At 09:48 AM 4/15/01 -0400, you wrote:
Okay,
now before you get too excited, I'm not talkin' Classic APES here.
Well good, actually, because this is getting a tad ridiculous.
I waited for years for PotA to become available on video, priced
for home use. (For years, it was some outrageous price like
$85,
obviously a price aimed at video stores, not at consumers.)
Then when it finally DID come out on video, I was disappointed
that it was pan-and-scan, because that obscured some really
great wide-angle shots, like the three hear-no-evil-see-no-evil
orangutans at the hearing, and the shot of Taylor and Cornelius
talking to each other across the ravine.
But okay, I bought it, but I was disappointed.
Then DVD's came out, and I wondered why PotA wasn't on DVD.
But at least it came out in widescreen format on VHS at that
time, so I bought that too, but again I was disappointed, because
I wanted the DVD.
Then, just a year or two later, it finally came out on DVD, and I
felt disappointed again, because (a) it seemed clear to me that
this was a ploy to get me to buy the movie several times, and
(b) it was working.
But good lord, if they come out with a special edition of the
DVD (and I'm talking about the first film here), I'm going to be
more and more upset about all of this. Why can't Fox just do
it right the first time, and quit stringing me along like this???
(If they ever DO create a "special edition" of the first film,
here's
hoping they spend some time to get the subtitles correct. It
still irks me that the subtitles have Zaius saying, "Your
greed
made a desert of it," when we all know that he really says
that
"Your BREED made a desert of it." There are others that
need
corrections, but that one really bugs me.)

.html I've never read the complete draft of POTM. Just that bit that was
posted the other day. That translation has got to. Yikes! I've never agreed
with Heston's position that there was no need for a sequel. Far to the
contrary. Speaking for myself, the end of POTA immediately brings to mind the
question "What happened next?" It makes perfect sense for Taylor's character
to complete the journey to rediscovering his humanity. And resurrecting
humanity. Sure it seems obvious, but sometimes that's the best way to go. Any
thoughts? John P.S. Happy Holidays to all. <.html

I should outbid him.I really think I would if the shipping wasn't so damn
high. But if I did,he'd probably try to find some political reason as to why I
did it.
And by the way,am I the only one that REALLY thinks Eric Greene really should
not have been involved with the APES documentary? In all honesty I think they
should have just stuck with people that were actually INVOLVED with the
production of the films.I mean just cuz he wrote that book of his does not
mean he is an authority on any of it.I think I would rather have seen one of
you guys in there. It would have made as much sense. <.html

How is Michael Hellen?!! He's in
Australia? I was just telling Rory he supplied all the posters and stuff for the
John Chambers tribute. Last I heard he got married and couldn't collect any
more. Does he still collect? Tell him Jeff Krueger says

Naw, it's just each to their own. I
don't get Natalie's love of TV detective shows. I don't know what Booth is in

liked the "6 Million Dollar Man" or "Starsky and Hutch" while I liked "Apes".
That's what's so great about this group. Apes of a

Subject: [pota] "Planet of the Men" and
Pierre Boulle
Well, my thoughts on the "Planet of the
Men" script so far is firstly "Why did Boulle write this?" He
was not a screenwriter, and in fact I read once where he thought watching
films was rather juvenile. I also remember that in an interview with
Boulle in the 1972 POTA issue of Cinefantastique, when he was asked about
this script all he said was, "Yes, I played the game."
What I suspect
brought this script into being was that Boulle had probably sold the
screenrights to his book for next to nothing back in '63 or '64.
So, now in '68 the movie adaptation is a huge hit and Boulle isn't seeing
any money. When the studio decided very quickly to do a
sequel, Boulle or his agent probably saw an opportunity to make a little
money. Jacobs may have very kindly offered Boulle some of the money
APES was making if Boulle would submit a treatment. The Boulle
script sort of reads like a script version of just a treatment.
Boulle certainly had no sense of how to stage a scene, of what would
make an audience unintentionally laugh, and he for sure couldn't write
dialogue. But he probably didn't worry about any of this, for as
anyone who's studied Hollywood filmmaking knows, scripts aren't written --
they're re-written.
I have a 1996 book about the writings of
Pierre Boulle by Lucille Frackman Becker, who had a correspondence with
Boulle during the last couple years of his life. As regards to POTA,
it's rather interesting.
Becker calls Boulle's "La planete des singes"
a "remarkably conceived and executed" novel, that "is primarily a work of
social criticism reminiscent of Swift and Voltaire." And that
Boulle considered the book "not science fiction, " that "the apes in the
work are like humans as two peas in a pod; they are in fact human beings.
The novel is really satire; the characters you see in 'Planet of the
Apes' have nothing in common with the fantastic beings that populate works
of science fiction."
Becker also writes, "Like Voltaire's tale
'Micromegas,' Boulle's novel mocks humankind's anthropocentric
theory of the universe from which human beings derive their sense of
importance."
But wait until you read what Becker thinks of the 1968
film adaptation:
"All philosophical inquiry and all social critism
have been ignored by the makers of the film 'Planet of the Apes,' who,
unfortunately, converted the novel into what is called 'space opera,' a
type of fiction midway between bad science fiction and nonscience fiction,
patterned on the western and containing diverse elements taken from the
fairy or fantastic tale." And of the scenes of the astronaut's trek
in the beginning of the film she writes, "Then they are shown walking
along in the desert, outlined against the vast sky of the typical cowboy
film. Like most westerns, the film contains many chase sequenses,
including the hunting scene from the novel, but here, in a change approved
by Boulle, the apes are on horseback instead of on foot as in the
traditional hunting beat he described in the novel.
"The denouement of
the film is equally unsatisfactory. Aided by friendly chimpanzees
('good' Indians) and chased by hostile gorillas and orangutans ('bad'
Indians), Taylor and Nova escape on horseback across the American western
landscape. After a series of shootouts, with apes falling from
horses and off cliffs, they find themselves on a beach. Before them,
buried in the sand, is part of the Statue of Liberty.
"This
conclusion was dictated by the producers of the film, who fely the need
for something more dramatic -- or perhaps psychologically more acceptable
-- than apathy to explain the collapse of human civilization, and decided
on a nuclear war, a convention of the time. While Pierre Boulle
disapproved of the film, because it ignored the philosophical and social
questions at the heart of his work, he was particulary critical of the
ending, which even did away with the notion of space travel by indicating
that the protagonist had, in fact, never left Earth."
WELL!!!
I guess she didn't like the film to much. Actually, I don't think
she gave it much consideration.
A funny thing about her book is
that there's no mention of Boulle's "Planet of the Men" script. I
tried to write her about it, but they were returned address unknown.
I do think she is kind of right about PLANET playing more like a
western (with elements of Tarzan movies) than like whatever her idea of
what a Science Fiction movie should be. I've for a long time seen
the leather-jacket gorillas in the hunt sequence as like the US Cavalry of
the 1870's hunting down Indians -- and in a field of maize to boot!
But, anyway, to bring this all back around to the "Planet of the Men"
script.... This thing is definitely Boulle trying to reclaim the concept
away from what Rod Serling brought to it. Now Taylor, like
Merou in the novel, will attempt to be a savior of mankind, and as you'll
see -- as with all of Boulle's works laced with irony -- nothing turns out
well.

I don't think Boulle got cheated.
I'd have to ask Natalie about this, but Jacobs seemed fair. Certainly the films
helped Boulle's novel to be sold and probably made him rich (if he wasn't
already from "Kwai").
But most likely he wrote "Planet of
the Men" for even more money, and the chance to write a movie. Lots of novelists
look down their nose at Hollywood but don't hesitate to jump in when there's
opportunities.\
"Men" is an interesting read coming
from the man who created "Planet of the Apes" but it's not a good script (though
neither was
"Beneath").

Well good, actually, because this is getting a tad
ridiculous.
I waited for years for PotA to become available on video,
priced for home use. (For years, it was some outrageous price like
$85, obviously a price aimed at video stores, not at
consumers.)
Then when it finally DID come out on video, I was
disappointed that it was pan-and-scan, because that obscured some
really great wide-angle shots, like the three
hear-no-evil-see-no-evil orangutans at the hearing, and the shot of Taylor
and Cornelius talking to each other across the ravine.
But okay, I
bought it, but I was disappointed.
Then DVD's came out, and I wondered
why PotA wasn't on DVD. But at least it came out in widescreen format on
VHS at that time, so I bought that too, but again I was disappointed,
because I wanted the DVD.
Then, just a year or two later, it finally
came out on DVD, and I felt disappointed again, because (a) it seemed clear
to me that this was a ploy to get me to buy the movie several times,
and (b) it was working.
But good lord, if they come out with a

I look at it this way: I collect "Apes" ,
so even though I have the DVDs I kept the VHSs as collectibles. I even bought
the "Playhouse" VHSs used after I had the DVDs. What about the folks who spent
$75 a pop on the laserdiscs?
I'd rather they come out with a
special edition and grumble about it than not come out with one. And it's worth
it just to have the doc on DVD, which they might not release
again.

Brian,
Let me tell you something.... I'm a movie nut. I've bought movies at the
beginning of VHS that I then had to buy again when they got re-mastered, then
again when they got hi-fi sound, then again when I got into laserdiscs, then
again when they got letterboxed on laserdisc, then again when "Special
Collector's Editions" came out on laserdisc, THEN out with the laserdiscs and
in with the DVDs. Now comes remastered DVDs and Special Collector's Edition
DVDs. It will never end. One movie mogal once said, "Movies are great
because they're a product you can sell and still own." The Studios know
that there are enough film buffs that will keep buying their favorites over
and over -- How do you think they make their money?
So, when a Special Edition of the original PLANET OF THE APES comes out, I'll
buy it, and I expect then I'll have to get a widescreen TV to watch it in the
anamorphic format so the resolution is better.
The when we have something like Hi-Definition DVDs, I expect I'll have to buy
POTA -- and a whole lot of other movies -- again.
I guess it'll all end when I just don't give a damn anymore, or I'm old and
can't afford it, or I'm dead.

Are you kidding?
That book made him that much money? I find that hard to
believe. I wouldn't have thought that many people would have been

Check out Dark Horse's "Apes" site. It's
shockingly elaborate. It also says they've decided to go with a monthly comic
book instead of just the miniseries, starting in September. Forget the 70's,
it's like the early 90's again! Rule the Planet! Bow Your Head! Yeah! (well,

Actually, I was pleased how similar

it's a "reinvention". By the way, Dark Horse is offering "Apes" computer

I also think Eric Greene has bid on ( and has been outbid on) each

But he is a "Film Historian" AND he was in Space Academy. None of us have
such credentials.
I should outbid him.I really
think I would if the shipping wasn't so damn

did it.
And by the way,am I the only

These are questions I've been working on myself recently. I think you
can discount hyper or warp-drives. There would have been no need for
Taylor and crew to go into stasis for the journey if they had such
capabilities, and the highly advanced technology required to make
them feasible propulsion systems wasn't reflected in the sequels.
(The A-bomb, people driving around in fossil-fuel guzzling cars,
etc.) You can also discount chemical rockets because they'd be
depleted long before the ship left our solar system.
What that leaves for interstellar travel is antimatter, fusion plasma
propulsion, and solid core nuclear fusion. Nix the first two for the
same reason above -- out of line with the technology timeline. The
last is the one I'd go with. Nuclear fusion engines are within easy
reach. It just takes some bright spark to figure out how to make a
reactor chamber small enough to fit on a ship the size of Taylor's,
and how to fuel it efficiently for long-duration spaceflight.
Not that it has any bearing, but you might recall that in the tv
series ep 'The Trap', Burke tells Urko that in his time everything
was powered by nuclear energy, even the subway trains. So the nuclear
propulsion idea fits the writing intent of the time anyway.
My guess is the ship had no need of a launch vehicle (unless Dr. Milo
was *very* clever). Probably it was fully maneuverable in or out of
earth's atmosphere, had landing gear for takeoffs and landings, and
its powerful nuclear engines would enable it to reach escape velocity
on its own. /Mez <.html

Hi Jeff,
Sounds like a detailed article you're writing there.
Although I'm not a history buff, that whole Gallipoli thing was pretty
much a big deal, as much as the attack on Pearl Harbour was for America
( I guess? Michael, can you back me up here?). I never saw the movie.
I was at Fox when Rupert bought it. It didn't really effect us day
to day ( other than the creation of the Australian Studio where we later
moved). We just became part of a larger organization. That being News Limited.
Corporately, this had it's benefits as we were able to "synergise" ( is
that even a word) with our "sister" companies to maximize cost effectiveness.
If anything, the bottom line became more important than ever before ( like
any large corporation), and probably still is. Bill Mechanic would probably
never get the chance to go out on a limb with a project like Titanic ever
again, if he was still with the company. Hence, Fox tend to go for "safer
bets" or lower budget films for higher turnover ( teen market films) these
days. This of coarse, is only my observation, generally most people I worked
with were quite content . For me, I'd just been there for too long.

since chimps DNA in 98% compatible, then that would make her a something like

Not that it has any bearing, but you might recall that in the tv

My guess is the ship had no need of a launch vehicle (unless Dr. Milo
was *very* clever). Probably it was fully maneuverable in or out of
earth's atmosphere, had landing gear for takeoffs and landings, and
its powerful nuclear engines would enable it to reach escape velocity
on its own. /Mez
Mez,
I've always wondered something about Taylor's ship that I'd like to hear you
come up with an explanation for -- because I sure can't explain it!
The two large windows in the front of his ship, Mez. You know as well as
I, I assume, that space is not really a vacuum, there's lots of stuff
floating around, dust and such, and traveling at a rate nearing the speed of
light you're going to be hitting that stuff pretty hard. Wouldn't that make
front-facing windows rather problematic?
Actually, I've always considered the science in PLANET OF THE APES to be
rather weak. I believe fast-as-light travel or even anywhere near that speed
to be, with what we now know of physics (not that we won't know more in the
future), an impossibility. The faster you go in space the greater your mass
becomes, and as you approach the speed of light your mass becomes infinite
and therefore requires infinite power to keep you going. Also, it's also
doubtful the human body could survive such a process.
Well, I forget where I'm going with this. I guess I'm trying to say that
Taylor's ship looks rather unconvincing as a near-light-speed craft. But I
hope to get an argument going here about such an opinion.
Also, since in Boulle's novel the main body of Merou's interstellar craft
remains in orbit and a launch is used to land on the planet, then perhaps the
same can be thought of the ship in the film, and then therefore any rockets
below the water would only have had to be powerful enough to get the landing
craft back in orbit to rendezvous with the mother ship.
Or then again maybe not. Thoughts?
-- Rory

Excellent Mez, well thought out. My thoughts are that the ship
wouldn't require a runway (like the shuttles) so probably had some
kind of VTO abilities. I can't see it with wheels but struts and legs
(Like the Nostromo in Alien) might work. Again there's not really
room for any of this in the tiny portion we get to see.
Rory mentioned the need for some "deflector shields" to protect the
windows which is fair comment, perhaps those louvered slats in front
of the windows have something to do with this? We never see an
exterior shot of the ship in space so maybe it's appearance is
slightly different when travelling at light speed.
Anti collision and head lights would be needed for atmospheric flight.
Of course William Creber never intended to "justify" the design. It
just had to look good for a few minutes of screen time. I think he
succeeded 100% <.html

Actually..... This same piece in Widescreen Review that mentions Burton's
APES coming to DVD by the end of 2001 also says that "Star Wars: Episode 1:
The Phantom Menace" will be "an extremely elaborate, two-disc special
edition....." and will include "a sneak peek at 'Episode II.' If all goes
well, you'll have it in your hands by Thanksgiving."
I guess Fox plans to rule the holiday DVD gift-giving season.

Hey Gang,
I received an response from the guy selling these Lawgiver posters.
Here's what he had to say:
Hi Brian, I don't have many "Lawgiver" Posters, though I could
spare a
couple. I guess it depends how many you want and how much you want
to pay.
As a newbie, I'm quite enjoying the Ebay experience... cheers

Yes! Even with two silicate 'pressure panes' beneath a thermal pane,
and traveling at the relatively low speed of 17,500 mph, a shuttle
windshield was cracked when it impacted a paint chip in orbit.
Granted, there's probably a lot more debris churning in earth orbit
than in open space, but all it takes is one tiny particle to ruin
your day.
You could of course posit the same risks for the entire ship.
Shielding is a must, not only to protect against debris impact but
radiation as well. Unless they were using some advanced material,
Taylor's ship didn't look well-shielded.
> Actually, I've always considered the science in PLANET OF THE APES

And how. But back then the average Joe on the street wasn't as up on
scientific principles as we are today. Studios could rewrite the laws
of physics and still produce a highly gratifying movie experience
(and did). Nowadays, sci-fi screenwriters fear us fans. And so they
should. <EG>

Agreed, and based on the movie I'm not convinced Taylor's ship had
have gone lickety split by contemporary standards using a more
efficient propulsion system.

I agree with you, Rory. Right off the bat, the design is dated. As
Star Trek pointed out, even bricks can fly in space. (The Borg ships)
Plus it seems mighty small for all that interstellar travelling
Taylor and crew were doing. I mean, weren't they supposed to be
colonizing a new planet? So like, where were all their provisions??
Or were they supposed to rely completely on whatever the target
planet offered??
"Houston, this is Taylor. There's no hammers, no porta-pottys, not
even so much as a goddamn match on this flying trashcan. You guys are
COLD...."

| Subject: IT WORKS TRY IT!!!/OT |
|
.html TURN $6.00 INTO $6,000!!!!!
IT'S SIMPLE AND IT'S LEGAL!!!!!!!
I found this on a bulletin board and decided to try it a little while
back,
I was browsing through news groups just like you are right now and
came
across a article similar to this saying that you could make thousands
of
dollars within weeks with only an initial investment of $6.00!! So I
thought yeah right. This must be a scam, but like most of us, I was
curious, so I kept reading. Anyway it said that you send one dollar to
each of the six names and addresses stated in the article. You then
place your own name and address on the bottom of the list at number
six
and post the article to at least 200 newsgroups. (there are thousands)
No catch that was it. So after talking to a few people and thinking it
over I decided to give it a try.
What have I got to lose except 6 stamps and $6.00 right? Then I
invested
the measly six dollars. WELL GUESS WHAT!!! Within 7 days, I started
getting money in the mail!!! I was shocked. I thought it was going to
stop but it just kept coming. In my first week I made $25.00. By the
end
of the second week I had $900.00. In the end of the third week I made
$5,000.00!! It's still growing right now. This is now my fourth week
and
I have made a total of just over $38,000.00! and it's still coming in
rapidly. This is certainly worth $6.00 and 6 stamps. I have spent more
than that on the lottery!! Let me tell you how this works and most
importantly why it works. Also make sure that you print a copy of this
article NOW so you can get the information off of it as you need it. I
promise you that if you follow the directions exactly, that you will
start making more money than you possibly thought just by doing
something so easy!! SUGGESTION: READ THIS ENTIRE MESSAGE CAREFULLY
(Print it out or down load it) Follow the simple directions and watch
the money come in! It's easy. It's legal. And your investment is only
$6.00 (plus postage) IMPORTANT: This is not a rip off; it is not
indecent; it is not illegal; and it is virtually no risk - it really
works!!!!! If all of the following instructions are adhered to, you
will
receive extraordinary dividends.
PLEASE NOTE: follow these directions exactly and $50,000 or more can
be
yours in 20 to 60 days..
This program remains successful because of the honesty and integrity
of
the participants. Please continue its success by carefully adhering to
the instructions. You will now become a part of the mail order
business.
In this business your product is not solid and tangible, it's a
service.
You are in the business of developing a mailing list. Many large
corporations are happy to pay big bucks for quality list. However, the
money made from the mailing list is secondary to the income, which is
made from people like you and me asking to be included to that list.
Here are the four steps to success:
STEP 1: Get 6 separate pieces of paper write the following on each
piece
of
paper "PLEASE PUT ME ON YOUR MAILING LIST."
STEP 2: Now get 6 us 1dollar bills and place ONE inside EACH of the
six
pieces of paper so the bill will not be seen through the envelope to
prevent thievery.
STEP 3: Next place one paper in each of the 6 envelopes and seal them.
MAKE SURE THERE ARE ENOUGH STAMPS ON YOUR ENVELOPES. You should now
have
6 sealed envelopes, each with a piece of paper stating the above
phrase
your name and address and a $1.00 bill. What you are doing is creating
a
service. THIS IS ABSOLUTELY LEGAL! You are requesting a legitimate
service and you are paying for it! Like most of us, I was a little
skeptical and a little worried about
the legal aspects of it all. So I checked it out with the U.S. Post
Office (1-800-725-2161) and they confirmed that it is indeed
legal!!!!!
STEP 4: Mail the six envelopes to the following addresses:
#1) Daniela
PO Box 422
Fort Walton Beach, Florida 32549
#2 ) Panagiotis Plevrakis
5454 Cherlane Dr.
Dallas, TX 75206
#3) Camila Kwong
2151 Lapiniere C.P. 44013
Brossard Quebec
J4W 3K2
CANADA
#4) Denise Kerrington
1026 Casa Drive
Clarkston, GA 30021
#5) Karen Sierra
504F Grand Street
apt. F61
New York, NY 10002
#6) Bonnie Doiron
3-48 Wilson Ave
London, Ont CANADA
N6H-1X3
STEP 5: Now take the #1 name off the list that you see above, move the
other
names up (6 becomes 5, 5 becomes 4, etc.) and add YOUR name as number
6
on
the list.
STEP 6: Change anything you need to but try to keep this article as
original as possible. Now post your amended article to at least 200
news
groups. (I think there are 24,000 groups) All you need is 200,but
remember, the more you post, the more money you make! **EVERYBODY
AROUND
THE WORLD CAN DO THIS. BUT REMEMBER TO PUT ENOUGH STAMPS ON YOUR
ENVELOPES!!** This is perfectly legal! If you have any doubts, refer
to
title 18 sec. 1302 & 1341 of the postal lottery laws. Keep a copy of
these steps for your self and whenever you need money, you can use it
again and again. PLEASE REMEMBER that this program remains successful
because of the honesty and integrity of the participants and by
carefully adhering to the directions. Look at it this way, if you are
of
integrity, the program will continue and the money that so many others
have received will come your way. NOTE: You may want to retain every
name and address sent to you, either on a computer or a hard copy and
keep the notes people sent you. This verifies that you are truly
providing a service. (Remember to wrap the $1 bill in the note to
prevent mail theft.) So as each post is downloaded and the directions
carefully followed, six members will be reimbursed for their
participation as a list developer with one dollar each. Your name will
move up the list geometrically so that when your name reaches the #1
spot you will be receiving thousands of dollars in CASH!!!! What an
opportunity for only $6.00 ($1 for each of the six people listed
above)
Send it now, add your own name to the list and you're in business!
--DIRECTIONS-- FOR HOW TO POST TO NEWS GROUPS
STEP 1: You do not need to retype this entire letter to do your own
posting.
Simply put your cursor at the beginning of this letter and drag your
cursor
to the bottom of this document, and select "copy" from the edit menu.
This
will copy the entire letter into the computer's memory.
STEP 2: Open a blank notepad file and place your cursor at the top of
the blank page. From the edit menu select "paste." This will paste the
copy of the letter into notepad so you can add your name to the list.
STEP 3: Save your new notepad file as a .txt file. If you want to do
your postings in
different settings, you'll always have this file to go back to.
STEP 4: Use Netscape andInternet Explorer and try searching for
various
news groups (on-line forums,message boards,chat sites,discussions.)
STEP 5: Visit these message boards and post this article as a new
message by highlighting the text of this letter and selecting "paste"
from the edit menu of your browser. Fill in the subject, this will be
the header that everyone sees as they scroll through the list of
postings in a particular group. Click the post message button. You're
done with the first one! Congratulations.
THAT'S IT! All you have to do now is jump to different news groups and
post away,
after you get the hang of it, it will take 30 seconds for each
newsgroup!
*REMEMBER, THE MORE NEWSGROUPS YOU POST IN (MESSAGE BOARDS ETC) THE
MORE
MONEY
YOU WILL MAKE!!!!! BUT YOU HAVE TO POST A MINIMUM OF 200.That's it!
You
will
begin receiving money from around the world within days! You may
eventually
want to rent a P.O Box due to the large amount of mail you will
receive.If you wish to
stay anonymous, you can invent a name to use as long as the postman
will
deliver it. **JUST MAKE SURE THE ADDRESS IS CORRECT** <.html

'VTO abilities' like the Harrier, yes! Thought of it but couldn't
think what to call it. That would have to be the preferred
landing/takeoff method for an interplanetary ship, considering you
don't know what sort of terrain you're going to be dealing with.

Maybe those slats could close down over the windows? After all, you
don't really need to see where you're going in space. Especially not
if you're going to be snoozing for most of the trip anyway. Tsk,
Taylor forgot to close the blinds. ;)
Someone refresh my memory -- are we told anywhere that the ship is
travelling at lightspeed?

movies) I never considered any of this. Suspension of disbelief is a

of space flight right. It was just a way to get the ANSA astros to POTA. But
it looks cinematic so they went with it. As for the windows, they had to have
them or they'd lose those crazy lights. Is that what stars look like when
your travelling close to the speed of light? That being said, I'd like to
see the Icarus powered by some sort of cold fusion drive. And let's make
those windows transparent titantium. The film was made in '68 and I believe
the ship's chronometer has the Earth year as 1973 at the time of the flight.
If apes can learn to talk in 2,000 years, why not cold fusion & funky metals
in 5? John <.html

Well, if this movie is a big hit believe me
there's going to be a lot of people renting the original flicks. Same as

The other day at work I found out that they're having a booze cruise the
night of 7/27/01. Damn them all to hell!! My plans are to have a few
pre-movie beers, see it, then work it out over post movie beers. Then do it
again Saturday night. Talk about a Lost Weekend. John

.htmlHello all, a few things that Im sure i can get the answers to here, and it
could benefit those in the LA area! I need to know what record label/company
will be handling the "soundtrack". as we all know most movies have one
nowadays, even the worst movies. If i can find out what record label is
distributing the sndtrk, and working in the record buisness, i will be able
to get premiere tickets most likely, and alot of coool promo stuff. the best
scenerio would be for them to not only do a score soundtrack, but a
soundtrack soundtrack, like with the goo goo dolls, fuel, papa roach,
whatever and actually release a single, then I would be in for sure. if it
is just a score soundtrack, there usually isnt that much promo behind it,
but i can still get advance copies, posters, etc. let me know if anyone gets
wind of it. also, for my friends on here in So. Cal. i would certainly hook
you up first as much as i could. If this all falls through and there is not
a label attached to the movie, lets all meet for the premiere anyway??!! are
there any single women out there that watch, love and know about POTA as
much as i do? especially in la! oh sorry, this is not POTA date line.
