.html.html I meant after the battle at Calima. After that, the rest is conjecture, unless you know something I don't (you probably do). Maybe he didn't get out. Maybe some other ape took over the world in Thade's honor and the statue was a memorial to his martyrdom. Hey! I'm grasping at straws here! Trying to salvage my dignity after being put squarely back in place! A destroyed moon could also
help explain the massive change in the landscape of North America, something a
nuclear war alone wouldn't do.
I said something similar to that already. Glad
someone else thought of that though, I was makin it up as I went.

I was going to bring up the moon thing.
Remember in PLANET Dodge mentions the cloud cover at night and that strange
luminosity. Of course, the filmmakers had to come up with this in order
that the astronauts couldn't figure out right away where they were, but I've
come to believe that in PLANET the earth has lost its moon and that the
'strange luminosity' could be cause by the reflected light coming from a
debris ring around the earth. A destroyed moon could also help explain
the massive change in the landscape of North America, something a nuclear war
alone wouldn't do. The 'storm of meteors' that Taylor speculates on at
the end of PLANET may have actually happened.
The remake of THE TIME
MACHINE will feature a scene where the moon is destroyed. I look forward
to seeing what hapopens in that movie.

Also, BENEATH does seem to indicate that Ape City would have to be on Long Island since when the gorilla army finally get to Manhattan they are viewing it from Brooklyn. The ruins of the Brooklyn Bridge are right there in the lower right in that matte painting of the wrecked city. So, how can Ape City be in New Jersey?

"Best job in the world", aye? Who the heck have you been talking
to? I passed up the chance for that gig back in the 80's (nipple
blush artist for Hefner)!
No, but seriously folks...
It's pretty dang cool having the privilege to do what we do here.
Having met and worked with many of my childhood heroes is a big plus!!!
The whole APEMANIA thing has added a glow to our studio that other
workshops in town only wish they had. I can't tell you how many people
tell me (on a weekly basis) that they'd rather be working here than for
Rick, or Stan, or some of the other larger shops. Working here is
fun and often exciting, especially when there's something "APE" going on.
There's a certain magic to Planet of the Apes and doing what we do
with APEMANIA on the side has really made Make-up & Monsters Studios
a fun place to be.
Making the lifesize displays in our downtime REALLY pumps that magic
up too! Everytime we get one finished, WOW! I can't tell you
how rewarding that feeling is. The crew will stop and stare at the
better ones in disbelief, and we're the folks making them. So there's
a lot of gratification in making the displays. Each time we've put
one up on eBay, people go ape-sh*t with bids. I put one up yesterday
and it's already got 19 bids. <http://cgi.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1518384987>.
Hey, your from down under Mike and Ken, I got a call from someone
at Fox saying that the Ursus mannequin is coming back to the states now
and needs to be deodorized. Did a kangaroo relieve itself on the
poor devil? What's up with that? I guess we'll find out next
month.
As far as it being the best job in the world? I dunno, if you
can call having you fingers in Jim Carrey's mouth or Mike Myers nose the
best job, I guess I can say I've been there. But every now and then,
especially when you're slapping dungeon mud into Kevin Bacon's crotch,
that nipple blush job at Hef's looks better and better.
Cheers,
Brian

When Dodge says there's no moon, he is basing his assumption on less than 72 hours of observation. It's possible the ship landed during the new moon which, coupled with the cloud cover, could keep it from being seen for that long.
Of course, the moon IS there. Remember that Cornelius says, "You can't ride along the shore at high tide and we had no boats on our last expedition." Without a moon, there wouldn't be tides.

Of course, the filmmakers had to come up with this in order that the astronauts couldn't figure out right away where they were, but I've come to believe that in PLANET the earth has lost its moon and that the 'strange luminosity' could be cause by the reflected light coming from a debris ring around the earth. A destroyed moon could also help explain the massive change in the landscape of North America, something a nuclear war alone wouldn't do. The 'storm of meteors' that Taylor speculates on at the end of PLANET may have actually happened.
The remake of THE TIME MACHINE will feature a scene where the moon is destroyed. I look forward to seeing what hapopens in that movie.

Do you mean that close-up of Zaius when Taylor utters the immortal line, "You cut up his brain, you bloody baboon!"? I love that moment in the film. Maybe Schaffner and the editor felt the audience needed to know to which bloody baboon Taylor was referring.

When Dodge says there's no moon, he is basing his assumption on
less than 72 hours of observation. It's possible the ship landed during the
new moon which, coupled with the cloud cover, could keep it from being seen
for that long.
Of course, the moon IS there. Remember that Cornelius
says, "You can't ride along the shore at high tide and we had no boats on our
last expedition." Without a moon, there wouldn't be
tides.

.html Like I've stated in the past, I can see arguments for both timeline theories,
but to me the one that is most enjoyable is the circular one. This is the way
I've always looked at the films ever since I first saw them at a very young
age. I thought the ending of CONQUEST was a shocker and probably the most
sophisticated thing my 6 year old mind had seen at the time. I thought it was
extremely clever that Taylor's initial voyage was responsible for the whole
POTA. I guess I was too young to overthink the scientific possibilities of it
all and too lazy now to change my mind. I am not saying that the circular
time line is the best one, it's just the one that works best and is the most
fun for me personally.
I also like to think that the TV show fits into the same time line as the
film. It has been stated here recently that TV shows that are spinoffs of
films are always separate (MASH, The Odd Couple, etc) but I think that since
the TV show is set in a different time period (after BATTLE and before POTA)
than the original films and features all new characters that it was designed
to be part of the same saga. Both the MASH movie and TV show have characters
named Hawkeye Pierce and Trapper John, but the portrayals are so different
that they can hardly be considered from the same "universe" (and besides,
Hawkeye goes home at the end of the film while Trapper stays in Korea).
I even like to think that perhaps Virdon was considered to head up the ANSA
colonization mission that ultimately went to Taylor, but was passed over
because of his attachment to his family and a key member of his crew (Burke)
was too young and inexperienced to go on such an important mission. Again,
this is just my opinion, and offers me the most enjoyment of the films and TV
show as a whole.
Toodles,
Matt <.html

to be the Bri... "Best job in the world", aye? Who the
heck have you been talking to? I passed up the chance for that gig
back in the 80's (nipple blush artist for Hefner)! No, but
seriously folks...
It's pretty dang cool having the privilege to do what we do
here. Having met and worked with many of my childhood heroes is a
big plus!!!
The whole APEMANIA thing has added a glow to our studio that other
workshops in town only wish they had. I can't tell you how many
people tell me (on a weekly basis) that they'd rather be working here than
for Rick, or Stan, or some of the other larger shops. Working here
is fun and often exciting, especially when there's something "APE" going
on.
There's a certain magic to Planet of the Apes and doing what we do
with APEMANIA on the side has really made Make-up & Monsters Studios a
fun place to be. Making the lifesize displays in our downtime
REALLY pumps that magic up too! Everytime we get one finished,
WOW! I can't tell you how rewarding that feeling is. The crew
will stop and stare at the better ones in disbelief, and we're the folks
making them. So there's a lot of gratification in making the
displays. Each time we've put one up on eBay, people go ape-sh*t
with bids. I put one up yesterday and it's already got 19 bids.
Hey, your from down under Mike and Ken, I got a call from someone at
Fox saying that the Ursus mannequin is coming back to the states now and
needs to be deodorized. Did a kangaroo relieve itself on the poor
devil? What's up with that? I guess we'll find out next
month.
As far as it being the best job in the world? I dunno, if you
can call having you fingers in Jim Carrey's mouth or Mike Myers nose the
best job, I guess I can say I've been there. But every now and then,
especially when you're slapping dungeon mud into Kevin Bacon's crotch,
that nipple blush job at Hef's looks better and better.
Cheers,
Brian

Well, since he bothers to shave in the first place I guess Taylor had a thing for being clean shaven. I'm sure he did his best to keep himself that way -- it probably helped remind him that he wasn't the animal the apes took him for.

"Best job in the world", aye? Who the heck have you been
talking to? I passed up the chance for that gig back in the 80's
(nipple blush artist for Hefner)!
Cheers,
Brian
Hi Brian

Great! Thanks whatever your name is.
Now I'd like to know how this is supposed to be the New York area. Look how long the ocean coastline is. That can only be the east coast of the country SOUTH of New York. For me that inland sea where Taylor crashed is what's left of Chesapeake Bay (as I've said, the ocean levels have dropped, so in PLANET there's more land around the bay which has now become an inland sea). You see where the inland sea and the river empty into the ocean? Well, that's where you see Taylor, Nova and the apes reach the sea in PLANET. On the map they would then turn right (actually north) and ride up the shore to the cave. How far up the shore that cave is, who knows? But I would say that where you see Taylor's arm in this shot -- that would be about where the area that was New Jersey would start. It's not too convoluted to think that Taylor would then just ride further up the shore to find the Statue of Liberty.
Now, I can understand what some of you who think this is the New York area are seeing -- The brown area in front of Taylor's arm is what's left of Long Island and the inland sea is supposed to be Long Island sound. But it just doesn't make sense because look how New Jersey is gone -- the shoreline just keeps extending west. And how could the escape party in PLANET have avoided seeing the ruins of Manhattan as they traveled to the cave? If this were the New York area, what was left of the city would have to be right where the inland sea empties into the ocean -- there's no way they could have missed it. And, if Ape City was that close to the ruins of New York how could the the apes have not discovered it in two thousand years? (That black dotted line, by the way, is supposed to be the boundary of the Forbidden Zone. Everything right of that line is the zone. Cornelius was allowed to travel into the zone -- how did he miss
it?)
No, I've come to believe very much that this is an area of the east coast showing what was the area around Chesapeake Bay, and that Cornelius is holding it sideways so that what looks to be east (right) is actually north. At the end of PLANET Taylor IS riding north, with the land on his left and the ocean on his right. So, that's the way I see it! Okay, your turn to tell me how I'm wrong.

that's the unwritten rule of being an astronaut. Either that or the moon
does it.

"Blue face?" No wonder it was ten bucks! Is it life-size?
I can guarentee the only time we'll do a blue face ape display is when
someone orders a Lost in Space version. Or was that a Green face?

Oh, I dunno, the Orangutangs (Zaius, Honorius) ECONOMY versions
are only $650 and the DELUXE are running $2,250. Of course one might
get lucky when we stick one of the ol' blondies on eBay and pick it up
for a song! Yah never know.

.htmlOK You're wrong. Just kidding. You make some very valid points, but forgive me I just don't see it. And I'm sure even if I had sworn statements from William Creber, Rod Serling & Arther Jacobs saying the map was meant to the New York area in 2000 years; you'd just say they are wrong too. So why bother aurguing it. I'd rather argue over who's sexier Nova or Deana.

Hey Rory,
No reason to dispair.
We developed the ECONOMY versions for folks who can't swing the
higher price tags of the DELUXE busts.
The Econs still look good; take a look at the APE-O-NAUT versions
(enclosed). They still are impressive conversation pieces, for a
fraction of the cost of the DELUXE busts.
And there's always Ebay. We fix up the less than perfect
castings and put them up for auction from time to time, so you might get
lucky sometime. Who knows?

Hell, if I had that kind of money to spend on this stuff I'd have bought

Well, those don't look like a match to me. You got a map of the Chesapeake Bay/Virginia area to put next to Cornelius' map?
Now, of course you guys know that I'm not trying to say that where I think the area the map shows for PLANET works for BENEATH? It doesn't. BENEATH is like in another demension from PLANET. Isn't it funny though that in BENEATH Cornelius gets his map out, but the director doesn't show it.
And as far as my 'buddy' Jimmy goes, I knew I wouldn't change his mind. It's the same as with Matt and the time loop thing -- you guys have thought this way since you were kids, you like it like this, and your minds are made up. HOW HUMAN!!!
