Yeah, I'll take it. If nothing else it might make for a nice pair of coasters.
By the way, let me clue you in about "Mr. Haristas," in case you've forgotten.
"La Planete des singes" Chapter 22, paragraph 11.
"I have mentioned the sort of works the orangutans produce. The unfortunate thing is, as Zira frequently deplores, they thus write all the educational books, propagating grotesque errors among simian youth. Not long ago, she assures me, these school textbooks still stated that the planet Soror was the center of the world, although this heresy had been rejected long before by every ape of even mediocre intelligence; and the only reason for this was that there once existed on Soror, thousands of years ago, an ape of considerable authority called Haristas who held such beliefs and whose dogmas have been repeated by the orangutans ever since. It is easier to understand Zira's attitude toward me now that I have learned that this Haristas believed that apes alone can have a soul. The chimpanzees, fortunately, have a far more critical mind. In the last few years, it seems, they have embarked on a regular campaign to desparage the old idol's
axioms."
If you want to give the movie's Lawgiver a name, I would say it's Haristas.

Thanks, JoAndra, but it's just that these guys in the group are so jealous of me they can't stand it. I just know more about POTA than any of them and they hate me for it, but I long ago got used to their insults. What else can you expect from humans, especially those Aussies?!!
Oh, by the way, JoAndra, today I mailed to you the VHS copy I made of the Roddy McDowall interview from the "Behind the POTA" S.E. DVD. Yes!! That's right, you jealous guys, the DVD has no copyguard on it, and I'm turning into Alex -- a bootlegger!!!

the group are so jealous of me they can't stand it. I just know more
about POTA than any of them and they hate me for it, but I long ago got used

Aussies?!!
Oh, by the way, JoAndra, today I mailed to you the VHS copy

Yes, but what about Veetus? Boulle, Ch.24,
paragraph 9:
Cornelius could see that scallywag Veetus
approaching. He seemed to show up at only the best parties. Quicker than a
jackal, this Veetus fellow sidled up to Zira and copped a feel. He was gone
before Cornelius could intercept him. This was old news anyway and, besides,
Zira seemed to enjoy it. But that's as far as it would go; Zira would never
betray her fiancee, not even with Ulysse.
See? You're not the only one who reads,
Rory.

Yeah, I'll take it. If nothing else it might make
for a nice pair of coasters.
By the way, let me clue you in about "Mr.
Haristas," in case you've forgotten.
"La Planete des singes"
Chapter 22, paragraph 11.
"I have mentioned the sort of works
the orangutans produce. The unfortunate thing is, as Zira frequently
deplores, they thus write all the educational books, propagating grotesque
errors among simian youth. Not long ago, she assures me, these school
textbooks still stated that the planet Soror was the center of the world,
although this heresy had been rejected long before by every ape of even
mediocre intelligence; and the only reason for this was that there once
existed on Soror, thousands of years ago, an ape of considerable authority
called Haristas who held such beliefs and whose dogmas have been repeated by
the orangutans ever since. It is easier to understand Zira's attitude
toward me now that I have learned that this Haristas believed that apes alone
can have a soul. The chimpanzees, fortunately, have a far more critical
mind. In the last few years, it seems, they have embarked on a regular
campaign to desparage the old idol's axioms."
If you want to give the
movie's Lawgiver a name, I would say it's Haristas.

I've bought 2 already, at reduced prices, of course. I don't spend more than

Yep, have a great birthday. You see, that's the shirt I didn't want. I saw

I just got the new Director's Edition of "Star Trek: the Motion Picture" on DVD. I haven't watched much of it, but one thing I did view and listen to was the commentary track during the overture. I had a hunch it might be Jerry Goldsmith talking and it was. And what's the first SF movie he mentions? "Planet of the Apes" of course, and how avant-garde the score was, and how the 'director' encouraged him to be as far-out with it as he wanted. Goldsmith ends by telling how his approach with Star Trek was to write more romantic music -- "The complete opposite of 'Planet of the Apes,'" he says. Pretty cool.
I do hope that Fox gets around to doing a Five-Star Edition of PLANET so that hopefully we can get some Goldsmith comments on APES before Jerry's no longer with us. Please hurry Fox, the guy's over 70!

watching the film. Memories get jogged that way. They could show the film to
them separately and then use the best comments. I'm sure Heston is pretty
Aped-out. The alternative is an Eric Greene vs. Rory
track.

.html .htmlOkay, if I was in charge at Fox this is how I would 'direct' a commentary track for PLANET. I would first try to get the cooperation of Heston, Kim Hunter, Mort Abrahams, Natalie Trundy, William Creber, Linda Harrison, Lou Wagner, Buck Kartalian, and Jerry Goldsmith. I would also lift stuff that's already been recorded from Roddy McDowall and John Chambers.
From Heston I'd try not to have him just repeat what's been said before, but as he watches the movie try to get him to talf about Frank Schaffner, their history together, their working relationship, and their choices on this film. From Hunter I'd get her to talking about just the daily effort of working in the makeup and doing this scene or that with McDowall. I'd drop in previous comments from McDowall during Hunter's reminiscences. (Remember, McDowall was just a co-star on PLANET, which is essentially a Heston flick.)
From Mort Abrahams I'd like mostly just to hear an insider history of the pre-production, especially how the script developed and what it was each writer, including the mysterious John T. Kelley, brought to the story. I'd also like to hear Abrahams' remembrances of Jacobs, and at that point I'd drop in some comments from Trundy.
From William Creber I'd like to hear as much as he can recall about the nuts and bolts of the production. Harrison, Wagner, and Kartalian could be used to fill in any gaps, hopefully with amusing stories. Hey, maybe we could even get some words from James Whitmore.
I'd used stuff that has already been recorded to get comments from Chambers, but I'd also try to get Rick Baker to 'guest comment' in order to 'flesh out' more details of the makeup. I wouldn't want to hear anything negative from Baker, though.
From Goldsmith I'd like to hear about his working relationship with Schaffner and his choices with the music, in fact Goldsmith would be on a second audio track so that each music cue could be isolated. That way you could get comments from Goldsmith then listen to what it was he composed for the film, then listen to Goldsmith again while you wait for the next cue.
It would be quite a project to construct such a thing and probably cost some bucks -- and that's why I don't think it'll ever happen, but for now it doesn't hurt to dream.
By the way, Joe Russo met with Ted Post at Post's house many years ago, and they watched BENEATH on VHS. Russo recorded the entire conversation they had while they watched the movie. I've listened to some of it, and it's mostly Post complaining how this and that should have been better. Some of it is funny.

Hi
Alex
I know
how you feel buddy. Your explanation was very clever and well thought out
- that's why I suspected it was nothing to do with the official version because
(as you now know) they are brain dead 3 year olds there!!!!
There
were MANY opportunities throughout for Burton (or whoever) to explain things
(like for example a scene at the beginning showing a "Noah's Ark" with
horses, birds etc so we know where they came from). I made the mistake of
thinking too much about the horse (is it actually Earth somehow?), and the
answer was simple - they did not think about it.
I know
Burton likes fairy tales, so you can probably expect Thade to kiss his dead
father in the sequel and cause him to wake up for another Heston cameo.
You know the best cameo I ever experienced - Maverick the movie. They
THOUGHT about it and let him be himself.
Oh
well. What a wasted opporyunity.

And how did the horse get on earth? It evolved here! Maybe that's just how life works. Just because they said it was uninhabited doesn't mean there was no life. Maybe they just meant no intelligent life. I think you do think too much . . . or maybe not enough. It would be a little ridiculous to have a planet with oxygen rich atmosphere and water and plant-life, but no animals. And in an environment so Earth-like there's no reason not to have Earth type animals filling the niches.

Don't lose hope, Alex. That's just some
webmaster's version of the end. Burton probably doesn't even know about it. If
they do a sequel it will be the real answer (though probably the same one, as I
said before, that's why they dwelled on the pods). But it's the "Escape"
principle; it doesn't matter how he got there as long as the sequel is
GOOD.

Already have lost hope, Jeff.
What they're telling us is, that Thade traveled back in time AND LEAD AN
APE REVOLT? Holy Bullshit, apes are too dumb to think, little lone
revolt.
If he had changed the course of evolution, then centuries later apes take
over. Hell yeah! That works. But Thade lead a revolt?
This is nothing but a kiddie movie, not that a kid would be so dumb enough
to believe it. Now that would really be insulting.
This movie, Jeff, will go down as the STUPIDEST movie in the history

Wait a minute here!!!! Have I been given a lobotomy? Is this Alex writing this, OR ME?!!! Have I traveled back in time and taken over the mind of Alex (in a revolt of his brain cells), or has Alex evolved into me? A planet where Alex evolves into Rory? There's got to be an answer. I better not look for it -- I may not like what I find!

Alex, I hope you're kidding. That website was
just written by some bozo, the same kind of bozo that put the statue on the

they could take over on Earth. The Oberon apes were Earth apes, their genetics
were tampered with. "Conquest" was a bit iffy, too. You gotta go with the

It doesn't add up, Jeff.
Even if Thade traveled back to the point where they just began to tamper
with Apes Geneticly, apes at that point were at the point of exstinction.
(according to Leo in the Movie) Point of exstinction vs. 6 billion humans
doesn't add up.
Hell, not even a nuclear war could help these apes.
Any further then that (backward) you have more apes, but dumber than
a door nob.
And if this is on the official web site, then there's no doubt Fox approved
it.
I'll leave the site up, hell, what choice do I have now. Calima5021 I'm
stuck with.
But as far as a sequel goes, they can countdown that sad excuse for an
ending without me. I won't touch it with a ten foot pole.

Maybe Thade went back in time to a period years after Leo disappeared, a time when, through the genetic re-engineering, ape populations on earth had soared, while at the same time the human population had dropped. This large population of apes weren't animals anymore, but something between animals and humans. The human population had to deal with them in some way, so in many countries they were laborers, household servants, even slaves. Into this world comes bad-ass Thade and when he sees what's going on he's more pissed than ever. He decides to do something about it.
Now I think I see what Fox may have in mind for a sequel -- a remake of CONQUEST! It actually has me interested. Take it easy, Alex. You're supposed to be the optimist. Look on the bright side --if this is what Fox has planned, APES may rule this planet. All is not lost.

So does this mean that the timeline of POTA 2001 is circular? Think about it,
if it wasn't for Leo going after Pericles and landing on the POTA, then Thade
never would have came back to Earth and started the revolt.

I think this all makes perfect since so
PLEASE hear me out...
On the site, it says is b/c of the storm
Thade arrives before Leo on Earth. Thade arrives around 2029 in which apes
are being genetically engineered. So after time he leads a rebellion of
apes (think Conquest and how they did it at the Oberon).
Then centuries later, Leo arrives on Earth
only to find it ruled by apes. The reason it all looks the same is because
the Apes could only CONSUME our technology.
I don't know about you guys but I think
this would make an awesome sequel and I truely like the ending HYPOTHESIS(as
stated on the official site).
ALSO from the official
site...
As interesting as Leo DavidsonÂ’s clothes were,
the most amazing discovery was not made until the winter of ThadeÂ’s
tyranny. An Ape Action Committee, led by Ari, the daughter of the high
ranking Senator Sandar, finally received Senate approval to dredge the Mauro Bog
in search of the so called ‘mythical’ spacecraft that Leo Davidson used to reach
our planet

The chimpanzee is more closely related to man than he is the gorilla! One way to look at ourselves is that we're human chimpanzees, or that we are the human great apes. In fact, we are -- apes.

point were at the point of exstinction. (according to Leo in the Movie)
Point of exstinction vs. 6 billion humans doesn't add up. Hell, not even
a nuclear war could help these apes.
Any further then that
(backward) you have more apes, but dumber than a door nob. And if this
is on the official web site, then there's no doubt Fox approved it. I'll
leave the site up, hell, what choice do I have now. Calima5021 I'm stuck
with. But as far as a sequel goes, they can countdown that sad excuse
for an ending without me. I won't touch it with a ten foot pole.
Jesus Christ! Even the creation of Jar Jar binks was more cleaver
than this crap! Jesus Christ, I'm in Jar Jar hell!
Oh, man!
Best. Al
Maybe Thade went back in
time to a period years after Leo disappeared, a time when, through the genetic
re-engineering, ape populations on earth had soared, while at the same
time the human population had dropped. This large population of apes
weren't animals anymore, but something between animals and humans. The
human population had to deal with them in some way, so in many countries they
were laborers, household servants, even slaves. Into this world comes
bad-ass Thade and when he sees what's going on he's more pissed than ever.
He decides to do something about it.
Now I think I see what Fox
may have in mind for a sequel -- a remake of CONQUEST! It actually
has me interested. Take it easy, Alex. You're supposed to be the
optimist. Look on the bright side --if this is what Fox has planned,
APES may rule this planet. All is not lost.

Good idea. Heston might not be one for coming up with new stories very often
(but then he has probably spoken about it countless times, it's difficult to
say much that's new) but perhaps if he was actually sitting down watching
the film as he spoke it might jog his memory a bit.

Yeah, I'd love to hear this. A good example is the commentary track by
Elfman on Edward Scissor hands - an entire audio track consisting solely of
the music and Elfman's commentary. Something like this for Planet of the
Apes would be fantasic.

Yep, I think it's little more than wishful thinking. However, if you'd
mentioned to me ten years ago that all (or nearly all) of the PotA
soundtracks would be available on CD, there'd be a PotA computer game, and
that someone would make a PotA documentary over two hours in length, I'd
probably have said the same thing.

There we are, a ready-made commentary for Beneath too - and Rosenman's still
around, too! More wishful thinking...

Hey, has anyone seen any commercials for the POTA 2001 on DVD and video yet? What happened to Fox spending $10 Million to promote it? I'm seeing commercials for "The Grinch" coming out on November 20th. Fox better get there act together, otherwise the sales won't be that great for APES and a sequel that less likely.

Now I know how Burton felt towards Fox after making Planet of the
Apes.
But in the end, you can't fight city hall. And so, at least something was
done for Apes after so many years. And even though I still feel that this
explanation for a sequel is at a sub-childish level, what the hell. Go with the
flow.

Yeah, I just checked out a fox site. It barely mentioned Ape only in passing, citing that they had always had luck with sequels, squeezed in between the Sherlock Homes and Omen and Alien franchises. They didn't seem too proud of the Series that saved their asses. I'll be working on the screenplay next month after the end of the semester. AVOID GETTING THE NEW WINDOWS XP!

Half the software and hardware I have that

Thank God this XP garbage came with my system.
Because $200 plus half your programs don't work?
It's a rip off! And if you do get it, be ready to
repurchase most of your software and hardware so that it could work
with WINDOWS XP. I guess 100 Billion Dollars is not enough for Bill Gates,
bloody bastard.
First POTA 2001, and now this? Oh Lord, where does

There's a review of the TV show DVDs at www.dvdangle.com . This guy loves the show
and calls it the "Holy Grail" of his collection but is disappointed by the
presentation. Apparently there are no TV commercials for the series, just an ad
for the "Evolution" box set and one for the Burton movie. In other words, zippo
extras. But perhaps that was the only way to keep the price down ( but face it,
if you want this series you'll be willing to pay $70; if you don't want it
you're not even going to pay $40. They might as well have went all
out).

I imagine they feel as though the family fortune was made selling urinal cakes.
But they've only themselves to blame. If they put more into the film perhaps they'd be more proud of them. I don't think they think much of their audiences. Otherwise they might have a studio tour. I tend to think of Fox as PT Barnum as played by WC Fields. Step right this way ladies and gentlemen, and see the talking monkeys, yes. Go away kid ya bother me.....

You'll also notice this reviewer isn't too crazy about the quality of the transfers, or the lack there of. I knew it would be like this. The original movie looked like shit on video right up to 1998! What else to expect from Fox!!

In 1892, the first professional football game was played in
Pittsburgh, between the Allegheny Athletic Association and
the Pittsburgh Athletic Club.
In 1941, the German army's drive to take Moscow was halted
on the city's outskirts in World War II.
In 1948, a war crimes tribunal in Japan sentenced former
premier Hideki Tojo and six other World War II Japanese
leaders to die by hanging.
In 1980, the Voyager-1 spacecraft passed Saturn.
In 1981, the shuttle Columbia became the first spacecraft
ever launched twice from Earth.
In 1982, former KGB chief Yuri Andropov succeeded the late
Leonid Brezhnev as general secretary of the Soviet Communist
Party.
Also in 1982, Polish authorities freed Solidarity founder
Lech Walesa after 11 months of internment.

Alex, I hope you're kidding. That website
was just written by some bozo, the same kind of bozo that put the statue on
the cover of the DVD. And anyway, if the apes could take over on the other
planet, they could take over on Earth. The Oberon apes were Earth apes, their
genetics were tampered with. "Conquest" was a bit iffy, too. You gotta go with
the flow.

Already have lost hope, Jeff. What they're telling us is,
that Thade traveled back in time AND LEAD AN APE REVOLT? Holy Bullshit,
apes are too dumb to think, little lone revolt.
If he had changed

That works. But Thade lead a revolt? This is nothing but a kiddie
movie, not that a kid would be so dumb enough to believe it. Now that
would really be insulting.
This movie, Jeff, will go down as the
STUPIDEST movie in the history of Hollywood. I CAN'T BELIEVE THIS!
I left a post in their forum under "movie ending" or whatever it
was titled. Posted by DarthThade, yours truly. FUCK THEM!
I
HATE THIS MOVE.

Wait a minute here!!!!
Have I been given a lobotomy? Is this Alex writing this,
OR ME?!!! Have I traveled back in time and taken over the mind
of Alex (in a revolt of his brain cells), or has Alex evolved into me?
A planet where Alex evolves into Rory? There's got to be
an answer. I better not look for it -- I may not like what I find!
Hey, guess what I did today? I pre-ordered Burton's POTA on
the net!!! Pray for me, Alex!!! I'm DEvolving!

Go to "About the Movie" then got to "Ape Insights".
Once there, click the center of the screen and then click "Thade's
Plot" and Thade's Earth".
Then go to "Discuss" (message forum) and tell them how stupid the plot
is.
Best.

It runs fine at this end. You may want to check

Although I don't mind it at all, the screenwriter
for the sequel may use an even more brilliant idea (like yours) to use for the
movie.

I sure hope so, because although the whole Conquest theory would be nice to
see, remember that if it wasn't for nuclear war, Caesar wouldn't of had a snow
balls chance in hell to rule the planet.
I just hope they're bright enough to know that.
This film has clearly gone from motion picture status, to comic book
status. In a very cometic way.
Best.
