Hey everyone,

Check out <apemania.com> it's only a site-in-progress. The REAL site is due to debut in July.

I'm sure Philip could make some great conversions with extra parts like those! I'm not sure if all of the stores have them on discount, but check around and see.

They were selling the second series on www.entertainmentearth.com/ . Do a
quick search for Planet of the Apes. The figures off that site are extremely
    expensive though.

These scenes are only available on the Japanese laser disc box set released about
    two years ago.
Also included is the scene of Aldo climbing on to the roof of the school bus in
triumph w/ the other gorillas chanting his name. Fox did not include this version
of "Battle" as part of the 30th Anniversary video release.

Laser disc set is in English w/ japanese subtitles. The movies are presented
in widescreen so the subtitles do not obstruct the movie.

we are convinced that there was a scene that has somehow been lost from that
screening. the scene occurs just after zira and her nephew lucius rescue
taylor and nova from the prison sector for humans............

the wagon that they are travelling in is stopped by a gorilla patrol who ask
what they are carrying. zira replies that they are transporting humans
carrying communicable deseases and that the plague they are carrying is
highly infectious. from this news they allow them to pass stating that the
only good human is a dead human!

please enlighten as we would like to know why this scene has been ommitted
from any of the video releases

I don't know if it was ever in any cut of the film, but the scene was
shot (it's in the script, and there is a still from this scene floating
    around).

    Yes, Ape friends,

this information as correct. I have PLANET OF THE APES screenplay copy - is
    true!

And this scene was used in PLANET OF THE APES comics version (Marvel, 1974).

The first thing I can think of would be to ask 20th Century Fox not to put
your arse in jail for registering the name of a copyrighted FOX property.
Folks should be very careful about using POTA names and images, of any kind

    Hi, fellow ape fans,

My name is Anthony B. McElveen. I've been a Planet of the Apes fan since
the early 70's, but I've been collecting the merchandise seriously for
about ten years. Although I mostly collect toys, I also have a lot of
    other items.

My favorite apes are gorillas and my favorite character is Julius. For a
    gorilla, he's pretty laid back.

I look forward to joining in on some of the discussions here. I don't know

Titles can't be copyrighted, they can only be registered as trademarks.
You're safe as long as you don't use "Planet of the Apes" as the name of a
    product or product line.

Images, sounds, music, etc., from the movies and television series are a
different matter. They ARE copyrighted and Fox can choose to take action
    if they're used without permission.

P.S. A while back, someone mentioned a MIDI file of Planet of the Apes
music. I'd be very grateful if someone could send me the URL where it can
    be downloaded. Thanks.

I'd be careful believing ANYTHING typed here without going directly to the
source, FOX's legal department. They will be able to tell you exactly what
you can and can't do. So before believing all of the "hear-say" and

you know the real facts, then you know what you can and can't do.

    It's simple. Write or call:

    20th Century Fox Film Corp.
    PO Box 900
    Beverly Hills, Ca 90213
    (310) 369-4600

    Good luck.

      Hi Anthony,
Thanks for making contact. I too am a pretty serious APE collector ( who isn't
      these days?).
I live in Australia and work for 2oth Century Fox Home Entertainment ( and have
done so for 15 years now). If anyone told me when I was 12 that someday I'd be
working for the company responsible for Planet of the Apes..well, I wouldn't
      have believed them.
Anyway, I thought I'd take the liberty of attaching my current APES wants list
just in case you have or know of any of the items I'm after and furthermore (
long shot..I know) have any for sale or trade.
Anyway, please feel free to contact me should you want to discuss APES or APE
      collectibles.
      Thanks and best regards,
      KEN

You have to get an adaptor from an electronics store that will enable you to
play VHS video tapes from North America. If you get that then you could

Chris, there's a site called "register.com" where you can register a url.
It costs $75 for two years (just for the rights to the name). Then you also
have to pay for Web "hosting" . . . which you can do wherever you like.

        Hey Sam,

I'm not a copyright attorney, but after 18 years in show-biz I have picked up a
few things about the law and how huge corporations can squish people.

Off hand, I don't believe Fox would mind if you put up a fan site on the web.
It's only when you start making money from it that they will step in,
ESPECIALLY if you are selling unlicensed merchandise (such as copy-negged movie
stills, limited edition Pez candy dispensers, display busts, masks, etc.).

I still think it's worth a call to the legal department. To be sure.

Everything we do has Fox's blessing and endorsement thanx to me going to the
source and asking questions. It's not hard. It's just a fone call.

Thanks for the info Sam. I wish they would make a free url registry, they've
made almost every other service online free.

What exactly is the history of the displays as per your scan attachment?
        Are these authentic or copies?

High guys. I am doing a research paper for my political science class
on the Planet of the Apes. I think Pota has a lot to say about several
social issues like race, religion, and nuclear war to name just a few.
I was hoping that you could share some of you insights and opinions on
        the movie.

Also if you have any knowledge of sites or links where I could find
info that is quotable in a research paper that would be fantastic. I
        havent found much so far.

Thanks, and I hope to hear from you soon.

I just received an e-mail from Sue Lake of Consumer Relations at Inkworks (the company that produced the latest Planet of the Apes Archives I Card Set).

Sue states that the company plans on releasing another set (on the TV show) sometime during the next year.

Sorry folks. That Sal Mineo Space suit (albeit painted silver for some Reluctant
Astronaut film) sold today for 10G's. The NEW owner contacted us to restore it to
it's original splendor, so look for it on our "Artifacts and Collectibles" page of
the APEMANIA website in the next few months. This one should prove to be an
            interesting restoration.

I'll keep you posted to other rarities as I hear about them.

            Have a good weekend.

I thought I'd let you know that we will shortly be offering a whole line
of LICENSED goodies. Wow! Ain't that a kick. REAL Fox endorsed
merchandise! Who woulda thought??? That's right, licensed limited
edition Planet of the Apes articles unlike anything that has ever been
available. And you don't have to drop a load on eBay to not even come
close to a reserve price either!

Please visit our "Artifacts and Collectibles" page at
<http://www.apemania.com> for all the new items coming your way in
              August of 1999.

Here's a teaser photo for one of the items that will be available.

This Ursus display is on it's way to Australia, but there are more to
              follow.

              Brian-

The pics are very cool, but can you perhaps consider refraining from
sending them to the list, when a URL link would do just as well? I see
you're an earthlink user - if your setup is anything like mine, you know
how large files can slow things down on the email program.

              Thanks,

              Phil

Sorry to trouble you. We're on an ISDN here so downloads are not a
problem. I tend to forget that the rest of the world may still be doing

I, for one, enjoy Brian¹s posts. He has access to stuff that most of us
can only dream of. Instead of hoarding it, he¹s going to make licensed
copies so we can all share in his good fortune. What¹s the problem with
that? Does it bother you that he¹s selling repros instead of giving
them away? That¹s a little unrealistic, don¹t you think? The only
behavior that I¹ve seen here that would warrant the kind of action
you¹re suggesting is your little tirade. Yes, it was a breach of
etiquette to post binary files to the mailing list, but that was minor.
Besides, he apologized for it and hasn¹t done it again since he was
              asked to stop.

If there¹s a personal reason why Brian¹s posts bug you so much, filter
your mail and get on with your life. That¹s how I¹m going to handle
              your posts in the future.

              Anthony

we can do without the profanity and accusations posted by Armando

This list *used* to be a few people discussing interesting concepts and
ideas about the films we enjoy . . . PLANET OF THE APES. Now it's a bunch
of capitalists, hawking their crap. You guys go start your "i wanna sell
you an apes costume for $10,000" list . . . and leave the discussions about
              the movie here.

I'm afraid I have to agree also. I'm on the list for anything and everything
to do with POTA's. There's so little out there on it that even advertising
for POTA's stuff for sale is great! No, I'm not interested in buying what
was sent out... but might be for something else later, who knows? And
the pictures... well, it's true that in today's age of computers, if it takes
              you
too long to download it, then you're in serious need of an upgrade (no
offense intended). I'm very opposed to SPAM and I don't appreciate
Ebay too much either... but this is an apes group and the material that
was sent is totally related. Hope to receive much more. Thanks.

"One" does not a "bunch" make.  And interpretation is everything. Wasn't it Jesse Helms that said, "let artists judge art" after Robert Maplethorpe photographed the Crucifix in urine?  If so, then let craftsman judge "craft", and poop-heads judge crap.

I have no problem with who posts what, and if someone can figure out a
way to read email on Earthlink without having to wait for larger
messages to download (the ISP's only real flaw, IMO), please tell me.
It's not the download time - it's the fact that I can't do ANYTHING else
while that graphic dowloads. And "in today's age of computers", there's
no reason to not simply post a URL. "Bandwidth is EVERYBODY's
              responsibility" (har).

But, that wasn't the argument, really. I politely asked Brian, and he
politely agreed. So we're cool. Just wanted to be clear that I didn't
              mind the posts at all.

If a nuclear weapon destroyed New York (and also other American cities) I
would think that the Statue of Liberty probably would have been blown up or
knocked down by the blast. I doubt the statue could survive a nuclear blast
and years of erosion like it did in the movie. But I suppose the details

I think I'm going to stay out of the recent debates that have been
going on lately, and touch upon an old one. A long time ago, probably
before almost 1/2 of you were on this list, stuff was brought up about the
time period between the second and first movies. More specifically, about
how Dr. Milo was able to fly Taylor's ship and all that stuff. At that
time, I took the stance that it was too hard to believe that Dr. Milo would
never have been able to learn and understand the ship well enough to build a
launch pad, take off, orbit around the earth, etc.... after the most
advanced transportation he's seen is horse and carriage. Well, I'd like to
withdraw those statements I made a long time ago, and now I have a
              completely opposite opinion.
By the second movie, the gorrillas were already using cannons.
Therefore, Dr. Milo could've easily improved on the idea and basic concepts
of a cannon, making it bigger and stronger, and in effect, making a
primitave launch pad. Once that's out of the way, it's only a matter of
pressing a few buttons, finding a manual, reviewing some tapes, there's many
ways he could've learned to turn the main power of the space craft on.
Cornelius could've helped, afterall, he saw the idea of flight demonstrated
with Taylor's paper airplane.... :) Well, what I'm just saying is, is that
Paul Dehn's story is not inconcieveable by any means, and that Dr. Milo
could've easily done what the POTA plot says he did.
I'd be happy to hear any comments or thoughts from all you other POTA
              people!

              Ross (Dr. Milo)

No silly, the paper came from all the packaging (stuffing in the crates) that the ape hunt cameras are packed in when shipped from the factory.

Lawgiver forbid you should want to sell those scrolls through the group........

No, no.  The scrolls are exhibit in the Great Hall of the Zaius Museum in a special UV filtered glass cabinet filled with argon gas to preserve the ink where the words speak the truth that "all apes are created equal", it's just that some grow up to be HUGE CIGAR CHOMPING ACTION STARS!

Hey Phil, are you on a MAC? Sometimes Macs are really bad at multi-tasking,
especially when it comes to downloading (or worse:up-loading) internet images.

The latest Mac software is supposed to correct (or at least improve) that
              multi-tasking problem though.

Chris, My feeling is that the statue is not STILL standing in it's original
location. But rather, the nuclear bomb blew it apart, and the top half flew
to where it appears at the end of POA (coincidentally landing upright, for
good cinematic effect). According to the direction Taylor was headed and
the map Cornelius showed him, it would most likely be located somewhere in
Queens or Brooklyn, heading out towards Connecticut from Manhattan.

Good point. Here's a theory on that whole scenario. Mind you, it's
just an idea and can be argued, but it's fun to think about.
We know Col. Taylor's ship landed in the large body of water with the
aft portion submerged. What if the vehicle was originally fitted with
an engine module that allowed the vehicle to return to orbit? If you've
seen Brent's ship in Beneath, you can see and additional structure at
the back of his ship. Perhaps the engine on Taylor's vessel was still
intact, but underwater (perhaps the weight of it pulled the Icarus
under). When Milo found the ship much later, the engine was capable of
returning the vessel to orbit. As the 3 apes returned to Earth, the
module automatically jettisoned (and that's why we don't see it in the
beginning of Escape). Of course, that still doesn't explain how Milo
was able to fly the thing...
Maybe once in orbit, it reversed it's flight path and returned to
Earth. Any other ideas out there? I'd like to talk about this some
              more.

The idea of using a cannon to launch a spacecraft was pretty popular in
science fiction before the 60¹s. Then somebody figured out that it
wouldn¹t work without liquifying the passengers.

              Here¹s my theory:

We¹re told that they used Taylor¹s ship, but I think they also used
parts from Brent¹s ship, including the structure attached to the rear of
the ship, which was probably some type of launch platform. Brent was
sent to rescue Taylor, so I think his ship probably carried spare
components to replace ones more likely to be damaged in a crash.

The boys at ANSA/NASA would want to study the original Flight Data
Recorder, so the rescue ship would naturally have another one to use on
the flight home. I think this also explains the discrepancies in the
dates given. The scientists didn¹t study Taylor¹s FDR, they studied the
new one that had been put in by Milo, with the date possibly
              unintentionally set back to 3955.

It¹s not inconceivable that the rescue ship would also carry parts for
changing the actual physical configuration of the ship, leaving out the
              section containing the sleep chambers.

Okay, some fun moments on film with Planet of the Apes:

#1: Our 3 astronauts are skinny-dipping in the Malibu Creek watering hole
when Landon finds the footprint on shore and calls the others over,
"Taylor, look at this!" As Heston walks into the shot where Landon and
Dobbs are standing (observing the footprint OS) the angle of the shot shows
Taylor and Landon looking in the direction of Dobbs' privates, right
before they fall to their knees (to observe the footprint), or so we think!

#2: Beneath the Planet of the Apes: The Gorilla army has invaded the
mutant city. There's a shot where some of the mutants try to escape by
running up the main staircase, but are machine-gunned down by a gorilla.
Their lifeless bodies tumble down to the mouth of the stairs where gorillas
are herding up other mutants. One gorilla attempting to man-handle a
mutant loses his ballance and falls to his knee, not to the floor but into
the side of the shinbone of one of the dead mutants. This Joe Theisman
moment is painful to watch as we see the dead human slowly recoil in
obvious pain, but still trying to "act" dead. Ouch, That one's gotta hurt.

              Anyone got some others?

Wrong, wrong, wrong. Didn't you guys read the manual? Standard Issue Rescue

              platform.

The idea that there was an autopilot that sent the ship back into orbit is
fairly believable I suppose. Or maybe it could be that there were some
manuals in the shuttle in case the pilot was dead and one of the other crew
members had to fly the thing. This is kind of hard to believe because everyone
in this group knows about the space shuttle but I doubt any of us could
figure out to fly one from some manuals. I think the autopilot is a more
likely story, than Milo learning how to fly the thing. Either way Milo must
have been some Michealango-like genius to be able to figure out a space
shuttle and return it to orbit.
Also when the ship sunk and the water was pouring in, I would think that it
would destory or damage the computers and other delicate instruements inside
              the shuttle. Any thoughts?

              Wrong again. The Nukes landed in Washington DC and other strategic US sites;
ours in Moscow, Cuba, and Communist Asia , so much so that the Earth tilted
of it's axis with catastrophic results. Earthquakes, Volcanoes, Tidal waves,
you name it. The Statue was hit by a giant Tsunami which washed it into the
newly earthquake formed mountain side, busting its torch light in the process.

Correct. They would nuke all the major cities, if it was an out-n-out war.
What do you think the reason was, for this war? anything out of the
              ordinary reasons?

I believe the apes around the world revolted with a domino-like effect
              after Caesar's initial attack.
The resulting chaos and lack of security could have allowed the apes to
              enter sensitive areas
where the nukes were controlled. It would only take one missile launch
              to panic the other nations
into launching a counter-strike at pre-designated targets. Like in the
HBO movie: By Dawn's Early Light.

After all, look at what the gorillas were doing to the AO missile in
              Beneath.

I imagine the war could have happened for any number of reasons, but you
              have to look
at what kind of world it was in Conquest. Even America had become a
              Fascist , paranoid
country, so I figure that the rest of the world was that bad or worse.
              Any petty squabble
could have lead to world wide disaster. Sometimes I wish the T.V.
              series had lasted
longer...maybe we could have seen them travel around the U.S. some
              more. There's a lot
of possibilities out there for stories.

I think the reason for the war was that the Russians wanted to kick us while
we were down, and they saw the Ape Revolution as a golden oppurtunity to do

              the equation. They have
PLENTY of nukes to pick a fight. And let's not forget that England,

I suppose its possible it was China they had around 110 or so as of 1984,

              .html Awe Ken,

Don't burst our bubbles, you're missing the point.  It's because of the fact that it was only a movie, with no intention for any sequels at the start,  that the rag-tag team of fans here is desperately trying to find some sort of subcutaneous story element or un-written plot to fill in all the holes in the flimsy ape-saga timeline and give our lives meaning once again. (At least that's how one member put it to me this week).

And besides, we just can't let the Trekkies and the WWF have all the fun, now can we?

              Live long and perspire,
              Brian

P.S. I still think it was another siberian comet that put the Statue of Liberty on the Malibu Coastline.

A great movie. Enjoy it for what it is before you give yourselves an aneurysm

              Best to all.

Ken. This list is for those of us who enjoy the music and LIKE discussing
the possible explanations for what happened / could have happened. That's
the 'fun' of being on here . . .

Brian. Some of us *enjoy* discussing the movie and coming up with
imaginative ways to connect the dots. Not all of us are jaded old turds,
who only want to sell ape suits to the fans out there. Let us enjoy POA in
peace, and go spend your life elsewhere, ok?

I agree with Sam and Brian on this one. We're just discussing the
              possibilities and events
that led up to the first movie and carried over into the sequels. Just
              like Brent and Taylor, we
want to know what happened. Did we finally, really do it? And why?

I'm sure all of us have seen the movies dozens of times. Every time I
              watch a POTA movie
I discover something new. Most of it gets brought to my attention by
              the guys on this list.
Besides, if I get an aneurysm, I'm sure Dr. Zaius can arrange some brain
              surgery for me.
Hey, just look at what it did for Landon!

Does anyone have any theories on what the ecosystem might have been like
              outside of
ape city and the forbidden zone?
