He's in at least one shot in the trailer but they're keeping it hush-hush. If Fox will listen to their audience like Lucas does we're set.

Well I think the love story is central - Jedi are not allowed to love so Anakin blames Obi-Wan for his sneaking around with the queen.  The Emperor will play on this!!!

It looks good - and no sign of Binks!!

I would like to mention that the "Star Wars" trailer played during "Harry Potter". I'm sure Harry deserves every credit in the world for his box office but we know that people do go to movies just to see "Star Wars" trailers so maybe that helped a little.        - - - Jeff

What did you think of the "Star Wars" trailer?  After viewing it twice now, I'm interested in seeing everything in the movie EXCEPT THE LOVE STORY!!!  PLEEEEEEEEEEEASE!

Damn it! They did show "The Liberator" during it's original run. I know 'cause I saw it. The current "Entertainment Weekly" gives the TV show DVDs a "B" and says it's more fun than Burton's. They give "The Grinch" an "F".                           - - - - Jeff

Hey, they're not done reimagining Heston's movies, not by a long shot. Aintitcoolnews.com says Michael Bay and Will Smith want to do "I Am Legend" (aka: "The Omega Man"). Now this would seem more of a fit with Burton, since it has vampires and had versions starring his heroes, not just Heston but an earlier version with Vincent price. Anyway, Bay personally contacted the website (so they say) and wants to do it. They want to tie it in to the recent 9/11 madness. Will Heston make a cameo as one of those vampire creatures this time?                             - - - Jeff

Well I think the love story is central - Jedi are not allowed to love so Anakin blames Obi-Wan for his sneaking around with the queen.  The Emperor will play on this!!!

It looks good - and no sign of Binks!!

    Michael

Sometimes trailers can be a bit tricky.
I'm sure that Anakin is mad in that scene because Obi-Wan is keeping him from freeing his mother. What other reason would he be on Tatooine?

With the love for the Queen, and love for his mother. Anakin is going to kick some Jedi Council Butt.

Tower sells new releases at the crack of midnight. Except the best deal for the TV shows was Suncoast ($37.99, short of ordering on the internet and paying postage). The best deal I found for the Burton flick (again, just going to the store and picking it up) is Circuit City for $16.99. They also have the original flick on sale for $13.99 (DVD).

The best deal I found for the Burton flick (again, just going to the store and picking it up) is Circuit City for $16.99. They also have the original flick on sale for $13.99 (DVD).

Yeah, I noticed that in the press release too, but I suspect that they were
referring to the different formats more than anything else. I really can't
see any demand for a sequel from the games-buying public and more
importantly I can't see what they'd have left to explore - the game covered
all the major parts of the story.

Is this on again? A new film of this has been on the cards for years (an
article in SFX showed some pre-production sketches from Ridley Scott's
version, deemed too expensive to make) but seems to be even more troubled
than the history of the new Apes film.

It's one of my favourite books, but it's difficult to see how they could
film it and still remain faithful to the book. I love "The Omega Man" (I
haven't seen the Vincent Price version) but it bore as much resemblance to
the book as Planet of the Apes did to Boulle's novel. And the thought of a
classic like this in the hands of Michael Bay and Will Smith makes me want
    to puke.

    But anyway, back to apes...

I see the new UK DVD box set is anamorphic... the US one wasn't though, was
    it?

"I Am Legend" is an excellent book.  I can imagine it being filmed faithfully, but they won't do it.  Filmed faithfully I see it as a black and white movie, very much like a Twilight Zone episode.

My mistake. I went to Suncoast and you only get the TV show $37.99 deal if you reserved it. Otherwise it's $50. But I'd reserved it. They only had 3 copies. My local Tower doesn't have it, Circuit City and Target didn't order it and places like Blockbuster and Wherehouse didn't know what I was talking about. But I got them. They look great! I don't know what those reviewers were talking about. Overkill on the chapters but it sure is easy to find things.

They are packaged in one plastic case which is very awkward. There's also a little booklet that identifies each episode but mostly lists the chapters (there's a hell of a lot of chapters, 16 per episode; I wouldn't want to be the person who had to name them all!).

By the way, the Bill Blake scene isn't in it. Now he tells me that he didn't make the original broadcast version but he got residuals for it so it must have shown somewhere, maybe in the U.K. Is he in the Australian VHS version? It's "The Interrogation" ; he plays the chimp who owns the shed where Galen and Burke park the hay cart when they sneak into the city. Bill is given the 3rd degree by a gorilla. I'd appreciate any help in finding this scene, so if any of our European friends have it taped from broadcast maybe it's on there.                                   - - - Jeff

I've seen it -- of course, I've damn near seen everything -- it's weak but not all that bad.  Vincent Price is no Charlton Heston, though.  If you can find the book it's well worth reading, and I'm sure they'll f*** it up will Will Smith as the star.  Good God!

Well, I have both the TV show and the new movie today.  Amazon brought them right to my door -- "It's the only way to fly!"

Anyway, I'm not putting these babies into my DVD player until Friday, so I can't say anything about them except for the packaging, which I like.  I think the snap-case for the TV series is just fine, and the one for the new movie is kind of cool.  The new movie also comes with a booklet and a card that tries to explain the film's time-line paradoxes.  I guess Fox knows everyone was really confused by the movie.

Well, anyway, I sure do have a lot of POTA DVDs now, the original film (with my 'proper cover'), the boxed set of the movies, the "Behind" S.E., the TV series, and the new movie!   Forgetting for a moment that, to say the least, I'm not all that crazy about the the new movie, this DVD collection is "POTAriffic"!  And I've just read in the latest Widescreen Review magazine the a Five-Star Edition DVD of the original will probably happen in 2003.  So, things are pretty good, POTA-wise.  Now let's just hope a sequel gets made and they do it right this time.

I got it for $37.49 at Amazon, and the new movie for $22.95.  I had to pay $7.96 for two-day shipping, but when you figure in that there's no sales tax AND I don't have to waste gas driving around looking for these things, it's worth it.

Yeah, I'm sure you can find them cheaper on the net. It's just that I don't want to wait untill it arrives. It could take up to a week, and I want to start my POTA T.V. marathon this weekend. :o)

Best Buy has the new POTA marked down to $17.99 for a couple of days. As they do for all new releases. Too bad I already had it. I payed $22.95 but had it a week before release. So it was worth it.

Funny, some guy was looking for POTA 2001 at Walmart today when I was there looking for the T.V. Series. His friend told him, "I found it!" But it was the original POTA. Then the guy replied, "No, that's old school."

Oh yeah, Widescreen Review also said that along with a Five-Star Edition of the original in 2003 will also come anamorphic transfers of the sequels.  So, perhaps there will be a boxed set of the sequels.  Now to sell that Fox will need plenty of extras AND a director's cut of CONQUEST and an expanded edition of BATTLE would be a damn fine idea.

Also, speaking of anamorphic video. . . . on these new digital 16X9 sets, if the DVD isn't in anamorphic, a letterboxed movie on DVD really looks like crap.  Over the weekend I was at an electronics store and was looking at a bunch of 50" plasma TVs.   Guys and girl-illas, I have seen the promised land.  This is the way to go in the future.  F***ing Fantastic picture!

Bill watched some of the TV eps on DVD with me and gave me a lot of tid bits as we watched. He pointed out when Roddy's double, Ron Stein, was on screen, which was a lot (including full face and even a word or two). He's familiar with the Fox Ranch and pointed out when the rock where Caesar had the council meeting in "Battle" was in the background. Most of the episodes had the same village redressed but the "Good Seeds" farm was separate. Bill had a field day with the farm apes' makeup because of the varied quality. He pointed out that the BART set in "The Trap" had set pieces from the 'Ape Management' in "Conquest" and "Battle".  The ship was boiler plate metal not "plywood" (a pet peeve of his). In "The Gladiator" it's the same arena used in the first 2 flicks which stayed around until the late '70's. The series added to it including the holding area for the combatants and an arch in the front. The arena was also used as the entrance to the 'Mountain City' in the 1977 pilot to the "Logan's Run" TV show. They went to Universal to shoot the destroyed city in "The Trap" 'cause that's where they had filmed "Earthquake".
The brown insert on Roddy's chimp suit wasn't leather like the other chimps', it was vinyl (Roddy McDowall #1).

At first it looks like negative dust particles but I couldn't believe it when I realized what it was. It must be true what Bill Blake said, that they were playing up to the more primitive TVs people had then. That's why they put the white stripes on the gorilla uniforms and colored in the markings on Urko's helmet (which was actually the same one used by Ursus). They wanted to make sure people with their small black and white TVs could see things.

Excellent inside info there.  Fox should have hired him to do a running commentary for each episode.  (Cheap Fox bastards!)   I remember being able to spot Roddy's double all the time on the TV show AND in BATTLE.  Roddy also refused most of the time during the show to have his hands made up, so you'll notice he's wearing hairy gloves.  I can't believe that the arena part of Ape City stood from 1967 until the late seventies.  I wish it was still there.  Has Bill seen the Bank America commercial that's currently running that shows a bunch of kids at the rock pool where Taylor took his dip in PLANET?  Anyone else here spotted it?

Yes, contrary to what most youngster may think, most of us got rid of our B&W TVs in the 60's.

That really didn't turn out to good, Alex.  Try again.  I'll have to tell you guys sometime where it is in PLANET that you can see a gorilla get his wig piece flipped off.

That's as good as I can get it because once Natalie stops and goes into focus, she covers the gorilla in the background. So you don't see as much as you see in the picture I sent.

I got it for $37.49 at Amazon, and the new movie for $22.95.  I had to pay $7.96 for two-day shipping, but when you figure in that there's no sales tax AND I don't have to waste gas driving around looking for these things, it's worth it.

Yup. I still have one. A little red Hitachi with an 8 inch screen. I used
to use it in the kitchen until the cord got finicky. I have a 3 inch color
now that I use in the bedroom. But know when my main 20 inch color set
finally goes a better one will be in reach. Hopefully a wide screen plasma!
Then I'll be wathcing all the Apes movies in style with 3D glasses!

I'm noticing other things too, like Roddy's gloves, the extensive use of
his double and some truly shoddy makeup. These were shot for the TVs of the
day and I'm sure they had no idea the shows would be "collected" and
scrutinized on DVD ("whatever that is"). - - -

Well, they seem to have some repeat customers. They did this for the "Batman" TV show DVD and passed out the DVDs. And "Freddy Got Fingered". The point was to give a report in "Ape Chronicles", so if I don't get it it's their ass! (oops, sorry JoAndra...).

Yep, Twilight Zone indeed. But it's not easy to see them making a film in
which the main character would primarily have to talk to himself (they'd
have to introduce something like the bust Heston spoke to in The Omega Man).

One thing's for certain, it's not the sort of film you'll get from Michael
          Bay, that's for sure.
