Although I don't mind it at all, the screenwriter for the sequel may use an even more brilliant idea (like yours) to use for the movie.
I sure hope so, because although the whole Conquest theory would be nice to see, remember that if it wasn't for nuclear war, Caesar wouldn't of had a snow balls chance in hell to rule the planet.
I just hope they're bright enough to know that.
This film has clearly gone from motion picture status, to comic book status. In a very cometic way.
Best.

Hey Alex, where's your imagination? While the genetically-enhanced apes are breeding like rabbits, a genetically-enhanced virus could have been accidentally released, wiping out masses of humans, creating a labor shortage that would require the apes to be put to work. Into this world lands Thade, in a scene like the beginning of ESCAPE. Sounds good to me. I hope they get Tim Roth back to play it. It could be a real hoot!

Maybe it's an alternate Earth with a set up
more to Thade's advantage. The way they left off anything could happen, probably
why they did it. They didn't have time to think about it while they made the
movie.

Well, like Mike, I hope your right.
Check out this behind the scenes of POTA 2001,
(screen tests) I guess this will be on the DVD.
The music in the background is from Jerry Goldsmith
himself. Original Planet of the Apes Score.
The options are 56K 100K and 300K
Enjoy the music.
That's all I did.
Best.

Do you know the difference between an ape and a monkey? Ape: strong, fully built;
Monkey: tail, scrawny, thin built. We apes take offense to being called a monkey.

that would require the apes to be put to work. Into this world lands
Thade, in a scene like the beginning of ESCAPE. Sounds good to me.
I hope they get Tim Roth back to play it. It could be a real hoot!
-- Rory
Well, like Mike, I hope your right.
Check out this behind the scenes of POTA 2001,
(screen tests) I guess this will be on the DVD.
The music in the background is from Jerry
Goldsmith himself. Original Planet of the Apes Score.
The options are 56K 100K and 300K
Enjoy the music.
That's all I did.

It's not that at all
Rory.
It's just the fact that all films,
including Sci-Fi films, should always have a good amount of LOGIC too them. And
this sequel idea has no logic whatsoever. This idea of Thade hating Leo so much
that he chases him across the universe knowing that his planet is dominated by
humans, and that he has a snowball's chance in hell to find him, little lone
find vengence, is cometic.
Then he leads a revolt against 6
billion humans and wins, just puts the icing on the cake.
This is a comic book ending, no
more, no less. Jesus, even Star Wars has more LOGIC than this.
As for the DVD, I will buy it.
Because despite the fact that it does have a stupid ending. Everythig else
before it is great. I just won't waste my time watching the ending when
that time comes. As someone once told me, this could have been a pretty damn
good movie if it wasn't for the ending. There just wasn't any need for
it.
And now we know why no one
could figure out the ending. Because no one would have thought the
explanation would have been that stupid and unlogical.
Now, as I was the first to say I loved the movie
and being truthful about it, I will also be the first to say this ending is
totaly stupid and sub-childish. Why? Because I have no ego to brooze. Just being
honest as I always am.
Best.

Hey Alex, where's your
imagination? While the genetically-enhanced apes are breeding like
rabbits, a genetically-enhanced virus could have been accidentally released,
wiping out masses of humans, creating a labor shortage that would require the
apes to be put to work.
That's a pretty good concept.
The only problem with that would be, that that
remaining half of humans will still has massive weapons of War. Remember that
Leo was from the United States, not the United Planet. And I'm sure that Thade
would have his share of world leaders to deal with.
That's why the only logic to Planet of the Apes
was made quite clear in Caesar's closing speak in Conquest.
"When the Sea is a Dead Sea, and the Land is a
Waste Land."
Thade may be able to kick Caesar's
butt.
But Caesar was ten times smarter than Thade and
20th Century Fox! :o)

Alright, alright. It's all a con. I called
my good friend Richard Zanuck and told him to contact Internet Movie Database
and tell them there's going to be a sequel. The truth is Rich (yeah, his friends
call him Dick but his TRUE friends get to call him Rich) said Fox doesn't want a
sequel because they felt the artistic integrity was compromised with the last
one. In fact, the prez of Fox told Rich, "The originals are classics and I just
can't compromise them any more. There's more important things than money".
Instead Fox has announced a remake of "My Dinner With Andre". The truth is out
there.

For
those who could not get to it, here is what was written:
A Planet of the Apes sequel may be on the way in 2003.
IMDB reports:
Movie bosses are waiting until 2003 to release the next Planet
of the Apes flick - to ensure audiences are desperate to see it by the time
it arrives. The summer blockbuster, which starred Hollywood heart-throb Mark
Wahlberg and British beauty Helena Bonham Carter, will definitely have a
sequel, but bosses want the public to hunger for Ape action before it's
released. Producer Richard Zanuck says, "We don't want to rush the film
into theaters next year - we'd rather buy extra wanna-see time for the
sequel. Right now, we're tossing around ideas for the story. We want to take
our time and get it right." Wahlberg made a deal with Zanuck to make
two Planet of the Apes films, before signing up for the first picture.
This is certainly inconclusive and if you look at the other
headlines the same person has written, you will see aome major contradictions an
his claims.
I still believe there will be an apes 2003, but
this really does not tell us that decisively.

Pre-humanoids, not apes. The theory of evolution doesn't say we evolved
from apes, despite what some people mistakenly quote it as saying. It says
we and apes evolved from the same beginnings, which is why we're so
amazingly close to them genetically.

All I'm saying is that if deno lived for millions

How come man evolved higher than
deno.
And that can also be said for every other

JoAndra
JoAndra,
If you mean to say we evolved from apes, that's not exactly true. The orangutans, gorillas, chimpanzees and man share a common ape-like ancestor, but man did not evolve from the great apes as we know them. Jeff Krueger perhaps, but not us. :)

Yes, Adam and Eve, two ape-like creatures who lived in a garden in Africa about 4 to 6 Million years ago.

Orangs, Chimps and Gorillas haven't evolved much in the last four million years for the very simple reason that they didn't need to. They each found a comfortable niche and stayed there. Or better yet.
Why is man the only animal that evolved to the level where he can build and create?
I mean after all, we all did begin as little specks in a great ocean, right?
There are just somethings evolution can't explain. And that is why it's called a 'theory'.

All I'm saying is that if deno lived for millions of years, and man has only lived for hundereds of thousands of years. (as they say)
How come man evolved higher than deno.
And that can also be said for every other animal on earth for that matter.
Why? because it's a theory, nothing more, nothing less.
And that's the last I'll speak on this subject, because in the end. No one was there, so no one really knows.
Best.

Alex, I've rarely seen anyone as closed-minded and dismissive as you. Modern Man has only been around for the last forty thousand years or so, but our human ancestors have walked this planet for over four million years. Read a good book on the history of man, Al, like Richard E. Leakey's "Origins."

there's going to be a sequel. The truth is Rich (yeah, his friends call him

sequel because they felt the artistic integrity was compromised with the
last one. In fact, the prez of Fox told Rich, "The originals are classics
and I just can't compromise them any more. There's more important things
than money". Instead Fox has announced a remake of "My Dinner With Andre".
The truth is out there.
Hey Jeff, why so touchy? Don't you think
it's a little early to assume this is true? The Internet Moviebase as a

Yeah, and so is the Scientific law of "CAUSE AND
EFFECT". It's not only a fact but a law.
For every effect, there is a cause behind
it.
Fro example:
HOUSE = EFFECT
MAN = CAUSE
And so on and so on...
But when we look at earth, universe and man, and
we say. "evolution".
Why?
Because man has a great talent of contradicting
himself.
So much for facts.

Next February 8th is the 34rth anniversary
of the original "Apes" flick. It's also becoming a dumping station for movies.
The "Rollerball" remake was supposed to come out last summer but they decided it
wasn't good enough so they pushed it to Feb. 8. The remake of "The Time Machine"
was supposed to come out at Christmas but it's uncomfortable New York themes
have pushed it back to Feb. 8th. And now they've announced Sir Schwartenegger's
new one "Collatoral Damage" (which got pushed back because of terrorist themes)
will come out on F.8. Rarely has that date seen so much movie action since,
well, 34 years ago.

.htmlWe all know that "Apes" is the current record holder for three day
non-holiday weekend. But what's to become of it's record this weekend when
Harry Potter comes to town? It's opening on the most screens ever (7,000)
and people are predicting it will not only topple "Apes" but the all time
record holder "Jurassic Park 2". Please, enjoy it while you can. Call a
friend and say, "Did you know 'Planet of the Apes' had the biggest
non-holiday opening ever?" You'll be glad you did. Darkness is almost upon
us. - - - Jeff

I think it could be
true.
Because way back when epiosode 1 was being
created, there was word that episode 2 would be coming out in 2003. That's why
you see that after my countdown was finished, I went ahead with countdown to
2003.
But then removed it because no official word
was ever given. Just news on the web way back then.
But if it is 2003, I would think that they
would give word by now. Just to build up the hype for those who want to learn
how exactly Thade ruled the planet.

Well, we had it for a few months there. At least, when we fall they'll have
to mention us once more. I think even Titanic's record will sink after this
media blitz. The good news is most of the little bastards can't drive. The
bad news is a lot of them will have a parent take them. So that's double the

I think the OK is tentative while they
hammer out the script. They probably have the dough for a screenwriter and will
decide based on the result. That DVD review I mentioned yesterday (dvdangle.com)
said that Burton explained in his commentary that he knew where the ending is
leading and someone else will continue it, but he's got it mapped out. Sounds to
me that Burton might be back as a producer with someone else directing. I'm for
that. Burton can help shape the visuals but someone else can hopefully tell an
involving story. And if Burton's the producer, he's "back" and those actors
whose contracts said they'd return if Burton did are stuck. It's like the 3rd
"Batman' where Burton was a producing figurehead (and made some nice
dough).

Well I don't think that anything will sink the
Tatanic Box office, hell, even Lucas knew that right off the bat with episode 1.
As he stated in the documentary. But it will give episode 1, currently at number
2 a run for it's money.
I think if Harry Potter is fueled by anything, it
will be fueled by Star Wars episode 2 trailer.
Monster Inc. made 65 million at the box office in
it's opening weekend. Biggest opening for Disney yet. And I'm sure Lucas got a
good chunck of that.

.htmlThe "Apes" record is already getting mentioned. I saw it today in the
trades and movieheadlines.net (actually, that's what made me think of it. He
he he ). But if by some fluke of nature "Harry Potter" doesn't do as well as
they expect, "Apes" record will be that much more impressive (like "Star
Wars" Ep. 1 not beating "Titanic").
The review for the TV show DVDs is up at www.dvdfile.com . This guy didn't
like the show but thought the disc quality was fine. Compared Virdon and
Burke to Bo and Luke Duke - - - I'd always heard Starsky and Hutch. Either
way, V and B predate all of them! - - - Jeff

| Subject: CONQUEST script |
|
.html I recently purchased (from SCRIPTCITY) the screenplays for PLANET,
BENEATH (i.e. POTA REVISITED), ESCAPE and BATTLE (and about 8 of the
14 TV episodes)--but they don't carry the screenplay of CONQUEST for
some reason. I know that Eric Greene had access to a copy for his book
POTA AS AMERICAN MYTH (since he quotes directly from the screenplay),
but I don't quite know how to go about acquiring a copy. Does anybody
have a suggestion? SCRIPTCITY charges around $15 per script; if anyone
happens to have a copy (and, since it isn't currently being printed
anywhere, I assume the 'copyright' laws wouldn't kick in if someone
were to mail me a photocopied version in exchange for $15...?). If
whoever owns the copyright is reading this, hey, please drop me a line
at the address below, and sell me a copy!

Perhaps Mr. Greene himself has information regarding my possible
acquisition of said CONQUEST script? If so, please post here, or send
me a postcard.
P.S. I loved your book, Eric. Also agreed wholeheartedly with your
critique of Burton's "re-imagining". <.html

| Subject: POTA chronology |
|
.html I'm the guy who posted about the CONQUEST script. For those of you
who have APESFAN #2, I'm the guy who wrote an article for it entitled
"A Chronology of the POTA". For those of you who are interested, I
posted a number of times on a POTA/"ANSA" website (type in "ANSA",
"Hasslein" and "Icarus" on a Lycos search engine, and you'll find it),
doing my best to explain my scenario for "un-flubbing the flubs" of
POTA chronology (the guy who runs that website and I, well, we
vehemently disagree, to put it mildly).
I've been working on a POTA novel project for a number of years
(being a POTA fan from way back); I wanted to tell one humongous story
that uses all the filmed POTA movies & TV episodes as "canon",
basically novelizing PLANET and its 4 movie sequels as well as all 14
TV episodes (of course, this involves RE-adaptation: the existing
novelizations take liberties with their sources, and what appears on
screen is often not what we read in Avallone's BENEATH book, etc.).
The major hurdle for this project of mine was to find a way to
explain how Taylor could see his EARTH-TIME clock read 11-25-3978
after landing--yet Brent (and the "Ape-onauts") see it reading the
year 3955.
The bitter truth is that Paul Dehn flubbed. However...
Taking the chronological info from the TV series, I noticed that
Virdon's ship's EARTH-TIME clock clicks ahead from 08-19-1980 (19
August 1980) to 07-14-3085 (14 July 3085) in the opening credit
sequence... and yet the day after their landing (and also more than a
week later, at the episode's end) Virdon & Burke see the EARTH-TIME
clock frozen on the date 03-21-3085 (21 March 3085), which is 115
days EARLIER than the date given for the Time Warp from Present-to-
Future.
Since this Time Warp occurs when they approach Alpha Centauri, that
means that they also managed to be zipped along back to Earth 4.34
LightYears (after Jones activates the "Emergency Homing Device" that
Virdon tells Burke he'd ordered him to do).
By a happy coincidence, the ratio of "retro-temporal" time Virdon's
ship experiences (115 "retro-days") to Distance in LightYears
traveled (4.34) just so happens to match what Taylor's ship
experiences: Taylor tells Landon & Dodge that they were (as far as he
knew & believed) "320 LightYears from Earth on an unnamed planet in
orbit around a star in the constellation of Orion". Divide 320 by 4.34
and then multiply by 115 and you get 8479.26 "retro-days". Divide
8479.26 by 365.2422 and you get 23.215 "retro-years". Since noon of 25
November 3978 (a 365-day year) is exactly 9/10ths through the year,
subtract 23.215 from 3978.90 and you get 3955.685! In other words, if
the same sort of thing that happens to Virdon's ship (zipping "x"
number of LightYears in "y" number of "retro-temporal days") also
happens to Taylor's ship, then the actual EARTH-TIME date that Taylor
arrives is about the 251st day of 3955. Assuming, of course, that
Taylor's ship's EARTH-TIME clock fails to register the "back-thru-
time" jump it nonetheless experiences.
Anyway, when I happened to discover that convenient coincidence, I
proceeded to weave a scenario around it, and I'm using it in my on-
going magnum opus (I'm calling it "DESTINY OF THE PLANET OF THE
APES"). As I've said, the guy running the website mentioned above (he
calls himself "Ansanaut") disagrees with my scenario. Quite frankly,
he believes things about the APES series that are patently ridiculous
(he thinks that the stars Taylor sees out the front window of his
ship in PLANET's opening scene aren't stars at all; he also thinks
that Taylor's mission was to Alpha Centauri--which isn't referenced
anywhere in the film, of course!).
Anyhow, I've been waiting 27 friggin' years for the TV show to be
released UN-CUT, and this up-coming DVD release is none too soon. I
want my novel to have all the details that were presented on screen,
and whatever details exist that are (or seem to be) flubs... well,
it's my modus operandi to "un-flub" them!
It's going to be a long book, and it'll take a long time for me to
finish it, and there's no guarantee I'll be given the rights to
publish it... but if I do get it published, I hope all you other POTA
fans out there will like it.
Mr. "Ansanaut" might not like it (I don't think he particularly likes
ME!), but I'm not writing it for him. I'm writing it for me.
And, no, I'm not going to try to reconcile Burton's "re-imagining"
and the cartoon show "RETURN..." to the original live-action stuff. I
don't know about you, but the "new" movie was about as good (compared
to the original) as Ralph Fiennes' "The Avengers" was (compared to
the original series)...!
