It's been a good year?!!! Well, even though it was a disappointment it was nice to see "Apes" in stores and comic shops and on DVD. We fans have a lot to be thankful for this month. Quality-wise we're in the same boat as "Star Wars" fans and they haven't given up hope.                              - - - - Jeff

ALL THEY NEEDED WAS 3 FREAKEN OUTS!
3 FREAKEN OUTS!

Yeah, the Yankee's could have won the pennant...again.
Kim Hunter could have invited me to spend the holidays with her.
Tim Burton's Planet of the Apes could have been a really great film.
When these things happen I'll know I've died and gone to heaven.
Except for the Yankees, they can't win every year!  Give someone else a turn.
But since I live on earth for now I'll just be happy with what I've got.
It's been a good year.

Where's the Medicoms? I was going to go back to Walmart and break down,
because they were down to six buck, and they were gone! There were a few
talking Attars left and that was it. And I don't mean they got bought up. I
don't mind that much...they sucked!

I liked the figures, as Hasbro figures go, but they were too expensive. I
really think they blew it not putting out the 2nd wave first. Those are more
interesting. But now it looks like stores aren't going to take a chance on
them. The 12" Attar (not the talking one) is one of my all-time favorite
"Apes" figures, period. But I wouldn't spend the dough on Medicom versions
of this movie. I still don't have all the ones I want from the original
flicks. - - - Jeff

By the way, after reading all the comments about Jar-Jar and Episode 1, I found much of the DVD very silly indeed and I hate Binks now.  Thanks a lot guys!  At least I enjoyed it the first 10 times.........and it is still great to watch my kids watching it (they just love Jar-Jar, so hopefullt he won't die a violent death in the first 5 minutes of Episode 2 or my kids will cry!!!).

Is that a banana or are you pleased to see me?

"I loathe and detest bananas young man!"

I really am concerned about what borderline beastiality may come from this movie, but I will certainly have to view in order to have an opinion!

Good lord, what if they jump around as in POTA 2001 - that would make for some interesting foreplay!

Yeah - now how hard would it have been to have filmed/not deleted that scene
and to have explained everything? Well at least it was in the script so
that makes me happier!

It'll be a good life lesson for them, that no one lives forever.  And Jar Jar is just too stupid to live.  For the good of the series he has got to go.  Okay maybe don't bump him off, but they could encase him in carbonite for the next couple of films, at least!

Jar-Jar report: What I understand is that Jar-Jar will be a background character in this one and won't be comic relief. This comes from Anthony Daniels (C-3PO). By the way, the guy who plays Jar-Jar had a major car accident before filming started so that may have curtailed things too.

The DVD is for the extras, not the movie itself. Silly boy.

It'll be a good life lesson for them, that no one lives forever.  And Jar Jar is just too stupid to live.  For the good of the series he has got to go.  Okay maybe don't bump him off, but they could encase him in carbonite for the next couple of films, at least!

I pass on that Matt.
Running a POTA countdown site really spoiled it for me the last time around. This time I'm laying low on spoilers. I will be running a small SW site in my POTA site, but just images, trailers, soundbytes and T.V. Spots. Nothing as big as my POTA countdown site, just a little something.
Although I already know the reason why he turns, I know for a fact that it won't occur until Episode 3. So I'm trying to stay away from any spoilers on Episode 2.

Thanks anyway.

I think it is this and because Palpatine threatens to hurt those close to him.  And don't forget he is made part machine - a bit like the Borg.

The recurring threat is "There is much fear in him".  That is the most common reason his training is not approved.  i think Palpatine will use this fear and the easiest way is to threaten his mother and of course the princess when they are wed.  I also think the Emperor's final clincher is to threaten the unborn child (which turns out as twins - leia and Luke).  I think this is when he feels he cannot sacrifice them and he must turn in order to protect them.

Anyway, it will be nice to find out.  I am guessing we will not fully know until Episode 3 - Ep 2 will be incomplete as was Ep 5 (leaving Han frozen and unfinished business).

Just a guess, I'm hopeing.
Like I said, I wouldn't like to spoil it for myself. But it does tie in with Anakin's feelings for his mother as Yoda made it very clear in Episode 1. And Obi-Wan in Episode IV.

"Vador helped the emporor hunt down and destroy the Jedi Knights".

Remember that the Repulic has no control over Tatooine. And therefore the Jedi Council can not help Anakin in his quest to free his mother and the slaves.
I smell MAJOR VENGANCE after his mother's death!

Thanks, Alex. I couldn't get through on the official site so I downloaded from you. Looks interesting, less razzle dazzle than the trailers for #1. "Empire Strikes Back" was the best from the original trilogy and since this is the middle film again I have hope. I don't like stories tied up with a bow. No sign of Jar Jaar but what's up with Watto? Is he on drugs?

Oops, too much "Star Wars". Let's get this thing back on track. "Cornelius". There.

I saw it on e-bay. Someone was preselling the DVDs. It's Urko and some

Except that "X-Files" is a TV series and they have enough to do. Probably they are planning the movie for the end of the series. I have a feeling they will move quickly on "Apes" or not at all. Maybe after the DVD numbers come in.

The important thing is to figure out how to fit "Star Wars" into the "Ape"
chronology. That way we can talk about it. The way I see it, Tatooine is
actually Earth and Luke Skywalker actually lives in the Forbidden Zone. But
he didn't know Taylor. Good poster, Alex. Sell some.

Well, I WAS going to tell you some great "Star Wars" news but you don't deserve it. Instead I'll say that www.dvdfile.com has their review of the "Apes" DVD up (mixed review on the flick, another lovefest about the DVD quality). But it looks like they put up the menu for the TV show set by accident. It actually the 30th Ann. image again, Taylor in front of the statue! I don't remember that on the TV show. The packaging for that set is getting loonier by the day.

Yeah, I leaped before I looked. Taylor isn't in front of the statue. But it looked like a rushed menu to me, not much creativity. I wish someone would review the TV set. The extras on the Burton set look awe-inspiring.

      What's the "DVD exclusive' ?

Episode 1 DVD has a link to the DVD site. (only for those who have bought the DVD and have a DVD-rom)
Well, anyhow the exclusive is the second Episode II Trailer due out today the 8th or tomorrow the 9th. (a full two minute trailer) Only for those who log on through the DVD web link. Aint that a shit.

Well, anyway, another trailer (trailer 3) will be released during Harry Potter (or whatever the hell his name is) when released this month as they did with Monster Inc. A total of 3 movie trialers in the month of November. And yet, still 7 months away til release.

.html I have both the U.S and Aussie movie DVD box sets ( call me Ape-greedy). The Aussie box only just came out this week. The packaging is more compact in that it is a 'digi-pac' ( like the X-Files DVD box sets ) instead of the 6 individual discs in one outer box. Although the menus are animated, they aren't AS animated as the U.S versions but use the same basic art. Region 4 and 2 discs are often compromised in space due to the myriad of European sub-titles that take up valuable disc space. The booklet is basically a compilation of the individual leaflets from the U.S discs. The video game trailer is not included. So, there you go.
      Best,
      KEN

Well, I WAS going to tell you some great "Star Wars" news but you don't deserve it. Instead I'll say that www.dvdfile.com has their review of the "Apes" DVD up (mixed review on the flick, another lovefest about the DVD quality). But it looks like they put up the menu for the TV show set by accident. It actually the 30th Ann. image again, Taylor in front of the statue! I don't remember that on the TV show. The packaging for that set is getting loonier by the day.                                                          - - - Jeff

Filming of this opus is going on right now. My sources tell me that Veetus
(aka Dr. Cornholeous) is so excited about the APES DVDs 'coming' out soon
that he's making a bundle with one money shot after another!

He he said here he wasn't excited!

      Hi All,

Since you have been so well behaved recently I have taken a couple of hours to scan the new DVD box as released Down Under.

First, there is the outer box that houses the folding "booklet" containing the discs.  This is unclear but it is the obligatory Liberty shot with Heston beating the sand.  The logo is a nice raised silver:

Then when you remove the DVD "booklet" there is this - a "raised" photo of Roddy.  I have included a scan of the fold out and a close up so you can see all the ridges!

The other side of the fold out has this great shot from Battle:

Then you fold out and get the DVDs themselves.  Here is Planet and Beneath:

Here is Escape and Conquest (there's that gorilla from the TV show I mentioned - when I mentioned it I thought this was on the Battle DVD but it is on the Conquest):

And here is the Battle/Behind DVDs.  Here I have removed the Battle DVD so you can see the picture is there behind where the DVD goes:

So I hope this makes up a little for all the Star Wars talk!!!

Thanks Michael. The "Conquest" gorilla is the same one that represents the U.S. version. I don't think that's a white stripe, it's his bandolier. Still, they didn't wear that in "Conquest". They should have switched with Caesar on "Beneath". That would've made more sense.

Judging from commercials, the "Battle" siloquettes were supposed to be on the U.S. box set too, but they put Taylor and the statue on both sides. But I love the raised Caesar image. I guess we got the better deal with individual boxes though.

Is this the same for you folks in the U.K? Any other TV spots?

Ricardo Montalban has been absent from the screen thanks to a severe back problem. But it's been announced that he's been cast in "Spy Kids 2". Hopefully this is a stepping stone to being cast in "Apes" 2. I'd like that.

Well, the POTA DVD will face stiff competition. Records are being set
almost weekly. "Mummy Returns" sold a record 2 million copies it's first
week, then "Episode 1" sold 2.2 million it's first week; now "Shrek" has
sold 2.5 million it's first 3 DAYS. But note "Shrek" was released on Friday
not Tuesday so obviously the weekend is the bread and butter for sales (it's
been admitted that "Shrek" was released on Friday specifically to screw up
the opening box office of "Monster Inc." - - - it didn't work. MI made
what, $62 million? Still didn't beat record holder "Apes" but a big opening
nonetheless). Movies are doing incredible business during these rough
economic times. With all the buzz about the features on the "Ape" disc I'm
        sure it will do well.

Yeah, half my directors class went to see Monsters Inc. including the professor.  He went the one of the theaters with the new digital projectors, which he said was fine, except for the titles, particularly the titles during the previews.  He said there were a lot of digital artifacts on the trailer titles.  I'm guessing that there was rastering on the edges.  So DV is better but not there yet.  I doubt it'll ever be as good as film, but it'll be close enough to be usable.  He did say they played the Star Wars trailer, sorry to bring SW up again, but he said he hopes they have plenty more time to work on it.  He was not impressed.

Hey, someone gave me a Burton POTA T-shirt for my birthday. Isn't it funny that they used that early makeup everybody hated for the garments and posters? No wonder they're having trouble selling that stuff.

Here's a review of the new DVD by a guy who liked the film. As usual, he thinks the DVD is top notch, which seems to be the general consensus. Gives details about the extras. http://www.dvdtalk.com/

That's a good price they offer, too.  $17.94.

www.dvdfile.com has an article about the promo for Fox DVD on the "Apes" disc. Those who have bought previous Fox DVDs are probably familiar with it (the tag is "Get Into It" and has clips from "X-Men", "Abyss", "Independence Day", etc.). Apparantly Fox hasn't changed it in over a year and the site is complaining about it. Sounds weird, but I was hoping they'd have done a new one by now, incorporating "Apes". I get a rush from those corporate montages and a new one would've been cool. Oh well, that's one strike against the DVD.                       - - - Jeff
