Blockbuster Years"? It's on AMC right now. Basically recounts the
last 40 years of Fox Pix. They do POTA about 11 minutes in. Goes for
about 4 minutes. Shows clips from The Hunt, The Trial, The Chase
Through Ape City & The Statue of Liberty. Also has clips
from "Behind", some Roddy, some Chuck. Also a lot of other Fox stuff.
Like a trip down memory lane. Check it out! John <.html

of all the films into one awesome story! Wonderful character development!
Good ending too! Very ape-esque! I look forward to reading more stories by
you! Makes me want to write short stories again... something I haven't done
in years! Overall great work!

All I can say is thank you. I am humbled by your praise. Will I write
anymore, only time will tell. A long time ago, when I was in Junior High, I
wrote an alternate end to Beneath where Zaius shoots Ursus, Taylor and Brent
deactivate the bomb and Earth gets invaded by aliens, forcing the Apes and
Astro's to work together. Nova lives and gives birth to Taylors son and it's
Brent who takes Taylors ship, with Dr. Milo back to warn Earth. that was how
it ended. I wish I still had that darn story. <.html

I hope it doesn't have the production problems that Richard Marciko's Navy
SEALs has been having. It's release was pushed back by at least a year!
After two or more years in development, it was decided that the graphics
weren't up to snuff. So, the designers switched to an entirely different
graphics engine. With luck it may be out by spring! <.html

I hope that reading it didn't make you late for work! I'm glad you liked it.
Originally, I had an idea where Odysseus and Charon would become a couple and
have a child, but then decided against it. I wanted Odysseus to see that
there just was no haven for him. If I had decided to create my own continuity
rather than follow Apes (the world is going to end in 3977 - I believe that
3955 was an error in Brent's ship) that would have happened. Odysseus would
have still died, but the child would have looked human and had ESPer
abilities. <.html

I believe Mad Max 2 became The Road Warrior because the first film, at that

I remember you mentioning this before, but although I have no conclusive
proof, I would guess it doesn't exist. For an item like this to have been
made and not one pota fan to have heard of it doesn't seem likely to me - no
mentions here, on the web, in magazines, on e-Bay - I'd have to say it
doesn't look likely at all.
Unless maybe it was a bootleg?

I'll throw my 2 cents into this list of favorites.
Planet
Conquest
Beneath
Escape
Battle
However, if we include the Vastly superior uncut BATTLE (Which I have) Then
battle and escape (first one I ever saw in the movies) are a tie.
Did anyone ever get to see all five in one sitting in the theaters? I did in
1974 as a graduation present from Junior High. They showed them in this order:
Escape Conquest Battle Planet Beneath. It was really cool. <.html

Mad Max was a quickie release here in the US, which did well enough that
Warner Brothers grabbed the distribution rights to MM2, which they retitled
because in a poll, too many people thought of MM1 as "that highway movie". I
still think that the Road Warrior is the single greatest action film ever
made. No CGI, nothing that wasn't filmed exactly as we saw it made it on
screen. I reccomend the LTRBX version which has a short docu on MM2 that is
so cool.
My favorite scene is just after the crippled guy and the warrior woman (the
delectable Virginia Hey of Farscape) are pulled off the tanker. My man Max
leans out, blows this evil drivers head off (nicely done) then OBLITERATES
their car with his truck. Awesome scene. <.html

That's just exactly how I'd rank them too, although I have to qualify my
rankings a bit by saying that the first movie is SO perfect, SO flawless, SO
much of EVERYTHING that a classic film should be, that nothing else, not
the sequels, not any other film, compares to its pure, perfect, majestic
splendor.
After that, Escape is my favorite of the sequels -- don't ask me why, I
can't explain it, it just is -- followed by the other three, all just about
tied for third place compared to the other two, but definitely some are
better than others when compared with each other.
Beneath has things about it that are really outstanding, but on the whole,
it's just plain too weird for me to really enjoy it from front to back.
Battle is a cute movie, also with notable features, but not enough of them
that it stands on its own -- by which I mean: would anybody enjoy it or
even watch it with interest, without knowing what went on in the first
four films? I don't think so....
Conquest does stand on its own, however, and is probably my second
favorite of the four sequels; it has a very incongruous ending though,
which makes it difficult for me to rate it any higher in the rankings that
this.

is held every year on Memorial Day weekend. You'd better get tickets early,
they sell out fast, but the con is a blast. I helped start a Star Wars
roleplay that ended up on Sunday nights and we take over the whole hotel
with it. It would be great if there could be a POTA con where we could do
roleplay. I went to the Ren Fest here in Tampa Bay and the park where they
held it reminded me so much of POTA and Ape City, I just got to thinking
this would be a great idea!! Any one else have a thought on this? Want to

I use to love the Disney Parks, but now I won't go unless I purchase a 1 day
pass to all 4 parks. That way I can do the best rides and move on to the
next park. Best way to enjoy the Disney Parks when you've been there a
billion times.
My personal favorites are the Universal Parks, Universal Studios and Ilands
of Adventure. Those two parks really rock!
They have Holloween Parties at Universal every year during the month of
October with Universal cast members dressed it Monsters Suits.
Every year visiters ends up getting plastered and instead scare the hell out
of cast members.
Only in Florida.

'Just thought I'd add my recommendation, to people thinking of ordering
videos, from Stephen Russo.
I'v known Steve since running into him at a convention in Massachussets,
in the mid-80s, and he's an extremely nice guy.
He also has just about everything there IS to have, on video!
:-)
(Steve was actually the guy, if memory serves, to come up with the once
"holy grail" (lol) of "lost" shows, ARK II....)
The onle thing some potential customers might be nervous about, is that
Steve refuses to give out his phone number.
Don't let that upset you .
In my experience--and that of many other folks'--Steve is highly reiable
to deal with.
And, if you do drop him a line, please tell him that Jim Burns says

Several editions of the soundtrack to the first film have been produced,
and each time, they got more and more complete. The LP that was
released at the time didn't include "The Hunt", and about a decade ago
or so, an updated CD release added it as a special addition -- but that
was all that it added, which still left a whole lot of music unreleased on CD.
Then, about two or three years ago, Varese Sarabande (a leader in the
production of film music CD's) released a totally complete soundtrack --
including every last musical cue in the film. As a bonus, they arranged
the music in chronological order, which was different from what the
previous soundtracks had done.
As an additional bonus, Varese also included a 15 or 20 minute (I forget
exactly, and I'm too lazy to look it up) suite of music from Escape.
Now, one thing I want to make clear is that this is the original music
from both films, not a re-recording.
This disc is, in my opinion, an absolute must for any film music lover
and for any Apes fan. Bear in mind that there are many different
editions of the CD soundtrack of music from the first film, but you
should definitely be on the lookout for this particular Varese Sarabande
edition, because it's hands-down the very best of them all.

Plot wise, I'd also be looking at the possibility that Stewart had actually
landed BEFORE the other 3, was the only one to be released, and had a little
adventure herself before "Escaping", but not closing the hatch properly -
hence Zaius' preparation for the coming of bright eyes. I worked on a rough
story along those lines a long time ago - lost it now. I also attempted to
explain away plot holes at the same time (obviously favouring the philosophy
that there WAS an extinction of cats and dogs as per Zira's claims and that
the Conquest scenario was an alternative time line triggered by the
appearance of the 3 Ape-O-Nauts).

Yeah, I've seen this movie. I saw it on MST3K, as a matter of fact. It is
pretty funny. It's probably one of my favorite MST3K episodes, but
considering how many of those there are, that distinction might be pretty
meaningless. <g>

"The Postman", with Costner. And "Battle" is my 2nd favorite of the ape

rebelling and fighting to take us over... that was cool)

I wish that in the end of "Beneath" that somehow Taylor and Brent
would have gotten away and started their own colony with the
humans though. I mean just to think of what they could have done.
The possibilities make my head swim...

I realize at this point that it's essentially anathema around here to
admit you're actually looking forward to the new Apes movie. And so,
I'll confess again ... I'm looking forward to it. It's basically a
given to say everyone's been burned by big-budget blockbusters, and
it's perfectly healthy to be scared when the Hollywood money
machine's making a sequel, et al. Seen it, taped it, etc. However,
all the news that's been leaking seems pretty intriguing. And with
Burton & Baker at the helm, at the worst it would be dull ... not a
trainwreck like "Island of Dr Moreau" (albeit an utterly fascinating
trainwreck). As has been said around here before, the originals will
always be there. OK, I'm rambling ... back to the forbidden zone, as
it were.

I agree, Beneath was the first POTA film I ever saw back in the early 70s,
and I thought for sure they would get out of that mess at the end.
But to my surprise, WHAT A SHOCKER!
It made me sad in the end, but what an excellent film.

.html I don't know about yous guys,
But I don't know about a bunch of gibbons and mandrills running around on the
planet of the Apes. Yeah, sure, technically gibbons are apes, but even
though the book was called Monkey Planet there weren't any monkeys on it!
Just Chimps, Gorillas and Orangutans. It's not called Planet of the Baboons
for cryin' out loud!
Howler monkeys? Someone's been hittin' the pipe! They've gone too far. Why
not have talking spider monkeys? Give 'em all giant arms and a prehensile
tail. I don't mind them being a bit more expressive, but I don't want them
making a monkey of my apes! Now I am offended! And as a punk rocker, that's
something only this and a few of today's commercials can do. You think Tim
Burton's unhappy? Let me moon them with my Big Red Baboon Butt! <.html

I received the plans for the spaceship. Fantastic and wonderfull!
This is a godsend and I owe you a debt of gratitude. I will
begin on the scratchbuilt version as soon as I finish another project
which is in its final stages. I will be posting images of it and the
stages of completion on this egroup so STAY TUNED ALL!!!
This will be the 4 foot model like the one that they used in the
"sinking" scene, except with a complete interior, fiber optic lights
(I am a networker and we throw away miles of the stuff) and ofcourse
working hatches and periscope. I have wanted to do this model since
I first seen it back in 1967 and I intend on doing it right.
You are so cool!
