Hey there, and welcome to the group!
My name's Joe. I'm the 'kid' (as Rory likes to say) here being only 15.
I've been growing up with APES all my life, so I'm not a 'newbie'. Meh.
Anyway, I look forward to discussing different things here with you. Have a
nice stay. ;)

Well, it was a bit of a formula movie but pure entertainment and got you to
sit up in your chair and cheer for the "good" guy (though it was
historically inaccurate, but not so much as Battle for the POTA....).....
Oh never mind....
Oh yeah, and what the hell is Digest Number 660?

P.S. I admire Zanuck too, to a certain
extent.
As all things of course. May Justice be served.
Just uploaded an exclusive with Mark Wahlberg:
He talks about the Planet of the Apes ending, Tim Burton and the sequel
as well as his own plans for the sequel. This real player file also contains
Walhberg and Heston at the premiere together...pretty cool.
Best.
Al
P.S. Didn't mean to sound so hard on Eric Greene's review but all this
comparing between Classic and Remake is really getting out of hand. Both
films have their own imperfections so i just set the record
straight.

None taken. I thought as much. Back at ya!
But, if you must know...I did enjoy Braveheart.
Not only does it have infighting... But any film with
decapitations, can't be all bad. Pardon my reference, but...

"Braveheart" was excellent, by the way. Too bad Gibson wasn't a POTA fan and
starred and directed the new movie (with his pal George Miller).

Yes, the apes in the original film were supposed to be more advanced than
those in the new movie -- higher up on the evolutionary scale -- just as the

Now, Ari and those other female chimps in Burton's poop? Genetically

I agree with you 100% Jeff. But that's just my point.
Instead of being so damn picky about it (not you). Just
enjoy it for what it is. And that both have their imperfections. So the bottom
line is that no one has the right to be so judgemental and just enjoy it for
what it is. Two great and separate adventures on the Planet of the Apes.

it more times than you have),
More time than me. I would have to disagree
with you there Chief.
As for the originals, I love the original
actors just as much as anyone here, but truth is truth. Tim Roth's performance
along would blow away any of the original actors...And you know
that for a fact. But while each has it's own imperfections they both stand as
two great and balanced films. All I'm saying is stop being so damn picky.
BECAUSE NO ONE HERE HAS THE RIGHT TO BE.
From moving lips to charater depth (on both
sides) is only the beginning.
So lets just drop nonsence shall
we.
Best.

Well I think Hollywood stoped making good scripts about 20 years ago. When
they sarted replacing charater depth with action. We can all thank Arnold
and Sly for that. Thank God things are sarting to come around again. Due in part
with Cameron and his hit Titanc, people just started to get sick of nonscenes
action and wanted more of meaningful stories. After Titanic things were never
the same for Arnold and Sly...THANK GOD! Although I wouldn't mind seeing a

THADE

LEO
"Stupid people, smart guns".
Then closes the Oberon's door on him.
Thanks Tim, your a movie saver!

Nonsense!
Now hold on there...
Both Hunter and Heston are Academy Award winning actors. And I would put
their performances against anyone in the new cast including Roth.
Granted Bonham-Carter and Duncan have both been nominated, but neither have
ever won. I won't even mention Wahlbergs performance. But to get back to
the facts. Yes, the new cast seemed more like apes, because they were asked
to be. The original cast weren't. Anyway, I'm trying to jack up the box
office as well. I'm on your side! I like the new movie. I've seen the thing
half a dozen times. And I'll probably see it again on Labor Day. Maybe you
have seen it more, but other than a few things I would have changed, (and if
Burton was honest, he probably would have to, if he had a chance to step back
from the work and look at it objectively) I enjoyed it. So get off my tits!

.html Here's a couple of things...
Ari and Leo both lost their horses and had to cross on their own.
How did they get the extra horse later in the film?
Also, the effect where the sky isn't quite blue was achieved with a set of
varicolor lenses. They're only made for still cameras so they had to track
down the President on Paris and get a custom set made. There is only the
one. And it wouldn't fit the filter holders and was just barely big enough
to cover the lens, so it had to be taped over it. No mean feat in a dusty
location like Trona. I think the combination they used the most was orange
and purple. Then they would time the color to be about normal keying off the
flesh tones. But the filters are hard to get apart, and it was very hard for
them to get the exact same degree of rotation on them. Plus the effect is
unique. So it's different every time you change the camera angle to get a
different shot. Which if why the shots don't quite match up from scene to
scene. Not that it mattered much last night at one of the local schmega-plex
theaters. After the first reel they cut the wattage on the projectors bulb
and it was even darker than usual and you could hardly see the colors at all.
Can't really blame them though. They only pulled in 25 bucks on that last
show. <.html

"Tim Roth's performance along would
blow away any of the original actors...And you know that for a

After everything was said and done, I
thought that Thade was a pretty one-dimensional villain. A little too
over-the-top, jumping around and just seething. More like a characature
of a villain. The only thing he didn't say was the ole one-liner "After
them you fools!" ala Skeletor.
Still, you have to grab onto whatever you
can with this film, so when compared with the rest of the film, I guess
that yes that performance was pretty good.

A nice thing about the original
flicks is that they had what Eric Greene likes to call sympathetic villians. Tim
Burton likes the more over-the-top villians (actually, he likes everything over
the top). From Joker and Beetlejuice to the Headless Horseman to Anthony Michael
Hall in "E. Scissorhands", his villians aren't misunderstood. But to paraphrase
Alex, Vive la difference!
But I think H.B. Carter shaded Ari,
so that's why she's my fave. I think Tim Roth even told her that he had the easy
part, the villian.

Well I don't think cheating is right at anytime. But in knowing
this it gives no surprise to see that Linda and DICK ended up divorced. Once a
cheater always a cheater. So it's only a matter of time before it happens to

Yeah, but since the film from this summer wasn't
even part of the series (just had the same title slapped on), I doubt they'd
ever meet up ;)

If so, he did a pretty good job of putting that aside in "What Women Want"
when dressed in panty hose, a bra, and make-up. So my guess would be, "No,
he's not." But, then, what do I know... <.html

There's too many movie goers who aren't picky. So I'm glad there are people
saying, "Uh uh. If you're going to call it "Planet of the Apes" you have to
do a better job". But there's also a lot to admire in the new one too.

I agree. While the originals are certainly better, there were a lot of
things I liked about the new one as well, faults though it may have. <.html

Well, here's the thing -- yahoogroups gives the option of receiving list
emails all at once, in digest form, or as they come one at a time. On a
list like this, where you could get 100 a day, some prefer not to have
thier mailboxes filled, so they change their preferences at yahoogroups.com
to get it in digests of 25. When they arrive, they have the subject line
"[pota] Digest Number ___" and right now, this list is almost up to #670.
I hope that clears it up for ya'!

almost exactly like David Warner's make-up.

.html .htmlI want to tell anyone interested here that if you have the American Movie
Classics Channel you might want to check out, if you've never seen it, a film
called "100 Rifles" (1969). It's on three times on Wednesday, Sept. 5th (at
2 pm, 10 pm, and 3:45 am EST).
It stars Raquel Welch, Jim Brown and Burt Reynolds, but it's Fernando Lamas
who's a real hoot as a Mexican General. The movie is not great but it has
its moments. If you need to relate it to APES, think of the Mexican army as
the gorillas and the Yaqui Indians as the humans.
But what really connects this to APES is that it's a Fox film, has another
kick-ass Jerry Goldsmith score, and there's this actor named Hans Gudegast in
it you might want to check out.

that there's anything wrong with

Just got back from seeing Jeepers
Creepers.
Although the story was a bit hard to swollow (the
brother and sister team) wanting to back to investagate the tunnel was
like...ARE YOU CRAZY!!!. I thought it was a pretty outstanding movie though.
Right up there with the Texas Chainsaw cult films. Not that I'm a fan of Texas
Chainsaw but it was a very scary filck and well made.
14 weeks and a half Brian??
Man, the makeup was awesome! beyond the shadow of a
doubt! Much better than that bozo the clown they used in the phantom menace.
Darth Mual?
And that Demon will kick Darth Mual's ass up
and down the Tatooine landscape! But as for SIR GENERAL THADE....too close to
call. :o)
Really Brian you did an outstnading job....and if
it wasn't for Rick Baker I'd say they should give you an oscar! (just being
truthful)
I was at Suncoast Video Jeff and picked up my
PLANET OF THE APES WALL CLOCK! Great! and %25 off...last one left so thanks so
much bud!
I was getting tiered of that damn Miami Dolphin
Colck I had. (the circle is now complete) Darth Vador spoof. :o)
Enjoy Labor Day everyone.

perhaps there might be a Planet of the Apes spoof in there
