question was.
But, it was about the way television interviewers portray Apes fans and try

The Learning Channel is showing an interesting look at the making of the
Statue of Liberty right now. Ironically enough the first glimpse anyone got
of it was of the torch, arm and head. In order to get funding Bartolli sent
the torch arm to New York and displayed the head in Paris. Interesting that
the original story and the icon most associated with it both came from France.

It's actually Winter here on the other side of the world Matt, so the kids only get like two weeks off school around this time.
But aside from the geography lesson, I can't believe how naive this guy is to think that no Australians would be on the group that wouldn't expose him as a cheat. You have to give him 'A' for initiative but as I know the girl who co-ordinates the Australian Fox web site, I'll be passing his name along with a copy of his initial email to the group.
Best,

As we're looking at (in our media studies course at high school) all
the original POTA films and also studying Pierre Boulle's original
novel),we have to conduct a net poll amongst casual or preferably
advanced POTA film fans on the two questions below.   If I could tap
into the POTA creative wit and extensive knowledge of any readers,
I'd greatly appreciate it.

Isn't school out for the summer????I'm with Whitty on this one, this seems
like a fraud.I hope you guys don't fall for it either.

Luke, or whoever the fuck you are, lying to people about having an essay and
asking for ideas is not tapping imaginative ideas and wit. It is
bullshitting and stealing ideas under false pretenses.

If I have broken the rules by entering more than once then I'm sure the
people at Fox are sophisticated enough to write into their program a way of
preventing this. You are wrong, you are an asshole.

You are also too gutless to use your own name.

Now fuck off and find an original idea.

Other people do it all the time.

Plus you're only sposed to enter the Aussie Fox comp once,so you've
broken the rules by entering 50 times. So if you want to report me
fine ; I'll tell Fox you entered that many times and disregard your
entries. I'm not going to do that,as I'm not an asshole.

from the TV series and animated series called "JEDI APES" a crossover of
the STAR WARS (Special Edition Trilogy & Prequel Trilogy) and the

"Somewhere in the early future circa 2015AD in the futuristic

solve the crimes. Space Ace the laserdisc animated videogame superhero

If ever there was a futuristic type film for Planet of the Apes, I think seeing the apes in those Empire type SS suits with tall boots form Star Wars would be pretty neat. (minus the light sabers of course) beyond that I couldn't imagin seeing an ape in a three piece suit, nor anything done before for a futuristic look.

So who knows, perhaps a seqaul to Burton's Apes might have something like this.
A Real Apes Empire Look! That would be mind blowing.

This is good news indeed - Jerry usually plays a suite from Planet of the
Apes at his concerts (he played a concert in London last month and played
the suite again). It consists of The Search Continues, The Hunt, and one
other piece which I've rather criminally forgotten at the moment.

Just thought you might want to see one of my projects that I finally

and I thought I would get your opinions. I know it is far from
correct but I am pretty proud of how it turned out.

    http://www.members.aol.com/andygarringer/mycarbine2.jpg

All the carbine parts are cast in resin from my original WWII carbine
and the stock is solid white oak. I cut the basic shape with a band
saw and the final shaping was all done with an electric palm sander.
Stained a dark mahogany and then a semi gloss polyurethane. The
leather sling is an original WWII sling that I bought off ebay.

I made the gun rack after seeing the cool ones that Brian sells on
his Apemania site. Mine is made with the blue building foam and then
painted with fleckstone paint. A final wash of dirty black to give it
that "used" look. The POTA nametag was cast in resin from one of the
Hasbro small action figure bases and then painted to resemble rust.

Be gentle, it's my first 1:1 prop.

    Hi Crystal.
I didn't know anything about it until I was told last night. But I was able to catch the rebroadcast on it. So it was already shown. But I will have it posted tonight.
Also according to sources, FoX will have a special on POTA Web. July 25th, I believe on the Fox Channel. The same channel that shows the Simpsons in your area.

I heard a POTA reference on The Simpsons today...
Bart and Homer started racing a horse called Furious D
The announcer remarked on his attitude saying could this be the beginning of
the Planet of the Horses? And took off running.

After reading the Ape issue of that ST mag Starlog, I realized that no
one is getting what they want out of this film. But that also holds true
      with the first one.
Baker wanted baboon shock troops. Burton fought for what he wanted before
knuckling under to the studio. The only one who's getting what he wants is
Dick Zanyuk. He's getting a Tim Burton Ape movie...and a big pile of money.

At this point all I want is to be able to enjoy it without going...WTF?
Oh, BTW...only female chips this go 'round. Rick didn't have time for
      anything else.
Which goes back to what I've been saying for sometime... They sat on their
thumbs for nearly ten years, and then what? They shoot the damn thing in six
months and put it out in less than a year. Everyone says, "We didn't rush
it." with the same conviction that the cops insist the congressman is not a
suspect in the intern's disappearance. It was rushed. Either someone is
setting release dates by their horoscope, or they just want some quick cash
to cover all the stinkburgers they've been churning out. Lets hope they take
some time with the next ones. And not shoot them back to back like the new
SWs or Matrix sequels. If they can't get Gilliam for the sequels, I hope
Burton will come back and flesh out his "World". Maybe we'll see a society
with females from other species, or at least a plot that's a bit more than
      Gorilliator.

Maybe it's just the anticipation of the premier being only a couple of weeks

Well, I've just returned from a two-week vacation.  I was almost completely
cut off, no computer around at all, but I was able to watch the Sci-Fi
Channel on satellite and the first thing I saw when I turned it on was one of
the two commercials they're running for the new movie.  If I was in at around
five in the afternoon, I'd watch a classic Star Trek episode just to see the
new POTA commercial during it.  I can remember watching Star Trek on NBC in
'68 and seeing a commercial for the original POTA.  It's a strange feeling.

I guess from the e-mails I've just gotten through that the new POTA figures
can now be found at Toys-r-us and Wal-Mart (though the Wal-Mart where I was
didn't have them.  I also need to get to a bookstore and checkout the
      magazine rack.

And I guess tomorrow night on MTV there will be a behind-the-scenes show on
the new movie (at 10:30 est), and the Elfman score CD will be out on July
      24th.

Anyone know when HBO will be showing their POTA promo stuff?

I'm a little surprised we're not reading about people having had a sneak peek
at the new movie, but I guess Fox wants to keep a lid on it for as long as
possible (though I hope that's not because they expect bad word of mouth).

Oh, by the way....  The only movie I've seen in the last two weeks was "A.I."
I was VERY disappointed with it.  I think Kubrick, if he'd lived, either
would have made something better, or passed on the whole thing (which I guess
he did).  I think the idea was interesting, but the Pinocchio analogy was
just so forced it became really silly -- and the bit with humans wanting to
watch the androids be brutally destroyed was just stupid.  It was all just
typical of Spielberg plastic and shallow imagination.  He should have known
he didn't have a good enough screenplay and hired a better writer than
      himself.

So, you'll all be hearing from me again now.   See Ya!

      .html
.htmlI got out to my local Borders today.  Found that Thade from the new film is
on the cover of Fangoria (or Fangora?), and I also finally saw the Makeup
Artist mag with him on the cover too.  But all this was really soured for me
when I picked up the latest issue of Scr(i)pt magazine and read the cover
article on the screenplay for the new film.   "Oh my God!" do they rip it.
All my worst fears for what this film will be like have been confirmed.  They
say that all the intellect and resonant meaning of the original film have
been abandoned and that you can pretty much expect just a meaningless
hodgepodge of action scenes with the new film.  And that not one of the
characters and match those of the original.  This is pretty much what I
expected, but I was hoping for the best.  Now I fear the worst.

I guess the problem is Lawrence Konner and Mark Rosenthal being hired to do
the rewrite.  Even the "Unoffical Companion" book that I bought this
afternoon says their hiring is "the cinematic equivalent of having Jackie
      Collins punch up Tom Wolfe."

Speaking of that book. . . I bought it for some of the pictures in it (You
can see Jeff Krueger with and without a beard -- I guess he goes in for
fads.)    Anyway, most of the text isn't anything we don't already know, and
some of the author's mistakes are funny.

I also bought the new paperback version of Boulle's book, though I don't like
      the type-set they've used.

A strange one is finding a new CD of Goldsmith's PLANET score.  I thought
Varese Sarabande had the rights to this, but Borders had this CD from
"Intercontinental Record & Cassette Inc." out of Hauppauge, NY.   What's
really strange is that it's not the complete score, but what Intrada put out
nearly ten years ago, only this time  the 11 tracks are in the order they
were in the film.  They also use reproductions of the original LP jacket.
The best thing about it was that it was just $6.00!  I haven't played it yet,
but I'll bet the Varese Sarabande CD sounds better.  A very strange find.
      This score sure gets around.

I also stopped at Toys-R-Us and saw all the new action figures, but after
being so depressed by what I read in Scr(i)pt magazine, I just looked.  Until
I see this new movie and know whether I like it or not, I'm just not all that
      interested.

I also saw that the latest issue of Action Figure and Toy Digest (or whatever
it's called) has a big article on POTA figures from Mego to the Hasbro new
film ones.  Worth getting.  (Sorry I can't remember the title of the mag.)

Well, that's it from me. . . for now.

      Music to my ears.
If I see a remake of Planet of the Apes with all original ideas, I won't bother to see it at all. It would be like seeing the movie twice wouldn't it. New ideas, that's what it's all about. If not, why bother make the movie?

Yeah, everyone seems to be in agreement that the first draft of the script,
the one they were two cheap to make, was superior to the rewrite. Though
with centaurs, I don't know. Anyway, we can hope that, if they pick up the

I think that will work against them. There's been a JP out every couple few
years. No one's seen an Apes flick on the big screen in nearly a generation.
I just hope that since the new POTA has put all it's eggs in the action

I think there are good writers out there. But if they write a good script,
they'll bring in a couple of hacks to "punch it up" and then if you get a
good director, the studio will rein in any efforts to try and salvage
anything good from the now watered down script or any good ideas of his own.

I'm not too crazy about it, and I hope it's not in the film.  I've read that
Burton thinks the original films had a kind of fairy tale quality too them
(!), so maybe he's trying to beat that over our heads, but I hope it doesn't
      survive to the final film.

      .htmlThis is from Inside.com:

An exibitor screening for the film (Planet of the Apes) originally set for
tonight has been delayed by two days whilst the junket will shift to Friday.
Seems the production is 3-4 days behind shedule with post-production
special-effects work still underway whilst live-action reshoots of the
opening 'rocket crash' scene took place just two weeks ago - "We were in the
lab all weekend long.  We've never done a film on this tight a schedule" says
FOX Vice Chairman Bob Harper.  The July 27th release will be met but it will
be extremely close (execs at the studio apparently haven't seen the film yet
      either).

This is almost unbelievable!  I don't know if this is good or bad, but it
seems bad.  I wonder if even Burton has a grasp of things.

news on POTA reshoots/Elfman score changes, etc.
When this stuff starts to happen, 'tis usually not a good sign, but
      me fingers crossed regardless ...

The same things were said about JAWS when Spielberg released it. Spielberg was having all kinds of problems when making JAWS.
Sometimes, bad things happen for very good reasons. :o)

so what do you people think of the beginning narration that is to
accompany the film (it's in one of the trailers so I assume it will
be in the film)? I don't mind narration so much, as long as it isn't
completely stupid, condescending, or pointless. Still though, most
      people tend to hate narration.

That's not a narration to the film.
That's a quote from Ari IN the film.

Would you like the full quote? :o)

      Best,
      Alex
