The other major hurdle is going to be who will organize and run the thing? You will be hard pressed to find many (or even any!) POTA fans willing to actually do the hard work involved.

have a shit load of fans when they first started, these groups grew
over the years, not just overnight. It going to take POTA some time to

It doesn't say what were their roles in either the television series or
the movie. It just say two of the original actors from the movie and tv
series.
That's it. I think that Bill only knows that.

Thanks Ty.

This is a real shame that we are reduced to these numbers.

Was it a surprise to you that you that the sales figures were this low or is it what you expected?

I guess you would join the ranks of those who say “there’s no money in POTA”?

The first issue of Apes did 5,700 copies, and we fell by a certain percentage each issue until we leveled off at around 3,500 total for the last couple of issues.  We sold a few hundred in the UK and a few hundred in places like Australia but that was about it.

Here's some sales figures on the last issue of Revolution.

http://www.icv2. com/articles/ home/9470..html

#6 comes in at number 223.

The series started slightly higher but was pretty consistent towards the latter issues.

Now with all comic "sales"figures these don't show the whole picture (sales to the UK for instance aren't record with these) but Icv2 have a good rep'

The interesting thing with the comic was at the time I did try and keep track of the sales and was quite surprised to see that a couple of months thinks like Tron outsold it (I think it was the first issue Apes was above 3000 copies but Tron was something like 8000,I 've had to much southern comfort to go back and check.)

Best, Graham.

Honest answer, I wasn't surprised by the time the enterprise was over. It wasn't so much a lack of interest in the Apes (though that was clearly a factor) as it was a lack of promotion and basic skills from our publisher.  He was new to the business, and didn't know his way around anywhere near as well as he needed to, to launch a new series and a new company at the same time.

The lackluster Apes sales are far more to do with how Mr. Comics ran than Apes, itself.  I think we could have done at least ten if we'd marketed better.  (I don't think people realized this thing was actually good, and a lot of stores didn't know the company brand, and assumed it wasn't good product).  Now, we could argue whether or not ten would have been good sales.  For what we were trying to do, hell yeah.  We would have made money on issue #1 with ten sales...actually decent money with anything over fifteen.

Sigh.

The first issue of Apes did 5,700 copies, and we fell by a certain percentage each issue until we leveled off at around 3,500 total for the last couple of issues.  We sold a few hundred in the UK and a few hundred in places like Australia but that was about it.

Here's some sales figures on the last issue of Revolution.

http://www.icv2.com/articles/home/9470.html

#6 comes in at number 223.

The series started slightly higher but was pretty consistent towards the latter issues.

Now with all comic "sales"figures these don't show the whole picture (sales to the UK for instance aren't record with these) but Icv2 have a good rep'

The interesting thing with the comic was at the time I did try and keep track of the sales and was quite surprised to see that a couple of months thinks like Tron outsold it (I think it was the first issue Apes was above 3000 copies but Tron was something like 8000,I 've had to much southern comfort to go back and check.)

Best, Graham.

I think the figures have to be put into context of general comic sales,as you say about MRComics Ty, a new company has such a uphill battle just to get noticed.

I thought for a small start up Mr Comics seemed to be getting a fair amount of  coverage but I did notice this seemed to be generated by either yourself or Max.

Having been in comic retail for over 18 years and seen the way that the deck is stacked against new publishers and any start ups ...

It's a wonder we see new publishers.

With out checking on the figures Virgin comics seem to be selling in the 4000 copies region with a fair amount of coverage ,high profile writers etc...

It's dificult for new publishers who ever they are...it is a shame.

All you have to do is look at "Battle". When Aldo threatens the humans in the corral there's a closeup of Paula Crist that pans down to the child she's hugging.
Bill Blake had a scene playing a chimp whose cart was stolen. It was cut from the final episode of "The Interrogation".   Jeff

I don't ever want to say the GN  will never happen.  Our publisher seems to want the GN, but doesn't seem to be actually working to create it.  Truth is, I don't know his plans any better than you guys, really.

I just finished up the Hoverboy project (and by the way, everybody go to www.hoverboy.com   and click on the Quicktime Video at the top of welcoming page) and will start to promote that project THIS week.  If the Hoverboy thing takes off at all, there's STILL a chance that Steve will do the APES GN and Mr. Comics will continue.  If Hoverboy doesn't fly, I'm afraid that's my last hurrah with Mr. Comics.

Of course, my other pro gigs (Howard the Duck, the Avengers, the Spirit, Harvey Pekar's American Splendor, and others) are keeping me so busy, I'm not sure what time I'd have for Mr. Comics anyway.

I'm still busting proud of Revolution and Big Max (our other Ape comic) and I consider Hoverboy one of the best things I've ever worked on....so fingers crossed one last time.  We're wounded, but not gone...yet.

Kevin, thank you for pointing this out to me. You are absolutely right, and
I went back and corrected that. I swear it took me so long to write this

No problemo. Look like you had yourself a really good time and maybe I
should go to the next Star trek convention out there.

*** What do you mean? A magazine devoted to MEGOs? I can't see it lasting long, though I'm sure it could last some time, especially if it covered customs, etc. too. But long term, as in years, I can't see it going on and on, as the MM itself is very interactive and you can deal with people and all right thru the MM boards...

There are a few books out there that deal exclusively with MEGO, it's history and it's figures... ***

This doesn't sound too good for the poor old mountain gorillas:

Rebels in the Democratic Republic of Congo have taken control of large parts of the Virunga National Park, home to rare mountain gorillas.

The move has raised fears for the fate of the gorillas. Only 700 remain - half of which are in Virunga.

"If anything happens to the mountain gorillas now, there is nothing we can do," said Norbert Mushenzi of the Congolese Institute for the Conservation of Nature (ICCN).

"As of today, the sector is no longer under my control and we have been rendered powerless by these actions."

Nine gorillas have been killed this year, allegedly by Gen Nkunda's men, sparking outrage among conservationists.

True.  You'd think with a willing actor they'd use him more,

I did go to one Apearence.
                  The opening of a grocery
store.  They had a guy in
                  the costume with the same
mask I bought out of the
                  comic book.  Just the
                  quality of Bill & Paula's
                  shows was so much better.

I dunno?  Bill has done so much POTA

*** If Bill Blake was a "dead ringer" for McDowall as so many say he was, why would they have used him on the show at all? Sure, he could have changed his vocals, but as far as appearing to look like Roddy in APES make-up, why would anyone use somebody that might even be mistaken for the STAR of the show?!

Sorry to hear that the GN status is not as good as I had hoped as I was
really looking forward to it and a second series. In the mean time
thanks for putting this series together in the first place. It's been
the best POTA we've had to indulge in in years.

While I still think the distinction to POTA fandom is dubious at best,
I promised some people here that I would take pictures of the San
Francisco BART station that is integral to the TV episode. As
discussed, this is the Montgomery BART station which is the only one
near Sutter street mentioned in the episode. I've uploaded the pictures
in the Photos section (under "SF BART"). Alas, I did not go in to take
pictures of the interior as originally planned. But I'm pretty sure
there would not be any Circus Posters to be found.

                        I’m not bashing him!

I think Mike does not believe what he says about his participation in the TV Shows.  I don’t have an opinion.

Here is the original.... .They sure went to a lot of
trouble to fake it....making a whole new lollipop with
Galen on it! Seems they could have done a better job
with the card! Maybe it is a ripoff from another
                        country from back then....

I think it’s just some pirate who is waiting for someone to put a high bid on before they inspect it properly…

                        magazine...that should be enough!

** No bashing, just really saying that he doesn't know all he claims to... As far as being part of the APES history, how so? As mentioned, the guys in the UK rodeo aren't getting their due: After all, they made live appearances too AND had a show going on while doing it...

And if being in the magazine means being part of their history, where do you draw the line? Does a one sentence blurb about APES in a TV guide count for you? Do the ADVENTURE comics in all their glory really need to be included too?

Didn't someone once say they were previously used on the Irwin Allen
                        "Time Tunnel" TV series.
