There was a re-issue floating around a few years

been modified and not a direct reprint. I kind of avoided collecting the various
posters ( no room to display them plus they're pretty expensive ). I have 22x28s

*** MARVEL didn't have the rights to portray the likenesses of the
actors--at least, that's what they said. I always wondered how GOLD
KEY did get those rights, since it's evident that their artist traced
over still shots from the movie, and yet MARVEL didn't.
Some of the MARVEL artists were less qualified to draw POTA comics
(Herb Trimpe comes to mind); however, Mike Ploog's work was perfect in
their "Terror on the POTA" series. Tom Sutton's stuff on "Future
History Chronicles" was great, I thought, given that it was a part of
the "planet" that we never saw on screen, and wasn't bound by the
visual imagery we'd gotten used to.
The artists who did the movie adaptations did fair work, as long as
you don't particularly care about absolute fidelity to the images on
screen: they weren't working from stills--they were making comics
based on the screenplays (which seems to be why Alfredo Alcala's
portrayal of the underground city in BENEATH doesn't even remotely
resemble the movie, but DOES seem like information from Michael
Avallone's novelization, which was based on the screenplay). When
MARVEL "re-ran" their movie adaptations in their color comic
"Adventures on the POTA", they hired a colorist who obviously hadn't
seen any of the films. At one point Zaius is wearing a bright blue
jacket (!) and the chimps are dressed in red, if I recall correctly.
Yikes!

Seems fairly likely - it's always happening with comics, figures, etc.
Just a few years ago a comic company put out a tie-in to Waterworld,
but had to draw the main character differently because Costner refused
likeness permission.

ST. PAT'S SHOCK-JOCK INTER-LEWD
By PHILIP MESSING, MARIANNE GARVEY and HASANI GITTENS
---------------------------------------------------------------------
-----------
August 16, 2002 -- A Virginia couple was arrested yesterday for
public lewdness after allegedly having sex in St. Patrick's
Cathedral as part of an "Opie and Anthony" radio stunt that outraged
parishioners and church officials.
Also arrested was comedian Paul Mercurio, 40, who provided a running
on-air commentary of the sex act, which took place just five feet
away from worshippers praying on the Feast of the Assumption, a holy
day of obligation for Catholics.
Mercurio, who told cops he was a producer for the radio duo, was
charged with acting in concert with public lewdness.
Fans of the WNEW show said the stunt was part of the program's "Sex
for Sam" feature - which offers a prize to the couple having sex at
the riskiest location in the city.
A couple having sex in a church would get 25 points, according to a
list of 54 sites around the city seized from Mercurio. <.html

Dinorama: n. a small-scale representation of a scene with three-dimensional objects, viewed through a window.
Now, smarty boy, you go get out your Funk&Wagnall and tell everybody what a cyclorama is (such as seen in a movie you must have heard of "Forbidden Planet").

What's block mounted? When I was a kid I had my U.S. PLANET one-sheet dry mounted on foam core (what did I know?), then the idiot who mounted it trimmed the white boarder down -- I could have killed him, but I was just a kid. Luckily, I have three more, two linen-backed and one waiting to be.

BATTLE has to be the worst-represented Apes movie in terms of posters.
I have seen very few different designs, and most of them are terrible.
Here's one of the weird Italian ones that I love so much. (The wacky
designs and garish colours that probably deter lots of people just
seem to appeal to me!)
I guess this one is notable for having the Aldo-on-the-bus-roof

Someone copped the only "Beneath" set they
had, and I don't have the "Conquest" one yet. On that one you can put Zira's
head on Caesar's body and have a legit Natalie Trundy figure. There's also 4
POTA2001 sets but probably won't reach these shores. - - Jeff

Here's the French BATTLE poster. The art somehow seems better tinted red. The American poster makes the movie look cheap. (Oh yeah, it was.) Maybe if they'd tinted the battle scenes in the film red too the movie would be better.

Aussie daybills for all 5 ( 2 different for Planet) and a US one Sheet for Battle and that's about it. I like the 22x28s and I also like the window insert cards (which I don't have any of ).
Best,

You have a 22X28 from PLANET? Getting that poster was an obsession with me for a long time, but I finally got one on eBay. I have 22X28's of all except BATTLE, and I don't really care about BATTLE anything. I have the 3-sheet and six-sheet and the insert from PLANET but not any of the others.

I guess block mounting is similar to dry mounting.
The poster is glued flat to a sheet of fibre wood ( chip board ) that's cut to
size.

What's block mounted? When I was a kid I

the idiot who mounted it trimmed the white boarder down -- I could have killed

Eight in total - I got them all the other day, since they're finally
available at sensible prices. If only I'd known, I'd have done the
same with the other Medicom figures...

I think there's also an unwritten rule that any sci-fi film, once
translated into Italian, has to have a year in the title. Conquest
also has one (incorrect too, I think), Soylent Green had one, Escape
from New York, Bronx Warriors (oh God, remember that)...

I think that with the odd exception, the Japanese tend to make the
most spectacular posters. The designs are wild, and they always cram
so much detail into them. They always went wild with this sort of
stuff - anyone seen the promotional programmes they used to make?
They're nice too, I just wish I could read Japanese.

That's my main gripe too, and also the reason why it is so hard to
find a decent poster for BATTLE (thank God for the Japanese) - the
picture isn't just inaccurate, it's very badly illustrated. I can't
believe this picture made it past Fox's quality control - it is
postively amateur.

*** There's a site (at http://nationalgeographic.com/dinorama/) which
shows what a "dinorama" is: a DIORAMA about DINOSAURS, hence their
punning term connecting the two ideas. The prefix DINO- comes from the
Greek ("deino-", which transliterates into Latin as "dino-"). The
prefix DIA-/DIO- also comes from the Greek, and means "across" (as in
DIA-meter, DIA-gnostic, DIA-lectic, DIA-rrhea, etc.). Your definition
of a "Dinorama" above is actually the definition of a "Diorama" (as
they used to say on "LAUGH-IN", "Go look THAT up in your Funk &
Wagnall's!"). Your use of the word "dinorama" prompted my mention of
two famous movies involving dinosaurs, because that's what the word
"dinorama" would be in reference to: DINOSAURS.
--Smarty boy
P.S. "Everybody" doesn't need ME to tell 'em what a 'cyclorama' is.
Hmmm... would a 'psychlorama' be a small-scale reproduction of a scene
from Travolta's lame cinematic adaptation of L. Ron Hubbard's
"BATTLEFIELD EARTH"? Travolta's ridiculous platform shoes in that dog
of a film went out of style around 1978! <.html

Oh, leave Patrick alone. He caught me in a mistake when I foolishly tried to best his obvious intellectual superiority, and I deserve everything I get from him. In fact, I've been thinking. . . remember when Patrick told us that the little boy ape in PLANET is named Quentin, and not the Quintus we've all heard for the past few decades? Maybe he's right. And remember when he wrote that because John Huston as the Lawgiver in BATTLE doesn't look anything like the Lawgiver statue in PLANET that they can't be the same Lawgiver? Well, I think maybe we should now start to take Patrick seriously and treat him with more respect and, in deference to Patrick's amazing mind, I'm beginning to believe that the Monster in FRANKENSTEIN MEETS THE WOLFMAN has
to be a different one than in the first FRANKENSTEIN, they don't look alike at all, and that therefore there must be more than one James Bond and Charlie Chan, not to mention Jack Ryan and Tarzan (Oops, I just did.), and I ask you how can the egg possibly come from the chicken? And what about the man from the ape!! Think about it. Now, I feel I must let Patrick alone and allow him the peace he needs so that, I'm sure, on this day off from whatever he does for a living, he can give himself a much needed and refreshing enema. . . . IN ORDER TO CLEAR HIS MIND!!!!!
Thank you,

Yes indeed, that's Francesca from "Mad Monster Party?" One of my favorite movies too. I saw it when it first came out and thought it was crap. I still think it's not very good, but pieces of it are good and the score is fun, and now it's nostalgic crap so I bought the new DVD of it. It looks great, they used a very clean print.

You probably didn't notice, but at the very end of the movie Francesca's voice is supposed to say "Yeeeeah!" It's on the CD and the trailer on the DVD, and the new VHS (So I've read on the net.), but on the DVD it's cut off. What's up with that?
