.html.html
Dear Ape Friends:
My name is Adami and I am author of the book about Planet
of the Apes - The Only Good Human is a Dead Human!
In my country, Brazil, I am a journalist and I am working
on a big project called The Ape House: a place where you can to
find Planet of the Apes items - toys, masks, magazines, video
tapes, CDs, LPs, figures, documentaries, photographis autographed by Charlton
Heston, Kim Hunter, Booth Colman, Bradford Dillman, Natalie Trundy, Buck
Kartalian, Don Pedro Colley, Lee Delano, Bill Blake, James Naughton, Ron
Harper, Beverly Garland and many more Apes stars!
Please, look for our Planet of the Apes Brazilian
Fan Clubs web site:
www.mcanet.com.br/lostinspace/apes/apes.html/font>
With this e-mail, I want your help. Please, if possible,
send for me Planet of the Apes items to our Ape House Exhibition
Room.
Send the Planet of the Apes items to:
Luiz Saulo Adami
Caixa Postal 496
Brusque, SC 88350-970
Brazil
Thank you very much!
Sincerely,
Luiz Saulo Adami

.html New to this board, long time fan. Maybe I'm too much of a
traditionalist but based on the castings, real and rumored, this new
movie is looking more and more like a joke. Marky Mark can't hold
this movie up alone anjd it dosen't look like he's gonna get much
help- Pee Wee, Please. This movie needs some real credability besides
just the title (POTA- forget the Visitor stuff). I'd even rather
have George Clooney there vs. marky mark ( does he even shave yet ??)
Would anyone really believe he could even attempt to kick a ape
ass ???. And whats w/ the WWF stuff, is their an actors strike or
what.
Burton will be blasted if he blows this one. <.html

Clooney??
Wahlberg has much more talent then Clooney.
Clooney killed BATMAN. Deal with it.

I've seen better writing on shampoo bottles, but to me , Shumacher (mispelled
probobly) messed the whole movie up with his comic book style vision...If i
wanted to see a batman adventure with freeze in a comic book setting, I'll
read a comic and save myself $8....Burton had the right idea in the first
one..Keep up the good work Timmy.
P.S. Alicia was pretty hot as Batgirl, have to give the casting director
credit <.html

Hey I'm not saying Clooney's a Heston BUT MARKY MARK SUCKS as a lead
guy. Maybe a "Landon" type that get killed off fast but the LEAD no
way. I'm sure there's a dozen guy's that would do a better job than
Clooney, but Wahlberg's just a punk for this flick. Maybe Burtons
going to have him and a few of his "New Kids" buddies sing in a cage,
at least they'll get some work.
Seriously, POTA is a CLASSIC, why risk F ing it up w/ guy like
Wahlberg ????. It's going to be hard enough to compete w/ the
original ( impossible ??) I'm sure Burton is targeting the infamous
18-24 yr. old group (no offense) but it's the wrong move.

Well, first of all, no one knows what direction this movie is going, it
could be a complete remake, or it could go a completely differnet direction.
So whether or not Wahlberg is right for the role, it all comes down to the
script.
Word of advise, don't count your chickens before there hatched, because you
could endup eating your own words.

Screw Chuck and the horsehair that rode in on his head. Linda H. might've
been a "neophyte", but so what? She might not have been able to "act" in the
classical sense, but she was sympathetic and compelling in her role.....which
is more than can be said for most "actors". She did fine and was the correct
person for the job, watching the films vindicate her.
If they blocked around Linda H. during shooting because of her inexperience,
which wasn't terribly apparent during the times I've watched, it could've
helped the film conceptually -- she was the only thing Taylor cared about and
blocking around her might've made her seem more....delicate, or
important....on a subliminal level of perception. (Hey, I'm stretchin', but
the damnedest elements come into play when you begin deconstructing something
as complex as a well-directed film.)
The worst thing one could say about Linda H. would be: Bikini model plays
mute chick, no film at 11pm. She was attractive but fit well into the
reality of both stories. If Chuck suffered the indignity of performing with
some chick that little Skeletor bastard Zanuck was banging, oh well. Time
has vindicated Linda H. and her contributions to the first two films was very
significant.
Besides, if she was such a "neophyte", what was she doing playing proto-Zira
in the make-up test with Chuck and Edgar G.?
[FUN FACT: Anyone notice how the music used in the "POTA" make-up test was
from John William's score for the "Lost In Space" television show?]

Not true. With Burton at the helm it's going to hell. He might not be a
Joel Schumacher, but Burton's the next-best thing. With the pronounced
exception of "Ed Wood", all of his films mutated into non-plot bloated
conceits. That's a fine formula for Pee Wee Herman or "Beetlejuice" films,
but not for "POTA". At least the original films are safe from him.

She did a fine job in a role that was, well, I guess a polite way of
saying it would be "a product of its time". She was by no means
irreplacable, though. The movie was Chuck's. And as Abraham Lincoln
once said, "Don't diss mah homies!"

The movie was Chuck's, no doubt. But Roddy and Kim Hunter and Maurice Evans

I'll second that. Really disturbing are the shots where Roddy and Kim remove the
chin-pieces. Somehow the makeup is almost too real, and the effect is almost
gruesome...
My only hope for the new makeup is they try to make the mouth a little more

I just ordered your POTA book on paperback.
I was always wondering who was this rude S.O.B. on the e-group.
But on the other hand it only make sence, seeing that attitudes like this

.htmlNot! Schumacher's "Batman" flicks were basically big budget remakes of the
TV show, and the charm of the TV show was that it was so cheap in the first
place. When you throw $200 million dollars at it, it's not funny or
charming, it's just sick.
I too have my doubts about Burton's "Apes", though I'm a fan of his when
he sticks to his own original stories. I think "Apes" should have thoughtful
science fiction, ripe social commentary (hi Mr. Greene!) and solid
storytelling. Burton seems very limited in his view of the world, or at
least his screen world, and I haven't seen much in his films that could be
applied to the "Planet of the Apes" I want to see. Except visually, where
he'll probably shine. We are at the mercy of the script and his cast.
Hopefully Richard Zanuck will keep him from veering off course too much.
Meanwhile, there's a cheap "Sleepy Hollow" model kit from Playing Mantis
that includes a replica of Burton's severed head. One could put an ape head
from the new "Apes" model rereleases (they are about the same scale) on the
Headless Horseman as a kind of Ape's revenge kit.
Those cute Japanese walker apes are $100 something , a price that's not so
cute. - - - Jeff Krueger

|
.html Dear All on POTA
as some of you may know, I am presently at work on a Novel, currently
titled : The Trial of Cassius. I have had some favourable reports on the
standard of writing, including a published novelist. It is after all a
*real* novel, not a piece of fanfic, and I have intended it for an
audience wider than just the fans (who will be disappointed, I suspect).
One of my reviewers has pointed out the following, and I am at a loss to
know what I should do next:
1. If I finish within the year (as I had anticipated), I will be
demolished by the Media Machine around the Burton remake, such that
nobody will want to publish it
2. Fox will stomp on my novel because their lawyers will feel that I am
trying to make money out of POTA (however small), and that they will
want their cut (i.e. all) of any money to made from POTA or any material
emanating from it. Thus they will either
a. Prevent publication
or worse
b. if published without their sanction, promptly sue me for everything.
After all they do have the rights to POTA?
My reviewer considers that b. is a real possibility, so no publisher is
going to touch my work with a barge pole.
I know other novels have been published around the POTA theme. So I have
a question or two
1. Does permission from FOX have to be sought, or whoever holds the
rights to the whole POTA thing. I use only a few (three) names from the
original (I'm not telling which). Are the names syndicated and
Trademarked?
2. Who does has the rights so that I can ask them, and if necessary show
them that my work is not a cash in, which it is not, nor will it clash
with their remake, which I could prove to them quite easily.
finally, if anyone has any advice of a professional publishing nature I
would be grateful. Otherwise, the novel will remain in my bottom drawer,
so to speak. I have tried hard to keep to Boulle's standard of writing,
and my reviewer considers I have achieved it, but without any hint of
imitation.

that you must have 20th Century Fox's permission to use
even their concept, or risk legal suit for copyright infringement.
The first step you should take is to contact (in writing) the
legal department at 20th... unless they have a licensing dept,
which they probably do. Understand that if you are as yet
unpublished, it will be difficult to convince them on your idea.
Best of luck.

.html From Cinescape/Variety:
Tim Roth (Pulp Fiction, Reservoir Dogs) seems to be facing a dilemma of
sorts. Which movie will he jump into: Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone
or Planet of the Apes? According to Variety columnist Michael Fleming, Roth
has recently been offered a role in Tim Burton's Apes remake. The problem is
that scheduling for Apes shooting is said to be roughly at the same time as
Harry Potter, where Roth is said to be up for the role of Professor Snape.
The columnist reports that the role Roth is being offered in Apes is "the
prime primate who enslaves [Mark] Wahlberg's character."
Given that both properties are being developed with franchises in mind, Roth
could go either way and probably get work in further installments.

.html Dear All,
It appears that even from the most cursory glance at the Fox Terms of
use for their own website that it is extremely unlikely that I will ever
get the Novel published, their attitude is that they won't even look at
anything unsolicited - not even a precis of what I have done, and I am
not a member of the Writers Guild of America, nor do I have an agent. I
don't have any way of getting a Fox Licensing address from the UK, even
to write to ask them a very simple question. I am not interested in
'ideas' or 'film concepts' or anything of that sort. All I want to see
is my work in print, not languishing somewhere in a drawer. I doubt any
of the remaining cast or others involved with the original film / book
would probably consider even giving my work a glance. It's not that I
wanted any real money for it, just enough to cover my efforts.
Looks like that the Trial ends here. I will finish the final draft,
round about the end of August, but unless anyone can think of anything
useful, or constructive, the drawer awaits it. It's a shame to bung it
out, I really tried to do something good. As for the names - none of the
original characters appear at all, only their names. After all, how many
Marks or Arthurs or Natalies etc are there in this world?
Never mind......

most fiction in general is crap. Fan fiction can't ALL suck. Without

Planet of the Apes.
But a good story is a good story is a good story. If the story's a good

Hey, I'm glad their coming back too, just a little fearful that it
will be an embarasment that could have been avoided w/ a better cast
selection. But your right if the story suck's the movie will suck.
Another good reason Burton should based it around the original novel
( vs. the original movie ) and reduce his risk. But that would mean
more royalty $$$$ so that won't fly.

Ever since I first saw Heston on POTA he's always been one of my favorite

Ten Commandments: U.S. Televison easter/passover classic. (they never miss a

Zanuck coldly stated in a recent interview, "There will be no role for
Heston." It really sounded like Hollywood politics at it's worst - let's
keep Mr. Vocal Conservative out of the movie.
Chuck is great, and would provide a lot of credibility with ape fans if he

Those are automated emails. Egroups gets them from time to time, and

I agree, it's all politics in hollywood these days, and coservatives have no
place.
It's a shame because if Wahlberg plays an astronaut for example, Heston
would be great in playing one of the heads of Nasa sending him off to the
mission.
That would be a great cameo idea.
Or even a voice intro, as he did in Armageddon the movie.

Planet of the Apes on Super 8
Back in the days when VCRs where not around, those were really cool to have.
I have all five in B&W Silent, but I ended up slicing them together years
ago to make a huge POTA movie. But in doing so I lost the boxes and the
small reals. So now I'm just collecting them for keep sake.
But Color and Sound is something I was never able to enjoy, I was never able
to get those.
They a have Planet of the Apes 16mm full feature film on e-bay, but to sit
back and watch the whole POTA movie on a projector really doesn't make any
sence now. Not when we're living in the age of DVD.
I can sit through a five to ten minute film short, but to buy and sit
through a two hour old pink/red film copy? One would have to a real fanatic.
But I'll see if I can get my hands on those Color Sound shorts.
Sooner or later they show up on e-bay.

Yeah, no sence at all. BUT, there is a nice 16mm copy of Escape from the
POTA on Ebay. I have a little drive-in set up in the back yard, and it's a
great way to watch films. Under the stars, like god intended. Projector
pointed out the second floor window, giant speakers giving you that mono
sound. Love it.

Well, in that case yeah.
If you can build your own little miny drive in theatre, I would say that
there would be nothing like it. For that I would buy it for sure!
According to the seller the Escape 16mm copy, it is in real mint condition,
the only question is now the price, some of these mint films can cost a mint
themselves. But for a set up like yours, I would say that it would be worth
it.
That's cool.

1.) Don't attempt writing "clean" copy; type like a nut and write "for
speed". Don't worry about errors, just attempt to get the scenes in your
head on the page. (Remember -- it's not "real" until it's typed.)
2.) Try writing at least 1,000 new words per day (roughly two double-spaced
pages....keep in mind the length of most novels is between 40,000 and 60,000
words).
3.) Go back a day or two and polish the raw copy. Three things that will
make the copy read better instantly include deleting every usage of the word
"that", fixing split infinitives ("to go boldly" instead of "to boldly go")
and adjusting the sequences of verb tenses (i.e. if more than one verb
appears in a sentence both should be the same tense).
4.) Don't contact the Scott Meredith Agency in NYC. Or you'll be sorry.
5.) Actually, don't show your completed manuscript to anyone, ESPECIALLY us.

No doubt, but what's really going to make or break this film is no doubt the
script. Because of the death of Arthur P. Jacobs, 20th Century Fox didn't do
much beyond the 70s for POTA as did Lucus for Star Wars throughout the
years. So beyond the fans, this film is going to have to pretty much stand
on the script itself.
Star Wars was always kept alive by Lucus through Books, Toys, PC Games and a
re-release that later lead to Phantom Meneace.
Final result: Phantom Menace wasn't a great movie but yet earned over a
billion dollars world wide. Why? Because of Lucus.
I only hope that 20th Century Fox takes notice of this and starts pushing
for all sorts of POTA merchandise and maybe even a re-release of the
original prior to the new film release.

The end credits of the first film. Strangely enough, in Heston's second

August Dr. Zaius and Taylor will be released. They are all around 6" tall

For myself personaly I have yet to see a great POTA doll.
Although those dolls by GI JOE: Cornelius and Taylor do look pretty good.
Thanks Brian, as soon as I hit the Lotto Jackpot I'll buy few. :o)

excellent), Urko ( great sculpt but not as good as Ursus w/ regard to detail.
Urko's face was shiny black, this one has a tan face. Plus he doesn't have his
gun belt.) and yet another Soldier Ape ( with TV rank insignia). Taylor has
apparently been delayed until the next batch.
The first two reissue model kits by Polar Lights are also out at Toys R Us, if
you haven't already seen them. Anyone know why they feature the Aurora logo? Was
Addar and off-shoot of Aurora?
Mr Nitpick.

These are in the $200 each range!
Again, does anyone have any experience with these particular

I believe these are made by the GI JOE line, so if they are the same they
would have the same movable joints as GI JOE.
A real action figure, not like the Hasbro stiffs.
This is just guess work of course.

.html Hi Mark,
Yeah, I caught the prologue you "accidently" attached I even
"accidently" read it.
I'm not sure what your motives are for keeping us up to date with a
project that, by your own admission, is unlikely to ever see the
light of day. Either you remain optimistic or you're some kind of
sadist!
Anyhow, for what it's worth I thought the prologue was just fin. It
made me want to read more and I could picture the scenes easily in my
head. Kind of reminded me of "I am Legend" with the heroine (?)
showing the Richard Matheson
unhinged-character-who-talks-to-themselves-a-lot approach
I didn't see anything, based upon this short extract, that
distinguished it from any other well written "fanfiction" (Take that
as a compliment or an insult... It's up to you)
The only thing, I felt, that didn't ring true was the dialogue
between the two (presumably) chimps at the end. I said it aloud to
myself and it sounded a bit awkward to me.
"Quite so."
Okay I'm off to find some cover as you prepare to launch a counter-offensive. <.html

I wish there were figures that looked as good as the Mego figures did!
The 1st Hasbro 12" figures were pretty good, but the second set and
the 7" were terrible (7" Cornelius looks like a "cat-man").
The Megos weren't perfect, but for my money, nothing has beat them
yet, though the small scans I've seen of the Medicom figures look
pretty good (but not $30 good).
And I too have found the Cornelius and Ursus models at Toys 'R' Us.
Too cool. As a kid, I had Cornelius (still do---it's sitting on the
shelf in front of me) and Zaius, but never could afford Zira and
Ursus. Now I get a second chance. 8-)

The Aurora looking logo is a homage to Aurora. In case anyone is wondering
why Aurora model kits are few, here's the story. When Aurora (the greatest
model kit company of all time, at least when you're ten and love and still
love monsters) went under they sold the molds which are wax, to a Japanese
Company. The train they were going west on was in a wreck and most of the
molds destroyed! Bummer! <.html

Hey!! They may not have been perfect, but they certainly weren't hideous.
The 12" General Ursus that came out in 1998- the one where he looked like
he was wearing pajamas even though the box said "authentic costumes"-
THAT was hideous (and the other two were no picnic either)...

The Adventure comics were- on the whole- fairly awful, with the exception
of Urchak's Folly. Ape City was clearly the worst though. Baboonjas??
Punk Biker Apes??
Yikes.
Chris L.
PS- I just remembered that Charles Marshall didn't write Urchak's Folly,
so that explains why it was good. I really don't see how a man who
thought the idea of a 'Governor Breck's ghost as the bad guy' storyline
could support himself for long, it at all.
Again, yikes.

Anyone recall whether this guy was the "wonder boy" screenwriter who
supposedly was going to pen a sixth film? This was way back around '88 or
so, recall a few news items in regard to Fox in pre-preproduction on new
"Apes" films. Never happened, of course, but the alleged reason for the
studio's interest at the time was due to a spec pitch made by some hotshot
whom somebody thought was going to be the next Shane Black. Could've sworn a
few years later the same guy was writing total crap "Apes" comics for one of
those shit indie black-&-white comics companies.
This stuff ring any bells out there? <.html
