Are we still on the hybrid theory? Seems goofy. I'd be more willing
to bet Burton has taken the female apes to a logical extreme. Don't
human women on earth cover their skin with makeup, straighten and
process their hair, shave off unmwated body hair? <.html

Also today on E! coming attractions at 2:30 PM
they may have the trailer this time.
Also on Extra Extra tonight after Saturday night
Live their going to have an interview with Estella Warren...I saw it on friday
but didn't get to record it.
I'm hoping this will be a repeat of friday's
show.
Best,

Yeah, that's her. There's a pic of her (in
costume), Burton and a real chimp in an astronaut outfit on the contents
page of Entertainment Weekly.
Don't you have that yet
Alex?
Matt
Wow! Matt...I see it now.
How the hell did I miss that!?
I just skiped over the contents page and went
straight to the article in the magazine.
Thanks for the heads up Matt.
Boy now I know I'm way too over
worked.
Thanks again.

Maybe, but I really don't think that they would go to all the trouble to make
them look like real apes and then give the females such un-apelike features.
There isn't an ape out there with hair that long. Not to mention eyebrows!
Give me a break. Do you think making themselves look like humans makes them
more attractive to apes?
Besides it isn't a theory. They've said as much. Though the way they change
things on this picture, who knows what they will have when they're done. <.html

Women wear extensions and draw on eyebrows all the time. I haven't
seen one female ape in the footage that DOESN'T look like this.

How about wearing clothes? Not exactly apelike behavior either.

.html Has anyone seen the movie entitled the War Lord? Rory lent me the DVD and it
was interesting to see the first collaboration between Franklin Schaffner and
Charlton Hest (1965). Chuck plays a knight in the 11th century, who, along
with his troops, is guarding a small village against their enemies. The
inhabitants of the village are a simple people, and Chuck falls for a young
virgin who is about to be wed. In order to get what he wants, he uses an old
law that allows the War Lord to have the pleasure of the first night with a
virgin bride (on her wedding night). The next thing they know, they are in
love and tensions rise. The movie is a bit dated at times and actually starts
out a bit slow, but by the second half I was pretty caught up in the action
and battle scenes. The acting is pretty good, a highlight is Maurice Evans as
a priest - he even has a few lines that invoke the spirt of Dr. Zauis
(heresay anyone?). The actor who played Dr. Maximus was also in there
(although I wouldn't have noticed if Rory hadn't pointed it out). Chuck is
his usual over-the-top self, but entertaining. He has the misfortune of
playing an action hero with quite possibly the worst haircut in history (a
Moe Howard look). The babe that plays his love interest (Rosemary Forsyth)
was also good. What else was she in? Richard Boone as Chuck's loyal sidekick
and Guy Stockwell as his devious brother also turned in worthwhile
performances.
The direction of Schaffner was pretty good, but he made tremendous progress
between that film and POTA. Some of the shots were kind of foggy and the
painted backgrounds were a bit too obvious at certain points, but the action
scenes were cool.
If anyone else is interested in checking out this POTA-related flick, I
recommend it.

Helena Bonham Carter herself has said in print Ari is 80% human and 20% ape.
That doesn't mean she knows anything either. They told her she'd be a
Princess when she signed on. Like I said, they sorta winged this thing on

Oldman in that politico flick. <.html

Linda seems to be a seeker. She was into the guru, now she's doing horoscopes.

Alright,
here's pretty much all I know. It's from the book "The Fox That Got
Away" by Stephen M. Silverman about how the Zanucks lost 20th Century-Fox
in the early Seventies.
It's from page 303:
"After five
years, the marriage between Richard Zanuck and Linda Harrison dissolved.
In 1974 she sought a divorce on the grounds of irreconcilable
differences. Two months after filing. Harrison asked the court
for an order restraining Dick Zanuck from contacting her, following an
incident in which she claimed he had violently beaten both her and her
spiritual adviser, a 65-year-old man.
"He struck me, sat on top of
me, and after restraining me with his legs and arms he repeatedly and
viciously struck my face with his forearms in karate fashion, causing me
extreme pain and suffering," her affidavit stated.
The elderly
companion, whom Harrison identified as her 'minister and spiritual
advisor,' was Vincentii Turriziani of the Risen Christ Foundation of
Vincentii Turriziani. Harrison claimed that her husband punched and
kicked Turriziani, smashed a statue, and struck the spititual advisor on
the head with it.
"He pulled several paintings from the wall,
breaking the glass of some of them and also deliberately kicking his foot
through a painting entitled 'The Risen Christ,' which he knew had a
special religious significance," she said.
Harrison said that starting
in 1972 the marriage had become 'difficult' due to Zanuck's 'extremely
violent disposition.' Harrison had sought spiritual guidance from
Turriziani in an effort to save the union."
Well, that's her side of
the story anyway. I think Harrison's 'spiritual advisor' ended up
with most of the $3 million divorce settlement she got from Zanuck, AND
I've been told she slept with this guy.
Anything else you want to

Hey I forgot about that. Burke's
romance with the blind chimp. Probably Burton's favorite episode. Also, I
happened to watch one episode of the cartoon, the one where they meet Brent. His
ship is sticking up out of the desert just like in Burton's flick. Could it be
the TV stuff is what Burton's drawing from? By the way , that's also the episode
Eric Greene says Urko looks like Nixon (I think "Trail to the
Unknown"). - - - Jeff

2nd civilian to go to the space station (the first guy paid the Russians $200

A while back Rory was carping about the new logo having "of the" side by
side instead of horizontal like the original "Planet of the Apes". Well, I
noticed the 30th Anniversary logo, such as on the DVDs , is like the movie

Classic from the New. It's just Fox's new millenium way of doing it.

what Rory is going to see tonight). I've never seen any of these new"Mummy"s
because I thought the FX looked cheesy and I didn't like the tone of the ads
(bad jokes). It's not getting good reviews but the first movie out of the
summer gate usually does well.
My newspaper today points out that only "Pearl Harbor" and "Apes" have
their respective weekends to themselves, with no big movie opening up
against them, usually a sign of respect from the other studios. Well, I
guess the Mummy does too, but that's because it came out so damn early.

Wow! I'm glad I didn't buy the first DVD. This goes to show everyone that
the studios just love to sell you the same movies over and over and over --
just tack on a few extras and the fans just HAVE to have it. They've done
the same with "Tora! Tora! Tora!" -- just came out on DVD like last year, now

Anyway, I've got to go see the "Mummy Returns" now. . . . . I guess the DVD

There was an article in the L.A.
Times magazine a few months ago about DVDs. They cost the same to make as
videotapes, about $2, and they sell them to stores for about $18. It's a pure
profit racket and the studios admit it. Plus the "talent", such as the stars
with a big piece of the movie, don't collect as much from video. Right now DVD
is the new toy and studios are cashing in.
Another "Jurassic Park" DVD
is coming out soon, that was just released. I can't imagine what else they could
put on that.

I spoke with FOX Interactive last month. They told me that FOX
is dissolving it's Interactive distribution department so they were unsure
what the impact was going to be on the release of new games. The
Apemania troupe has done voice overs and motion capture work for the game.
We also convinced FOX to use Booth Colman for the Zaius voice overs.
Silly folks never bothered to see if any of the original actors would be
interested in being part of the project.
The APEMANIA troupe has also been promoting the game at the E3 (Electronics
Entertainment Expo) shows for the past several years. <http://www.apemania.com/albums/e3.htm>
Fox said that they are not sure if they will even be at E3 this year unless
they pick up some independent distributors for their interactive products.
Personally, I'm wondering if they aren't going to shelve the
game all together, eventhough it's finished. I'm not sure if they've
incorporated elements from the new film or not, but I do know there
were discussions about that way back in the beginning.
I do know that there are Mandrill and Baboon type characters in the
game.
I'll keep the group posted as I find out more.

Last I heard, they are touching up
the T3 script and will film this year after the strike - - which has presumably
been averted. Release next summer. James Cameron isn't involved. Sir Ah-nuld
stars with Edward Furlong (no Linda Hamilton). The villian is a female
terminator and the director is the guy who did that submarine flick "U-57" - -
whatever it was.
I just downloaded the "Jurassic Park
3 " trailer. Looks pretty hoaky. The raptors are genetically altered and have
intelligence - - - what's next, apes on horses? It's the same jungle setting,
yawn. I thought the best part of JP2 was when they were back in civilization
(remember the 76 ball rolling?). They should have set this one here for humor,
etc. Dinosaurs are old hat. Julia Roberts will kill it and then both will bow
their heads on July 27.

I just saw this trailer this afternoon before "The Mummy Returns" -- which I
thought was pretty entertaining, very fast moving, good -- and I think
"Jurassic Park III" will be good, too, and do very well, at least from what I
saw of the trailer it looked like they're going for that
'jolt-every-five-minutes' kind of thing. As far as genetically created
intelligence in animals goes. . . . there was a complaint that Roger Ebert
had of the 'smart' sharks in "Deep Blue Sea" (or whatever that Renny Harlin
flick was called) -- just because they got brains doesn't mean they have
experience -- so how do they 'know' what to do in situations?

I haven't seen either "Mummy" but I
heard "Returns" isn't that good except visually (and some of it isn't even
that, like the Rock turning into a scorpion). "Jurassic Park3 " looks like it
has the usual great fx but it's the same old same old. "Jurassic 2" had one of
the biggest openings ever, if not the biggest, and then dropped off. The
audience was obviously disappointed. That might hurt attendence this time
out.
I finally downloaded the "Pearl
Harbor" trailer. That's the best trailer I've seen but it looks like the telling
will be one - dimensional, par for the course for Bay. Glad he didn't do
"Apes".

thought the best part of JP2 was when they were back in civilization
(remember the 76 ball rolling?). They should have set this one here for
humor, etc. Dinosaurs are old hat. Julia Roberts will kill it and then
both will bow their heads on July 27.

I just saw this trailer
this afternoon before "The Mummy Returns" -- which I thought was pretty
entertaining, very fast moving, good -- and I think "Jurassic Park III"
will be good, too, and do very well, at least from what I saw of the
trailer it looked like they're going for that 'jolt-every-five-minutes'
kind of thing. As far as genetically created intelligence in animals
goes. . . . there was a complaint that Roger Ebert had of the 'smart'
sharks in "Deep Blue Sea" (or whatever that Renny Harlin flick was called)
-- just because they got brains doesn't mean they have experience -- so
how do they 'know' what to do in situations?
