Sure beats getting riped off on e-bay.

Yes,I wrote my letter and told them how peeved I am at them for doing that.I
told them they are losing money because fans are being forced to buy inferior
bootlegs even though they really would like an official release from Fox.I
told them to look at Paramount and what they did for the Star Trek series on
dvd and all the money they are making from it,and that they (Fox) could do
the same with Planet of the Apes.I also mentioned that it isn't fair that the
Australian market gets Apes on dvd and we don't.I also said that there are
many fans that feel this way,so I think you all should write them (or call
them) and prove to them that you also want the series on dvd/home video. This
is one thing I think all members of the group should get behind and support.<.html

I think Heston and Linda are enough
cameos for this film. Natalie would be good for a sequel cameo since she did the
sequels. But a phone call would be
nice. - - - - Jeff

I
think probably it has a lot more to do with pulling power and
credibility. In the good old days there were people who knew the name
"Pierre Boulle" and might have wanted to see a movie based on one of his
novels (also some "Bridge On the River Kwai audience may have been interested
- and possibly disappointed!!!). There was also the credibility factor -
to say it is based on a story by a credible author would tend to give it more
weight.
But
the modern target audience (young I would say, based on the age of the lead
actors!) would say "Pierre Who? Bridge On the WHAT?" So I doubt
there will be more thana fine print mention.
However Zanuck has no excuse. His memory may be failing but you
would think he might have involved Natalie - I would have thought a cameo
might have been appropriate too for such a key player in the Apes
phenomenon.
Michael
Yes, I noticed that. The trailer
also doesn't mention Boulle, funny since Burton's movie seems to be closer to
the book than the original was (they even gave Boulle credit on the TV
series!). I don't know, has enough time passed that they don't have to give
credit? What are the rights after an author dies?
I'm very angry that no one at Fox
or even Zanuck bothered to call Natalie Trundy and say, "Hey, we're continuing
your husband's life's work, should make a tidy profit. How you been?" Even
after Zanuck left Fox he still went over to the Jacobs' for ping-pong matches.
It was a ritual. Natalie showed me some pictures. Walter Matheu would go, Eric
braeden. And one set of pictures shows Zanuck arriving in a T-shirt , I think
it had a logo for a Warner Bros. movie on it (after he got booted out of Fox,
he worked at Warners for about a year. Anyway, after he arrives, Zanuck strips
off the shirt and has an "Escape from the POTA" shirt on underneath. He has a
conspiratorial smile on his face. Well, where's his loyalty now? All I know is
they BETTER invite Natalie to the premiere or Fox will hear from
me.

P.S.: Sorry about that, just letting off
a little steam.

I like the design and look of the new items. You could imagine the
same "look" applied to classic ape images. Best, KEN
I saw the second new POTA movie poster at
the theater on Saturday, the one with the gorilla army on it. At
the bottom is the film's credits and NOWHERE -- NOWHERE!! -- is Pierre
Boulle mentioned. This kind of pisses me off. I hope he gets
a mention in the movie's credit roll.

When I was in a store I looked at the
"Dolittle" DVD. It's the long version, 151 minutes. So if a new edition comes
out, unless it has a lot of extras, don't bother.

The Fox store site (http://www.foxstore.com/ ) says it's the
Jacobs version that's being rereleased ("Doctor Dolittle", not "Dr.
Dolittle"). Both are already available, maybe they're just doing a big
push for both of them (Amazon doesn't say June 5 for the Murphy one,
just "coming soon"). They say the new DVD comes in at 151m. and a 144m.
version also exists. How long is the one on your DVD, Rory?

it together (also understandable considering the schedule).

P.S.: I know an insider myself who said some of the actors are shooting a

I
think probably it has a lot more to do with pulling power and credibility.
In the good old days there were people who knew the name "Pierre Boulle"
and might have wanted to see a movie based on one of his novels (also some
"Bridge On the River Kwai audience may have been interested - and possibly
disappointed!!!). There was also the credibility factor - to say
it is based on a story by a credible author would tend to give it more
weight.But
the modern target audience (young I would say, based on the age of the
lead actors!) would say "Pierre Who? Bridge On the WHAT?" So
I doubt there will be more thana fine print mention. However
Zanuck has no excuse. His memory may be failing but you would think
he might have involved Natalie - I would have thought a cameo might have
been appropriate too for such a key player in the Apes phenomenon.Michael
Yes, I noticed that. The trailer
also doesn't mention Boulle, funny since Burton's movie seems to be closer
to the book than the original was (they even gave Boulle credit on the
TV series!). I don't know, has enough time passed that they don't have
to give credit? What are the rights after an author dies? I'm
very angry that no one at Fox or even Zanuck bothered to call Natalie Trundy
and say, "Hey, we're continuing your husband's life's work, should make
a tidy profit. How you been?" Even after Zanuck left Fox he still went
over to the Jacobs' for ping-pong matches. It was a ritual. Natalie showed
me some pictures. Walter Matheu would go, Eric braeden. And one set of
pictures shows Zanuck arriving in a T-shirt , I think it had a logo for
a Warner Bros. movie on it (after he got booted out of Fox, he worked at
Warners for about a year. Anyway, after he arrives, Zanuck strips off the
shirt and has an "Escape from the POTA" shirt on underneath. He has a conspiratorial
smile on his face. Well, where's his loyalty now? All I know is they BETTER
invite Natalie to the premiere or Fox will hear from me.

Damn it all to hell!!!! I'm confused! My DVD says it's 144 minutes. I've
only watched it once, but I know it doesn't have on it this Harrison (that's
Rex, not Linda) song that was cut. It also doesn't begin the way I believe
the 151 minute version begins, with Doctor Dolittle visiting a sick crocodile

This time I knew what to expect and just went along for the ride. It was like a

My 6 year old son LOVED it ( only got scared like twice). I was concerned that
it would be too violent for him but although it had lots of shooting, there was
little or no blood. Once again, like a cartoon.

Video is a little different. The
"Lost in Space" movie was a flop but they're coming out with those on DVD. Video
and DVD is really cheap. I read it costs the studios $2 to make a DVD and they
sell it to store for $18 (the ones that cost $25). Making movies is expensive.
Putting movies on DVD that are already made isn't. I'm not sure why they
cancelled the TV DVDs. The article about why they delayed the video game was
interesting (they didn't want to confuse the youngin's who like the new one).

Hey
everyone got some bad news , I called jane at fox today and she said the
big guys in charge sent her a email saying that the 1974 series would not
happen.I asked why the change no reason was givin. We need to find out who
is in charge. I was so pissed they told us 4 dvds 5 vhs tapes! WHY would
they cancel now.Lets call and write again to fox and why they are letting
us down without any explanation .
BRYAN
H
I think the biggest problem with all of
this is the fact that Fox maybe thinking that they may endup loosing in this
DVD venture than gaining. If the demand is not all that great then the bottom
line is that FOX will loose money.
And while many feel that that is not a
good enough reason, the truth is that if Fox looses, we all loose. Because
they will then stop production on any further ape
projects.
I say let the remake come out and if
it's a big hit then no doubt original ape projects will follow. And If it
fails, we can all kiss planet of the apes goodbye. Because no studio in their
right mind will ever loose money on that venture again.
That's why I say: Support Tim
Burton's remake, because whether you want to believe it or not, by
not supporting such a film, we all might as well get use to the idea that
no more ape products will ever be released by FOX if this remake
fails.
Not that we hold the fate of Tim Burton's
film in our hands but not supporting it sure as hell dosen't help the original
POTA and it's future. For I have said before, remakes and sequals
only brings back originals to popular status.
Hey, but what the hell, what do I know
right?
First FOX interactive game, and now the
T.V. Series DVD set.
I think we should all get used to the
idea of calling Tim Burton The Planet of the Apes SAVIOUR...whether anyone
wants to accept that reality or not that's thier own affair. But it is the
truth.

together!). One of the gorillas says, "The faces!" Then a card comes up
that says "No picture of "Beneath the POTA" will be released until after
the film is released".
Odd, since they used a mutant on the posters and the advertising, but who
cares? Ancient history.
Well, here in the east "The X-Files" has just started. Guess we'll find out
now if Scully has an alien baby. I'll let you know if they show another POTA
commercial.
Also, don't forget to check out that show on E! tonight about the summer
films.

Well, I think that NATO thing predates the
poster. I'm still not sure what they were for, I guess a way of advertising them
back then. I guess it was to drum up interest for theatre
owners.

I don't get
this, but then I've never watched more than 10 seconds of "Survivor," and
I don't get it's popularity at all. I consider the people from
"Survivor" who are now celebrities the 'unfamous.' Remember how Dracula
was dead, but not dead? He was the 'undead'? Well, these
people are famous, but not famous. They are the 'unfamous.'
Anyway, my two favorite films are "Planet of the Apes" and "2001: A
Space Odyssey." Does that get me kicked off anything?

No, they don't. If they did they would have shot Apes as written. The only
reason they brought those two guys in for rewrites was the expense. It was
cheaper! No one argued that it was redone because it wasn't any good. It
was too expensive to shoot. I'm not saying they didn't have the money. They
were just too cheap to spend it. Hopefully this is a prequel, and if it does

I
think probably it has a lot more to do with pulling power and credibility.
I'm very angry
that no one at Fox or even Zanuck bothered to call Natalie Trundy and say,
"Hey, we're continuing your husband's life's work, should make a tidy profit.
How you been?" Even after Zanuck left Fox he still went over to the Jacobs'
for ping-pong matches. It was a ritual. Natalie showed me some pictures.
Walter Matheu would go, Eric braeden. And one set of pictures shows Zanuck
arriving in a T-shirt , I think it had a logo for a Warner Bros. movie
on it (after he got booted out of Fox, he worked at Warners for about a
year. Anyway, after he arrives, Zanuck strips off the shirt and has an
"Escape from the POTA" shirt on underneath. He has a conspiratorial smile
on his face. Well, where's his loyalty now? All I know is they BETTER invite
Natalie to the premiere or Fox will hear from me.

For the record: Natalie was the subject of an article in the June 24 - 30
1961 issue of TV Guide, at which time she had appeared in 150 TV
productions. This was before she and Jacobs were an item. They had met on
the set of "The Monte Carlo Story" (Arthur was the publicist for the star,
Marlene Dietrich, Natalie was the co-star- - - she even sings). She did
movies, plays, etc. etc. Here's a bit of trivia: in the Jimmy Stewart movie
"Mr. Hobbs Takes a Vacation" , she is the sister of Lili Gentle, who was
Richard Zanuck's first wife (Linda Harrison was his second, Lili Fini was
his third and current). Anyway, when Arthur and Natalie got married in the
late '60's, Arthur didn't want her to work, be a wife and a prospective
mother. It was Paul Dehn who suggested her for "Beneath" and Arthur was
against it. Afterwards, he was more accomodating and when they needed a new
she-ape to replace Kim Hunter (yes, LordT, THAT Kim Hunter)for "Conquest" it
was Arthur's suggestion (Natalie wasn't crazy about the makeup). Anyway,
Natalie's last movie was also Arthur's, "Huckleberry Finn", she did one
"Quincy" and that was that. Her inheritance allowed her to help Mother
Teresa and other adventures, usually in India. The common denominator is her
Catholic faith and her medical training.
Currently her work is on DVD in the "Apes" films and "Twilight Zone" #24
(and the voice of the parrot in "Doctor Dolittle").

.html"Scream 2"? I think they got their summers confused.
I assume everyone has checked out the newly decked out website. No doubt,
Fox expects this to be big. That's something they can keep updating even
after the movie comes out, to help promote merchandise and the DVD and
sequels. They have good reason to keep the fans happy with that. Unlike
"Pearl Harbor", which has an impressive website too, but without "Apes"'s
potential. I doubt they will do a sequel, and can't really corner the
market. They can't really copyright Pearl Harbor, it's a historic event.
Anybody can write a book about it and capitalize. Besides, too much
merchandise would look tacky. They can't even have a McDonald's tie-in.
What's interesting is how much the summer slate looks like Fox's late '60's
schedule. Of course, there's "Planet of the Apes" and "Dr. Dolittle 2", but
also "Pearl Harbor" is reminiscent of 1970's "Tora! Tora! Tora!", which is
also set during the Pearl Harbor attack. The two are being compared in the
articles I've read. And then there's "Moulin Rouge", which harks back to the
splashy musicals Fox made in the '60's (and which put Richard Zanuck in the
ejection seat). Personally, I hope it brings back musicals.
One last thing: someone here mentioned a long time ago that Mark Wahlberg
was the first choice for "Titanic" but couldn't do it. What is the source
for that? I think that's an interesting factoid, considering when it was
first anounced in the trades they wanted a young person to star in "Apes" it
was said they'd need someone like Leonardo DiCaprio (and the character was
named Leo, probably coined around the time of "Titanic").

What do you think of some of the things that Eric Greene wrote about in his
book concerning "Planet of the Apes" as an ethnic slur likening
African-Americans to apes, or that POTA is used as a "term of contempt at
every KKK rally," and that POTA "has become a favorite 'cult' film among
skinheads"?
I don't know how true this -- I'm not a skinhead and don't go to KKK rallies
-- but I think it stinks! When I was a kid, back when there was only
PLANET, I never would have thought of such a thing. Although I've been able
to laugh at it from time to time (and even Boulle flirted with it in the
book), actually I hate it to think of POTA in that way -- and in fact I
rarely do. Some Black rappers have used it themselves, and Spike Lee had a
POTA reference in "Do the Right Thing," but I could live without it.
Remember in "Conquest" when Caesar says to MacDonald, "You above everyone

I think Eric backs it up. He shows
rappers naming their albums after "Apes" and a picture of skinheads with a sign
incorporating it. But he has a point that "ape" and "monkey" are sometimes used
as racial slurs.
I've heard some African-Americans
have trouble with the possibility that their plight is represented by
apes. It's the same argument as the romance in the new "Apes". "Star Trek"
is free to allegorize anything they want (remember Frank Gorshin as the half
white-half black alien?) but bring creatures that actually exist into the
picture and everybody gets offended. It's OK for black comedians to use racial
stereotypes for comedy, but when it's done dramatically to make some points
that's criticized.
People are getting way too
sensitive. The world didn't go through what it went through last century so we
could tip-toe through a movie about "Pearl Harbor" and pretend they didn't even
use the word "Jap".
Eric doesn't say "Apes" is
definitively about the "black experience". He mentions if he grew up in Ireland
he could draw different conclusions. If you boil it down, persecution is the
same everywhere, whether black, Jew, gay, whatever. It's the basic human need to
feel superior, to have a scapegoat, to have someone else do all the work
(slaves, maids, etc.). Let's stop being so sensitive and listen to what these
stories are saying.
What was the
question?

Capra Jr. said blacks were cheering the apes.

I read it costs the studios $2 to make a DVD and
they sell it to store for $18 (the ones that cost $25). Making movies is
expensive. Putting movies on DVD that are already made isn't.
I would have to disagree with that
Jeff.
While DVDs may cost $2.00 a disc you still
have to pay DVD programers to put the package together. And programers are not
cheap.
And once you have payed thousands to
prepare the DVD package, you then have to continue to pay for prep, packaging
and shipping on a daily basis.
The price comes out cheap compared to the
retail price we pay but if little to non are sold. They will loose money. In the
case of lost in space, yeah the movie sucked but let be real about it. More
people will buy a recent sucky movie than a T.V. program that came out over 20
years ago.

TANSTAAFL is the quarterly fanzine of the Ann Arbor Science Fiction
Association. Please feel free to pass this along. ~ ed.
PLANET OF THE MEN: Editorial
No doubt, this spring, you've heard the media machine cranking up the
volume on Tim Burton's latest effort, a new take on Pierre Boulle's
PLANET OF THE APES. Aside from the monkey-love controversy, and the
questions over whether this film will embrace the novel accurately,
and aside even from the mad rush online to download the latest
trailer, I'd like to come at this from a different perspective. One
that may tax my position as the new editor here, to the hilt. You
voted me in. Humor me.
STAR TREK IV (The Voyage Home), when released in 1986, received
critical acclaim - and ridicule - as an eco-statement that portrayed
a crucial period in environmental history. While fans have scoffed at
the blatant tree-hugging nature of Trek's aging cast, who dashed
across time and space to save a couple of whales, the consciousness
of the theater-going public was enhanced, in a good way. Attention
was turned to a nasty topic - whaling - with a bright promise for
whalekind: that something can be done to save us from a world doomed
without them. Yes, the sappy plot turned away diehard Trekkies, but
opened the eyes of millions.
Years later we are replacing our cute, furry, or otherwise loveable
costars - species by species - with computer-generated models, and
that's not limited to animals; PEARL HARBOR couldn't have been filmed
without more than the fifteen or so surviving WWII aircraft in flying
condition today. JURASSIC PARK speaks for itself. THE SOPRANOS
brought back the dead. Don't even mention JUMANJI or Disney's TARZAN.
But now, Science Fiction turns back to Boulle, and his novel MONKEY
PLANET, which was more or less faithlessly butchered into a movie in
1968. Burton's latest revision, a multi-million-dollar epic, puts
legs on the old franchise and is due in theaters perhaps as you read
this. Before you go out and see it, however, I'd like to temper your
appetite a bit and ask you to go do something for me.
Please go to your computer and get online. Once you're there, pick
any search engine and type in this term:
BUSHMEAT.
Press Enter.
There. That was easy, wasn't it? Now I don't need to ramble on about
stuff you can read at your own leisure, and I can keep talking about
Science fiction and fandom, and movie budgets and party schedules...
I don't have to talk at all about how Africa's logging industries
will in fact extinctify several primate species - aside from
miniscule zoological stocks - within ten years as a profitable
sideline to logging itself. Or that the Congo's quest for high-tech
minerals brings back a steady stream of supplemental income for
prospectors in the form of tons of carcasses per week strapped to the
backs of trucks. Or how infants are rounded up, caged next to their
mothers' corpses, and sold for pets in some village downstream. Or
how some areas of Africa, where the likes of Dian Fossey and Jane
Goodall were once surrounded by gentle examples of pre-human society
that thrived in the bush, are home now to no animals bigger than a
squirrel.
Except, of course, for man.
Oh, dear. I think I may have tarried too long. Suffice it to say that
several mutiples of your average nature conservatory's annual
overhead go into making and selling movies like PLANET OF THE APES,
and you might just yet bow to that wave of hype and go see it. By all
means enjoy the hell out of it but please, try to remember the plight
of the real McCoy - the great apes in the here-and-now.
Boulle predicted that man would devolve, in his original novel. The
decline of man sparked resurgence of a segment of our evolutionary
family - key to our understanding of threats like Ebola, HIV, and
ourselves - that is being wiped from the planet right now. JURASSIC
PARK notwithstanding, it's still a hard road back from extinction at
the moment.
What can fandom do? Good question. This isn't like gas prices, where
we can quit driving for a day and freak out a petrol company. Boycott
the movie? I wouldn't be so presumptuous, but what would stop me,
unless I knew that a dime of proceeds earmarked for some cause of
relief would ever be used there, no matter what the execs in
Hollywood may say. YMMV.
What's the answer?
Simple. I've done it already. I've made the connection. Household
word meets undervalued issue.
Now a group of you cannot set foot in the theater and watch Markie
Mark do the funky bunch without the word 'bushmeat' ringing in your
ears. Some of you will dismiss it as tinnitus, and drown it out with
the sound of munching popcorn and maybe some of that Danny Elfman
music.
Some of you won't. And the few of those who won't, might just know
your congressman's mailing address.
Yet others of you will look at the seven fifty in your hand as you
get to the box office and realize that poachers on the other side of
the world charge as much for an entire family of gorillas,
slaughtered for the exotic food market. 'Planet of the Apes' will
take on new meaning. My work is done.
Are you guilty? Nah. But what can you do?
You're a human. You're smart. Search the web, and read up. Think of
something, then do it. They are running out of time. For X's sake,
gas is still cheaper than rice, pound for pound. Leave it alone and
do something important.
Hey, in STAR TREK IV, we got a happy ending. I just hope time travel
isn't the only solution, because that glorious plot resolution weapon
is not in hand yet. Let's not count on it, either. We evolved
foresight instead. Let's use it and say we tried.

I haven't heard anything about a sequel to "Lost in Space." I think it's
pretty generally thought that that film was a turkey. It failed to capture
the mood or silliness of the original, and was instead just boring -- a big
nothing. The fans of the original hated it. Any movie that cost $80 million
and only makes $90 million is pretty much a failure in modern Hollywood.
Have you heard that the guy who produced the POTA documentary, Kevin Burns,
has acquired the rights to the series and is working on getting it released
to DVD (He might be the one to get the POTA TV series on DVD as well.), and
wants to start a new "Lost in Space" TV show? It won't have anything to do
with the movie. (Source of this info: Cinescape March/April issue -- the one
with the new POTA on the cover)<.html

.html .htmlOkay, how about this for a topic: What are your favorite POTA moments? What
are the scenes, or even lines from the films or TV show that you just can't
wait to see or hear again?
I'll start with these:
In PLANET: The crash landing, the first appearence of the gorillas on
horseback, "Get your stinking paws off of me....," "You cut up his brain, you
bloody baboon," the Statue of Liberty.
BENEATH: the Ursus' speech, Zaius saying, "Now enough of this nonsense," the
subway station, the mutants 'revealing' themselves.
ESCAPE: The apes taking off their helmets (and Jerry Goldsmith's main title
music), Hasslein's expression when he hears Cornelius' "Only when she lets
me." joke, Zira under the sodium pentothal, Baby Milo's first words.
CONQUEST: Caesar washing his hands, the apes coming over the bridge to face
the police, the torch cutting through the door and its busting in, "Tonight
we have seen the birth of the planet of the apes!"
BATTLE: The end credit roll (NO! Just kidding!). The shot of the destroyed
city (better than anything in BENEATH).
The TV show: It's been too long since I've seen it to say, BUT what about
the rest of you?

.html Here's my favorite moments (off the top of my head):
PLANET: The astronaut's opening trek across the Foribidden Zone (even after
seeing the film so many times, I love the build up that these guys are in for
the surprise of their lives)
The first shots of the gorillas on horseback.
Any scene with Nova looking hot (OK, that's all of her scenes)
"Take your stinking paws off me you damn dirty ape!"
"It's a madhouse!"
Landon's fate.
Dr. Zaius and Taylor's conversation in Zaius' office.
"I didn't know your kind was monogomous" - "On this planet it's easy"
"I'm pretty handy with this" (future NRA Prez in action)
The final shot.
BENEATH:
Mmmmmm......Nova (Homer Simpson voice)
Ursus' speech.
The mutant reveal (just because it scared the $hit out of me when I was
little)
ESCAPE:
The opening scenes (I love that Goldsmith track too!)
"Because I loathe bananas!"
Bill Bonds (just because I grew up watching him here on the local Detroit
news broadcasts)
The final showdown.
Baby Milo speaks.
CONQUEST:
The opening credits (I like that music too. It does a good job setting up the
film)
Caesar chooses his name.
"The birth of the Planet of the Apes" (it blew my mind when I saw it as a kid)
BATTLE:
"They just joined the human race" (the best line in the film).
That's all for now. Maybe I will list my least favorite moments next....

| Subject: Eric Greene Book |
|
.html I finished the Eric Greene book last week, but haven't gotten around to
posting my thoughts about it until now.
Overall it was well written, but seemed a bit wordy. My favorite parts were
the behind the scenes stuff and the info about the unused script ideas. I
felt that most of the book was bogged down by the racial and political
discussion. This is not bad because that was the point of the book in the
first place, it's just not my cup of tea. I think it is a valid subject
matter, but not what I would want to read for pleasure in my limited spare
time.
Greene makes some decent points, but many times seems to be grasping for a
racial meaning that's not really there. I wish I had written them all down as
I was reading the book, but an example is the designs of the huts in BATTLE.
Greene seems to think that this symbolizes Vietnam. My personal opinion is
that this is what they had to end up with in the film because the budget was
so small and they couldn't afford a more elaborate set. Same thing with the
school bus in BATTLE. I don't think it had anything to do with being a
metaphor for Rosa Parks and bus segregation. I just think that there happened
to be a bus on the studio lot and they decided to use it because it was
available (or something like that). There are many more things like this
(some of which were just discussed on this list a few days ago).
Overall, I think the book was OK. Every APES fan should pick it up for the
rare photos and the sheer fact that there aren't many books out there like
this dedicated to the APES phenomenon is such detail. It was OK to read once.
I probably won't read it again all the way through, but I will browse it from
time to time.

John has paralysis on the right side of his body because of his stroke.
He is right handed. He struggles to sign auto graphs with his left
hand. I'm not sure if his wife answers all the mail he gets, but
I do know that they enjoy every bit of it that they get.
When we first visited John a few weeks after we threw his 75th B-day
party, his room at the motion picture hospital/home was pretty barren.
Not these days, thanx to Scott's video and numerous magazine articles about
the big guy, the place is a shrine of fan letters and gifts from all over
the world. It's nice to see. Heck, some fan in Europe even
sculpted a beautiful statuette of Chambers doing Kim Hunter's make-up in
an entire make-up room setting. Weighs a ton!
As far as writing to the Chambers, putting a sase in with any correspondence
is a good idea.
Regardless, they'll enjoy anything that comes their way.

Hey Matt,
You want the August 18th, 1967 issue. Supermodel Verushka (the
Elle McPherson of her day) is on the cover. (see attached)
I can remember the first time I saw this magazine. I was in
high school and about to get my driver's license. I went to the public
library to go through all the old life magazines to find articles about
the 1967 and 68 Mercury Cougar (my dream car). I nearly pooped my
pants when I saw the Planet of the Apes article. Awesome!
Ebay has LIFE magazine dealers all over the place. Just contact
any one of them and I'm sure you'll find one. Either that or visit
your local used book store or do a used book source search on the net.
