You guys are missing out. That ugly ass packaging went right into the
trash, as these things need to be displayed alongside one another. Ursus
only looks good with a hand raised in the air, surrounded by a couple
soldiers. The sculpt jobs on all these figures are incredible, and
should be appreciated in all three dimensions. They nailed Roddy's
posture. Also, the old Addar model kits make perfect display bases for
    the figures (see pic).

When you're dead and in your coffins, who cares whether or not some
plastic figurines are mint in package? The worms won't care.

She has one, and it's a different sculpt than the original Zira
figure (smaller hairdo to fit inside the helmet).

As I understand it, they'll be releasing both - sort of teh way they
released two versions of the soldier ape (three if you count the
series, but they only listed two).

Sorry if this has been covered.

All you monkey-come-latelys, please chill. Every time Medicom
releases these figures, folks go berserk on Ebay and pay $50 or more
per figure, when a little patience will get them in your hot little
hands for $32 or so, without killing each other on Ebay to do it.
I've been buying these things for over a year, so believe me when I
say you only hurt each other by starting a buying frenzy.

Every single figure released so far, except that brown Cornelius, is
still available periodically from the sellers previously mentioned. I
suggest Ebay as a LAST resort (unless you use the Buy It Now
feature). You'll kick yourself later for buying at Ebay-inflated
prices. At $30 per, not every collector is snapping them up (just a
short while ago, Alex was scoffing at the prices), and Medicom
certainly seems to be making enough. This is a public service
announcement . . . WITH GUITARS!! (obscure reference, please ignore)

I'm with you pal. I don't get these things for investment value. They're
for me to enjoy. I display as much of my collection as I have room for. If
it gets old I can always rotate it. But I do envy those of you with the
scratch to keep MOC collections. When I get that kind of dough you can sell

Escape Zira would be more likely (hideous pink outfit).

I'm hoping (???) a Series Two can happen. You can easily get 20 more
    figures out of it:

    Julius
    Zaius (riding outfit)
    Dodge (lobotomized AND ANSA outfitted?)
    Landon (ANSA and stuffed?)
    Brent
    Mendez Mutant
    Victor Buono Mutant
    Couple other mutants
    Escape Zira and Cornelius
Caesar in cool as hell brown leather outfit
    Armando (a stretch)
    Virgil
    Cornelius II (kid chimp)
    John Huston as the Lawgiver

Okay, so maybe not 20. How about a scale version of the ship to make
    up the difference?

STEWART (ANSA.. not dead, that's just milking it!)
    TV ZAIUS
    GALEN
ALBINA (with removable mask or mask accessory)

Why don't you do one of your awesome customizing jobs on a barbie and stuff her into a Hasbro ANSA suit?  I'd like to see what you could do there!  Plus, commander Taylor already comes in a hybernation tube!!!

PS:  Stewart's orginal ANSA suit is up for sale!!!  The owner wants the monetary equivalent medium size family home for it.  Can we say "dreeeeeeeeeeeamer"?

      Hola Ape-o-holics-

Everyone MUST check out Coming Attractions (http://www.corona.bc.ca/films/details/apes.html") today for a MONSTER update from an extra on the set of the film.  He said the trailer is coming out on President's Day (I feel a sick day coming on).  This info is per Zanuck himself.

There's amazing detailed descriptions, some spoilers (nothing major, cool insider stuff) and a picture of an Ape extra in full make-up and costume.  He says the film is action-packed all the way.

Check out Amazon.com.  They are listing a book that will be released in June
2001.  It's called "Planet of the Apes: An Unofficial Companion" by David
      Hofstede.  It will cost $17.95.

      Hi guys,

I found this in an old issue of Starlog. I know some of you are
pursuing the footage and though this might help.

      Starlog/April 1981

" While the new package of Apes telefilms began to make its way
around the country on local TV stations, an interesting scheme was
hatched by the ABC owned and operated stations to make their
presentations a little more special and original. Roddy McDowall was
called upon to re-create his role of Galen to tape new footage for
the presentation by the ABC stations entitled "The New Planet of the
      Apes"
The footage created by Fox to open each feature was scrapped and
replaced by McDowall as the now aged Galen recalling his exciting
adventures. Each "chapter" of the five part presentation open and
closed with a monologue by Galen.
This special presentation was made for the ABC owned and operated
stations and can only be seen on them (although it's possible that
ABC affiliates may get this version, it is unlikely that any
affiliates of CBS, NBC or the independents will.)

Well, if the rumors are true and this is in fact another planet besides earth, then most likely these apes can look just about like anyone or anything. As earth apes would look different from apes of another planet. (as goes the theory of evolution)

So it seems that they have that pretty much covered.

          Hi Mez- - -

The "Liberator" was definitely shown, at least in the original U.S. run. I
remember I had a babysitter that night and she watched "Yes, Virginia, There
is a Santa Claus" on the "big" TV while I watched "The Liberator" on my TV.
I remember being bummed out because there's hardly any apes in that episode.
I got the information about the shooting from Ron Harper himself. I asked
him why, if they got to shoot one more episode after being cancelled, why
didn't do a wrap up episode? He said they held out hope for a last minute
          renewal.

Anyway, that's what Ron said. Bill Blake told me that CBS yhad approached
none other than Gene Roddenberry about revamping the show, getting it closer
in line with the original films, including having a Cornelius and Zira. In
fact he liked the stage show Bill and Paula Crist did as C & Z and had them
          audition in Roddenberry's home.

I can't necessarily vouch for any of this, but that's what Ron said,
          that's what Bill said.

Actually, all of the costumes had their "glyphs" removed for BATTLE.  Most of the glyphs were kept by Western Costumes and when Fuller French bought the entire ape costume collection from Western in the early 90's, he got the boxes of glyphs in the deal. He made sure that they were paired up with the costumes once again before he sold them all off.

The only costumes that I have ever seen that never had the glyphs removed are Maurice Evan's original Zaius jacket (that one was only used in the first two films and then went into a private collection until it came our way last year) and Zaius' riding jacket from BENEATH, also still is intact.

Where did you hear that Cameron wanted to pick up after "Battle"? From what I heard his idea was kinda an "Escape" meets "Terminator" , with advanced apes from the future coming to modern day to end human society. I'm doing an article about past ideas for the remake and Cameron is the toughest nut to crack (though I met him and got some quotes for Eric Greene's book).

The new film seems to be more like what Oliver Stone was going to do (alternate past, medieval apes). I don't think they could have continued from the p-revious movies because they knew going in that the apes would look different. - - - Jeff K.

You know it's very interesting to see how when Cameron wanted to do Planet of the Apes, he wanted to continue the film following BATTLE. And when one sees how this new remake comes down to a battle between ape and human according to the Fox exclusive and their logo (RULE THE PLANET). One can see that such a sequal to BATTLE could have been made. (with a few minor changes of course)

But I am glad that Fox did go the direction of a totaly new remake. Simply because of the fact that if one would have to see all five films to completely understand the remake, it could cause Fox to have a major bomb at the box office.

A very smart more by Fox to have a totaly new remake.
          How interesting.

Yeah, that was the exact story I read a while back when Cameron was involved in the Remake. Future, Present type script and involving Schwarzenegger and so on.
But then when the story hit that Cameron walked out on Planet of the Apes, it was said that he wanted to re-write the whole script and continue the film following Battle for the Planet of the Apes. I guess Cameron felt that he had some sort of pull following his TITANIC hit, but in the end Zanuck said no. Zanuck wanted a whole new remake, revisit, rethinking or whatever else one can call it.

But I don't recall which website had the story, this was a while back just months before Burton took over the project.

Sorry I don't remember. Those were the days of the uncertain future for apes and news in those days was very hard to come by. So I realy don't recall where I picked it up. But I do recall it was on a news website which gives you a 50/50 chance if it was true or not.

From what I've heard Cameron was long gone and Bill Mechanic just asked Bill Broyles to start fresh, forget the past ideas and come up with a new "Ape" script (this was after "Castaway" was written). He did and everybody seemed to think it was sensational. That's what attracted Burton and Zanuck came along about a month later. Now Burton has two rewriters (Burton's been quoted as saing he wouldn't know a good script if it hit him in the face). Well, that makes perfect sence seeing that Cameron was to produce the film and not direct it. Just goes to show you can't believe everything you hear on the web. As for the changes, seeing what's been released so far I'd say their off to a good start. (that image of Wahlberg coming out of that forest lake is intense, God only knows what hes looking at)

I've got a place that sells the Medicoms (both the figures and the Kubricks) for $25. That's a good price isn't it? And I don't have to wait for them to be shipped. Unfortunately, I'm broke at the moment. But they've got Nova, Taylor, all the Kubricks, including the "Beneath" one. My timing is terrible.   - - -  - Jeff K.

          Hi gang...

Well, as promised here is the first update on the spaceship project that
thanks to the plans sent in by Dave Ballard, is now beginning.

I have the 12" Col. Taylor, and I wanted to use this scale for the ship.
This works out to approximately 0.5 inches to the foot (Charlton Heston was
actually 6'2" tall, but I decided to leave the two inches off). Since the
actual ship (Lake Powell) was 45 feet in length, this means that my model
will be 90 inches in length and about 21 inches at its tallest part. I am
also making some additional drawings based upon the wreckage of "Beneath"
episode, which was the actual entire ship (this part was left off in POTA
since it was assumed that it would not be seen as it would be completely
under water). I have started with the capsule part first, and I will be
          cutting the framework this weekend.

As soon as I can get pics done I will send them out.

          Larry

          Or more like:

          NOW...FIGHT LIKE APES!!!

But all kidding aside, If I ever do clash with anyone here on the e-group over an e-bay auction. I just want to say in advance, nothing personal guys and gals.

Buy it now: is never a problem, but week old auctions can get a little out of hand sometimes. Which is why don't bid until final closing.

Happy hunting guys and gals and good luck too us all. Time to go sell my house to afford those medicoms!

          Best,

          Hey Everyone,

Check out Amazon.com.  They are listing a book that will be released in June
2001.  It's called "Planet of the Apes: An Unofficial Companion" by David
          Hofstede.  It will cost $17.95.

Has anyone heard of this book before??

Well, I don't know if it's a Ape has killed Ape band member becuse the photo is titled "Meeting Jeff Krueger" no doubt a big fan of Jeff's. Perhaps Jeff can shed some light on this.

            Great Article there Galen!
I'll use it for the site, but in the future try not uploading such a huge 400kb file to the group, for I'm sure that those who run on 56k would take a while to download. Try keeping any uploads to 30kb or less. If not use a link to the image.
For me it's no problem I have Cable Access, but I'v heard those on 56k on the group complain before on huge files.

A heads-up for all in the tri-state NYC area. Fox 5 has an episode of
the Simpsons on 2/3/01 at 7:30pm. It opens with a take-off on The Hunt scene,
as only the Simpsons can do. Check it out, John

Bart and Milhouse are banned for life from a comic-book store, until Comic Book Guy becomes a man in need of friends.

John is this the episode that will have that opening scene?
This is the description on my cable guide set to air at on Sunday 8:00 PM here in Florida.
Check and see what the description in your local guide says. I would love to post this episode scene on my site for all to see.
And if not run me a copy and I'll post it for everyone.

Hey Alex, the description in TV Guide says Bart falls for Rev Lovejoy's
daughter. I believe she is voiced by Meryl Streep. But I remeber it opens
with the adults hunting down the children, capturing them & bringing them to
church. Great bit with Nelson looking off into the distance a la Taylor when
the rams' horn sounds. Marge ridin' a horse like Marcus. It's pretty funny.
            Go Apes......John

I see what you mean...that is funny.
You would no doubt have to be a POTA fan to catch on to the meaning behind that bit.
The Simpson writers are no doubt Ape fans as there have been many bits such as that on the show.

Using a church of all things to reflect a POTA hunt.
            hehehe!!

My bad. It wasn't Marge riding the horse, it was Mr. Milhouse!! Great
bit with the net drag. Yeah, the people behind the Simpsons are definitely
POTA fans. Always glad to see a good pop culture reference. Go Apes, John

            Larry

            Sounds great Larry.
Send those pics when finished and I'll post them on the site.
So in the meantime just jam out to the CD I sent you and let those creative juices flow baby! yeah!

            Best,

Galen (sorry I don't know your real name).

            Are you from NZ?

I am an Aussie.  You might be able to help me with a question.  In 1977 (when I was in year 6) a friend of mine returned from a trip to New Zealand where he said he bought a Planet of the Apes Ice Block (or a frozen pop as you would say in the US).

Do you know anything of these?

            Michael

Interesting piece of reading I thought.
