That's a valid comment, but in Heston's defence - there are only so many
ways to tell the same story and if people want to hear something different,
how about asking him some different bloody questions!

.htmlYeah, I was referring to the comment of the "naked" Caesar in "Conquest"
and whether people had a similar reaction to the naked General and Herr
Zauis. I wasn't disturbed that the scene took place in a sauna.
By the way, I checked out the blooper in that scene after it was mentioned
that the extra had a rip in his suit. That thing is going to jump out at me
forever more! No more bloopers! Or at least a warning like a spoiler
warning.
I will contribute my own and that's it: in "Escape" , how does Cornelius
know how to open the gate during the escape? He ducks down when it's
demonstrated.

Alex, you should cross-pollinate somehow, since
there were "Terminator" people who had a hand in the development of the new
"Apes" (Cameron, Ah-nuld, Stan Winston). --

Anything and everything to promote the new
remake.
Good Idea Jeff...I'll soon be getting to that once
I have a good 50% of the Terminator on line.

| Subject: Pauline Kael's ramblings. |
|
.html .htmlI think Jeff Krueger said here that Pauline Kael, once the influencial film
critic at The New Yorker Magazine, thought PLANET OF THE APES the best
Science Fiction film ever. Well, I don't know about that, but she did like
it and her positive review, so I've read, surprised everyone and helped make
POTA a hit. Here it is from the February 17th, 1968 New Yorker, including
the review's title:
"Apes Must Be Remembered, Charlie"
"'Planet of the Apes' is a very entertaining movie, and you'd better go see
it quickly, before your friends take the edge off it by telling you all about
it. They will, because it has the ingenious kind of plotting people love to
talk about. If it were a great picture, it wouldn't need this kind of
protection; it's just good enough to be worth the rush.
"Adapted from a novel by Pierre Boulle, 'Planet of the Apes' most closely
resembles George Pal's 1960 version of H.G. Wells' 1895 novel 'The Time
Machine.' It's also a little like 'Forbidden Planet,' the 1956
science-fiction adaptation of 'The Tempest,' though it's perhaps more
cleverly sustained than either of those movies. At times, it has the
primitive force of old 'King Kong.' It isn't a difficult or subtle movie;
you can just sit back and enjoy it. That should place the genre closely
enough, without spoiling the theme or the plot. The writing, by Michael
Wilson and Rod Serling, though occasionally bright, is often fancy-ironic in
the old school of poetic disillusion. Even more often, it is crude. But the
construction is really extraordinary. What seem to be weaknesses or holes in
the idea turn out to be perfectly consistent, and sequences that work only at
a simple level of parody while you're watching them turn out to be really
funny when the total structure is revealed. You're too busy for much
disbelief anyway; the timing of each action or revelation is right on the
button. The audience is rushed along with the hero, who keeps going as fact
as possible to avoid being castrated or lobotomized. The picture is an
enormous, many-layered black joke on the hero and the audience, and part of
the joke is the use of Charlton Heston as the hero. I don't think the movie
could have been so forceful or so funny with anyone else. Physically,
Heston, with his perfect, lean-hipped, powerful body, is a god-like hero;
built for strength, he's an archetype of what makes Americans win. He
doesn't play a nice guy; he's harsh and hostile, self-centered and
hot-tempered. Yet we don't hate him, because he's so magnetically strong; he
represents American power -- the physical attraction and admiration one feels
toward the beauty of strength as well as the moral revulsion one feels toward
the ugliness of violence. And he has the profile of an eagle. Franklin
Schaffner, who directed 'Planet of the Apes,' uses the Heston of the
preposterous but enjoyable 'The Naked Jungle' -- the man who is so absurdly a
movie-star myth. He is the perfect American Adam to work off some American
guilt feelings or self-hatered on, and this is part of what makes this new
violent fantasy so successful as comedy.
"'Planet of the Apes' is one of the best science-fiction fantasies ever to
come out of Hollywood. That doesn't mean it's art. It is not conceived in
terms of vision or mystery or beauty. Science-fiction fantasy is a peculiar
genre; it doesn't seem to result in much literary art, either. This movie
is efficient and craftsmanlike; it's conceived and carried out for maximum
popular appeal, though with a cautionary message, and with some attempts to
score little points against various forms of establishment thinking. These
swifties are not Swift, and the movie's posture of superiority is somewhat
embarrassing. Brechtian pedagogy doesn't work in Brecht, and it doesn't work
here, either. At best, this is a slick commercial picture, with it's
elements carefully engineered -- pretty girl (who unfortunately doesn't seem
to have had acting training), comic reliefs, thrills, chases -- but when
expensive Hollywood engineering works, as it rarely does anymore, the results
can be impressive. Schaffner has thought out the action in terms of the wide
screen, and he uses space and distance dramatically. Leon Shamroy's
excellent color photography helps to make the vast exteriors (shot in Utah
and Arizona) an integral part of the meaning. The editing, though, is
somewhat distracting; several times there is a cut and then a view of what we
have already seen from a different angle or from much higher up. The effect
is both static (we don't seem to be getting anywhere) and overemphatic (we
are conscious of being told to look at the same thing another way). The
makeup (there is said to be a million dollars' worth) and the costuming of
the actors playing the apes are rather witty, and the apes have a wonderful
nervous, hoping walk. The best little hopper is Kim Hunter, as an ape lady
doctor; she somehow manages to give a better performance in this makeup than
she has ever given on the screen before."
Well, that was a sort of backhanded positive review, but at least those last
comments should please T. What do you say, T?

Well, I wasn't sure but this year's Best
Director Oscar winner Steven Soderbergh ("Traffic") said Pauline Kael said it
was the best science fiction film ever based on that review. Obviously he was
wrong (come to think of it, I think she said that about the 1978 remake of
"Invasion of the Body Snatchers"). Anyway, "Apes" was the first movie
Soderbergh saw (though he says "Jaws" - - produced by Richard Zanuck - - was his
biggest influence) and he thought it was cool Kael gave it such a good review.
Read his comments in the current issue of "Total Film" (or is it "Total Movie"?
The one with the DVD).

Subject: [pota] Pauline Kael's
ramblings.
I think Jeff Krueger said here that
Pauline Kael, once the influencial film critic at The New Yorker Magazine,
thought PLANET OF THE APES the best Science Fiction film ever. Well,
I don't know about that, but she did like it and her positive review, so
I've read, surprised everyone and helped make POTA a hit. Here it is
from the February 17th, 1968 New Yorker, including the review's title:
"Apes Must Be Remembered, Charlie"
"'Planet of the Apes' is a
very entertaining movie, and you'd better go see it quickly, before your
friends take the edge off it by telling you all about it. They will,
because it has the ingenious kind of plotting people love to talk about.
If it were a great picture, it wouldn't need this kind of
protection; it's just good enough to be worth the rush.
"Adapted
from a novel by Pierre Boulle, 'Planet of the Apes' most closely resembles
George Pal's 1960 version of H.G. Wells' 1895 novel 'The Time Machine.'
It's also a little like 'Forbidden Planet,' the 1956 science-fiction
adaptation of 'The Tempest,' though it's perhaps more cleverly sustained
than either of those movies. At times, it has the primitive force of
old 'King Kong.' It isn't a difficult or subtle movie; you can just
sit back and enjoy it. That should place the genre closely enough,
without spoiling the theme or the plot. The writing, by Michael
Wilson and Rod Serling, though occasionally bright, is often fancy-ironic
in the old school of poetic disillusion. Even more often, it is
crude. But the construction is really extraordinary. What seem

|
.html .htmlJust two things to things to throw out for conversation.
1st thing:Don't get me wrong,I think "ESCAPE" is pretty good, but am I the
only one that thinks it should not have been so "light"?I myself liked the
way the novelization of it wasn't so cute (for lack of a better term). To
me,the book is better.Any comments from the group ?
2nd:Do any group members know if there is any way to read the Apes
heiroglyphics?
In issue #13 of POTA from the 70s,Bill Blake and Paula Crist kind of give
their opinions on the subject, but I'm not sure if I think their comments are
right. Two examples they give are:the "half moon"over the chest symbol means
"doctor".Well if thats true, explain the "half moon" on the female gorilla's
outfit.
They also say the chest plate symbol its self means "scientist".Again,I
question this.If that is true, why does Julius have one?Granted its not quite
the same as the chimps, but he does have one,and he certainly isn't a
scientist. And the female gorilla also has a chest symbol.Hell, even the child
gorilla has one.So maybe the 'glyphic design means something, but having one
doesn't necessarily mean you have a certain position.I'm not saying this is
or isn't true,because I really don't know.I always thought of the
heiroglyphics as having a meaning of having status, but I never gave any
thought to them being assigned to your occupation. It could be true, after all
the tv series medical Apes all seem to have the design with the snake on
it.And the general gorillas seem to have the same designs on their helmets
and chest plate on their collar. Then again, look at the council Apes on the tv
show, they are the Supreme Council, highest position in the Ape world and they
don't always have heiroglyphics on their outfits,so I really can't say
anything on this subject.
So does anybody know if there really is a way that you can read them, and if
the designs on them really do show the occupation they hold?Any ideas on this
(especially ones that could be supported by the costume designers themselves)?

May have been
HIGHLIGHTED, but how about the WHOLE test makeup
scene?
If I have it on tape, and they obviously have a cleaner
version that
they showed pieces of, putting the whole thing on a disc
should be
easy.
Oh, I think
I called for the complete test film before. I have it on tape,
too, but
the print used in the documentary was excellent. For those who
don't know,
the test film begins with conceptual sketches Jabobs had done by
artists,
is narrated by someone who tells you about the 'proposed' film, and
is scored
by music from the "Lost in Space" TV show. It's pretty cool, and
should
have been included on the present DVD boxed set.
I think
it was included in a Japanese laserdisc boxed set that also included
the longer
version of BATTLE.

That's all it takes.
Best and take care buddy.
Yes Rory I have DVD, I saw the images, very
interesting but I don't have the time right now to capture them. The net has
been crearly taking up too much of my time lately. I'm not doing an
interview with Linda, just a novascope.

Maybe it shouldn't have been so "light" or a better word "larky," but it
worked for me as a kid, and now, except for the makeup not being as good as
in the original, it still works -- if you don't think too much on how those

As for the novelizations... ESCAPE's and CONQUEST's were excellent. I
haven't read them since the Seventies, but I remember thinking then they were
better than the films.

Well, I don't know about the Conan soundtrack, but the Sarabande PLANET OF
THE APES soundtrack CD has fairly good liner notes, written by POTA fan and
writer for Film Score Monthly, Jeff Bond. I, of course, would have liked
more, but that's just me -- I'm never satisfied. But as someone who collects

I think we've been through this discussion before. The only one
I have been able to get any info about, although not conclusive, are the
Chimp Scientist glyphs. They are obviously an interesting homage
to Einstein's "E=MC2" (see attached).
-
The first character of the glyph is most recognizably an "E",
-
the "=" sign is represented by the two dots within the stems of the
"E".
-
The "M" of the equation is represented by the two vertical and one broken
lines that follow the "E".
-
The character representing the "squared" "2" is the last character,
which resembles a 2 with a closed tail.
-
The missing "C" from the equation is the half-moon symbol above the
glyph patch.
As far as meanings of other characters and glyphs, I know that
Julius' glyph is the same as other gorilla guards even though you never
see the guards shirts (they always have their leather vests on).
The sergeant and lieutenant gorillas sport ranking glyphs on their
sashes. The lieutenant displays 3 on the back, and at least one on the
front between the two wallets. He may have 1 or 2 more on the front
wrapping up and over the shoulder, but it's been a while since I've looked
at pics of him.
The child gorilla and orangutan priest share the same glyph, so what
does that mean, if anything?
The orangs all share a varying degree of glyph patterns, the highest
ranking being Whitmore's President of the Assembly character who's costume
is heavily laden with large glyph patches.
As far as meanings to the glyph patterns, I think it would be great
to dig up the ol' costume designers and art department folks and ask them
questions about this. Who knows? They could just be cool designs
that work well as compositions on the wardrobes.
Who wants to write to Bill Creber or Morton Haack's estate?

|
.html .htmlA few weeks ago, Matt of MI, asked if anyone knew anthing about the 'Planet
of the Men' script written by Pierre Boulle. Since all I knew was what I'd
read, I posted a excerpt of Eric Greene's book on it. Then someone posted
where the script could be bought. I contacted Matt privately about this and
we agreed that I'd get the script and he'd pay me to send him a copy. The
greater idea was that after we'd both read it, we'd then carry on a series of
postings discussing this script in detail. As far as I was concerned I'd
probably excerpt parts of it so you all could read some of what we had.
We're both ready to start this.
However, some of you may not like to have this script 'spoiled' for you, so
I'd like to hear from the group if anyone objects. Matt agrees and in fact
was the first to suggest I make this posting.
If anyone here would like a copy of the PLANET OF THE MEN script, I'd be
happy to send them one if they would contact me privately at:
Haristas@...
I will have to ask that those in the US send me $15 for the cost of making a
copy and mailing it. I think this is a fair sum. Those in Australia or
England would probably have to pay me something like 20 to 25 US dollars, but
I'm not sure. I'd send it Global Priority Mail and tell you after it's sent
how much it all cost. Anyone who doesn't pay gets called 'a very bad man (or
woman)' by me here for all to see.
Knowing this group as I think I do, probably most of you couldn't care less
what Matt and I do. That's fine, you're only 'human.' It's just that we're
trying to make the postings here a little more interesting, but then such is
the folly of man.

I'd like to, but sadly collecting original posters isn't a cheap hobby. I
collect some original items, but in most cases I think I'd settle for a
decent quality reprint.
>Lobby cards, 11"x14" These are printed on card stock and usually come
eight
>to a set in the US. In other countries though they will vary in size and
>number per set.
Some of these I have - a Conquest set from France (I have 9 of them, I have
no idea if there are more in the set or not), which measure 11" by about
8.5". I like them, but they're certainly not as good as the usual 8x10 lobby
cards. I also have a set of these ones (8 in the set I think) which I think
are excellent.
Nothing to do with lobby cards really, but I like the mass-produced 8x10
photographs - they're good quality and cheap, so they're a decent
alternative to lobby cards if you're just looking for something nice to
stick in frame or have signed by an actor or whatever.
>British quad poster, 40"x30" This poster is the standard British size, an
>oblong image.
I have two of these, I don't when they're from (i.e. whether they're from
the original releases or a later reissues - I am assuming the latter). One
is the poster for Beneath, which I absolutely love. The other is the double
bill of Battle with The Neptune Factor - this one isn't quite so good as the
image of a gorilla holding a mutant aloft is one of the weakest PotA poster
images I've seen. Still, at least it isn't like the foreign version of the
same picture, which features flying saucers and things like that.
Both are folded, but otherwise in pretty good condition (slight wear round
the edges). To be honest I'd have been foolish to turn them down since they
were both under a tenner each.
>There is also the PLANET British quad. This is a poster I wish I had.
Well if we're talking about ones we wish we had, I could go on forever. But
one in particular - despite the fact that it gives away the ending and that
the illustration isn't that great, I find the polish one ("Planeta Malp" or
whatever, it's one of the ones that Rory said was in the Film Posters of the
60s book) really striking, and wouldn't mind one of them.
That's all for now.

|
.html .htmlPoor Chuck has been taking an awful beating here recently and rightly so --
he puts in his ultra-conservative two cents in all the time about this or
that, and apparently has the ego to keep it going to his dying day. One of
the funniest descriptions of him I ever read was when Spy Magazine called him
"a right-wing, rug-wearing pomposity."
But, I can't help but feel sorry for old 'Charlie Hero,' as Roddy McDowall
used to call him. It's just so pathetic seeing how completely blind he is to
what an ass he's made of himself.
Still, he was my favorite movie star when I was a kid. I loved 'ya, man!
So, I thought I'd talk a little about my favorite 'Charlie Hero' movies, and
the rest of you APES movie-loving pomposities can reply with your hopefully
hilarious comments.
DARK CITY (1950) Chuck's first movie and an okay film noir. Chuck thinks he
looks fat in it. I guess so, but what's really funny for me is here he is in
his first movie and already Charlton Heston is 'Charlton Heston' -- and
that's what you're gonna get from now on. What a guy!
THE GREATEST SHOW ON EARTH (1952) In this 'hard-to-watch-cause-it's-so-hokey'
DeMille extravaganza, Chuck is almost killed in a train wreck, but an
elephant helps save him and the circus is back on the road. What a guy! The
interesting thing in this movie is that near the beginning Chuck hugs a baby
gorilla. Little does Chuck know what's to come!
THE SAVAGE (1952) Chuck plays a white guy raised by Indians. Chuck is a
wooden Indian in this movie, which is bad, bad, bad, BUT fun at times to
watch.
THE PRESIDENT'S LADY (1953) Chuck plays 'Old Hickory' Andrew Jackson for the
first time. The second was in 1958's THE BUCCANEER. Chuck liked playing
Jackson. Jackson was one of our Presidents, as Chuck often reminds us.
Jackson liked killing Indians, as Chuck doesn't often remind us. This is an
okay movie, but sort of just fair.
PONY EXPRESS (1953) Ah, now he's vintage Chuck, the Heston we all know and
love as Buffalo Bill Cody. He kicks butt, kills Indians, and rides off at
the end with his heart broken 'cause his girl dies. He also wears a silly
hat, but that's okay because the movie is mostly tongue-in-cheek and very
watchable. Check it out.
ARROWHEAD (1953) Chuck is back and he's killing more Indians, including a
very pissed-off Jack Palance. This movie's not great, but not bad either.
THE NAKED JUNGLE (1953) Chuck vs. army ants!! This one is good. Heston is
a real bastard in it, but I think that's because he's a virgin! Yes, I said
virgin. Anyway, he becomes a hero after he gets laid. What does this have
to do with fighting army ants? Watch it and find out.
SECRET OF THE INCAS (1954) Chuck is like an Indiana Jones guy in this one.
The movie isn't that good, but it's got Chuck in it, so I watch it.
THE FAR HORIZONS (1955) The story of the Lewis and Clark expidedition is
made dull in this movie. Fred MacMurray plays Lewis, Chuck is Clark. Chuck
gets to fight more Indians in this one, and I think he bangs Sacajawea, but
because this is a Fifties' movie they don't show it. DAMN!!!
THE PRIVATE WAR OF MAJOR BENSON (1955) This is a comedy and it's good, and
Chuck is good in it. Who would have guessed? Sal Mineo is also in it, POTA
fans, but I don't know.... Sal Mineo at a boy's military school? There's
another movie in here, if you know what I mean?
THE TEN COMMANDMENTS (1956) As I write this, this movie is on tonight. It's
like on every year. It's another hokey DeMille extravaganza. I think it's
so bad it's funny. Chuck plays Moses, of course, and he looks very serious
about it. I think why is because he believes all this stuff. Poor deluded
Chuck. This movie made him a big star, and I think got the big star 'ego'
thing going full blast with ol' Chuck. Chuck, Chuck, "You stubborn,
splendid, adorable fool!" GET OVER YOURSELF!!!
I'm gonna have to continue this thing with a sequel. I'm getting to feeling
kind of Chucked-out, so I'm going to Chuck-it for now.
To be continued....

Hey Alan,
Nice response. I found it very interesting. If anyone is interested, I work
in a professional film lab and I've created a "decent quality reprint" of the
American half-sheet from PLANET OF THE APES. I've sent one to Jeff Krueger
and I think he thinks it's 'decent.' I'm going to have to figure a way to
get a scan of it to post here, then if anyone would like one we can talk. I
don't know if 20th Century-Fox would object -- I don't think they have rights

But nothing you should have heard already.
Yet again Hollywood takes the movie they should have made!
And the movie we should have seen and pisses in it, like a porn director who
keeps showing the dude's face. Pardon the colorful metaphore. I sure hope
Burton plans on a directors cut or DVD extras or something. But he's
starting to sound like a Chihuahua carting wuss, who knuckled under to
pressure from the Hollywood bigwigs. To paraphrase DeNiro . . .
One day a real apes movie will be made.
Excerpts from Reel.com
In case you haven't figured what I'm talking about.
*****
Well, they kiss at one point, but then so did Heston and Hunter.
It would have worked, too. The script I read — a five-month-old draft by
William Broyles, with revisions by Lawrence Konner and Mark Rosenthal —
builds Leo and Ari's relationship nicely, step by emotional step, to the
point where I was fairly prepared to accept a moment of physical intimacy
between them. The word had been that Burton wanted to go for it, but I guess
he wimped out. Or he was pressured into dropping it. Or the rumors were wrong
to begin with.
Or maybe Burton decided to heat things up after all, and it's just not in the
script.
There's actually a romantic triangle of sorts between Wahlberg,
Bonham-Carter, and Estella Warren, who plays a feral human named Daena.
You'd figure with these two females nurturing feelings for the sexy,
courageous Wahlberg, whose Leo turns into a kind of reluctant revolutionary
hero, and with Warren starting to hiss at Bonham-Carter as their rivalry
grows, that Burton would want to resolve this with some kind of … well,
payoff. Why plant the seeds if you don't want sprouts? <.html

He was
extremely rude and un co-operative. He claimed I was trying to run a scam

challenged my IQ because I was not an expert on what is official Pez and what is
rubbish made in someone's backyard. I would have bought it if it was

Sure,
he's got a good feedback rating and no negative feedback so he could be a good

I am
not the only one who thinks he is on another Planet himself for choosing to put

And

By the

you. Are you sure it was this person? What did you

Well I disagree.
He was extremely rude and un co-operative. He claimed I was trying to run

actually challenged my IQ because I was not an expert on what is official

if it was official, but it was not and I felt he should have advertised it
as such.
Sure, he's got a good feedback rating and no negative feedback so he could
be a good person to deal with normally.
Would you be happier if I did not mention my totally Apes related BAD
experience with the guy?
I am not the only one who thinks he is on another Planet himself for
choosing to put Kiss make up on an ape - it is a totally ridiculous thing
to do - if I may be entitled to an opinion.
And unless his effort is SUPPOSED to be abstract, it is a very poor attempt.
By the way, if you really did deal with this person, he forgot to leave
feedback for you. Are you sure it was this person? What did you buy?
Michael
Michael,
If you were treated the way you said you were,I can certainly see why you
would be mad at him.I was NOT trying to come across as defending him.You have
a right to be pissed off.
And no,I am very glad that you chose to voice your bad dealing with him.A
week or two ago,I myself kind of asked the group to tell of any bad
experiences they may have had with dealers.(As well praising those dealers
they think went out of their way to treat the customers right.)
As far as him making Ursus into Gene Simmons,I am TOTALLY WITH YOU ON THAT!!!
It is not cool, and it makes a mockery of Apes.I sure the hell wouldn't want
it.
AND YES I REALLY DID DEAL WITH HIM.WHAT THE HELL DO YOU THINK I WOULD GAIN BY
SAYING I DID IF I DIDN'T?!? I didn't receive feedback from him,nor did he
from me,because I dealt with him off of eBay,therefore we couldn't leave
feedback if we wanted to.My dealing with him started because I looked at one
of his ads,and he was looking for a certain trading card.I happened to have
one,as well as several others he needed so we worked out a trade via
email. Why I am even telling YOU this is beyond me.It really is none of your
business, but since I said it,I said it and I'll leave it for everyone to
read.I don't care.
You don't have to be so questioning of me because you had a bad dealing with
him, work it out with him.I'm not the one you should be pissed at.All I said
was that he was fair to me,I never said he was good (or bad) in dealing with
you.And unless he would piss me off personally,I would deal with him
again, either on eBay or off because he was fair to me.<.html

Generous offer Rory, but beware.
Fox would still hold rights to the imagery and advertising materials
for the films. So it could well be a Liscencing and Merchandising issue.
If you were to make a profit from reproduction posters, it could be perceived
as pirating. Not that anyone on this group (that we know of) would squeal
but I do know that Fox's L&M department is all over the net looking
for people who are profiteering from unofficial merchandise based on their
properties. As an official licensee, Brian of Apemania may be able to shed
more light on the restrictions involved.

Hey Alan,
Nice response.
I found it very interesting. If anyone is interested, I work
in a professional
film lab and I've created a "decent quality reprint" of the
American
half-sheet from PLANET OF THE APES. I've sent one to Jeff Krueger

he thinks it's 'decent.' I'm going to have to figure a way to

don't know

Stop
it - I'm getting off on this!
Michael
There was also a scene in the
novelisation of BENEATH where a gorilla guard goes the grope on Mutant
Albina's boob after she committed suicide. That's Bestiality PLUS
Necrophilia.. a double taboo whammy!

Michael
I know this movie
sucks in the same way that a lot of people in this
group seem to think its the greatest movie ever
made.Its a pre-conceived opinion,but as far as I'm concerned,my
opinion on this won't change. Its like lets say you don't think
you like a certain style of music or something. You
are gonna think
its a waste of time no matter what others are saying. That
is how I feel about this movie, and you won't convince me
otherwise.
And as far as your
question about the Zira/Taylor kiss, that is really
not bestiality.I did not see them trying "do it",did
you?All it was was a goodbye,not romantically inclined.Zira was
even hesitant to kiss Taylor, and she did tell him
"You're so damned ugly",so you see she was in no
way attracted to him. There was no sex between
them.
And I am SO GLAD
that they didn't do the half ape/half human bit. That
would have ruined Planet of the Apes right
there. But thankfully they came to their senses and did not go thru
with it.I guess it took Fox 30 years to ruin
Apes with that new movie of theirs.

OK so
you are admitting you have a pre-conception about something you have not
experienced. Your opinion may not change, but nor is it educated.
I'm not trying to sway you either way but I know the truth is that you do not
know either way and will not unless/until you see the movie. You know
that, and you know that your saying the new movie sux is
garbage.
It's a
bit like consentual homosexuality - you can say you would not choose it for
whatever reason, but to say it "SUX" or to really have an opinion that
MATTERS, you would really have to experience it.
So
there was no flirting between Taylor and Zira? No reason for Cornelius'
jealous hiss? Certainly there was nothing concrete, but I would not be
alone in believing there was an implied sexual tension there between Zira and
Taylor. Just as there will be an implied sexual tension between
Bonham-Carter's character and Wahlberg's character. Difference is, I
believe this time the Bonham-Carter character is half human already (is that
right Alex?). So which is more tame?
The
group has already covered this topic at length - you may wish to go through the
Yahoo Archives to find the relevant e-mails.

She's 80% human now so she's like a missing link.
Did anyone ever see that movie Skullduggery?

.htmlYeah but he tried to control the sequels and screwed everything up. I blame
Heston alone for many of the plot holes. If he did not insist on having the
world blown up, Boulle's script may have been filmed and the script writers
would not have had to make up the Escape plot (or they could have gone
Prequel, but I don't think that was heard of then!).
Thoughts Rory?

I have to agree. He's the go to guy for over the top Sci-fi. You I could
see Eastwood maybe doing Omega Man of Soylent Green but not Apes.

Alex, I cast my vote for Terminator.
I believe Terminator it will be, not only is the
film great but I just visited the Matrix Official Site and like Gladiator...they
have it all on the site.
As Terminator has very little on the
web..
So coming soon...Terminator!
With also a page of course on Terminator 3
countdown.
New Apes comics.
Enjoy and thanks.

.html I'm not saying that the new film will suck. And even if it should I'm glad
they're making something, at least. But they shouldn't pull a scene just
because it might piss someone off. Any more than they should put one in
trying to please everyone. It either works or it doesn't. If the guy said
it works, I'll take his word for it until I've seen for myself and make up my
own mind. It's just unfortunate I probably won't get the opportunity to see
it as it was originally intended, which is what directors cuts are for. If
only Burton believed in doing directors cuts. What the DVD needs is a fans
cut. Do I think this will be the definitive Apes? No. How can it be until
they pull out all the stops -- Which they obviously have not done. Just my
opinion, Man. <.html

Wow you missed a good bad one.
It was a 70s flick with Burt Reynolds who was using a bunch of orang type
missing links to work a diamond mine in the jungle. It came up in court
whether or not they were human, and Burt was a slaver. Kinda cool and at the
same time vintage cheese. The only reason I bring it up is the female lead
kind of looked like a readheaded Ari. I don't want to spoil the ending for
you but the chances of seeing this one are slim to none so if you want to
know I'll tell ya. <.html
