The 'Planet of the Apes' Novel Anniversary Contest
Today is a big day in POTA history. It is the 42nd Anniversary of Pierre Boulle's original novel being published in France.
To celebrate this occasion the POTA group has joined forces with the Friends & Fugitives group and several POTA webmasters to bring you a special anniversary contest.
The grand prize is a copy of the 35th Anniversary POTA DVD, an ANSA astronaut patch and either the current or next issue of Simian Scrolls (winner's choice).
Now what do you have to do to win? It's very simple. Just explore these five POTA websites:
- THIS SITE
- Hunter's Planet of the Apes Archive
- POTA International Fan Club
- Kass's POTA TV Series
- POTA Group Mirror site
Somewhere on each of these sites you'll find this icon:
When you find it (the one above doesn't count!) click on it to go to a special page with a quote from the novel. The first person to post all five quotes with the website it was linked to wins the contest.
To avoid confusion post in this format:
Quote 1: "Get your stinking paws off me" Site: www.pota.com
Quote 2: "You damned dirty ape" Site: www.apecity.com
The above is for example only.
This contest is open to everyone, so the quotes & sites can be posted on this site's discussion group (PotA TV Forum) or in any other POTA group. The first person to do so is the winner.
Good luck everyone!

Overseas release of the Tv Series DVD Collection
The wait is over for fans outside N. America! In June, the Planet of the Apes Tv Series DVD collection will be released in Region 2 (Japan, Europe, South Africa, and Middle East) and Region 4 (Australia, New Zealand, Pacific Islands, Central America, Mexico, South America, and the Caribbean). One of the best pre-order prices seen for the set so far is £17.99 at Play.com in the UK, so if you're in Region 4 and have a region-free DVD player, it pays to shop around.
In case you're curious, the 4-disc collection has no special extras -- you get the entire 14-episode set in original broadcast quality, period. It's a shame FOX didn't avail themselves of the opportunity to show some unexpected generosity by throwing in publicity stills, tv promos, ad campaigns, interviews...goodies they certainly have access to. But fans will still find the set well worth owning.

New PotA Fan Club in the Works
Michael Whitty, a 37-year-old Aussie Apes fan of long standing, has undertaken the monumental task of starting a new International Planet of the Apes Fan Club. You may well ask why?. The reason is purely Ape-truistic.
The PotA 2001 film has created new fans and rekindled nostalgic interest in the original franchise for us older fans, but due to our diversity and the lack of an over-arching authority, no one knows how many fans there are...or how to reach them. And it's important to do so, if we want to have a voice in Fox's decision-making regarding the future of the Apes franschise.
As some may know, the current International Apes Fan Club has been foundering despite the best efforts of Terry Hoknes. With Terry's blessings, Michael will try his hand at organising the rag-tag legions out there into one group, finally and once and for all, so that Fox will have no doubt of our numbers -- or the strength of our buying power.
The new club is still in the planning stage, but goodies like a special Fan Club Kit and regular newsletter will become part of the package. Other surprises and must-have's are in store.
Michael has already contacted Fox's Retail arm to see what temptations they might be willing to provide. He says, '[Fox] have...assured me that a "Fan Club" could be able to buy a "Special License" to produce limited copies of the alternate Conquest or Battle [deleted scenes/extended version] as a "Fan Club Exclusive" (yet to determine COST). The Fan Club can also get a limited license for toys (e.g. do a "Fan Club Exclusive" Medicom, much as the Star Wars Fan Club does limited action figures).'
Of course, all of this requires members! As of this month, Michael is taking names and addresses of those who are interested in joining. You'll get a FREE introductory membership and the opportunity to help shape the new Apes Fan Club.
To sign up, e-mail your name and postal address to Michael at . Or visit the PotA Discussion Group for more information.

Celebrate the New Year in Ape style
Throughout January, the Fox Movie Channel (US) will be running a virtual non-stop marathon of all five Apes films PLUS the Tv-movie versions of the PotA series in honor of the Planet of the Apes 35th Anniversary. And if that's not enough to make your heart glad, they'll be showing the extended version of "Battle" - a rarity only available on Japanese LaserDisc - thanks to a request by the folks over at The Forbidden Zone.
Check here for FMC's viewing schedule (data courtesy TV Now).
My husband and I finally completed our move from the UK to the USA in November, which is why this site hasn't been updated in such a long time! Things are back on track now, apart from the minor concern of finding a house to call our own - which ought to be a snap compared to what we've already been through. Look for regular updates and additions now that I can once again focus on what's important in life.
Remember: "Reality is just a crutch for those with no imagination!"

It's Baaaack....
UK Apes Tv Series fans who have access to the Sci-Fi Channel can tune in on Sundays at 4.00pm for re-runs, which began today with the pilot. (My apologies for the late notice!) Sci-Fi usually cycles through the entire series a few times before pulling it again so you should have a chance to catch any you might miss. And to make sure you don't in future, check the DigiGuide above regularly.

Damn dirty apes! (08.21.01 - 11:55am)
Well, it must be "prime the pump" day...Fox obviously has Apes fever, and have just announced a 11/20 street date for Planet Of The Apes: The Complete TV Series. This four-disc box set is presented in 4:3 full frame and English mono, and includes all 14 episodes of the acclaimed series. Disc one features "Escape from Tomorrow," "The Gladiators," "The Trap" and "The Good Seeds"; disc two "The Legacy," "Tomorrow's Tide," "The Surgeon" and "The Dragoons"' disc three includes "The Horse Ride," "The Interrogation," "The Tyrant" and "The Cure"' and finally disc four contains "The Liberator" and "Up Above the World So High." Extras include a still gallery and TV Spots. Retail is $49.95 for the set, and click on the box art image for a blow up. [Go to DVDFile via the link above for this]
You may notice that FOX appears to have renamed the ideally titled 'The Deception' to 'The Dragoons', but it isn't worth arguing over, all things considered.
November 20th -- remember that date, folks!

The On Again/Off Again Planet of the Apes Tv Series DVDs
Just 21 days after the Senior Vice President of Marketing at FOX Home Entertaintment, Peter Staddon, reported that the series would be released on DVD 'in the not too distant future' (see the 16 August report below.), word today on The Planet of the Apes Yahoo! Discussion Group, from someone who liaised directly by phone with FOX, is that the TV series won't be going to DVD -- unless they hear from enough fans about why it should.
If you haven't grown utterly dispassionate by now about the 'Tv Series DVD Promise', then FOX invites you (once again) to make your voice heard. Here are the NEW address and phone number to write and/or call:
20th Century Fox
Attn: Planet of the Apes (TV Series)
P.O. Box 900
Beverly Hills, CA 90213
USA
Tel: 1-888-223-2369
And if you hear anything from FOX worth reporting, positive or negative, please !

Planet of the Apes Tv Series going to DVD - Confirmed
As reported today in The Planet of the Apes Yahoo! Discussion Group, Peter Staddon, the Senior Vice President of Marketing at FOX Home Entertaintment USA, has confirmed their plan to release the Tv Series on DVD. In an online chat with The Home Theater Forum on 31 July, Mr. Staddon said: "We are not planning on revisiting Planet of the Apes (original) any time soon. It would make a good 5 star title - it certainly meets all the criteria but probably not until 2003 at the very earliest. We are releasing the Planet of the Apes TV series in the not too distant future for all the Apes fans out there."
First Australia and now the USA -- FOX's Home Entertainment divisions worldwide deserve a big round of applause!

Planet of the Apes Tv Series going to DVD
Hoping to cash in on Tim Burton's re-imagining of the original film this summer, FOX Home Entertainment USA look set to answer our prayers by releasing the Tv Series on November 20th -- on 5 official DVDs including all 14 episodes, plus extras! That's the word on the street over at Central City (a.k.a. The Planet of the Apes Yahoo! Discussion Group), via a source at FOX, anyway. What the corporation will or won't do in the end is anyone's guess.
The Official Video Box Set
FOX Home Entertainment in Australia released all 14 episodes on video not long ago, and they're well worth having just for the yummy jacket photos. [See a few illustrative scans here.] The quality is flawless as well. In fact the only trouble you may have is with the standard -- they use PAL format Down Under, which won't play on US vcrs. But it's easy enough to have them converted, and if you act quickly and FOX tanks on the DVDs you may just have the last laugh. Get your paws on the collection by contacting Terry Hoknes at The Planet of the Apes International Fan Club, or e-mail .
