Oh, Wikipedia certainly has its uses, Tarry, I agree. But it's the
bane of journalism and should never be used for such a purpose,
because there's just no way to know, without conducting further
research, if anything you find there is true or accurate--and if
that's the case, then it's easier (and probably more sensible) for a
person to look up their info elsewhere.

This bit about Central City is a perfect example--someone doing
research for an article might think Breck was the governor of Central
City because that's what they found on Wikipedia, and thus repeat that
in their work. That false idea would then become propagated as others
referenced that article down the line.

Now, just to be clear: I was only joking when I said Wikipedia is the
root of all evil--because I do think it's an amazing site in terms of
what it offers--but the information on that site has to be taken with
a grain of salt, as it is no more reliable than any mispronounced
utterances from George W. Bush.

I hear that Tom Rubalcava from the group was commissioned to do the cover of the upcoming Scrolls magazine.

Dave or John (or Tom), any chance of sharing it with the DG? I'm sure our members who choose to have nothing to do with any of the other Apes groups would appreciate the chance to see what it looks like.

Tom's amazing art can be seen here...

http://www.drawingboard.org/viewtopic.php?t=65050

and here...

We were really pleased with how the new cover turned out. Tom was one
of the nicest people to ever contribute to Simian Scrolls. It's when
you get introduced to someone like this that all the aggravation and
frustration that sometimes bogs you down when trying to put a fanzine
together just melts away and it becomes a pleasure.

I don't have much information for you right now. Scrolls 15 is
currently going through the final proof reading/correction stage and
will hopefully go off to the printers in the next few weeks.

Personally I stay because I like to read about POTA.
And this group has more "meat" in it than the "others".
They may post more, but there's less substance there.

It’s a bit of a shame it’s gone down the shitter – I mean it’s a “chat” group, so what the fuck are people doing here?

I give up – as long as I can say my bit without being bullied by cowards and moderated, and I don’t have to put in too much effort, who cares?

On the subject of Wikipedia, I've been adding a bit to the POTA Wiki
site 'Simian Scrolls' over the last few weeks:

      http://planetoftheapes.wikia.com/wiki/Main_Page

I don't know why, it hadn't been updated in 2 years, but I've been
filling in some of the blanks (missing entries for tv episodes, pages
for guest actors and characters). I've just been sketching out the
framework for these new pages and adding some photos, if anyone has
the time or inclination to flesh them out with episode synopses,
character biographies, trivia, that kind of thing, please do, I'd be
very grateful. Or to correct any mistakes.

      Now, now guys!

I know in the past I’ve said things about the POTA group but I have to say it’s very UN-POTA to make such generalizations.

Being specific about individuals in the group, MAYBE (but please don’t!), but if you slag the entire group you are essentially being racist, sexist….you know, just “ist”.  And that’s the opposite to the main theme I get from POTA.

Yes, some people on the group may post with less substance, or you could even come up with a percentage, but please don’t insult the entire group or you are also insulting 90% of this group (an yourself, indirectly).

      Enough lectures, now…..play like apes!

      Nothing wrong with "The Group".
I just consider them POTA Lite.
      Fine for most discussions.  Just
not in depth ones that might stir up
controversy.  A droid with a restraining
bolt.  An engine with a speed governor.

One thing you can say about Bush . . .
He's willing to be hated to do what he believes.
What gets me is every 4 years there is a popularity
contest to become the most hated.  Strange isn't it?
Especially given how little power the office actually has.

Last week we reported Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment would release each of the Planet of the Apes films on Blu-ray individually as well as a part of the 40th Anniversary box set on November 4.

To followup that report, Fox has sent over high resolution cover art for all five Apes films on Blu-ray: Planet of the Apes, Beneath the Planet of the Apes, Escape From the Planet of the Apes, Conquest of the Planet of the Apes and Battle For the Planet of the Apes.

The 40th Anniversary Collection will include special packaging and collectible booklet.

We've included direct links to each Apes Blu-ray release below as well as each film's respective cover art.

I have no problem with them having used Ape Mania to pose for illustrations.

I am a bit squeaminsh that they used them for the labels, particularly when I am told Fox has enormous archives of never-seen POTA photos (the guy from Rittenhouse told me so and he went through them for his $100 set!).

So in a perfect world I would have preferred illustrations on the labels too...then nobody would have even realised they were actors and would have simply thought it was innovative illustrating.

Yes, absolutely.  There have been some rippers over the years.

If we can judge a book by the cover then this is bound to be excellent.

There's also pictures of Roddy filming on the set of Conquest. We have the brilliant footage
that Roddy took on the set of POTA so it is safe to presume there is a lot more footage from Roddys
estate as well as his photographic record of the movies. There are also pictures of Roddy as Galen taking pictures on the TV set!

I don't know what to think of the Blur Ray covers. I love what Apemania do and the Box set looks great but
the individual releases ........there are some fantastic pictures they could have used.

The French or Japanese film poster artwork are all superb (sorry, terrible sentence that!)

You know – it’s about frigging time!  J

England ’s going well too and the Aussies have just lost two of the best bowlers in the history of the game (Warne and McGrath) and Gilly who could change a draw/loss situation to a win and did so with alarming regularity and ease.

So yes, now’s a good time Hilly!

SO what’s happened this month – is it this month the Blu-Ray editions were announced or was that late last month?

It was this month that we seen the packaging for the "individual releases", but as far as actually knowing they were releasing the APES films on Blu-Ray, I'd say go back to June at least...

I know alot of people are upset that these covers don't feature
original photos, but I'm kind of impressed that they tried to put
together something completely new for this set. I'm sure it would
have been easier / cheaper for Fox to just cut & paste a new cover
together from their archives. Its more effort than they've ever shown
before & they look better than I was expecting.

Personally, I would be happy with just the art & photos
from the original release posters & lobby cards.  It's
not very original, but at least it'd be the originals.

Very true.  The new Toyota Celica GT will come with You Choice
of either a Subaru Boxer engine, or a high performance hybrid

I 've come round to liking the new designs in the last few days.

Now, as you know, I usually don't get my knickers in a twist if an image is "off-model" or "on-model" or stuff of that nature but there was something that bothered me about them...and the funny thing was I came to the conclusion it was just that they were digital photos/ illustrations... I was just being a grumpy old git,  I wouldn't have been bothered if they were traditional paintings or drawings... as you say they're well designed nothing wrong with them at all, so it was just my own Prejudice.

The thin line between photos and artwork is going to get even thinner in the next few years so I'm sure we're going to see more of this type of work in the future.

(Tim Bradstreet (SP?) is an illustrator who's been doing covers for Marvel's Punisher comic for awhile now and his work has a lot of digital manipulated photos)

        Best,Graham.

OK – when Ken Taylor worked at Fox I asked him this question too and he said that the old posters look dated, and that’s NOT how to sell DVDs.

So….I would argue to Fox that they consider REVERSIBLE covers (there are a LOT of these around).

Start writing now – some of it DOES seem to filtering in!

Subject: [moderatorcentral] Yahoo! Groups Photos (Media Storage) Enhancements

As promised in a recent post on the Groups blog entitled What's in
store for Yahoo! Groups, we're excited to share more details around
the enhancements that you'll start seeing within the Photos section
of your Yahoo! Groups over the next several weeks.

While the enhancements at first glance may appear to be modest, we
have in fact made several significant changes, including:

        - Increased storage limit for photos, from 100MB to 100GB
        - Unique image locations (in other words, a URL that will link
directly to a photo within your Group)
        - The original photo uploaded will now be stored in your group
(which means that anyone can click to see the original size of the
        image when it was uploaded)
        - The ability to upload new image formats, including GIFs, BMPs, and
        PNGs
        - The ability to upload up to five photos that add up to 100MB (from
        5MB)

We've begun slowly rolling these enhancements out to a handful of
Groups and will continue with this process over the next several
weeks so we can ensure a smooth rollout.

        Enjoy,
        Jami

As I mentioned last week, I've been adding stuff to the POTA wiki
site 'Sacred Scrolls', specifically entries and pictures for the
guest cast from the TV site:

        http://planetoftheapes.wikia.com/wiki/Category:Planet_of_the_Apes_epis
        odes

In the interests of completeness, I want to include as many as I can.
The episode scripts on Hunter's site have been a huge help - thanks
Hunter and script contributers - and as was discussed here some time
ago, Bill Blake remembers being in the guest cast of 'The
Interrogation' (along with Lee Delano if I recall). Anyway, I know
he's not listed on imdb or other sites but I did turn up one
        interesting result in a search:

        http://www.locatetv.com/tv/planet-of-the-apes/season-1/56479

This site has some extra names (background gorillas?) for a lot of
the episodes that I haven't seen before, not just Bill Blake,
although no mention of the roles they played. Anyone have any info or
suggestions on these? Any help is appreciated.

I’d say it is reliable – Eric has known many, many of the key POTA players over the years.

Well, I now believe Jeff & Bill's story about Bill being filmed
in 'The Interrogation'. Looking back at Jeff's posts, it does make
sense to me - at about 15.20 into the episode Galen parks up his
stolen cart outside a house and he and Virdon run off. From what Jeff
has said, this house belongs to a 'country ape' played by Bill, and
Lee Delano's 'officer gorilla' questions the ape about the abandoned
cart and Galen's abandoned disguise. The scene-but-one after that has
a gorilla aide giving Urko the dress worn by Galen.

The publicity photos autographed by Lee Delano (on Kass's site,
signed 'Lugo') show him on an outdoor set in daylight, but the only
broadcast scene with Lee is where he is searching the home of Yalu
and Ann (indoor, at night). Ok, it's not conclusive proof, but it's
too elaborate to not be true I think. I don't know why he's getting
paid for a cut scene though, unless it's in error.

Depends on your definition of the word "know" I suppose... I may be wrong, but I'd say as far as actually knowing them, I think he only knows Bill Blake... I mean just because someone's at a convention you're attending or you interviewed them doesn't mean you know them... You may meet them, be friendly with them while the event is occurring, etc., but after it's over usually the friendship is over and at best you have a "contact" that you could maybe call upon and say "We met at X, can you answer this for me?" or "We're planning another event, would you like to attend?" Again, I may be wrong about this, it is a guess, but people throw that word around very loosely these days... Yes, friendships may come out of such things, but usually when it's over, it's over... (And no Whitty, that's not saying anything about Mr. Greene, I'd say the same thing if you said you knew these people.)

He does not have a computer, else we might prompt him to join the group!
Whitty, Eric does indeed have a computer... He has a bid going on an item on eBay right now. I mean if he doesn't have a computer, how is he able to bid?
