That's not nearly enough Chimpette action! How many episodes did they make total to only have three with Chimpettes??

Since we're on the subject, does anyone have any screen captures of any Chimpettes from these series episodes they could email me?? I don't have the DVD set yet. You can send them to agnosticdragon at yahoo.com   It would be greatly appreciated. :o)

What what??? Bondage gear??? Please specify...what's her name...are there pictures??? :o)

I believe the title was The Interrogation.
The one where Wanda has Burke tied to a table and is spinning it around trying to brainwash him in to thinking she's his girlfriend so he'll talk.  His sense came back right before she kissed him, but my taste in women must be broader than his.  I would have faked being insensible a few seconds longer and waited to see how it was.  I mean, lets face it, the only other female on the planet interested in him was another chimp.  And she was blind!  Before you ask, Pentaclese, no he didn't score then either.  She felt his face and freaked.  As far as striking out goes, he was batting a thousand.  Galen was just as bad.  His girlfriend was a doctor, but he'd rather be running around in the woods with a couple of dudes!  Anyone remember if Verdon got any?  Seems to me, if he wasn't worried about his wife and kids, there was some randy human chick that would have been all over him.

My new machine has no graphics accelerator or Screen Capture Card. I've been
thinking about getting them or an All-In-Wonder Card but neither option is
inexpensive. I'd love to have more Chimpettes in my t-shirt collection.
I think there were 13 episodes in all. 12 and a pilot is standard fare for a
new series.

What about the chimpette that got away? In "Starlog", Kim Hunter said she
was asked to guest and she turned it down. Would have been cool if she
guested as a human. Chimpettes? There's Wanda in "The Interrogation", the
wife and daughter in the "Good Seeds" (is the daughter the single worst
actor in the show?), that bitchette in "Up Above the World", there's the
"Deception" and "The Surgeon". That covers it? Oh, and the chick who hands
out the medicine in "The Horse Race".

There were 14 episodes, not 13, and there is also a nasty little chimpette with beautiful eyes in the last episode, entitled "Up Above the World So High".  Basically she wants to blow up the sitting powers that be so that chimps can take over the world.    The Surgeon, the Deception and Interrogation are the others with chimpettes, as has been previously mentioned.

As far a screen captures go, I've done captures from 5 episodes and from three pretty exhaustively, but none of them from the episodes mentioned.  I'm gradually working on the rest.

    >GROW UP, PATRICK!

I, for one, would rather he didn't, if growing up means stifling his
    imagination.

Patrick's one of the more thoughtful posters here. I've never seen
him toss out an easy one-liner in response to someone's point or
question, and he always takes the time to fully explain his ideas.
Even when those ideas are being treated with scorn, he usually
responds with care and consideration. OK, so he's not the most
concise of writers, but his posts are often food for thought, and
    quite nourishing, too.

His POTA novel is obviously a labour of love - he's studied the
details and seems to be putting a lot of effort into the project.
Trying to tie all of the Apes movies and TV episodes together to
make one epic, as well as give some background to the series'
unexplained happenings, sounds like a lot of fun to me.

Just because you don't like some of Patrick's constructions - such
as the Zaius thing - it doesn't mean that they're silly or childish.
What's so crazy about two characters being related? Fiction is just
that. As long as the story doesn't contain contradictions or surreal
flights of fancy (Cornelius turning into a purple swan on page 54 is
perhaps a bit much), *anything* can happen when you're writing it.
That's the beauty of imagination. And Patrick seems to have more of
it than most. So I say, hey, good luck to the guy.

I love the TV series and still can't believe it was canceled when it was.
There were so many things they could have done with it. How about an
episode where a Soviet cosmonaut lands on the POTA? How about a coup
attempt by Urko? How about they find a small group with advanced tech

It's obvious in PLANET that Dr. Zaius has never been in the Forbidden Zone.  I'd forgotten about him asking Taylor, "Where is your tribe?"  As for the "Secret Scrolls"... well, you've got to remember that wasn't invented until ESCAPE.  There's no hint of these things in PLANET.  One of the wonderful things about PLANET is it's so ambiguous as to how the earth became a planet of apes, and just how much the apes know about their past.  (That allows your imagination to run wild as you reflect back on the movie -- at least it did for me when I was a kid.)  From the evidence we have in the dialogue of the original it seems plain the apes know about as much about their origins as we would know if we only had the Bible to go on -- and I think that was one of the points of the first film.

Why fans like Patrick, for example, want to fill in all the ambiguities with some kind of convoluted assumptions based on the writings of everything from the sequels to obscure novelizations and comic books is beyond me.  Patrick seems to think this is fun, and as far as using that to try and explain some of the lapses in logic in the films I'm all for that, but when it extends to imposing a certain interpretation on the original or the sequels (such as in PLANET Taylor is landing on the earth 2000 years after Cornelius and Zira returned to earth in 1973 -- even though he's never even met them yet, or that Cornelius is lying in ESCAPE when he tells Hasslein of the past), well I feel I have a right to argue with that, and if he keeps doing it to the extent that he has, well he gets the reaction from me that he's asked for.   He's mentioned that he's had similar reactions from other APES fans.

The TV show is a separate POTA "universe" from the movies. So is the
cartoon series, the original book, and POTA 2001. The very first scene
of the very first TV episode purposely has a dog in it so that people
wouldn't try to fit it into the movie universe, because all the dogs were
killed in both of the movie timelines. On top of that in the TV pilot
they find a picture of New York City in the 26th century, but in the
movies human civilization is destroyed in the 20th century. Remember
that in PLANET Cornelius finds evidence of primitive barbarism in
NYC during that period of the original timeline, and in the altered
BATTLE timeline there was obviously a nuclear war a long time before the
25th century. So they just aren't compatible and were never intended
    to be.

    >You seem to prefer the "two migrations" theory over just "one

Actually, I think that one cross country migration is nonsensical, but
two migrations (mutants & ape city) starting AND ENDING at the same place
on the other side of the continent stretches things beyond all bounds
    of credibility.

Since the TV show has been out on DVD awhile now this might be a good time
to comment on Virden and Burke's tactics. One thing that makes the TV
show interesting is that Virden and Burke are doing more than just running
from the apes, they are also subverting the conservative class system.

Virden's main stated goal is to look for the technology to allow them
to escape the planet, and Virden and Burke don't claim to want to
overthrow the ape regime. But their strategy of enlightning and
liberalizing one mind at a time aims in that direction, which is why they
are hunted by Zaius and Urko. Trying to overthrow or change an
authoritarian and caste ridden regime by non violent resistance must surely
be hard to do, but the theme of the show seems to be saying that it is the
best course of action. Zaius' disclosure to Virden and Burke that humanity
destroyed itself through warfare ties directly into this.

Still, you have to ask why they don't adopt more aggressive tactics?
Would resorting to guerilla warfare be more effective in bringing about
change? One reason for their non violent tactics must surely be their look of
humility when Zaius tells them humanity destroyed itself because of warfare.
Another reason is that Galen would probably object.

But Virden and Burke seem to carry this pacifism to an extreme. Not only
do they not carry weapons, they have prevented both a coup (Up Above
the World So High) and a civil war (The Liberator ??) against the ape regime.
In the short term it is clear that Zaius and Urko are better off having
Virden and Burke running around preventing coups and civil wars against them.

The High Council appears to be a elected government, but only a South
African style minority government. An interesting question is to ask
yourself what tactics you would adopt in their situation. I think I would
give some consideration to adopting guerilla tactics against the high
council. At the very least I would carry a gun (concealed). And I wouldn't
try to stop coups and civil wars against the ape government. Of course this
is just a TV show, but in real life the issue of pacifistic vs. violent
resistence would be a very tough question. What might have made the show
much more interesting would be for the group to disagree on what tactics
    to use.

Remember, Taylor refers to Zaius as "The guardian of the trerrible

than he's saying. But as for the 'Secret Scrolls' you're right, that

True, its just not believable that the mutants treked cross country
with a nuclear missile in tow. While I see the TV series as a totally
seperate universe,if you do want to fit it in with the movies, I can
believe that some ape pioneers and explorers journeyed from Ape City

McDowall liked to cut loose as an Ape!  He was famous for it even when the cameras weren't rolling.  Kim referred o mask acting as a marvelous holiday for an actor.  And most actors look at their work with a jaundiced eye.  How many lines, how much screen time, what do I get to do.  I can't stand those Star Trek acting exercise episodes where someone goes through several personalities.  Especially when it's a character like Spock or Data or 7 of 9, who isn't supposed to have emotions.  I think it's just an appeasement.  A bone thrown to the actor to keep them interested in their work.  I find it embarrassing to watch.  Still, when your job is acting, not emoting must be the toughest job of all.

wouldn't try to fit it into the movie universe, because all the dogs were
killed in both of the movie timelines.  On top of that in the TV pilot

movies human civilization is destroyed in the 20th century.

I don't think we have to assume that New York City was destroyed in the 20th century.  Remember that when BENEATH was written and filmed, they had no idea ESCAPE was going to be made, so we shouldn't let what was revealed in ESCAPE dictate how we think about BENEATH.  The only thing in NYC ruins in BENEATH that possibly dates its destruction as in the 20th century is the bus seen next to the tunnel that Brent and Nova come out of, but I think that bus shouldn't be taken too literally.  It was a mistake to put it there -- after two thousand years it would only be an unrecognizable heap of rust -- so I think it's best to ignore it as far as trying to date NYC's destruction.  It's not improbable to assume that the other NYC landmarks seen could be preserved for at least another two to three hundred years -- well, the facade of Radio City is a bit of a stretch -- but, we are stuck with what Cornelius says in ESCAPE that it was several hundred of years before the apes "turned the tables" on man -- in the original timeline that is!.  So what are we to think?  Patrick says Cornelius is lying, others that the writers of the "secret scrolls" got the timescale wrong and it wasn't hundreds of years but just years or decades.  I prefer first not to think about it too much, but if I must I can also entertain the idea that even after a nuclear war apes may have remained slaves to what was left of humanity for a long while, and that it may have been an aftereffect of the nuclear war that helped cause the physical and mental fall of man and the rise of the apes -- in the original timeline that is!!!

I don't think that we should assume that the stories in the films are as simple as they've mostly been interpreted to be.

Yes, Dr. Zaius in PLANET does seem to know more about the past than it would seem could be found in the sacred scrolls of the Lawgiver, but just what it is that he knows is an enigmatic thing that I've happily lived with since I first saw the movie in '68.

Some of you think this puzzle needs to be answered, but I have to ask why?  Doesn't it kind of rob the original movie of its mystery?  Does anyone else here think that the sequels robbed the original of its mystery, beside me?

Hard to say really.  It depends on how well protected it is the fact that som builings fell on it and pile it over with dust...We saw just how much dust is generated by 2 big buildings.  Given that it becomes an artificial cave and that it's now in a dessert, it should be pretty well preserved.

I also have the new POTA movie poster that was displayed at my local Blockbuster video store and the stand up display that was in my local movie theater, but it's in pretty bad shape. It's also got some chewing gum stuck on the back of it. Yeah, I never bought a Mego and probably never will.  I had the game and the trashcan too.  A garage sale must have got it.  The original model I bought for $50 bucks was probably the same one I sold in the 70s.  How knew they'd reissue?

As most on the list know I'm the resident Kim Hunter collector.  So I have a generous Apes section in the collection.  If I ever come by the needed cash I'll be boosting Apemania's profit margin, you can be sure.  But what I really want is the Zira #1 at the Niagara Planet Hollywood.

Wow I don't think I can beat you're collection Rory. I have both the
original Topps cards from the first film & the Archives set (with all
the chase cards) and the one sheets, lobby cards, pressbooks &
Heralds from the original from the original films. I just started
collecting the Medicon figures but have 11 so far (not counting the 2
Lawgivers & 2 Taylors). I still have the Marvel magazine #1 along
with the books 'Planet of the Apes Revisited' and 'The Planet of the
Apes Chronicles'. All the DVDs including the Behind Special Edition.
The best item I have is a 11"x17" reproduction of the Planet one
sheet that has been autographed by Linda Harrison & Charlton Heston.

Then why not settle in the nearest habitable city like Denver or
Chicago. Why travel all the way to New York?
I've heard this theory since before the TV show and Marvel's flawed
timeline. Just cause Escape was in California, Conquest and Battle
must be in California too. That makes no sense. Armando was on his
way to Florida at the end of Escape in the first place plus it's much
more believable that he traveled to the east coast in the 18 years
between Escape & Conquest (when things like planes and trains were
    available).

They don't discourage fighting back in "The Liberator". They're just
against building bombs. But they're told not to join because "men must fight
where they have their roots" (a little Vietnam parable). I get the feeling
they don't want the humans to bite off more than they can chew, like
suggesting Leuric develop a plow instead of a hang glider. They aren't ready
to take on the apes except in small ways. Maybe by Season 5. - -

Remember, Taylor refers to Zaius as "The guardian of the terrible

    was an invention in Escape.

I was bored just now and for the hell of it I went to astrology.com and did a free sample reading on Roddy McDowall and got interesting results. I didn't know him, so I can't judge its accuracy, but here it is.

    -----------------------------------------------

    Section 1: General Personality Characteristics

At heart you are modest and humble, and you rarely strive to
be in the limelight or in a position of power. You have a sharp
analytical mind, a keen eye for detail, and you prefer to
observe, dissect, and study life from a distance. Conscientious
and conservative, you can be relied upon to be careful,
efficient, and thorough in your work and you take pride in doing
a job well. What you may lack in self-confidence you often make
up for in skill - developing expertise, technical knowledge, and
competency in some specialized area. You are adept at using your
hands to create or fix things, and meticulous attention to
detail and careful craftsmanship are your forte. Some would say
you are a little TOO meticulous, for you can be extremely
critical and petty if everything is not done exactly as you
think it should be, and you worry about things that other people
consider trivial and unimportant. You like to organize,
categorize, and arrange everything into a logical system, and
you are often distinctly uncomfortable when something does not
fit into a neat category. Disorganization vexes you. You
probably wish that you were not such a perfectionist, for
besides being a stickler for details, you can be mercilessly
self-critical as well. Whether in your environment or in
yourself, you tend to focus on the flaws, with a desire to
improve, refine, and perfect. You are strictly factual,
truthful, and scrupulously honest in your self-estimation, and
you often do not give yourself enough praise or credit.

You are also highly discriminating and may be especially
particular about your diet, hygiene, and health habits. You have
high aesthetic standards and refined sensitivities, and will be
bothered by elements in your surroundings (such as disorder,
cigarette smoke, etc.) that others overlook. Your tastes are
simple, understated, but refined. Coarseness, bluntness, and
vulgarity really offend you. You can be difficult to live with
sometimes because of your fastidiousness, your sensitivity, and
your idiosyncrasies about food and cleanliness.

Though you seem rather cool and self-contained, you have a
very helpful nature and you enjoy serving others. You are
content to be in a supportive, assisting role rather than in the
lead. You are quietly devoted to the ones you care for.

You are careful and cautious in your approach to life,
realistic, practical, and disinclined to gamble. You analyze
before you act. You are too serious sometimes. Allowing yourself
to play and to make mistakes would be HEALTHY for you!

Section 2: Mental Interests and Abilities

One of your greatest assets is your ability to see both
sides of an issue, and to negotiate and bring about compromise
and reconciliation. Tactful, reasonable, and with considerable
social finesse, you work well with people in business as well as
in personal relationships. You are objective and somewhat
detached from emotional bias, and make an excellent consultant,
mediator, or public relations person. You insist upon fairness
and seek to bring harmony or at least peaceful coexistence
between people, and your diplomacy is a benefit in any business
or social situation. You also have fine aesthetic sensitivities
and could work in an artistic or cultural environment.

    -----------------------------------------------
Does anyone think this sounds close, or is it way off base?

    Just wondering,

The Zira "Human See, Human Do" is a favorite of Buck ("Julius") Kartalian, who says he improvised that line.

I started collecting back in the '80's. Mostly I get stuff when they're cheap. I got the "Planet/Beneath" double feature poster for $3, the "Conquest" one-sheet for $7 and the "Battle" one-sheet for $10. My first big project was collecting the Topps cards, a few at a time. Then I got most of the Megos before they went up in price (Zira, Zauis, Cornelius, Ursus, Soldier Ape and Burke - - the latter two were on John Chambers' birthday cake in '98).
Then the old stuff got too expensive in the '90's and new stuff was appearing - - magazines, books, action figures- - so I switched to that. And with all the clearance items I added some of the Burton stuff for a rounded collection. And comic books old and new.  That's what I collect, what's on sale.              - - Jeff

Things I haven't bothered collecting are the '70s Mego figures and most of the toys and games and other crap that came out then.  I used to have an APES garbage can, but I lost that years ago.

Yeah, I never bought a Mego and probably never will.  I had the game and the trashcan too.  A garage sale must have got it.  The original model I bought for $50 bucks was probably the same one I sold in the 70s.  How knew they'd reissue?

I have a few T-shirts, but I never wear them.  And of course I have the films on video (VHS, Laserdisc, DVD) and now the TV show too.

I have both pan & scan and letterbox sets, some of the TV shows and the new DVD. I have the Marcus shirt, The Zira face Human see Human Do shirt and The Kiss with hearts awwwww...  I also never wear them.  I'm going to have to make my own so I can afford to wash them.  Can't wear a museum piece.  Oh and the new Film Crew shirt & hat.

There's other things (like stuff from Apemania) that I'd love to get,

Be for the went into business I got a whole box of messed up ones.  I was going to recast and sell 'em!  Until Brian emailed a cease and diciest.  Who knew they were going into business?  I though I had cornered the market!  For the price I paid I should have got a mold!  I've got a birthday coming up Brian!  Hint hint!!!!!

They also do the title song... oh yeah, that Partridge Family guy's in it too.

    I certainly do agree Rory.

I think the original also intended to expand in at least one sequel and therefore left a few questions that needed to be answered.

They sure could have done a far better job though.

For its time, it was some ingenious and original thinking to keep coming up with ides to pump out sequels.

I have never had the experience of just seeing the first one. The "first one" for me was "Escape". But I still find a lot of mystery and unanswered questions in the original. POTA and "2001" are what science-fiction movies should be.                                 - - - Jeff

Remember, Taylor refers to Zaius as "The guardian of the terrible
secret" in Planet to me this seems to suggest that Zaius knows more
than he's saying. But as for the 'Secret Scrolls' you're right, that
      was an invention in Escape.

I think it's safe to assume eye glasses, false teeth, and heart valves will be with us for some time.  What really could have dated the nuclear war would have been if Taylor examined that doll in the cave more closely and found on the back of it "Copyright 1995 by Hasbro.  Made in Japan."

        This is one Amazing collection!

        I'm a little embarrassed here. I don't really collect stuff. I sort
of give stuff away. I do have Planet on VHS boxed with
four "sequels" in a cute Statue of Liberty sleeve. I also bought
some 1998 [Inkworks] Planet trading cards and some 2001 [Topps] cards
on eBay to pass out along our parade route. I have several books.
And yes, I have 2001 2-disk collector's edition on dvd. Oh yeah
(sheepishly) I have Zira and Zaius in Hasbro edition dolls. I bought
them for the kids but didn't have enough of them to give them away.
As a group, we are working on a fine collection of homemade masks and
        costumes.

I am more interested in seeing things than in owning them. (I
probably couldn't take proper care of stuff anyway.) I would love to
see Go Ape Billy's stuff. I would love to spend a day with the
Apes. (Shouldn't there be an Apes theme park somewhere?)

        Hi Helen

Like I said there are more amazing collections around - I was just very
dilligent for a few years there. Nearly all the stuff listed is in the
original package and cost a fortune to buy.

The way it goes is, thing cost a lot until the serious ape collectors have
them.....then they sell for next to nothing and make us squirm. I bought a
pop gun (that no collector ever knew existed until it appeared on ebay) in

now they appear on ebay for about $25. ARRRRGHHH!!!

So don't be embarrassed - collectors are insane.

Since the remake flopped, most of thgis stuff has gone back to being
        reasonably priced.

        What is "Go-Ape Billy's Stuff"?

okay, the female chimp in "Up Above the World So High" is called Carsia, played by Joanna Barnes.  This next one is the evil Wanda, played by Beverly Garland.  Jeez, the things I do before I go to work!

On the DVD for Patton Goldsmith talks about how disappointed he would
of been if he had been made to do the score for the 'first' sequel l
to Planet of the Apes in stead of Patton. It's interesting that he
        kept stressing the 'first' sequel.

I have 2 Lawgivers because on the first one I got the left arm was
glued too high and it didn't reach the scroll. So I got another. I
have 2 Taylors because I was outbid for one on Ebay so I bid and won
another. Then the person that outbid me for the first retracted his
bid and I won that too. If you know anyone that needs a Taylor for
        their collection; let me know.

Yeah, The great star Beverly Garland!  I knew that.
She'd be my first choice to fill in for Kim Hunter as Zira.

I always leave stuff out of my collection descriptions.
Not the throw off would be Ape burglars, but because I've never catalogued it.

If so it should be north.  Or indoors with the A/C on full blast.
I hat to think of people walking around in that gear in the heat!
Maybe a museum made to look like the Great Zaius Museum.
And you could have it on mannequins.  And maybe have the
Ticket taker and tour guide made up as apes.  The guards
could be gorillas.  I'd try to make that trip every year!

Funny, but as much as I hate the new movie I wouldn't call it exactly a flop.  It's made money but everyone knows it stinks.  I guess that's a kind of flop, but still I don't like thinking it was a flop, just not very good.  At least it's made the original look that much better.

I bought a pop gun (that no collector ever knew existed until it appeared on
ebay) in mint condition for about $250. This guy must have had about 50 of
        them and
now they appear on ebay for about $25. ARRRRGHHH!!!

Hey don't feel bad. I bid high on the then never seen Beneath Kim Hunter
photo. There must have been a shill jacking the price because it topped out,
and I ended up paying a three times or more as much for a now relatively
        common photo.

And there have been counterfeit items as well. I had suspected that they
were forgeries. But you can't always tell from an eBay pic. I even told the
seller I though the signatures were fake, and he swore up and down he
obtained them in person. I though well maybe it was a bad day...my signature
doesn't come out exact every time. But Kim confirmed that they were not her
signatures. I keep them around as oddities. One in particular...How many
people have a forgery of Kim's Sardie's caricature?
