I don't know how it's going out or anything about
it. All I know is that I opened it from someone I work with and the damn thing
was sent to everyone in my address book, and from there I don't have a clue. If
it was intentional, i wouldn't have sent the second one warning everybody and I
surely wouldn't have signed it.

Not intentional?
First you send it to the e-group, THEN you send
it to me.
That's being unintentioanl TWICE.
I'm I missing something?

No problem Lewis.
It's just that I've been attack before. Three time already.

Never the less I'm flattered by the attention.

.htmlHere's another contest to go to the "Apes" premiere (the first one is at
www.darkhorse.com for those who haven't entered). It's from a newspaper here
in Los Angeles called "New Times" but the contest is open to all U.S.
residents (except Rhode Island and Puerto Rico). Go to www.newtimesla.com .
If you win, perhaps you'll consider taking Natalie Trundy? Good luck!

.html Right, I think everyone has listed all my favourite moments from the films,
so I'm going to try to come up with moments for each film other than the
obvious ones that have been mentioned by everyone.
So, these have probably already been mentioned, but I would list:
PLANET: Zaius screwing up the paper plane.
BENEATH: Zaius smashing the mutant busts; Brent wandering through the
subway. The ending.
ESCAPE: Zira announcing her pregnancy; the ending (and the epilogue).
CONQUEST: Every scene involving the nasty police force. Introduction to Ape
Management. "The birth of the planet of the apes!"
BATTLE: The opening, with the Lawgiver. The opening titles with Aldo. The
city.

Hey, we've been doing pretty well up until now without a remake! A remake
flop might dent Fox's interest in merchandising, but maybe then others would
be able to pick up licencing rights for cheaper!

There is actually a music shop near me that has an interesting policy to
encourage people to try new artists - if you buy a CD and you think it's

Here's another contest to go to the "Apes" premiere
(the first one is at www.darkhorse.com for those who haven't entered). It's
from a newspaper here in Los Angeles called "New Times" but the contest is
open to all U.S. residents (except Rhode Island and Puerto Rico). Go to
www.newtimesla.com . If you win, perhaps you'll consider taking Natalie
Trundy? Good

He was amazing in that movie and deserved a Best Actor Oscar. He was also
quite good in "Three Kings" and "The Perfect Storm." Yes, he does seem a bit
young, but in all of these parts he has proven his acting chops and the
ability to portray a "fish out of water" or someone who is in over their

I have the Nova cover. It's got that plastic/laminated type finish (no jokes
about the purpose of this please) which possibly decreases its "value" but I
love it, as it has kept the cover pretty much free from wear. Nice.
And I really enjoyed the novel, too.

My main memory of Escape is unfortunately thinking it was a bit of an
anti-climax. It was the last one I saw, and it just didn't live up to the
others in my book. I think it was probably something to do with the 70s
setting, and the fact that very few apes were actually involved. The second
half of the film I love, the first half isn't quite as good. The turning
point, almost exactly halfway through, is Zira's revelation that she is
pregnant. That's when it really gets going.

.html I may be going out on a bit of a limb here but I have to confess to
always being a bigger fan of 'Beneath'
I think it was because it was the first Apes film I saw back when I
was knee high to a chimp. General Ursus fascinated me as a character
and I remember being blown away by the Ape army on the march, and the
mutants peeling back their skin.
It was only later that I caught up with the rest of the series but I
always stayed true to Beneath. Now that I am a wise old man (only 30
though I must add), I can of course see the obvious failings the film
has when directly compared to Planet, but to me it will always remain
my favourite.
When the tv series reared it's beautiful head over here in the UK, I
was absolutely overjoyed that they had reproduced Ursus in the form
of Urko.
I only hope this Attar chap can live up to the menace that Ursus and
Urko had.

Is anyone as confused as I am about the official
website? I figured out the instructions (thanks, Alex) but I'm not sure if I
properly captured the trading card (and what does that mean?). And what's
this Project A.P.E. ? I take it we don't actually have to go to the
location.
- - - Jeff K.
There seems to be a problem at the moment with
capturing the cards. Because once you do, you should be able to store them away
in your own account and view them as FLASH CARDS. But at the moment I myself
can't seem to get in there.
Project A.P.E. yeah you do have to go to the
loction (from my understanding) and once there you will find an official movie
prop if you are the first.
I personaly don't think I would get envolved in
that venture, unless of course they place it in my same street corner.
:o)
Sorry FOX but FIND a movie prop?
Maybe.
FIND a million dollars? Call me Indiana
Jones!!!
No but really, it is a fun Idea, I just don't
have the time for it right now.
But I would if I win that Movie Premiere Contest,
hell I'll make the time!

Not so fast Alan, it was actually Emily Grant Wooton's last film as well,

I think we can all agree on that, but at the time of the production of the
original POTA, they needed a star of Heston's stature to get the film made in
the first place. Now, it is an established property that can almost sell
itself. Getting an up-and-coming actor who has some skill like Whalberg was a
good move IMO. I like him as an actor and am curious to see what he brings to
the table. Most will admit that he was amazing as Dirk Diggler.

.html .htmlHey everyone,
I was talking privately with Matt, who wishes he had a BENEATH 1-sheet, about
what I thought of that poster.
I think it's kind of boring. It shouls have had the image of Ursus and the
mutant on it, as the 3-sheet, insert and window card do.
I was wondering something. . . . Which original APES poster do you like
best? I assume all of you have seen what the original 1-sheet posters looked
like. They're at the end of the "Behind the Planet of the Apes" documentary,
and they're shown in the Inkworks card set.
Please say why you like the poster best, and why you don't like others.
I for one LOVE the PLANET 1-sheet, though many think it dull. I think that
image of the outdoor cage is great, and the picture of Dr. Zaius very cool --
but then I've been living with it since I was eight. I think BENEATH's
1-sheet is unimaginative. They could have done much better. I think
ESCAPE's is great, though maybe they shouldn't have had the three astroapes
shown with their helmets off. CONQUEST's is awesome and really makes you
want to see the movie. BATTLE's -- well, like the film, I find this one a
real comedown. BUT, maybe if what was shown in that poster's art had really
been in the movie, BATTLE might have been better.

Personally, I liked the posters on the German video releases.
Very Cool! Comic book style, really exciting. Not accurate (Ursus/Urko
is on nearly every cover) but great art!
Most of the foreign theatrical posters were more interesting than
the US versions, although the Italian BATTLE poster is downright hysterical!!!
Complete with lazerguns, Flying saucers and the Starship Enterprize!!!
Wowzerz! That's a movie I would've like to have seen!

Yeah, those German video boxes are interesting. They're certainly into
images of powerful gorillas -- I wonder why Germans would be into such
imagery?!!!
Anyway, I've never seen that Italian BATTLE poster you talked about. It
sounds pretty wild. The French BATTLE poster is certainly better than the US
one. Some say the French PLANET poster is the best for that film, but I
don't know. I dislike the Polish PLANET poster, much too strange, however I
think it's the Yugoslavian or Czechoslovian PLANET poster that looks like
POTA meets YELLOW SUBMARINE. That's pretty cool.

Those are pretty wild. I wonder if they had permission to use some of the
artwork from the old Marvel mags or if they just swiped them.

Heads up!
The Globe rag mag has a nice
spread on the new movie with lots of pics, including a pic of Chuck &
Linda with the Zaius from Apemania!
Thanks for the Heads up T, I'll look into
it tomorrow.
Hopefuly I can get a few good scans
for the site.
I just hope FOX resumes thier POTA T.V.
adds, as well as posting them on the official site. Now that would be really
great.
I'd hate to see Jurrasic Park III take
the upper hand in July, I can already tell that moive has nothing new to offer.
Just the same old chase and scream as the last two.
Thanks again T

| Subject: Cinefantastique Summer 1972 |
|
.html Through the magic of eBay, I was able to pick up a copy of Cinefantastique's
Summer 1972 issue. This is the one that was dedicated to POTA and it is a
fascinating artifact of its time. It has brief interviews with all of the
movers and shakers that made the POTA phenomenon happen. Unfortunately, most
of them are dead (Arthur Jacobs, Pierre Boulle, Franklin Schaffner, Roddy
McDowell, Maurice Evans, Paul Dehn, Don Taylor, Rod Serling, Michael Wilson).
The other interviews are with Charlton Heston, Kim Hunter, Ted Post, J. Lee
Thompson, John Chambers, William Creber and Jerry Goldsmith. The issue came
out before CONQUEST and at the time it seems like the general consensus was
the POTA was great, BENEATH was a bit sloppy and ESCAPE was very highly
regarded.
One thing that I found interesting is that it seems like a lot of the info
from the BEHIND THE PLANET OF THE APES documentary was lifted directly from
this magazine. Another thing that I found amusing was an apperent
disagreement between Jacobs and Boulle. In reference to the Statue of Liberty
ending Jacobs said "I sent the finished script back to Boulle, and he wrote
back, saying he thought it was more inventive than his own ending, and wished
that he had thought of it when he wrote the book." Interestingly, in Boulle's
interview section he says: "I disliked somewhat, the ending that was used -
the Statue of Liberty - which critics seemed to like, but personally, I
prefer my own."
I got the magazine for just over $15. My bid was around $6 until some guy
named mlcougar came in and jacked the price up for me (no hard feelings ml, I
know you gotta do what you gotta do). If anyone needs this magazine for their
collection, I highly suggest hunting down a copy.

It's sometimes hard to know what the truth is situations such as this. When
a movie is successful everyone wants to take credit or at least part of the
credit, and wants eveyone to think that all involved were of one mind and
enthusiastic about how things were done. Afterall, what is one to say?
"Well, actually so and so thought it was shit, but we did it that way anyhow
and it works, so fuck him." No, you paint a pretty picture for public
consumption. It goes way back to the old Hollywood publicity departments at
the studios. Anyway, I think Jacobs told the story of how the Statue of
Liberty final just came to him and one-time director Blake Edwards as they
were leaving a deli. But, it's known now that Rod Serling came up with it --
and HE got it from someplace else. The image of a ruined, half-buried Statue
of Liberty appeared on some Sci-Fi mag covers years before. I believe what
Boulle most objected to was Serling introducing nuclear war as the means of
man's downfall. This was antithetical to Boulle's idea of human intellectual
laziness being the cause of the reversal of man and ape.

Like most Frogs, he a damned liar! I'd say the former is most likely the
