Well, I tried not to read too much of that, but it
really doesn't say much -- except that the two people who read the script
didn't think it was that good.
I think it's about 80% that most of us
original POTA fans will have 'issues' with this new film. Firstly,
Zira, Cornelius and Dr. Zaius are going to be sorely missed, secondly, it
isn't going to look or feel like the original movie OR any of the sequels.
It going to be almost entirely new -- and I just don't know. I
just don't know.
-- Rory (Who just doesn't know.)
I strongly agree with you Rory, they will be
missed.
But on the other hand a seqaul to Zira, Cornelius,
Zaius and the rest could never be made because all were clearly killed
off in the films. So I don't see how a sequal of anykind can undo
that. So that's just a reality set back in the days of POTA original. But with
new films comes new fans and new interests, for as a wise man
once said: "memories fade so that life may move on".
Who was this wise man?
Me of course! :o)
<just kidding>

You're right there, however a prequel could be made, showing, for example,
Cornelius' first trip to the forbidden zone. Or Zaius' climb up the ladder
of power only to become the keeper of the "terrible secret". Or Zira's early
studies in comparative analysis of humans and apes. It might not be the
action flick the original was, but still interesting. Zira and Cornelius
meeting at the Academy and comparing theories only to have his archeological
expedition later canceled by Zaius. <.html

It's a great idea for ape fans that's for
sure, but how many people will go see a prequal based on a 30 year old movie
that hasn't been in the main stream for almost as long? Prequals are a
great whole new idea by Lucas, but Star Wars on the other hand is clearly a
whole diffrent movie MONSTER.
I mean come on Rory lets be real about
this.

Alex

Hey! I didn't write the above, Alex! I think that was T. Anyway, I'd want
to see a faithful adaptation of the Boulle book -- that's the new POTA movie
I'd make -- then for the sequels to that someone else could go crazy.

"T",
Not B.S.in' you here either. Those really are good ideas and much more of what
those dips at Fox SHOULD have made.At least your ideas are what tie into
Apes. You aren't "reimagining" or "reinventing" anything. You are on the ball

Rory,
Thank you for saying what I said a long time

How true.
I think what I like most about the new reimaging
is that the original was excellent for the time, as a child growing
up.
But now as an adult, this new rivist will
have more of an adult theme. And agin excellent for the
time.
for example:
original: "why do men have no
souls?"
revisit: "IS THERE A SOUL IN
THERE!!"
RULE THE PLANET TIM!

Alex

The one where he talked about having talked to Roddy McDowall about

A journalist friend of mine attended the awards and said that a bunch of
Apes line dance during the show. He didn't say if it was funny or not but
he said the costumes looked good.
Kind of a goofy stunt to pull prior to the release of the film. What
kind of tone are they trying to set by lampooning the new movie before
it's even been released? I guess they're trying to make it look 'hip' for
the kids.
Best,

You're right there, however a prequel could be made, showing, for example,
Cornelius' first trip to the forbidden zone. Or Zaius' climb up the ladder

early
studies in comparative analysis of humans and apes. It might not be the
action flick the original was, but still interesting. Zira and Cornelius

Rory,
Thank you for saying what I said a long time
ago.
How true.
I think what I like most about the new reimaging
is that the original was excellent for the time, as a child growing
up.
But now as an adult, this new rivist will
have more of an adult theme. And agin excellent for the
time.
for example:
original: "why do men have no
souls?"
revisit: "IS THERE A SOUL IN
THERE!!"
RULE THE PLANET TIM!

Hey Rory,
Thanx for the feedback. We stare at this stuff so much
that we can get desensitized to it. Every little bit of input
from the "real word" helps us to make a better product in the long run.
Likenesses are really tough, especially when choosing a pose or expression
that's nuetral or in-between all of the varied reference fotos available.
My biggest gripe are the eyes. On any head, they're a b*@ch and a
half to get even halfway close to "right" looking.
That B&W is an actual signed copy out of my personal collection.
One of my two favorites, but not a good reference for sculpture because
he's smiling and all scrunched up. Good for the hair though.
As for driving us nuts, try having a hi-end client that lives less
than a mile from your studio. Sometimes I feel I have to hide my
car somewhere so he won't keep dropping in un-announced so much!
I guess he feels the "by ape-pointment only" sign doesn't ape-ply
to him. Everytime he stops by for a visit it's 30 minutes to an hour
of delays and distractions. UGH!
Anyway, all is grand.
Now it's onto the CAESAR statue! Whahoo!

Funny you should say that. That's next on the list for the guy
who commissioned the Zauis.
He recently bought the original chair from Corn's & Zira's house
in BENEATH and wants us to make a seated Zira and baby Milo ala the ESCAPE
poster (US), so after we get the CAESAR statue and the HONORIUS restoration
completed, we'll be moving onto a really good Zira sculpture.
I don't like the one we currently have in our merchandise line (never
really did). It kinda reminds me of those wackey "blow-up Suzy" busts
that guy in New York was trying to pass off on eBay awhile back, only not
as bad as those were.
I've said too much....

Hi Matt,
Hope you're sitting down. They start at $4,500 (minus the costume).
Almost every client that comes are way has "special needs and requests"
so the prices go up from there. The Milo Ape-o-naut and the Ursus
were the two really big ticket items, both of which a person could have
bought a decent car for the same money. Not that I'm complaining,
it is just amazing what length some collectors will go to to have a one
of a kind piece.

Not

No problem Brian. I think your stuff is great and you guys obviously have a
lot of fun. What a dream come true to be able to do something you love. I
enjoy checking out your site every few days to see what's new. I think it
would be cool and fascinating if you did some sort of feature there that had
a step-by-step overview of the restoration process and building of the
mannequin.
As for the prices of your pieces, it seems about fair to me. Obviously, these
are items that the average Joe just can't afford, but for those who can it
definately seems like they are getting their money's worth.
Keep up the good work!

We sure do. I guess that's why we keep doing it. Tomorrow
we are filming a music video for Make-up Artist Magazine for their upcoming
International Trade Show. Sounds like we'll be spoofing the Monkees
for footage that they'll edit in with a montage of famous cinema simians
through out film history. Looks to be interesting.
What a dream come true to be able to do something

Yeah. I owe a lot to the Apes and their influence. It's
a lot of work, but we do love it.

Don't I know it. We have so many fotos of workshop stuff that
it would blow your mind. Once and a while I'll put more on the already
bursting at the seams site.
We have great shots of the Lawgiver, Sarcafagus, Ape-o-Naut, Ursus,
Cornelius, etc, as well as many many make-up process fotos of the gang
getting ready for shows.

In most cases, we go above and beyond the call of duty, cuz' once we
get into a really cool restoration project we can really get into it.
If it's a matter of spending a few extra nights going for that one really
cool result, than we'll do it, even if it's not in the budget.
Anywho...back to the grind.
Thanx again for all the positive feedback.

Speaking of the Memphis convention, does anyone know
if any other APES actors will be in attendance?I know of
Hunter,Harrison,Wright King, and the prez from Escape (sorry, his name
"escapes" me at this minute). If you know of any additions, please post
them.I'd check myself, but I lost that web addresss for the Memphis
convention.Thanks for any additional info.....
I'm not sure but I think the one in Jersey
will be a lot better.
While the Memphis one has two BIG POTA
Stars, the Jersey one will have 4 BIG POTA stars. And Jersey Conventions are
HUGE, and this one is at the Expo Center, while the one in Memphis will
be at a hotel. bit smaller.
Now while Kim Hunter will attend the
Memphis one, if she cancels, the Memphis convention will pretty much be a let
down. While Linda Harrison will attend both Jersey and Memphis so there's
no problem there if you go to Jersey instead.
And stars canceling conventions is not a
first time...believe me!
I would just hate to go all the way to
Memphis only to find out that Kim Canceled, because 99% of the time that's
when you find out!
But with LOU, LINDA, BOOTH and CARY (from
the new film)
The Expo Center in Jersey is going to be
fantastic. That is of course if there's no cancelations
there.
But over all my choice is Jersey, and
that's where I will be God willing.
But hey whoever goes to Memphis make sure
to take photos and we'll share them from both conventions!
I'm sure Brian has gone to quite a few of
them living in California and being the head and creator of Apemania
for so long.
Any photos to share Brian? I would love to
see and post them on the site!
All the best.

I just saw the new film "Evolution." It's a pretty lame film, not funny
enough or spectacular enough with the special effects, in fact, I'm surprised
such a thing got made. It makes "Tremors" look like a masterpiece.
However, POTA fans will be interested to know that it was shot at Lake Powell
and the small town of Page, Arizona. I've been there twice and I've seen
where Taylor's spaceship sunk and where many of the shots during the 'trek'
were filmed. It's a neat place to visit -- but in the last ten years the
town of Page has really grown!

Rory,
I took your advice.I started us an Apes chat room on AOL.Now I know this
limits the room to only those members of the group that are AOL members, but
its a start.
Its listed in the catagory "Arts and Entertainment",under the "Created by AOL
members" classification. Its way toward the bottom of the list,so keep
clicking on "List More" until it shows up.It was there when I tested to see
if it was listed.I don't know how much it'll be used, but we'll see I guess.

If you wait long enough I believe the
official web site will have a chat room soon. I myself would make one but if no
one is willing to post on my Bulletin Board what's the point in making a chat
room?
My hits run between 20 to 30 thousand a day
so as to why no one will post is a mystery in itself. Good thing I have it to
post latest news, if not it would be a forbidden zone! :o)
I personaly love it to post the latest news
with cool graphics so I'll be be keeping it. But just hold on until the
official web site gets their chat room on-line
I'm still waiting for them to put up
they're latest with Daena, the hidden Desktop Wallpaper seems to have a broken
link and they're Video Feature as well as they're Flash Card on Daena is not up
yet but I'm willing to wait.
I only wish they were more quicker on
they're updates.
But the site still
rules!

Alex,
Maybe you should consider it anyway.I mean I know what you are saying about
if no one posts, then they probably won't chat either. But I myself would
rather chat with others sometimes rather than just reading all of these
postings from this egroup. So,again, maybe it is something you could look into
adding to your sight.
And this is in no way meant to be anything against the "Official Sight" or
the "new" movie, but I don't think I'd visit their chat room when its up and
going.I think if it does get going, that most people that would be in there
would be fans of the "new" and that maybe they'd look at the Classic Apes as
being too old fashioned or something (to put it lightly).I could be wrong.I'm
not saying I wouldn't go in there, but I do think the "Official Sight's"
chatroom would be biased against the Classic Apes.I say this because it is
run by Fox,and they do seem to be,in their own way,"disowning" the Apes that
I'm a fan of.It seems like they are of the opinion that the new movie is Apes
now and all of what came before is just meant to be looked at as "old",etc...
So therefore, because of that,I think they will only aim the "Official Sight"
at the followers of the new movie, and that all aspects of the sight will be
geared toward them,including the chatroom.

"Swordfish" is getting nothing but bad reviews, "Evolution" is getting mostly
'dumb but fun' reviews. Since it was Sci-Fi of a sort, AND shot at Lake

I was at Sef's shop 'Oh the Horror' yesterday.
He should be getting the lunch boxes next week.
I picked up two NEW POTA shirts myself. The one with the Thade
Symbol and one of Attar with the Army. Cool shirts!
Best,

P.S. sorry gang, a lot of delayed posts.

| Subject: Re: Are there Apes chat rooms? |
.html
.html
Maybe you should consider it anyway.I mean I know
what you are saying about if no one posts, then they probably won't chat
either. But I myself would rather chat with others sometimes rather than just
reading all of these postings from this egroup. So,again, maybe it is
something you could look into adding to your sight.
And this is in
no way meant to be anything against the "Official Sight" or the "new"
movie, but I don't think I'd visit their chat room when its up and going.I
think if it does get going, that most people that would be in there would be
fans of the "new" and that maybe they'd look at the Classic Apes as being
too old fashioned or something (to put it lightly).I could be wrong.I'm not
saying I wouldn't go in there, but I do think the "Official Sight's" chatroom
would be biased against the Classic Apes.I say this because it is run by
Fox,and they do seem to be,in their own way,"disowning" the Apes that I'm a
fan of.It seems like they are of the opinion that the new movie is Apes now
and all of what came before is just meant to be looked at as "old",etc...
So therefore, because of that,I think they will only aim the "Official Sight"
at the followers of the new movie, and that all aspects of the sight will be
geared toward them,including the chatroom.
Well, I may make one down the road but
first I would like to see how the official site does first. But when and if I do
I'll have it posted on the classic section of my site seeing that the
official site will have one for theirs.
But I do recall someone creating a
chat room here on the e-group, for this e-group does have a chat room
setup. But once it was made, no one chated.
I think it had something to do with the
time slot it was set at. Remember that many here are not just from America but
from all over the world so there are different time zones.
But as for the official site just being
based on the new film, or ever the film itself I would have to disagree. For
this new revisit will have plenty of quotes from the original film as well as
cameos with Heston and Harrison. Which only goes to show that FOX has not
forgotten it's past with apes nor it's fans. I only hope that many won't feel
this way because Ape Sagas are something that should live on and not be stored
away like some genie in a bottle.
If apes blows the box office away it will
be a victory for not just fans of the new film but for all ape fans
alike.
I just don't understand why so many
original fans take this so personal?
God knows I don't, and I know all five
films by heart "word for word."
So no one can clame that I'm not an
original apes fan because I clearly I'm.
All you have to do is look at my site, for
God knows it didn't build itself, nor was it created in six days.
:o)
But anyway I'm not going to get into that,
so for those listening and taking offence, no offence intended nor any replies
will be given on feedback.
I come in peace!
I leave in
peace! :o)
Best,
Alex

Stars!
Oh well, Delayed Posts will soon follows as this
Yahoo problem continues to SUCK!
Digital Dish Diva says: Welcome to MSN Live.
Tonight we are pleased to welcome Tim Roth to MSN Live. Tim stars in the new
film, "Planet of the Apes." Tim, welcome to MSN Live.
Tim Roth says:
Hi.
Digital Dish Diva says: Are you excited about Planet of the
Apes?
Tim Roth says: I was filming yesterday. It is still happening.
We were doing some reshoots and inserts yesterday and the title sequence. I knew
when they told me when it was wrapped that they were lying. It was good to see
the camera crew and the costume people. They were a great bunch of folks. I am
pretty pleased to get back with them.
Digital Dish Diva says: Tell us
about your character.
Tim Roth says: My character is the General of
the Army and he is a firm believer in the fact that humans should be liquidated
and that humans breed too quickly. He is a purist and he believes things should
go back to the animal life.
Digital Dish Diva says: I hear the makeup
alone was a tough process.
Tim Roth says: It took 2 and a half to
three hours. It was quite claustrophobic. I was not as depressed as I thought I
would be. I was quite accustomed to it. It was like having a headcold all day.
It was difficult to eat and you can't pick or blow your nose. If you created a
duststorm it was particularly unpleasant.
Digital Dish Diva
says: Jams says: What did you think when you first saw yourself in the
dailies?
Tim Roth says: I never watch dailies. Often don't even see
the films I am in.
Tim Roth says: When I had to do revoicing I saw
myself in scenes and it was quite extraordinary and refreshing because you don't
always see yourself and that is always a good thing. The stuff I have seen, I
really enjoy looking at. I never watch dailies.
Digital Dish Diva
says: Any favorite part of the films so far?
Tim Roth says: All of
it really. I really enjoyed the experience of making it because of Tim. It is a
big budget movie, which is unusual for me. He makes you feel like you are in a
small independent movie where your opinion matters. I love the film and became
involved in the film because of Tim. The best things were because of him. He is
a very good man and he has a definite vision of the world. He is a god human
being and there is a lot to be said for that.
Digital Dish Diva
says: What kind of acting do you like to do? Drama. Comedy or
romance?
Tim Roth says: No preference. I don't have a preference when
I am reading scripts. Unless it is an atrocious director, which you would never
know. I don't read a script with a set agenda really. It is more fun that
way.
Digital Dish Diva says: Greatbabe says: Any perils on the set
being in heavy costume?
Tim Roth says: I got two herniated vertebrae
from the costume. I may have to have surgery. I recently did a small independent
film in Philly. I laid down for three days and it went away. The costume was
like being punched in the arm continuously. It was very very painful. Not
because of the makeup but because of the costume. It was very tough. There were
no other perils. I got some nerves trapped and my arm. Not particularly
interesting.
Digital Dish Diva says: Lazykid says: Tim, I was
wondering where you filmed this movie.
Tim Roth says: We shot in the
LA studios and at SONY. We were in Hawaii for a few days and the desert in
California. I like the California desert the best.
Digital Dish Diva
says: TYMORE says: Tim, which character are you most like?
Tim Roth
says: None of them. I am a good deceiver or liar. I am like none of the
characters I play. Not really. I am like no one.
Digital Dish Diva says:
When you were little who inspired you as far as actors?
Tim Roth
says: Really anyone in a pirate movie or a war movie. When I became a teen I
became interested in acting so Brando or Montgomery Cliff, Cary Grant, Spencer
Tracy. I like physical acting. What Cary did was make romance and physical
acting part of the same thing. Charles Walton, Ingrid Bergman, Pacino. They
inspired me I suppose. Pacino.
Digital Dish Diva says: Alina1 says:
Which actors would you like to act with?
Tim Roth says: Most are dead.
I like Willem Dafoe, Steve Buscemi, Billy Cruddup, and Benicio Del Toro. I would
like to work with him. The idea of working with him would be fascinating to me.
Ray Winston. I would like to act and direct with him. Gerard
Depardieu.
Tim Roth says: Of the young guys on the screen, Billy
Cruddup is one of the most interesting. He seems like an intelligent person. I
like Giovanni Ribisi. I think he might turn into a very interesting actor. There
are people who care about acting and not how they look and if they don't vanish
into the Hollywood enema, they might turn into something. Cruddup and Ribisi are
most interesting of that field. I would cast him in something I was directing.
Tim Roth says: I think Mark Wahlberg is interesting. We had a
director in common. There is something interesting about that guy. He has some
real guts. He is so far from behaving like a movie star. He has some acting
chops and he fascinates me. It would be kind of interesting. I like actors that
an audience is drawn to and go beyond what they are known for. I don't think
Laura Dern has reached her potential yet. It is hard to say as far as actresses
because they are used like prostitutes in filmmaking. I am sure there are some
very good ones out there. Laura Linney is kind of interesting. I wouldn't mind
Jessica Lange, Angelica Houston or Sissy Spacek. I don't know about the young
ones. The girl from "Election" was fascinating--Reese Witherspoon. She should
stop going down the road she is on and do a complete turnabout. She could be a
fascinating actress. Who knows?
Digital Dish Diva says: Nanus says:
Did you keep anything from the film?
Tim Roth says: I keep the
occasional souvenir. From this film I had a slate signed by Tim Burton and Dick
Zanuck and the director of photography and that was my souvenir. They may give
the armor I wore. I deserved it. I tend to think about having souvenirs but in
the end I just move on. For a lot of my films I have nothing. I always think I
should have something but posterity means insuring your death so I move
on.
Digital Dish Diva says: KCI says: How will you celebrate the
end of the film?
Tim Roth says: It is always good when a film is
over. It is not my film. It is Tim's film. You wonder and worry if you lived up
to your director's expectations. The film is not mine. All you can hope is that
you have done a good job for them. My 16 year old is coming to the premiere and
that will probably be the first time I will see the film.
Digital Dish
Diva says: LUCE_UK says: Tim, do you have a hard time with
accents?
Tim Roth says: On one level I do but they can get in the way
of the acting. They stop you from feeling free. I have a fantastic collection of
dialogue coaches. So, yes on one hand and no on the other hand.
Digital
Dish Diva says: Wainscot says: What do you do when you are not
acting?
Tim Roth says: The last job I had was working in the
supermarket. I was working there and at a pharmacy. For all the junkies out
there, that is a good job. I worked in a bar. I was a mailboy at the post
office. I would imagine I would be doing something along those lines. If I had
my choice I would be doing something in child welfare like helping children get
over trauma. That is where I would be. That is what the film I directed was
about. I don't want to be teaching but to be a childcare expert in some way.
Digital Dish Diva says: veggiemte says: Hi Tim, first acting
job?
Tim Roth says: My first experience was a musical at school
called "Dracula Spectacular." I played Dracula. I then became an actor. My first
paid job I played Trevor a Nazi skinhead in a film called "Made in Britain" Then
there was film, TV and theatre. That was my first real job.
Digital Dish
Diva says: Platosmom says: What are you working on?
Tim Roth says:
I just wrapped a new film called "Keith Snyder" starring me and Gabriel
Byrne and a young actor, Scott Wolfe. We shot the film in five weeks in Philly,
which is a great city. I met some great people in Philly. I had a great time.
Now I have to decide to direct one of two films. One is an epic and one an epic
on a small scale. Either in Europe or China. I have to make my mind up what I am
going to do. Every project is insane but I like it that way. There is no
monotony in acting.
Digital Dish Diva says: Lizandmark says: Did
you see the original "Planet of the Apes"?
Tim Roth says: I saw the
movie when I was a kid and then the TV series. I got to know, Roddy McDowell. We
talked about it. I spoke with Tim yesterday and we said Roddy would have loved
to be in this. He was a photographer. We became friends. He would have really
enjoyed this experience. He would have really appreciated Tim and his twisted
world. This was ten years in the making. I want people to go "Oh, my God!" when
they see this and swing with it. It is not Shakespeare. It should be just
seriously good mad fun. Good old action sci-fi fun movie
whatever.
Digital Dish Diva says: How would you convince someone
to see this film?
Tim Roth says: I wouldn't. Do what you like. See the
trailers if you fancy it. Go have a look. I try to make the character convincing
and interesting enough to people. The same with Mark and Helena. Bottom line is
that it is a film. If you fancy it, go and have a look. Get the video from some
illegal dealer. There is nothing I can say except when they came to me, what
inspired me was Tim afar from anything else. Not the money or the makeup for
hours. It was just about Tim Burton. Anybody who likes that twisted world and
his maniacal grin, go for that.
There is fun to be had. I haven't seen
the film. It is not Shakespeare but it is a certain kind of madness that people
can enjoy. There was nothing about "Batman" I wanted to see except that it was
Tim's. He is a good man with a good heart and a pretty damn good filmmaker.
He is exhausted but he is till laughing and there is room for that. I
don't know what this film is going to be like. I have seen some nice pictures.
It is his vision. If they let him do his work, it might be kind of interesting.
He is a very special man. He is, as they say at home, a good
sort.

Gee, and it was Liz Smith who back in '68 said of "Planet of the Apes" in

fascinating, totally entertaining!" I guess she's just become an old-fart,
