ESCAPE... had to end badly -- with guns!  TV shows?  Forget it, all guns all the time.

So... maybe it should be called PLANET OF THE GUNS, just like the real one we live on, eh?  Isn't life wonderful?

You do know we are going to get a flood of posts from T now?  J  Just kidding T – you are quite entitled to your views.

Rory, I don’t see a PLANET OF THE APES without guns because nobody would pay for it.

It is depressing – life’s a bitch….the you die (or marry one!).  When it all gets on top of me I have my kids to look at and hope I can pave a better future for them.  This is something Taylor lacked and it is the reason I sometimes wonder if people should ponder the meaning of life unless they have created life because it then takes on a whole new meaning.

We don’t have quite so many guns in Australia Rory….you should visit.  We could chase down Kath and Kim!

                  Dear Neil,

I mean titles for the sequels. After Battle comes what?
Revolution on the POTA,  POTA The ape wars...... POTA. The rise of the Mutant army.....Doomsday on the POTA...etc.

All follow up moviesin the original costume and designs but with more subtle changes in area and grouping og the extended ape communities that there have been many ideas for.

I don't know, I don't think Ive seen it... As far as the latest issue, I have NO idea of what it contains, as I don't own it and I haven't been able to get issue # 1 either... I don't know, I don't think Ive seen it... As far as the latest issue, I have NO idea of what it contains, as I don't own it and I haven't been able to get issue # 1 either... Whitty was supposed to get a hold of me regarding getting one "at cost" from him but so far, nothing has been said... Maybe his assistant just forgot to get a hold of me... Too busy on coffee runs I suppose...

Here's something you might like to see.  Joe Russo sent me a scan of a 4x5 dupe transparency he has that's lost most of its color.  He asked me to color-correct it in photoshop for an eventual 22x28 print.  I haven't had much time to work on it so far, but this is what I have done.

deadly weapon will do.  Saw, or
                                Chainsaw, whatever.  You need
                                as element of danger.  Danger
                                equals action.  They don't say
                                Light! Camera! . . . Talk!
                                In fact I became weapons
                                master on our next shoot
by default.  Have Guns Will Travel.

I see post-Conquest as a Road Warrior setting
when they have neither the time nor the resources
to make ammo.  Even if you had a gun you'd
only have a couple few bullets at best.  So
you have to use your wits a lot and your
                                gun sparingly.
