What are you doing up at this hour? It's like 10pm down here in Aus.
Or am I getting the time zones mixed up?

Thanx
Al, and sorry to hear that you can't hear (the Chamber's tape).
We had a great deal of fun with that party. It was great to be part
of it, especially with all of those guests! Martin Landau was GREAT!!!
Thanx for the compliment on the make-ups although looking back on it now,
they were a bit crude. We've come a long LONG way since then, but it's
still amazing to me what we were able to do on the budget that we had, in the
time we had to do it. The hardest part of planning and prepping the
whole thing was to keep it all a secret from my peers in the industry.
One person blabbing could have ruined the whole surprize!
Anmyway, I'm sure Scott would be more than happy to replace your tape with
a new one.
Take care.
Brian Penikas Keeper of the Glue and Faith for APEMANIA.COM
Yeah, I just spoke with Scott and he's now aware of the problem.
But I must say, with or without sound this tape is awesome! I've must have
seen it like 4 times already. I love the behind the scenes with you guys
working on the Ape makeup. Cool!
Great Tape Brian, And although it was silent, I did get the joke with
Cornelius and Dr. Zaius's Cane. Funny Stuff!
Keep up the great work.

No ape-o-nauts here, just a lot of Dolphins. The kind that play football.
I live in South Florida, South Florida is great, lots to do, Micky lives
about 3 hours north from here but I've been living here toooo long.
The nearest apes here are at the zoo.
But it's home for now. :o)

How long? I would like to believe too long.
As for hurricanes, a lot of near misses, but the worst was Hurricane Andrew
a few years back. But I'm not too worried about it, as most have always been
near misses. But you'll have no problem, Tampa Bay is on the west coast of
Florida, and the strongest point of the storm is always land impact and only
a few miles in land, from there is normaly becomes a tropical storm. But I
on the other hand live on the east coast facing the Atlantic. (near shore)
But again I'm not worried, I never really worry until at least a couple of
days before, when you know for sure it's going to hit. Other wise it's just
a waste of time. (pointless panic) At least for us anyway.

Thanx man. Everyone was very impressed. I still get
stopped and thanked on studio lots and public places by people who were
there who feel it was a very cool thing we did for John. Everyone
loved it!
John later told me that what we did for him that day he will "take with
him" to his final days. Since his party, he has rediscovered himself
and is experiencing a rebirth of his celebrity. It all has given
him a new lease on life, and whereas for a good 9 years prior to his party
he had never left the Motion Picture home, he now enjoys many romps out
into the world. He was honored at the 30th anniversary party for
APES (got a standing "O" from the crowd and cast too), attended the 60th
anniversary for the Local 706 Make-up Union, and even made it to Essman's
Wizard of Oz tribute the year following his party.
Thanx to Scott's published articles and videos, John gets a barrage
of fan mail from all over the world now. People have rediscovered
the master or are discovering him for the firsty time and it really
has improved his life today.
I'm glad that we all were a part of it. The man truly deserves
credit for his contributions to the entertainment industry.

Last week Fox network poked fun at "POTA" yet again during an episode of "The
Family Guy" animated series. Missed it myself, but friends advised it was
one of those flashbacks explaining why the father character (Peter) is such
an @$$hole:
-Strung up in a net and surrounded by an ape cast of hundreds aiming their
rifles on him, Peter asked, "How many damned, dirty apes does it take to
screw in a light bulb? Three: one damned, dirty ape to screw in the light
bulb and two damned, dirty apes to stand around throwing feces."
Think I preferred the musical send-up in "Simpsons".
(Hey Alex-- Dare ya to post the "POTA" refs from these series along with

You mean mpeg clips?
I have SNL on already, and if I come across those you've just said I will.
It's just a matter of being able to capture it.
The other day a was changing channels just looking for something to watch
and I saw a spoof on POTA on MAD TV (FOX CHANNEL). It was Elvis on the
Planet of the Apes.
He was singing a song relating to Damn Dirty Apes, with Soldier Apes in full
gear dancing around him.
I Just missed it, bummed me out.

.html Hi everyone,
Thanks to Brian Dumont we have the address of John Chambers. I was
going to write a shameless fan letter to John acknowledging my
appreciation of his part in the making of our favorite movie series.
I thought it would be a nice gesture if as many of us as possible did
the same thing. If one person writes it's just a fan letter, if we
all get together and send our combined best wishes then I think it
would be something really special for John Chambers to enjoy in his
retirement.
Here's my idea... If you send your message for John Chambers to me
(either hand-written or by e-mail) I can then gather all the messages
together, (perhaps in a small keepsake book or some such) and then
forward them with a covering letter to John.
Of course the content and length of your message is entirely up to
you but I don't think it's a good idea to bother Mr Chambers with
requests for signed photos or whatever.
If you can respond with any thoughts and constructive suggestions to
this idea I'd be happy to hear them.
If the idea is a go I'll post my home mail address, business email
address and a cut off date for written contributions.
I'd hate to look back in the future and think I had the chance to
express my appreciation to John and never took it. If any of you feel
the same way then let's get organized. <.html

Hi
again Alex,
I don't believe John is on-line, but you can reach him by writing to him at
the following address:
- John & Joan Chambers
- 23388 Mulhulland Drive
- Lodge Room 429
- Woodland Hills, Calif. 91364-2733
and tell him the gang at
APEMANIA sent you!
Scott Essman's video tape link is <http://makeupmag.com/BVstore.htm>
there you go.
B
Hey Brian.
Is the date September 13th on the tape John Chambers birthday?
Since it's just around the corner I would like to send him a fan mail along
with a gift.

Well, I got the approval on Scott's e-mail link, but the page link would be
just as great. For some reason the link didn't work from this end.
Did you do something different?
What link did you use?

Just the one that was on Brian's note...http://makeupmag.com/BVstore.htm. I've wanted to do makeup for as long as I can remember, especially after Planet in '68. So this magazine is definately on I'm going to look up and subscribe to. The site had mentions on Apes but it was a looooong read to get there. There is a video section, and that is where John Chamber's video is for purchase. A great list of books, too, for anyone who wants to do makeup! *Lynne*

Wow! I can't believe how many POTA DVDs are up
for auction on e-bay.
There are tons of box sets, and yet there is
one set going for over $200.00?!
And with so many other box sets still under
retail value.
What a nightmare!

Believe me I know that all to well, I've payed
some high prices on e-bay in the past. And I did see a cover story on CCN a
while back.
So from now on I place a bit, if the bid gets too
high for the item, they can have it.

It looks like Planet of the Cavemen to me.
But I would like to see more classes of apes in this remake. More than just
the Prime Orangs, Chimps and Gorillas we all know and love so well.
That would be interesting.

I believe that the www.egroups.com website keeps archives of digest versions

Hey B,
Question:
Is John Chambers Birthday September 13th? As in the
Video.
Sence it's just around the corner, it would be a
good chance for fans to show their thanks to a great makeup artist.
I'm thinking about sending him a fan mail along
with a birthday card and gift.
A POTA medicom figure. (cool)
Let me know about his birthday date.

.htmlHey Gang,
I just wanted to expand on Dave's suggestion here about asking for autographs from John. For those of you who do not know, John resides at the Motion Picture Trust Fund (hospital/nursing home for motion picture and television industry professionals). He has lived there for quite some
time. He has suffered a stroke and as a result a paralysis affects his right side, including his writing hand. He has trained himself to sign his name with his left hand, but even that seems to be difficult for him.
So I agree with Dave about not bombarding John with autograph requests. Just be happy with the thought that you, as a group of fans, will have touched John and his wife deeply by writing to him and expressing your joy with his contributions to film. You may get a phone call or letter
of thanx (written by Mrs. Chambers) in return, because they do read EVERY bit of fan mail that comes their way. The attention that Scott Essman and Apemania's activities have brought to John since his surprize 75th b-day party in '97, has transformed John's living quarters into a
wonderful museum of fan mail and gifts from all over the world. John and his wife are tickled pink over all of the attention.
I thank you all for even considering the idea of paying tribute and saying thanx to a great man.
Regards,
Brian Penikas
Keeper of the Glue and Faith for APEMANIA.com

The web site that hade the picture described it as a "Siamang".
A couple of more classes of monkeys would't hurt, and would make the film
more up to date and realistic (just taking a next level) but the tails have
got to go. Otherwise they'll look like something out of Wizard of Oz.

Thanx Al,
It was fun and certainly a day to remember.
The latest APEMANIA news:
Next week our Dr. Zira, actress Michelle Juhlin, is scheduled to do
voice-overs for the POTA CD-ROM game. Fox interactive's producers
wanted two of the APEMANIA performers (one guy on girl) to come in and
lay-down tracks, but all of us (guys) are on location on film projects
in different parts of the globe from Florida, to Vancouver, New Zealand,
and Ireland, so none of the guys could do it, much to our frustration.
This has been in the works for a year and a half and they pick the one
week when we're scattered all over the world! (grumble grumble)
So I set them up with I guy I figured could handle the male voices,
an actor named Booth Colman. Heard of him? Everyone is tickled
pink, including Mr. Colman, to have him invloved. The producers didn't
even think to ask him, or to even see if he was available. Heck,
I don't even think they knew who he was prior to me telling them.
Anyway, it's only fitting that Mr. Colman, a long time friend of Maurice
Evans and a Dr. Zauis himself, should be involved with the CD-ROM game.
It adds that extra "oomf" to the project!
Later,
Brian

And speaking of jokes . . . noch ein mal!
Five men are stranded on a tropical island. The only female
around is a gorilla on the other end of the island. After
one whole month the guys are all sitting around when Garry
stands up and says, "I'm so horny, I can't take it anymore!"
So he grabs a bag and storms off to the other side of the
island with his pals right behind him. They catch the
gorilla. Each guy grabs an arm or leg and Garry puts the
bag over the gorilla's head. He climbs on top of the gorilla
and begins to do the nasty.
The gorilla fights and struggles and finally gets an arm
free and she wraps it around Garry's back. Then she gets
both feet free and wraps them around Garry's waist. She gets
her other arm free and grabs on to his hips and starts
pulling him into her harder and harder.
Garry yells to his buddies, "Get it off! Get it off!
They shout, "You're on top, we can't get her off of you."
Garry says, "No, I mean the bag, I want to kiss the her!"

Wow I can't believe they didn't even think of him, or anyone else from the
original ape flicks for that matter. When you see so many games being made by
big names, it's surprising to hear that. I'm glad to hear Michelle Juhlin is
involved, she's a good actress and knows the part well.

I just wanted to see if anyone else is doing this. Once a month, at least, I contact Columbia House video and ask them to add the 1974 series to their request list. They get really patronizing toward the end of the call lately, so here's the number if anyone else wants to get on the list.
1(800)457-0866 and ask for the POTA series to be put on the request list.

I've just heard today that they were released in Australia! I wonder why it
