Thanks Dave. Lemme know how much I
owe you and if there's any good 'ol American mags you want. You get "Starlog"?
There's a Natalie interview with my picture in it (the one on the
beach).
Also: I told Joe Russo that there's
excerpts from his book "POTA Revisited" in it and he wants a copy. Would you be
willing to pick him up a copy? Or would you like to talk to him about it (a
trade or something?).

Is that all the Stars?
No, as many as I can get.
It's about 7 Talk shows. Regis, Leno, Conan, Daily
show, Letterman and that show that appears after Letterman. Some have two guests
from these shows.
Also a talk show from Canada from
Kurt.
Only the stars that did the Talk
shows.
Best,
Al

.html Sorry about the delay on this. What with classes starting last week and
everything. But at last, without further adieu, from Kim Hunter's
autobiographical cookbook, Loose in the Kitchen . . .
Here is, The Dog-shit Story . . .
And I didn't really have to cook for Stanley. The food for Blanche's
birthday party in Scene Eight was cooked by Moe Jacob's wife. Moe was our
property master.
One night, though, Moe must have gotten the fried chicken somewhere
else, and it was badly undercooked. Marlon Brando still had to dive in and
"make a pig of himself," devouring it with great savor and gusto. I don't
know how he got through it.
After the curtain calls he was furious, and didn't care who knew it. He
cursed out the whole backstage crew.
"Stupid bastards! How'd you like to be stuck out there eating a
God-damned raw chicken?! I'd rather eat dog-shit!"
Well, the next night in Scene Eight Marlon picked up his napkin and
guess what was on his plate. That's right. One of those doodoos from the
joke store. Given his infallible sense of truth, Marlon's accusing eyes went
directly to me. I had prepared the meal, right? I thought I would die.
And Jessica Tandy's opening line was, "I don't know what's the matter,
we're all so Solomon." From there on we played the whole scene not daring to
look at each other.
We never had trouble with the chicken again, but that rotten dog turd
kept turning up for days . . . in Blanche's trunk, behind the radio, under a
pillow . . . one never knew. <.html

Better get those on one of those
tapes!
Yeah, I'm still working on the tapes. And
everything will be up to date.
The view with Tim Roth was good Jeff but the Tim
Roth one with Conan O'Brian was even better. The tapes will be a total of
about 4 so the cost between Tapes, Shipping and time I'll keep it down to
$10 a tape. With $5 for priority 2-3 day shipping (no matter how many tapes).
Overseas may run an extra $5 more.
Each Tape will have a list posted on the site for
each content on the tape.
But as far as price goes that's about as fair as I
can be about it. Because it's not only Time, Cost and Shipping but also wear and
tear on the VCR making copy after Copy. And what ever I have left, it will go to
continue improving the site.
But all will be posted on the site come mid to end
September.
That's why at this moment the site is not yet
complete, I'm trying to finish this off first. But things will pop up on the
site from time to time.
Best.

Then we also have:
No, young apprentice...
In the movie (which to me takes
precedence over other sources) Mandemus says 27 years, plus whatever
length of time it took to get him into the armory. Marvel magazine said
"Battle" took place in 2001 and others have co-opted it, including Fox's
"official" chronology. But NO!

Then how old would that make Caesar and Aldo?
Wouldn't they like be in their fifties or maybe even sixties by

Now, it just so happens that there's a certain someone on
this list who's written a timeline that accounts for ALL of the discrepancies
(without any black hole or alternate universe theories) and addresses every POTA
series (movie, TV, comic) so far (except the Burton travesty) that was supposed
to be published in a certain book but wasn't because Fox nixed it's inclusion.
If there were some website to present it on where any fan who wanted
to could read and appreciate it, said author would be more than happy to present
the timeline. And Alex, Dave, Mark, and Terry can back me up on the detail that
went into the project. :-)

Two things to respond to here. First, I've always
felt that both "How did the Bomb get to... (St. Patrick's Cathedral/Kolp's
Armory) questions were stories that haven't yet been told. They tried to
address it in the Marvel timeline, but that goes under the assumption that the
Apes saga is circular, and, as it turns out, it's not (cryptic reference to my
timeline there). Secondly, I think it would be fairly obvious why the
Government would keep the existence of a weapon like that a State Secret, but
it's not much of a stretch to think that Kolp had access to that kind of
information, Hell, Taylor knew of it's existence (one draft of the shooting
script for Beneath even made a reference to Taylor being briefed on the
bombs existence). And that makes sense too. The brass probably said
something like "Oh yeah, if you make it back to Earth and the planet happens
not to be there...".

The only location
flaw in the film series is Brent going into a subway station that's in

the first film Ape City is way south of New York. Why?
Because they traveled east to the Atlantic to get the Cornelius'
cave on the shore, then Taylor rode north and found the Statue of Liberty.
After that he rode further north to get captured by the mutants.
Well, if you can believe that part of NYC stayed
intact and ended up underground, you can believe that partial land masses
melted and fused back together as they sunk beneath the surface. And for the
most part, Brent's trip through the underground NYC is fairly accurate as far
as the grouping of landmarks are concerned (save for the New York Stock
Exchange). Radio City, St. Patrick's Cathedral, and the New York Public
Library are all within shooting distance of each other. As for the Stock
Exchange, you could explain it away any number of ways. The building could've
moved, or Brent and Nova's trek could've been much longer than the film
indicated. I don't know where Queensborough Plaza is in relation to Manhattan,
but I'm pretty sure it's all connected by subway. Heck, Brent and Nova could
have even trekked all the way from Queens to Manhattan for all we know. But
there's always been an underlying presumption that land masses has somewhat
shifted over the course of time. Remember, the Statue of Liberty certainly
wasn't on Ellis Island anymore.

I think that part of the problem is
that people see ESCAPE/CONQUEST/BATTLE as one big story arc, and Escape is
clearly established in Los Angeles so you presume that CONQUEST and BATTLE
take place in the same vicinity (plus I think Marvel once said something about
those two movies taking place on the West Coast). I just know that
somewhere in the movies/novelizations/comic adaptations there's a clue as to
where the stories take place, some tiny little throwaway hint.

Given the amount of "care" that Fox takes with products relating to classic
PotA, does anyone really give two hoots what their idea of an "official"

Okay, first of all I like to think that the moon was destroyed by some
God-awful bomb, and that's why the astronauts in PLANET could see no moon
during their trek. Also mentioned was a strange luminosity at night, which I
would attribute to the remnates of the moon, small chunks of rock, circling
the earth as debris. However, a great deal of the moon would have hit the
earth as "a storm of meteors," as Taylor supposes in PLANET to explain the
state of The Forbidden Zone. Clearly a nuclear war alone couldn't account
for what we see the earth looking like in a mere two thousand years. A storm
of meteors would also explain how geography could have become "shifted."
Now, why don't we see a much more devastated earth in BATTLE? Simply because
it wasn't in the budget -- live with it.
And for the information of all. . . Queensborough Plaza is in Queens on Long
Island. It's east of Manhattan AND IT'S NOT A SUBWAY STATION! The makers of
BENEATH were very sloppy indeed. They got their geography wrong and their
dates, too (3978 vs. 3955). In PLANET the 'dead sea' that Taylor's ship
crash lands into is the remains of Cheapeake Bay. Look at a map of it, then
look at Cornelius' map in PLANET and you'll see I'm right. Cornelius simply
has the Atlantic in the south rather than the east on his map. Therefore,
according to Cornelius' map, Ape City is someplace in southern Virginia!
Now, how Brent ecapes from Ape City in Virginia and walks into a subway
station on Long Island is beyond me. One way I explain it is that Paul Dehn
was an Englishman, what did he know of the U.S.? How do I deal with it? I
don't. I just forget about it and watch the movie -- a sloppy sequel!

Yes, look at the range his character demonstrated... there was anger, there
was, er, more anger... and then a bit of anger. Not quite up there with the
originals really!
Enjoyable villain though.

I don't accept the ramblings of someone hired to write a novelization. I look toward the internal logic (for lack of a better term in this case) of the films as they are. Agreed. Nothing you won't see on the DVD

Just about everything and anything now seen on

Yeah, it wasn't the full half hour. Only about 15 minutes was Apes and much
of that was taken from the same interviews that are on every other Apes
special. It's not like they don't repeat them. Seems like they show the
same five shows over and over. Now they can make it an even half dozen. If
you want the few tidbits it offered I'm sure Alex has tapes. <.html

The new "Entertainment Weekly" has
an appreciation of Pauline Kael ("Harry Potter" on the cover). It's pretty good,
by their resident movie critic Owen Glieberman (one of my favorites today).
Titled "The Lights Go Down on America's Greatest Movie Critic" (see, Chris?),
Owen says , "a movie, regardless of how terrible or how great, simply wasn't a
complete experience until you read Pauline Kael's review of it". I didn't
realize she started working at "The New Yorker" in '68, the same year as the
first "Apes". She was there 22 years.
Owen: "It's fitting, in a sad way, that a
world without Pauline Kael may now be a world without movies worthy of the
reverence she brought to reviewing. How would she have appraised the summer of
2001? Probably not highly. Then again, the essence of Pauline is that she never
stopped surprising you, or herself. She'd love what you predicted she'd hate,
and vice versa. Even when you violently disagreed with her, she brought you
closer to the experience of watching a movie, closer to the connection between
movies and life, thanall of the reviewers you agreed with. That's not just a
critic; that's an artist - a true voice".

Hows the box office this weekend?
Last time "Apes" was $2 million behind "Jurassic Park" in
the U.S. Has the gap closed?

Drive-In
CBS Sunday Morning today had a segment
about the history of the drive-in theatre and how they are going through
a small revival now (there's about 500 drive-ins left, and the teenagers
are re-discovering them). At the beginning of the segment,
talking about the drive-ins' past, they showed that shot of the drive-in
marquee in '68 with "Planet of the Apes" and "One Million
Years BC" on a double-bill (we've had it posted here). Then
at the end they showed people at one of the last drive-ins in L.A. (I
can't remember the name of it) watching the new "Planet of the
Apes." The segment's final shot was a wide shot of the
drive-in with the new film's APES main title logo fading in and out on
the screen. It was pretty cool.

I wouldn't count on it. Muscatel, 2 Can Pay,
and Schlock Star knocked everyone down.
Last weekend it was hovering under $177M.
Over the week Apes climbed up to the # 10 spot
with a Thursday total of $164,136. That number is correct.
Less than a quarter mil. Now, I can't even find it in top 15!
If anyone has a good site with up-to-date numbers please post it!
I don't even know if it's in the top 20! If you want to see it again,
do it now. It's slipping fast. <.html

No, he cried because it was sad. The ending of "Braveheart" is sad. Now,
let's get back to APES. When a Scotsman in this group admits he's never seen
"Braveheart," well then I guess the Scots are becoming Americanized.

Don't want to have any conflicting coverage

Two weeks in advance because I know a few
retailers that would do me the favor. But it is the official release, nothing
less.
Tapes of T.V. coverages of POTA 2001. I'll
be selling them as collector Items for those interested. But don't want anything
on the tapes that would be found on the DVD features. That way there's no
conflict between my tapes and FOX's DVD.

wanted to they could do a really good 5.1 Dolby Digital remix of the
sound, but anyway. . . .
How are you getting the TV series DVD
two weeks in advance? And what are you talking about with these
tapes you'll be selling? Do you mean the VHS of the new movie?!!!
I think Fox will at first be selling those at around $100 each
(Priced for rental, you know!)

Terry has a rarities tape.
The quality isn't so great on some items, but well worth a look. <.html

.htmlThanks, Shelby!
Hey, how long have you guys known this was available for pre-order? I
did a check just last Thursday night at the DVD sites I know of and
didn't even see it listed anywhere as a future release. Tell me my
eyesight is worse than I thought.... /Mez

Rory! Pay
attention!
Alex has catalogued all the
specials, talk shows, etc. that covered the movie and is offering it to us. I
think it's a splendid idea. When he gets around to Classic "Apes" I've got
stuff to contribute.

Just kidding
gang, I really do like the T.V. series.
I'll be
getting mine about two weeks in advance so I'll give you guys the
details. As for the 2001 release on November 27th, if
that holds I'll wait till then before offering the tapes on my site.
That way I'll only have exclusive stuff on the tapes not found on the
DVD. Don't want to have any conflicting coverage
with the DVD.
Best. Al
P.S. Alright, now that
we'll have the T.V. Series on DVD, lets all get together and get a new
cartoon series on Television based on Tim Burton's Planet of the
Apes. Okay Rory, you lead the march to FOX Studios
with pickit signs and we'll all meet you there later. :o)

.htmlThe movie seemed like one of those chopped up messes that run 90 minutes,
but it's a full 2 hours, the longest "Ape" movie ever.

Mark Wahlberg's new flick "Rock
Star" debuted at #3 with 6.18 million. So who decided he was a big star who
should get his name above the title on his previous picture? Judging from the
opening weekend, "Apes" was the star.
