OK, Fox's release of Battle for the Planet of the apes runs 86 minutes. That means it's 1 hour and sixteen minutes. Now, My uncut version is 1 hour 37 min, so in my mind they are leaving
dialog out of the movie and leaving in the Alpha Omega Bomb. The chase scene I have with the Teacher is at least 4 min longer than Fox's' version and a lot more dialog. So my version is 21 minutes longer. I have
heard the new release version will be one hour 23 minutes, if that's true it's still 14 minutes shorter then my version. Like I said leave it up too Fox to screw this up.<.html <.html

.html86 minutes is actually an hour and twenty-six minutes, not an hour and 16 minutes.
The running time on the DVD of the extended version that Hunter made, which has the Japanese laserdisc as it's source, is 1 hour, 36 minutes and 15 seconds (I rounded to full minutes when I answered the question
earlier and because 15 seconds is less than half a minute, I rounded down). That's from frame one of the film until the credits end and the screen goes black. As I recall, Hunter compared the Japanese LD to the
broadcast version of the extended Battle that Fox Movie Channel was showing. They were identical in length, but the LD version was superior in color and sound, so that's the one he went with when he authored the
DVD. I've got a video tape of the broadcast version somewhere, I'll pull that out later and see if it actually runs a minute longer than the Japanese LD, but I'd be surprised.
I just saw that DVD Planet is
listing the run length as 93 minutes (or one hour thirty-three minutes). Digital Bits noted that it was 92 minutes (one hour 32 minutes). At least one of these numbers is wrong, and they could both be wrong. We
won't really know until we have the new disc in hand, I suppose, but if I saw the same spec in a few more places I'd tend to believe it. There's nothing on the Fox Home Entertainment site for this yet,
so it's a little early to conclude Fox has screwed this up. Greg tshaf37@... wrote:

*** Personally, I wish that every DVD release would use original
poster art as the cover, rather than some photoshopped melange of
imagery. Even if that means the wretched "BATTLE" poster for a DVD
release. Hell, they make coffee table books devoted to movie poster
art from back-in-the-day... movie poster art is as much a part of
the "art" of the motion picture as the actual film, in certain
respects.

I don't understand what all the posts on this subject are about, but let me try to clear this up.
The theatrical version of BATTLE FOR THE PLANET OF THE APES runs 86 minutes and 21 seconds. This is the time on the DVD, and is quoted in the books "POTA as American Myth" and "POTA Revisited."
The extended version of BATTLE runs 96 minutes and 6 seconds. This is the time on my DVD made from the Japanese laserdisc.
So, there you go.

I just saw that DVD Planet is listing the run length as 93 minutes (or one hour thirty-three minutes).
Digital Bits noted that it was 92 minutes (one hour 32 minutes). At least one of these numbers is wrong, and they could both be wrong. We won't really know until we have the new disc in hand, I suppose, but if I saw
the same spec in a few more places I'd tend to believe it. There's nothing on the Fox Home Entertainment site for this yet, so it's a little early to conclude Fox has screwed this up.
Greg
I contacted The Digital Bits to inform them that the extended version was the one that was going to be released. At that time I told them it was 92 minutes because I merely looked it up in "Leonard
Maltin's Movie & Video Guide," which is usually a very accurate source, but in this case it turns out they're wrong.
I've just gotten out my DVDs of both versions and looked at them and I just sent a post of this subject.
We're a few seconds apart as to the running time of the extended version, but basically it's a little over 96 minutes. I don't know why Fox is listing it as 93 minutes, but I think in the end it'll
turn out to be 96 minutes and a few seconds.

Is it the flip side of standard Battle

As Rory said – unless they are using
Hunter’s version as the master (and what would be the point of that?),
they HAVE been PLANNING to do this for some time.
A hell of a lot of this does not make

I can't find anything
definitive about the running time on the new DVD. The story on Digital Bits
mentions a 92 minute running time, but doesn't say if that's a spec from Fox.
Amazon doesn't have the individual disc release listed yet, and the Fox home

________________________________________________________________
*** I don't know if this idea would gel well with
any other story
ideas here, but here's one that some a-youse apes
might think
interesting...
In the Caesar-dominated era following
"BATTLE", the guns are still
kept away from the citizens, though preserved in
case of any future
attack by Mutants.
In 2670, the descendants of Caesar's peacenik group
would probably
still have that Armory, but they seem to have had
little-to-no need
of it.
The gorillas (as I've mentioned a bunch of times
before) do NOT seem
to be included in this group.
Eventually, gorillas DO rejoin the
Chimp/Orang/Human group... but at
some point the Humans are repressed and forced
into servitude, so
that things degenerate to the point we see them in
3085.
My idea for a POTA comic involves HOW the gorillas
insinuate
themselves into the Chimp/Orang/Human group. They
do so by using
GUNS. But not the guns that have been kept in the
Armory (those guns
were hand-me-downs from Pre-Nuke War times). The
guns that the
Gorillas are seen to use in the TV show era (and,
later, in "PLANET"
and "BENEATH") are Ape-made weapons.
Specifically, Gorilla-made
weapons.
How might gorillas have learned how to make their
own guns?
Idea: at some point, the Mutant society -- perhaps
led by somebody
named Mendez XI, almost halfway between the Mendez
in "BATTLE" and
Mendez XXVI from "BENEATH" -- realizes
that the populations of Apes
and Humans on the surface world is growing too
high for their own
liking. Mendez XI wants to find a way to set them
at each others'
throats -- you know, like how the 'Negro' tells
Brent and Taylor, "We
don't kill our enemies; we get our enemies to kill
each other."
So... the Mutants find a way to teach
(telepathically, perhaps) one
of the brute, splitter Gorillas how to make a Gun
and ammunition for
it -- maybe "retro-engineering" a rifle
or pistol some gorilla found
somewhere, that sort of thing. The Mutants also
use their telepathic
abilities to get a sense of the rift between the
Gorillas and the
other Apes, all over the Human issue.
Thus, using Gorilla anti-Human prejudices for
their own ends, the
Mutants help the Gorillas to arm themselves with
self-made Guns that
fire Gorilla-made ammo... and give them the
telepathic prompting to
set 'em on a collision course with the virtually
unarmed
Chimp/Orang/Human group. This would be CENTURIES
after the last time
guns had ever been used by this group of
peaceniks, so that even
though they know they've got an Armory full of
guns, they've
neglected to TRAIN in the use and the upkeep of
these things.
The story could start out with the final line of
the nice Lawgiver
from "BATTLE", in answer to the
question: "Lawgiver, who knows about
the Future?"... "Perhaps only the
Dead."
Pan to the right... to the weeping statue of
Caesar...
Cut to a shot of a gorilla living a harsher
existence, clad in less
refined clothing than the traditional leather garb
we saw
in "BATTLE". He's armed with a
bow-&-arrow. He and his fellow
gorillas have had to resort to carnivorism to stay
alive. They wear
the skins of the animals they've hunted for food.
They're on the other side of the ruins of the
Forbidden City from the
treefort 'Ape City', south of it.
Out of nowhere, a huge Fire flares up...It begins
to Thunder...
there's Lightning... but it doesn't rain. There's
a strange, violent
earthquake...
And, when the Illusions are over, the leader of
this gorilla tribe
has vanished. He's brought to the old APE
MANAGEMENT area, where Kolp
had set up his "control room" to oversee
the city when he ran things
after the Nuke War.
Using their mind-control techniques, these Mutants
are able to
interrogate this gorilla... but, instead of
killing him (or, having
another captured gorilla and him kill each other),
they decide to
hatch their own plot to stir up discord in the
populations of Apes
and Humans on the surface.
After giving this gorilla the knowledge of
Gun-making (and Ammo-
making), they set him loose again... and he
willingly goes about
fulfilling his own desire to subjugate the
Chimp/Orang/Human group,
so that Gorillas are in control of all Apedom (and
Humans forced into
subservience)...
.... but he also plots to lead an army of armed
Gorillas back into the
Forbidden City, so that he can
"bite-the-hand-that-armed-him" so to
speak. When he does so, Mendez XI is forced to
lead his own people
(and their beloved Doomsday Bomb) on a sojourn out
of Breck's/Kolp's
city... through the underground military tunnel
system that had been
used before "BATTLE" to get the Bomb to
that city in the first
place... towards a new home, far far away from the
California region
where they had stirred things up perhaps TOO
far...
I would set this story around 2750 or so. Just
before the writing of
the SACRED SCROLLS (c. 2755, or 1,200 years before
3955). Part of the
transformation of Ape Society at this point would
be the re-writing
of Ape History so as to either whitewash the story
of Aldo, or to
erase Caesar & Aldo (etc) from History
entirely. A new "Creation"
myth would be concocted, and the new 'history'
would essentially
begin then-and-there. From thenceforth, Ape
History would acknowledge
no prior culture earlier than the time of THIS
new, anti-Human
Lawgiver. When Galen says that Apes have ALWAYS
ruled the world, it
will be based on a calendar that dates back to
2755 only. His society
will not have been taught anything about Caesar,
or about the prior
Human culture that once ruled the Earth.
One other thing: the way I kinda/sorta imagine
Mendez XI is that the
nice Mendez (from "BATTLE") put the
crazy notion into Alma's mind
that the Doomsday Bomb should be venerated...
.... and Alma, pregnant with Kolp's child, is bent
enough to actually
put her Faith, her Belief, in that Bomb God...
Mendez, in this story idea, is a fledgling
telepath. He uses his
telepathic abilities to 'massage' the susceptible
minds of his fellow
losers into Believing in this new Bomb God. Think
of it as a sort of
Conditioning, using Positive Reinforcement. He
stimulates their
mental 'satisfaction' centers when they
contemplate the Bomb as "God".
When Alma's preborn fetus develops sufficiently,
Mendez establishes a
telepathic link to that developing brain...
.... and he imprints his own Personality,
Memories, and Thoughts into
that fetal brain. He hijacks the mind of that fetus,
as a form of
self-reincarnation. His adult body, now Mindless,
goes into a coma
and eventually dies. Mendez lives on in his NEW
body, being born to
Alma already able to speak and think. His new
incarnation, then, is
as Mendez II. Thus begins the dynasty of the
Mendez line: all 26
of 'em are the SAME personality, but with each
successive
incarnation, it's like a photocopy of a photocopy
of a photocopy...
not all of his memories survive the transition
from Old to New, from
dying adult to preborn fetus.
He reincarnates sorta like how Buddhists consider
the Dalai Lama to
be the incarnation of the Buddha. He alone is
thought to be special,
to be called "Your Holiness" (as Caspay
calls Mendez XXVI). But his
mind is altered with each reincarnation. Whereas
Mendez the First did
not worship the Bomb -- only using his telepathic
abilities to coax
the other so-called Mutants into venerating it --
the fact that his
next incarnation begins within the womb of Alma,
the developing mind
of that newly-hijacked mind is in a kind of mental
contact with its
own mother. Alma's madness, her belief in the Bomb
as God, INFECTS
the mind of Mendez II, so that Mendez unexpectedly
becomes a believer
in a religion he knew was false. He didn't intend
to be a believer,
too, but this changes when Alma's madness infects
the mind of the
fetus. Much of Mendez's memories and personality
traits carry over
into the mind of Mendez II, but not all...
Thus, the dynasty of the Mendez line (as I imagine
it) goes something
like this (chronology-wise), with each incarnation
lasting, on
average, about 78 years [actually, 78.1974284
years, for only one
reason I happen to dig: the "bad luck"
number 13 squared is 169, and
169 squared is 28,561; if each Mendez incarnation
were to last 28,561
days (on average), then dividing that by 365.24219
gives 78.1974284
years-per-incarnation. This is my way of working
in 26 generations of
Mendezes from "BATTLE" to
"BENEATH", a period of 1,937 years, from
the end of the life of Mendez I to the end of the
life of Mendez XXVI:
Mendez (the First): c. 1955-ish to 2019 [he
"re-incarnates" at 64
years of age or so, depending on whether or not
he's born in 1955 or
some other year]
Mendez II: 2019 to 2097 [Year of the Bomb 13 to
91]
Mendez III: 2097 to 2175 [YB 91 to 169]
Mendez IV: 2175 to 2253 [YB 169 to 247]
Mendez V: 2253 to 2331 [YB 247 to 325]
Mendez VI: 2331 to 2409 [YB 325 to 403]
Mendez VII: 2409 to 2488 [YB 403 to 482]
Mendez VIII: 2488 to 2566 [YB 482 to 560]
Mendez IX: 2566 to 2644 [YB 560 to 638]
Mendez X: 2644 to 2722 [YB 638 to 716]
Mendez XI: 2722 to 2800 [YB 716 to 794; this one
is the guy who
teaches the marauding gorillas how to make Guns
and Ammunition, when
he himself is about 28 years of age, c. 2750, or
YB 744]
Mendez XII: 2800 to 2879 [YB 794 to 873]
Mendez XIII: 2879 to 2957 [YB 873 to 951]
Mendez XIV: 2957 to 3035 [YB 951 to 1029]
Mendez XV: 3035 to 3113 [YB 1029 to 1107]
Mendez XVI: 3113 to 3191 [YB 1107 to 1185]
Mendez XVII: 3191 to 3270 [YB 1185 to 1264]
Mendez XVIII: 3270 to 3348 [YB 1264 to 1342]
Mendez XIX: 3348 to 3426 [YB 1342 to 1420]
Mendez XX: 3426 to 3504 [YB 1420 to 1498]
Mendez XXI: 3504 to 3582 [YB 1498 to 1576]
Mendez XXII: 3582 to 3661 [YB 1576 to 1655]
Mendez XXIII: 3661 to 3739 [YB 1655 to 1733]
Mendez XXIV: 3739 to 3817 [YB 1733 to 1811]
Mendez XXV: 3817 to 3895 [YB 1811 to 1889]
Mendez XXVI: 3895 to 3955 [YB 1889 to 1949: he
dies at age 60,
prematurely, having intended to incarnate as
Mendez XXVII around A.D.
3973/YB 1967].
I'll end this already longish post right here, and
let you all mull
it over, criticize the idea, applaud it, whatever
the case may be.
This story would have lots of Apes in it... it'd
have Mutants and
Humans, too. The gorillas, at first, would be
carnivorous ones, like
the ones who left their bones in that Cave over
near the Ape City
location from the 1st two movies.
Tentative title: "ARMS AND THE APE" This
is an "aping" of the famous
title "Arms and the Man", which goes
back to the opening line of the
epic poem "THE AENEID", "Arma
virumque cano, Troiae qui primus ab
oris..." [translation: "Arms and the man
I sing, who first from the
shores of Troy..."]. The plot of this story
would be about the arming
of the Gorillas, of course, and their use of them
to conquer the
peacenik Apes (to "free" them of their
unholy alliance with evil
Humans) and to subjugate Mankind. "ARMS AND
THE APE"... I kinda like
it.
I wonder if Neil would like to draw this kinda
story?

It certainly could.
But I don’t see James Naughton ever returning to do guest appearances (or Roddy

want this trilogy to enable a “Sci-Fi Channel” revamp if it sells

or something.
Really, I can only see Booth and Ron being
involved and it also gives closure to the actual passing of Roddy
and Mark if those two characters die before we step into what I say as a new

I don't understand what doesn't make sense to you, Michael. This extended version of BATTLE has been around since the late seventies. It's offically known as the "TV version" and it has
always been 96 minutes, it's just that that running time info has been forgotten or not paid attention to.
What's not to understand is why Fox never before put the TV version out on home video, only on that Japanese box set.

*** Seeing as how I love "PLANET" (1968), and virtually everything in
it was original, it isn't new for me to respect it. As it is, I was
referring (above, regarding the use of original movie poster art for
DVDs) in general terms, not exclusively POTA-related. For example,
the movie poster for "LOGAN'S RUN" is one of my favorites, and there
are 2 DVD versions out there, one with a photoshopped melange cover
and the other with the original poster; I have both of 'em, but only
because the movie poster cover version came out AFTER the other one.
I didn't need 2 DVDs of "LOGAN'S RUN", but I got the 2nd one just to
have the original movie poster art. Don't weep for me, though: it was
only about $6.99, in the discount bin!

*** Give it a rest, Rory. ;)
One question, though: would you consider the "Dawn of Man" sequence
of "2001: A SPACE ODYSSEY" to be juvenile? Essentially, what happens
in that sequence is not so different from the plot outline I
delineated yesterday.
In "2001" an extraterrestrial intelligence interferes with the
natural progression of evolution. They teach an Ape, or Ape-man, how
to solve two problems -- Starvation and Territorialism -- by
telepathically prompting him to use a leg bone from an animal carcass
as a Weapon, first to kill a tapir (thus turning this starving
vegetarian Ape-man into a well-fed carnivore) and then to kill
another Ape-man, the leader of a rival tribe who had scared his own
tribe away from a watering hole.
In Clarke's novel, this telepathically 'adjusted' Ape-man is referred
to as Moonwatcher.
Philosophically, of course, people have argued over whether or not
the Aliens in "2001" intended for Moonwatcher to use his weapon
against other Apemen. Some argue that they only wanted to help
Moonwatcher (and his tribe) overcome their food shortage problem...
but that Moonwatcher took that weapon-wielding notion one step
further all on his own, so that he became a 'murderer' -- which the
Aliens may not have anticipated... Oops! Those who argue that have
one thing going for 'em: Kubrick used the Zarathustra music first to
show the arrival of the Aliens in the Earth/Moon system (the opening
shots) and then to show Moonwatcher having his "Eureka" moment with
the bones of that dead animal... but when Moonwatcher kills the other
Apeman, we don't hear the Zarathustra music. We do hear the
Zarathustra music when Dave Bowman is transformed into the Star-
Child, though.
In Clarke's novels, he makes it apparent that the Aliens in this
Odyssey series would go around from star to star, looking for planets
with Life... so that they could interfere here and there, coaxing
particular lifeforms along on the road to Intelligence. Their
interference on Earth could be looked on as a sort of Frankenstein
dilemma, since their 'creation' (Man) ended up rather violent, so
much so that the artificial intelligence Man invents (Hal 9000)
itself becomes a murderer! Maybe the transformation of Bowman into
the Star-Child was meant as the Aliens' way of making up for their
flawed intervention back at the Dawn of Man: when they interfered
with Moonwatcher, they may have inadvertently prompted relatively
peaceful vegetarians into becoming carnivorous murderers; but, in
spite of everything, Man did evolve into a technological species, and
the Alien interferers may have owed it to them to boost them to a
higher plane of existence, to make up for the tooth-and-claw history
that had ensued over 4 million years...
The prospective POTA comic plot I put forth yesterday, of course,
doesn't involve Alien interference in Human (and/or Ape) evolution,
but it does involve interference in the affairs of Humans and Apes by
a sidelined population of beings who have become 'alienated' (and
rather alien) from their ancestors. Some 700 years or more after they
made their home in the radioactive ruins of Breck's city, they've
evolved -- mutated -- into something other than Human. More than
Human. And also Less than Human. They've branched off so far that
they don't see any kinship between themselves and the Humans who live
on the surface world. They view both Apes and surface Humans as
their 'enemy'... and go out of their way to diminish that potential
threat by sowing the seeds of discord amongst them.
In the plot of Boorman's film "ZARDOZ", a telepathic artist named
Arthur Frayn -- for different reasons entirely -- goes out of his way
to "cull the herd" of so-called "Brutals" (human wretches who eke out
an existence in a dying world after the collapse of civilization) by
selectively breeding a tribe of "Exterminators"... and then ARMING
them with Guns. "The Gun is good... Go forth, and Kill!"
I'm not unaware of any thematic parallels that may exist between my
plot outline and the plot of "ZARDOZ". I could also point out a
thinly-veiled Vietnam parable "STAR TREK" episode (TOS), "A Private
Little War", where the Klingons had been supplying flintlock rifles
to one group on a planet, providing them with an unfair advantage
over their adversaries, so that Kirk has to wrestle with the Prime
Directive issue regarding whether or not he should give the
disadvantaged group similar weapons. The Klingons and the Federation
in that episode are almost like the opposing groups of Gods in the
Trojan War -- some sided with the Greek forces, and other gods were
on the side of the Trojans, but Fate had already decided that Troy
would fall...
In the POTA universe, we're faced with the Question: How did the Apes
learn how to make their own guns? In "BATTLE", all their weapons are
remnants of Man's 20th Century arms technology. But by the time the
TV show events take place, the Apes (predominantly the Gorillas) have
Ape-made guns. At some point between the events of "BATTLE"
and "ESCAPE FROM TOMORROW" the Apes acquired a knowledge of making
Guns and Ammunition. Caesar (and, presumably, his successors) went
out of his way to keep the Guns (and Ammo) away from the citizens,
watched over by Mandemus at first, and then by his successor
(probably).
Any number of plots could be concocted to explain the emergence of
Gun-making by the Apes. My plot idea is just one attempt. It fits in,
thematically, with already-established POTA elements -- such as when
the Negro forces Brent and Taylor to fight each other... and, at one
moment, he throws in that barbed club, so that Brent (who's getting
his ass kicked by Taylor) has more of a fighting chance. These
Mutants aren't above arming their enemies, as long as they can get
them to fight against each other... and NOT turn around and use those
weapons on the Mutants. This backfires for the Negro, of course,
in "BENEATH".
Seeing as how you (Rory) hate "BENEATH" so much, I didn't really
expect you to like the plot, since it involves the Mutants. But I
suspect that IF Neil wants to illustrate such a story it's a good bet
you'll like his artwork, at least! I think it'd be great if Neil does
illustrate this story, and do what Paul Gulacy used to do often when
he illustrated MARVEL's "Master of Kung Fu" comic: draw certain
characters with the likenesses of popular actors.
In MOKF, the main character, Shang Chi, was modeled after Bruce Lee;
another character, Clive Reston (hinted to be the son of James Bond),
was drawn with Sean Connery's facial features. It might be
interesting to see who Neil might "cast" in the role of Mendez XI,
etc. Neil's ability to draw the "BENEATH" mutants with photo-
realistic detail lends itself to going the one step further, and
drawing original characters with the facial features of known actors.
Who might be a good actor to use for the likeness of Mendez XI? Maybe
we could do a poll...

I was thinking about bidding on it to

I paid a fortune for collectibles (to share with the POTA fans) on ebay and
decided against it.
Hopefully this GREENMAN will share?

Mike, I think I’m over all that.
Let some other fool do it and pay for it
too!
As far as this Music CD goes there are 2
things:
(1) if Chris Lawless is involved, don’t hold
your breath (but the final result should be worth it);
(2) I’m happy to lay back, let everyone
else do the work, and get my freebie at the end!

Ditto for me. In fact, I respect Rory for sticking to his guns on that
one. Now though, both versions are available on DVD (since you can very
easily pick up a copy of that "limited" Evolution Box Set), so now fans
can have whichever version they want.
Oddly enough my signature never made it to the petition, though that's
simply because I thought I had already signed it. If the page is still
up, can someone send me the url?

Oh,
just that dipshit Chris!
He tried to make out the DG looks bad (or
we “have egg on our faces”) because we did not get behind that
on-line petition.
Then he realises he didn’t even sign
the thing himself!
What a retard! J
Actually, I think he was saying he doesn’t KNOW if he signed it so maybe
he just does too many drugs! J
Really, this is SO funny.
So Rory, remind us again how long Fox must
have been planning the EXTENDED BATTLE release?
Do you have any idea why a few people with
very low IQs have to persist in claiming it really had something to do with the
smallest petition I have ever seen (actually, does it QUALIFY as a petition with
so few signatures?).
This is SOOOOO funny! J
Neil, can we interview this guy in Similar

I read long ago that Fox was preparing anamorphic transfers for region 1 DVD release. I'm sure Fox has had them ready for sometime. These new DVDs are coming out now ONLY because Fox is trying to get some
of the KING KONG attention from DVD buyers, and I'm sure Fox wishes KONG had been a bigger hit. But anyway...

I’d
like to ask him how long they have had a version of extended Battle
and if Return is an inferior quality release.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m all
for petitions.
I can see some danger in anyone believing
it is this easy, and I can smell an agenda when a particular person is
championed for something they did not do.
It would be dangerous if people are
convinced it really is THAT easy, eh Rory?

I think it's possible if it's presented correctly, but it has to be a gradual thing. I don't see the abuse Galen suffers in Going Home to be the key that turns him bad and causes him to hate all humans
and start hunting them down. He's going to need a little more seduction to go over to the dark side. The seeds are there. Believing both Alan and Pete to be dead. His mother dying so she's not around to be a
calming influence. (I'm speculating here, but it looks like she's ill in the panels we saw, so I'm guessing she'll die shortly after Galen gets home, or maybe even just before.)
I can see Zaius coming to Galen a year or two after his return to Central City. There's a crisis. A group of humans have taken some apes as hostages. Important apes, so their safety trumps the normal response of
just charging in there and kiling every human. Galen knows more about how humans think than any other ape alive, having lived with them for 10 years. Galen agrees
to serve as negotiator as long as the humans are captured, not killed. He may hate the humans who disfigured him and killed his friends, but he doesn't hate all humans, and is still against killing. Galen is
successful, and slowly Zaius begins to call on him more and more for similar events. He's exposed more and more to human violence, and the negotiations don't always end successfully, with both apes and
humans getting killed at times. He's given a small band of gorilla soldiers that accompany him and step in when things don't go as planned. At some point he's put in a position where he has to take a human
life to protect either his own or the lives of the soldiers in his charge. Soon he's starting to go with the military option a little sooner than he would have previously when negotiations aren't going
well, until eventually there's very little negotiating and he's effectively become a field commander. That's how I see it, anyway. Mike and Neil may have something
different planned. Greg mlccougar@... wrote:

I agree it is going to take a lot more than the one beating to change
Galen and the ideas you have come up with would work very nicely.

Hi there,
Havent had time to turn around this last few months, so got lots of
catching up to do. Just got General Ursus and Ceaser from Side Show and I love
them. Have all the apes now. No humans though. Have noticed in the UK Sci Fi
shops the human characters are all going cheap so I will wait a bit longer and
pick them up at some point. If not Ho hum.
Hope you are all well on the POTA plain.

A very short issue this week. No letter column, just 11 more pages of the Conquest adaptation and the cover. So you all have extra time this week to get to your local comic shop
and pick up issue 2 of Revolution on the Planet of the Apes, the new Apes comic from Mr. Comics. Greg <.html

Despite the fact that this is on Diamond Comic Distributor' ship list for this week, neither of the two shops near me received copies this week. One shop does tend to get things late, but the other, more
reliable shop also says they didn't get the issue this week. Has anyone found copies at their local shop yet? Here's the link to this week's Diamond ship list: Greg

Not sure how the distribution goes from print to final destination,
but I'm in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, if that makes a difference.
I'm probably nearer to the actual printing site than anyone here, but
if it has to get all shipped to a Diamond (distributor) warehouse
first, then the route back to here may be longer than for other places.

I might have a bash. I have some pretty rare pictures and might also use my

3,4,5 etc, the skies the limit really.

I got curious too and did a Google search on "Planet Grapes". I did
not find anything related to the BubbleGum pack (I did check out all
the returned URLs), but it seems that "Planet Grapes" and "Planet of

products.
Also came across this book:

Hey – where are we up to on these?
I know Neil has done roughs – any comments?
Rory did a great photoshop of
Planet but I think he said “NO SEQUELS” (much like Heston said).
Neil – I thought you were going to draw these…….
I guess I’m just confused now!
