Rory, did you speak to Jane at FOX ?I spoke to her on monday and she told me
things were fine for nov release, she was going to check if they were

Okay, now I really don't know what's going on.  In the APES chat room some of
us were in Tuesday night someone -- and I forget who now -- said they had
talked to Jane that day and the TV show DVDs were off again.  He said he'd
call her again on Wednesday and get more info and then post it, but he
didn't.   So that's were I am.

I haven't called Jane because the last time I did, she sounded a little
annoyed with all the APES calls she was getting.  I'm perfectly happy to just
wait and see what comes out on Nov. 20th.  I'm not exactly climbing the walls
over this.  When it comes, it comes.

does not star Marc Singer.- Jim T.

Alex, do you think we should go see "Dr. Dolittle 2" this weekend?

Might be something interesting on just before it.  Think?

-- Rory

Well if your going to see Dr Dolittle I'd say yes for sure, but if your going to see it for a possible POTA trailer I'd say wait and see what happens on the official site this weekend. As I'm sure that the trailer will be posted there if any new trailer is going to be released.

Most likely I'm going to see it, but not before I see a couple of films I haven't see yet. So I may not see it this weekend but instead the following weekend.

I agree it isn't 'necessarily' true, but I'll bet most people under the age
of 20 or 25 don't know much about movies older than five or ten years.

Hell, three people in the chat room the other night never saw "Rosemary's
Baby"!!!!   Which, by the way, has Maurice Evans in it, and was filmed right
after he worked on PLANET.

Who know?  Anyway, Harry Knowles, who runs this site, says he's afraid of the
new POTA because he's afraid Burton will warp his views of the old films.  He
might have something there.  He also says the original films are "sacred."

Well, we all know that!

I'm pretty sure I overheard the property manager and also Rick Baker's number two guy indicating reshoots in Hawaii when I was at the show in LA this past Sunday.  Everyone, including Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa and some guys from the "Ape Army", said it was a 5 day shoot starting today.

My wife and I took a TON of pictures at the show btw, Booth Coleman, Tagawa, lots of props from the movie.  I'll start putting them up on our website next week.  It was cool, got to finally meet Eric Greene in person at the show, real nice guy.  He was all jealous that my wife and I had Zira and Cornelius on top of our wedding cake in April.  :)

They may be sacred, but just like the Bible they sure have a lot of inconsistencies and contradictions!!!

If nothing else, I hope the new version/s can be accurate and free of plot confusion.

The Ain't-it-cool-news website is reporting that Burton is shooting something
at the Pinewood studios in London.  It could be this "secret" ending that
only he and the producers know of.

Who know?  Anyway, Harry Knowles, who runs this site, says he's afraid of the
new POTA because he's afraid Burton will warp his views of the old films.  He
might have something there.  He also says the original films are "sacred."

Well, we all know that!

I'm keeping an open mind on the film.

I still believe it can generate interest in the classic and therefore enable
scenarios such as the release of the TV Series, Cartoon show. Maybe even a
TV only 2 hour movie telling of the fate of Virdon & Burke (would need Brian
for the make up/costumes and I would want to discuss with original
actors/writers where they thought the fate of the astronaut fugitives lay).

If the movie is crap - so be it. I still watch classic Lost in Space and
the movie did not spoil that for me or cheapen the original.

Many people in this group are negative, closed minded and "precious" about
the originals. I am being positive and keeping an open mind. While I have
reservations about the film, I am not going to dwell on the negative because
that is a negative thing to do.

Let's see the film and then decide.

Michael

When I first heard about the 'remake' last year, I thought it was a
terrible idea. Since then I've come to agree completely with Michael.
Going into the theatre with blinders on -- or boycotting Burton's
film outright -- is just plain silly. The originals will *always* be
special. Nothing Hollywood does can change that.

I'm looking forward to seeing Burton's film for a few reasons. It's
new. It's different. Who knows, it might even be 'original' in its
own right.

Most important, it's bound to create new Apes fans, some of whom will
get curious and discover the originals through it. And I reckon
that's a good enough reason to welcome it with enthusiasm. /Mez

Indeed Mez.
Here's a post from the Coming Attractions Forum.

I have not seen the original POTA, but got really interested in this movie after I saw the trailer for it. Plus Burton kicks major ass when he is at his best. I definetly plan on going to see this on the big screen. But what I want to know is, should I see the original POTA first, or not?

POTA interests indeed.
And yet the film hasn't even come out yet.

It makes sense to have more than one ending. Not only does it allow Burton
to chose the one that plays best, but it make it easier to keep it a
surprise. Though I don't think they can top the ending from the first film.
I hope they can keep it a secret. I'd hate for someone to spoil it for me.

For sure, I agree with that.
For everyone here has to remember that July 27th is only state side while the rest of the release dates run between August to even October I believe.
And November, if rumors are true, a DVD release in Thanksgiving 2001 (same year)

It can't get no better than that!

Okay, I'm recalling this off the top of my head, so I may be wrong in some
details.

James Franciscus was a VERY heavy smoker -- three or four packs a day.
People tried to get him to stop, even BENEATH director Ted Post, but he
wouldn't.

What happened to him is this. . .  He had emphysema so bad that one day while
lying on the living room couch he stopped breathing.  His wife called the
paramedics and they were able to resuscitate him, BUT he'd gone without
breathing long enough to render him braindead.  He was on a hospital
resuscitator for two or three days before his wife had them turn it off.
I've read that as he was dying his wife sat by his side saying, "Poor baby.
Poor baby."

Let that be a lesson to those of you who smoke.

.html I was in visiting a friend at Fox Home Entertainment today a got a sneak peak at the packaging for what I believe to be the International ( not America or Canada ) packaging for the film series on DVD. Like the U.S release, it'll be a 6 disc set including "Behind the Planet of the Apes" ( I couldn't ascertain which version but assume it will be the regular version, not the version being released by Image Entertainment in the U.S next month). The basic look of the packaging uses the same elements as the 'Evolution' DVD set, but is presented in a fold out 'digi-pack' that hold the six individual discs instead of 6 separate 'clamshell' cases. It is much more compact and looks similar to the 'X-Files"  DVD box sets for those who are familiar with those. There will be a booklet ( but I didn't see that ) and the fold out section will be embossed with the image of 'Caesar' that appears on the 30th Ann. 'Planet' cover. It then fits into a cardboard slipcase that features the 'Liberty and Taylor' art from the 30th 'Planet' cover. From what I saw it looked well presented and will make a nice collectible pack. I have no idea if the same art and packaging style will be used for the planned U.S re-release of the series later this year.

Really? No dubbed American accents? Cheers Mike! You rule! Musta been
goin' flat out like a lizard drinkin'. My fave Aussie phrase! Got that one
from Mel 'Mad Max' Gibson off E! Wild On Australia. And you gotta love that
car! A DJ here just bought the Mach 5, but I like the Interceptor even
better. I think there's a connection there. I could almost swear that in
the dubbed version we can get over here, that Peter Fernandez, the voice of
Speed and Racer X did the voices of Max and Fifi. Can anyone confirm of deny
this? It sure sounds like him anyway.
It's a shame about Lost in Space though. I don't know why it hasn't been
picked up by Nick or TV Land. Oh the pain, the pain, the pain . . . If the
movie's gonna have a sequel, you think they'd be hypin' the show. Then
again you'd think that Sci -Fi would pick up the POTA series for another
season. Where are the advertising geniuses on this one? Good thing I guess,
or no DVDs.
Oh, there will be a Speed Racer movie BTW, to tie in with all these Mach 5s
they're selling. Live action apparently. But with them starting at $72.5k,
probably only Brian has the scratch to pick one up. Especially since Jeff
gave him all his money.

One thing's for sure. If it doesn't turn a profit there won't be any more
Apes movies any time soon. So whether you're all for a retelling or you're a

    If you go to:

    http://www.ctv.es/USERS/andrea/frames_i.htm

they list Empire of the Apes as a SET.

The only actual PHOTO I saw was of Taylor/Gorilla - did I miss any?

    Looks very exciting!

      Hi All!

My name is Dave Lasher and I am brand new to this group.
I have been a Planet of the Apes fan ever since I was a kid in the
70's. I remember playing for hours with the little action figures
and the Planet of the Apes treehouse. Of course I always had to mess
around with things. Like I would bring my Star Trek action figures
into the story and beam the apes up to my little plastic enterprise
      bridge.
Anyway, I guess at 36, I haven't changed so much because I'm messing
around with things again. I've just recorded a parody song based on
the first Planet of the Apes movie. The music is based on Flagpole
Sitta by Harvey Danger. If anyone is interested in checking it out,
you can find it at http://www.mp3.com/davelasher You might get a
      laugh out of it.
I can't tell you how psyched I am about the new movie!!! I hope they
do the franchise justice. Still, it will be a must see no matter how
      bad it may turn out.
Well, I'm off to read the archived posts now to see where all your
heads are at. Nice to meet you. See you soon.

I just emailed Andrea Miniatures to find out if they are going to
continue this as a series. I'll let everyone know when I receive a
reply. Still trying to figure out the price conversion. If it's like
some of their other two figures sets I've seen in the past expect
      around $50.

They do almost all of their figures in white metal. If they ever
produce a figure on horseback or groups of figures the cost jumps
      considerably.

Right now it looks as this two figure piece is the only one they have
made so far. They refer to two figures as a set, it doesn't mean they
have a line of POTA figures produced yet. If we all go and email them
with suggestions and purchase this first "set" more may follow.

Yeah, I saw that on Jeopardy last night too. Knew that they would have
to have a question about the new flick. Haven't been posting much lately.
Guess I needed to take a break & recharge my batteries, so to speak. Nice to
see some new members to the group. Welcome all, come on in, the water is
fine. Sorry I missed the chat last week. I'll keep my eyes out for the next
one. Don't forget part I of "Behind POTA" on AMC tonight at 10 Eastern. I
really liked that new minature from Andrea whatever. I went to the site, but
got some kind of error message in spanish. Yikes! Hope they have a Nova
miniature. BTW, tomorrow night the Simpsons is repeating the episode where
they go on safari. Towards the end, Lisa is looking through one of the
scientists notebooks & there is a quick shot of the Hunt, as can only be
drawn by Groening. Keep your eyes peeled, it's only a quick shot.Well, a
month to go. We're into the home stretch. Go Apes! John

Yeah, it comes out to the same price. $39.99. If you buy them at individual price at $9.99 it's the same thing. It's just that this box set is a limited edition box set at 5000 only. Good for collectors but if your just out to buy and paint. The individual ones are just fine.

They also have the original Monster kit as well, Frank, Drac, Wolfy and Mum. 5000 limited edition.

Funny you should ask because I just got from a local Walmart store as did Rob and low and behold HOOP THERE IS! All five that are on e-bay where there!

The company that makes them says on their website that they used these puppet
apes for scenes on a space station where apes are trained for space flights.
They are used in the background because a lot of baby apes were needed.  I
would imagine they are very much in the background.

Actually what I know of Franciscus' death is what I read in this book on the
deaths of actors.   I looked at it in a bookstore years ago, but I didn't buy
it, AND I can't remember the name of the book.  But it was interesting.  I

himself installing a garbage disposal under the kitchen sink).
