Of course we worship our queen. And we don't NEED a reason. We have a lovely queen, and she hasn't really started a war since the whole Falklands thing, and we weren't in on that here in
Canada so it was a bit of all right. At least we don't have an inbreed emperor running our failed experiment of a country (I'm not naming names but they might be south of us.)
And the Leafs never win?!?!? They won the cup back in '67! I'd say that puts your "never win" scenario into serious question. They win every forty years or so.
Ty PS. Without giving it away, there might be something by Neil in RPOTA #6. It's actually shaping up to be the best issue ever.

--------------------------------------------------
*** When I was in San Diego, I caught "THE
ARISTOCRATS" on the hotel TV on my last night prior to
flying back home. I swear, the funniest performance of
that nasty joke was the one done by the Mime. Gilbert
Gottfried's version (done during the post-911 roast of
Hugh Hefner) was next-best. It's all in the delivery,
and many of those comedians just didn't deliver that
joke well enough to make me laugh. But, ye gods, that
Mime had me screaming in laughter.
Royalty and incest have been linked ever since the
most ancient of times. Egyptian royalty was modeled on
the paradigm of the deities Osiris and Isis -- who
were brother-and-sister, who produced Horus. The
pharaohs were routinely brother-and-sister, and their
offspring became the next-in-line to the throne. Royal
incest was the way things were back then.
The Osiris/Isis/Set triangle (resolved by the
victorious son of Isis by Osiris, Horus, defeating the
evil uncle Set) is the ultimate basis of the story of
HAMLET, whose father (also named Hamlet) was murdered
by his own brother, Claudius, who later married the
widowed Queen Gertrude -- deemed incestuous in the
Elizabethan age.
Various interpreters of Shakespeare's play have sensed
an undercurrent of Royal Incest in HAMLET, even going
so far as to suggest that Hamlet and Gertrude have
some sort of incestuous vibe between them (and there
are actors who've played those roles with this notion
in mind, most notably Olivier).
When Ophelia -- driven mad by Hamlet's cruelty towards
her -- prattles on and on about certain flowers,
reminiscing about her own deceased father Polonius,
there are commentators who point to the fact that the
flower she mentions had symbolic incestuous
connotations, implying that Ophelia had been exposed
to incest by her own father. When Hamlet puns on the
word "conceive" whilst talking to Polonius, the hint
is that Hamlet sees her as 'tainted' by the incestuous
acts of her own father.
One other Shakespearean incest-theme comes up in the
"TEMPEST"-based sci-fi classic "FORBIDDEN PLANET", in
which Dr. Morbius and his daughter Alta are like
Prospera and his daughter. In the original screenplay
(and in the novelization of it by W.J. Stuart) there
is a hint that Commander J.J. Adams and Doc Ostrow
suspect Morbius of maybe having had an "improper"
relationship with his own daughter... but, of course,
this was not allowed in the final cut of the movie
that hit theaters.
I don't recommend the following for the
faint-of-heart, but there's a French writer/artist of
adult comics (truly "graphic" novels) named Bernard
Dufosse whose naughty comics are published under the
name Hanz Kovacq. The first is a 3-part story called
"HILDA" about a 13th Century Hungarian princess named
Hildegarde whose royal family was into incest BIG time
(reincarnated in the modern era as a young woman named
Hilda, whose past-life-regression therapy brings up
all sorts of sordid tales from way back when). The
second is a 2-part story called "DIANE DE GRAND LIEU"
which takes place during the French Revolution and
involves the daughter of an aristocrat who undergoes
rather extreme experiences, including incest with her
aristocrat family. Dufosse/Kovacq is witty (albeit in
an extremely perverted fashion), and his artwork is
quite accomplished (when compared with the art in
other erotic comics being published nowadays), but his
stories are... well, "extreme" doesn't even BEGIN to
cover it. Don't look 'em up if you're easily offended
by such subject matter.

so tight that they had to use toilet paper rolls as props?!

There's another new script on Hunter's site. This is the Revised Final
version of the TV episode Escape From Tomorrow. It's dated 7/3/74 but includes
revision pages dated 7/11/74, 7/15/74 and 7/22/74. Special bonus for Pete
Burke fans, nearly all the references to his original character name (Ed
Rowak) had been updated by this version of the script. Thanks to John Roche
for providing this script for the archive.
Also thanks to John we've added a scan of an article from Famous Monsters
#85, covering Escape From the Planet of the Apes.

.htmlVisiting the Ackermansion was a lifelong ambition of mine. I was lucky
enough to meet Forry back in '96 when he was GoH at a con in Montreal. I
attended every panel he gave, got his book signed, and loved every
minute with him.
Alas, the Ackermansion is no more. After years of trying to find a
suitable location for retaining the collection intact, his growing
years, along with a long bitter court battle with the last owner and
publisher of "Famous Monsters" eventually forced Forry to move to a
smaller place and some of the original contents of the ackermansion were
sold and others just moved on. Word has it that he still has the
occasional visitor to the new mini-mansion were he has kept some of his
most prized material.
All this is all the more infuriating since I will now be going down
there in a few weeks. What could have been a visit to the famous
ackermansion. I've always wondered if he had any POTA stuff. (None that
I know of.)
Oh well. At least I will get to meet Forry once again.

Modern art. No accounting for taste. And speaking of taste . .
.
I was arguing, as much as you can on the other group without
being banned, about not turning a new POTA into another
comicbook movie. What are everyone else's thoughts on this.
Nothing against comic book movies. I enjoy many of them.
I just don't feel that's the direction it soul go. In fact I
think
that's what ran it into the ground -- taking VERY adult themes
and turning it into kiddie matinee fare. He feels you don't
have
to shock the audience to entertain them. For me, POTA was
basically a Twilight Zone movie. That that IS what
made it
entertaining. Not what Beneath or POTA2K degenerated
into.
Now that was crap art. When there's little more motivation
in your art, other than making money, you get little of either.

been done. I don't know if you've got them yet in the USA but they are
brilliant. They have kept completely true to all that has happened in the
past but have updated everything, the scripts, the special effects,
locations etc. The Doctor's character has been expanded and made deeper
without changing him or anything from past shows.
The new stories
are fantastic (as they mostly always have been) but the show now benefits from
special effects and creatures that far surpass what the show used to
be known for and it is much more 'adult' than it used to be without losing
any of it's charm.

The first two or three episodes of third and last season of "Lost in Space" were shot in the summer of 1967 while PLANET was in production. No apes from PLANET were seen in LIS, but a gorilla nose and
forehead appliance was used in an alien makeup in one episode.

don't remember seeing any POTA apes on LiS. I was under the impression
that LiS preceeded the filming of POTA. But When I looked up the air
dates for the LiS episodes (IMBD site) I see that the last episode
aired 6 March 1968. So given that it was filmed before that, I guess
it's possible that POTA began filming at the time that LiS was still
being filmed.
So was there any POTA apes on LiS? Or were these just photos of a POTA
ape actor goofing off with LiS people between shooting? I doubt that
POTA apes were allowed to be used for LiS aired footage.

The first two or three episodes of third and last season of "Lost in
Space" were shot in the summer of 1967 while PLANET was in
production. No apes from PLANET were seen in LIS, but a gorilla nose and
forehead appliance was used in an alien makeup in one episode.

The next series (should the graphic novel sell well enough for us to continue) will be called either EVOLUTION on the Planet of the Apes

So is there a scheduled date already for the GN? (How are we to make
it a success if we don't know when to look out for it?). ;)
PS: I recently 'inherited' a large (2000?) comic collection from a
friend. While browsing all those comics I came across one
entitled "Mad-dog". It was a weird thing with two flip sides contain
to separate and different visions of "Mad-Dog" comics. One side was a

Which issue did you get? (There are some issues that are better than others. To this day, Dangerous Dan (She Hulk) Slott considers Mad Dog #3 the best thing I've ever done. He's wrong, but
he still tells me that.)

That men still rule the planet. From what I know about the number 666, it is actually the number of man as much as it is the mark of the beast.

Yes, the "between" Conquest and BATTLE era does have a lot of things to
play around with, but then again, it's got to be the weakest area for
storytelling... I mean let's say that you really do manage to squeeze out a
fairly decent story set in that era, then what? Where do you go with it?
It'd have to be a pretty sub-par story to tie in with the ultra sub-par APES
film of BATTLE... If it's a great story that you'd link to BATTLE, then BATTLE
would be even worse looking than it is...

I would much rather see a story that ties together the loose ends between PLANET and BENEATH - such as how Dr Milo salvaged the Icarus, how Cornelius learned of the "true"
history of his species, how Caesar was conceived (OK OK, maybe not that!)...
Then the story can run in parallel to BENEATH - showing how the apeonauts prepared for lift off, what did they think when they had to remove Steward's body (after all, blondes
are scarce in Ape City), what they really saw from the ship when the earth was destroyed, and possibly some kind of alien encounters they may have experienced before arriving on Earth in 1973.
A creative team could grow a mighty oak from these seeds!
