Yeah, Cosby had creative differences with
the director. But they say it'll be back. Let's just say Fox is not Franchise
City right now so they'll be dusting off "Apes" sometime soon. I just HOPE
someone is working on a script right now and they don't just say, "OK, we need a
script in 3 months". But they always do. Etc. - - - Jeff

Hi Tim, Welcome to the group. Spooky that you should
happen to join today, of all days. I have a pretty extensive collection
also and have most of the items you mentioned. I've been collecting for
about 12 years now but have gotten to the point where anything I don't have
is too expensive for me to buy anyway ( the Aussie $ is only worth 54 U.S.
cents..ouch!). If you can view PC pics, let me know and I can post some if
you like. Best, KEN ----- Original Message ----- From: "apefan23"

Don't forget one thing, with each sequel, the
budgets got smaller and smaller. They didn't have too much money to design
new ape costumes for each movie.

Even if that were the case you
could subtract 300 more years and the orangutan suit design would still be
900 years old. And if it is 900 years old it could easily be 2000
years old. We don't know what Jesus looked like but no one depicts
him wearing a modern business suit.

I imagine almost no one today
would be able to understand someone speaking English from 2000 years ago,
or even 1000 years ago.

Cut the sequels some slack.
The point is that PLANET has flaws just like the sequels do.
It was PLANET, not BATTLE, which first established that the suit designs
may be very, very old. And it is PLANET which depicts no language
changes in 2000 years of time. But since these movies are works of
fiction, I can accept that the apes language and fashions, like
their technology, could remain static for 2000 years because it was
established that way by the writers. The ape's social conservatism
was probably intended to fit in with their political
conservatism.

Not meaning any offense to you guys who collect this stuff, but I just want to get it out that a lot of the "POTA collectibles" kind of depress me. .htmlThe SciFi Site - Planet of the Apes Chronological History
A Chronological History of The
PLANET OF THE APES
For purposes of continuity, the chronology takes place as
close to our own time as possible and then works forward.
This Apes Chronology was first printed in 1975 in Marvel Comics' Planet of
the Apes comics magazine (Issue #11). It was provided by NetTrekker, who beefed
up the passing references to how they described filmed events. It also features
Marvel's Apes stories in the timeline. NetTrekker integrated the animated
series, fit into the timeline. The Adventure Comics stories are not included,
but hopefully they will in time. RogerApple has added the film, TV, and comic
references where appropriate.
1972
February: Astronauts Taylor, Dodge, Landon and Stewart are launched on the
first interstellar exploration flight. (Planet of the Apes)
November: Astronauts "Skipper" and Brent are launched along the same
flight path as the previous vessel to probe its unexplained disappearance from
detection. (Beneath the Planet of the Apes)
1973
April: The first vessel reappears mysteriously within nearby space. It
lands off the California coast, slightly north of San Clemente and is met my
mobilized United States Navy spaceflight recovery crews. The capsule is found to
be piloted by three speaking chimpanzees who identify themselves as Doctors
Cornelius, Zira and Milo. The apes are taken to the Los Angeles Zoo, where Milo
is killed by a primitive gorilla. Cornelius and Zira are brought before a
scientific inquiry and are accepted as friends of the planet Earth.
(Escape From the Planet of the Apes)
June: Through underhanded interrogation and analysis of the spacecraft,
Doctor Victor Hasslein learns of the ultimate fate of the human race and the
planet Earth. He convinces the President that the apes are a threat to
Humankind. Cornelius and Zira are taken to a military base for further
interrogation. After escaping, they flee to a circus where Zira, now pregnant,
gives birth to the baby Milo. Shortly thereafter, Cornelius and Zira are killed,
and Milo begins his long education under the care of Armando, the owner of the
circus. (Escape From the Planet of the Apes)
1973
to 1981
Eight complex years marked by contradictory developments in two aspects of
society. Space exploration expands. Unmanned space probes range to the stars and
back. Manned flights over greater distances are becoming more common. At the
same time however, the governments of Earth are becoming more totalitarian in
order to cope with increasing economic, political and energy pressures. All
information concerning the two lost spaceships and the secrets of the future as
revealed by Cornelius and Zira is locked away under heavy security clearance.
Few are allowed access to it. Publicly, it is spread that the two talking
chimpanzees were merely a hoax, and nothing more. Armando gives Milo the name of
"Caesar."
1979
August: Astronauts Allen, Hudson and Franklin are launched from Earth.
Their vessel enters a strange energy distortion and disappears. (Animated
Planet of the Apes)
1981
March: Astronauts Virdon, Burke and Jones are launched from Earth. Their
ship encounters a strange electrical storm near Alpha Centauri and disappears.
Caesar, aged 8 1/2, begins his bareback riding acrobatics with Armando's circus.
With political repression, the smaller circuses are forced to play to dwindling
country audiences, thus helping Caesar avoid dangerous publicity. (Planet
of the Apes TV)
1984
The year of the Plague from space. Possibly brought back to Earth by an
unmanned space probe (Many records were lost in the War), the Plague spreads
over the planet in weeks, killing all cats and dogs. "Apparently" harmless to
humans and other animal species.
1984 to 1991
It is during this period of time that the repercussions of the Plague begin
to be felt. Humans, to replace their lost pets, turn to keeping small primates,
birds, lizards, etc. The primates are found to be the most useful and gradually
become the most common household animal. Gradually, larger and larger ones are
taken in. It is in this generation of primates that the Plague's genetic effects
show themselves: stature increases and so does intelligence in the larger
orders. The Government increases to be more and more authoritarian. A reverse
migration of people from suburbs into cities results in large towns becoming
mostly feudal ports surrounded by farmland; the "provinces." Pollution in many
areas is brought under control. A massive air purification plant in the Rockies
keeps California air perfectly clean. However, with this increase in
governmental structure a slave class develops: the apes. Ape Management,
Incorporated becomes a semi-public branch of the Government in late 1989. By
1991 they are a monolith, now fully government operated, with a huge range of
responsibilities. The apes' training and day-to-day life with humans brings
on an acceleration in the mental development of the apes.
1991
April: Armando decides that Caesar, now nearly eighteen and an
accomplished performer, is old enough to see the truth of the "ape condition."
He brings the circus to play at an unnamed city on the west coast (very likely
San Francisco). There, Caesar unwittingly reveals his intelligence to police
officers engaged in subduing a rebellious gorilla. Caesar runs and Armando goes
to the Governor, attempting to bluff their way out of the situation. He is
arrested. The Governor, fully believing that the runaway chimpanzee possesses
human intelligence, is almost panic-stricken at the thought of ape rebellion.
Caesar, in an attempt to blend in with the other apes, hides with a shipment of
apes going to Ape Management. There, he is conditioned, though he understands
the process and avoids the harsher punishments. He is purchased by Governor
Breck, who is unaware of his prize. After learning of Armando's death as a
result of interrogation about him, Caesar begins to plant the seeds of rebellion
in the clouded minds of the apes. (Conquest of the Planet of the
Apes)
June: Eighteen years after his birth, Caesar comes of age at the head of
the Ape Rebellion. The fall of Humankind begins. (Conquest of the Planet
of the Apes)
June 1991 to late 1992
Caesar leads his people from the city into the provinces. In this case, the
San Francisco peninsula. Here, Caesar attempts to build a new home for his
people with the aid of a few human advisors. Massive educational programs within
the community are developed. They face little harassment because elsewhere in
the country and perhaps the world, the Ape Rebellion is spreading. The
Government's breakdown has begun and it cannot police itself as in the past.
Tension grows, until...
1992
December: NUCLEAR WAR. The work of a single madman? International
political pressure? Some country taking advantage of a U.S. governmental
paralysis? Unknown. It is swift and effective. Laser defensive systems prevent
the war from utterly destroying all life. Major cities are destroyed, but
surrounding areas remain livable... to a certain degree.
1992 to 2001
The human population that remains is in a state of shock. There is little or
no communication over great distances, so Caesar's community, now completely
isolated, accepts the survivors in its area and a new ape/human society begins
to grow. Despite Caesar's wishes, humans become effectively second-class
citizens, and cultural divisions among the apes begin to develop. A gorilla
named Aldo declares himself General and begins to train an "army" of gorilla
soldiers. In 1995, Caesar's son is born by his wife, Lisa, and named
Cornelius. During this time residual radiation is having its effect on both
humans and apes. The Plague-altered genes of the apes increase their already
rapid intellectual development, in some cases (i.e., Virgil and Mandemus)
incredibly so. Humans tend to become more docile, less given to action when
angered. It is not clear at this time whether that is a radiation effect, Plague
effect or just living with the evolved apes, the weakest of whom could kill the
average human easily. Meanwhile, another branch of Humanity is developing:
the ones that survived the War but stayed in the cities, the Mutants. Inspector
Kolp, a former aide to Governor Breck, has taken over in the remains of San
Francisco and runs a scavenger city full of repressed hate.
2001
December: Caesar, along with Virgil and a human, MacDonald, venture to the
remains of San Francisco in search of the tapes made of Cornelius and Zira,
thereby unlocking the secrets of the future. They are discovered by Mutants and
just barely escape. However, they are followed back to Ape City. Kolp launches
an attack on Caesar's community in a last-ditch effort to destroy the Ape
Rebellion. The attack is repelled by the apes. The humans living in the Ape City
win a slightly ideological victory and temporary equal status with the apes.
Kolp, Aldo and young Cornelius die. (Battle for the Planet of the
Apes)
2001 to 2040
This, the first Ape City, grows. Caesar rules benevolently and well but human
position in the community continues to erode, seemingly without solution. The
Forbidden Zone begins to become a real danger as animal and plant mutations get
out of hand. In the city of San Francisco, the Mutants are splitting into
factions under the leadership of Mendez and the being destined to become One
with the Gesalt Mind.
2038
August: Lisa dies.
2040
May: Caesar dies, at 67. Not survived by children, his rule is turned over
to a council of apes and humans under the leadership of a particularly
well-respected orangutan. He and the office are christened "Lawgiver."
2040 to 2052
Conditions between apes and humans get worse. While educational programs
maintain that there is no difference, humans labor under an aura of inferiority.
Voluntarily, they tend to withdraw from active participation in the council and
draw themselves into a community-within-the-community, separated by a river from
the apes. It is only partially a ghetto. The level of culture is falling. In
the city, the Mutant factions have gone to war with one another, the followers
of the Gesalt Mind winning out. Mendez and his loyal followers manage to escape
into transnational transport tubes and work their way towards an unknown new
home. They take with them the Alpha-Omega device, which has begun to carry an
almost religious significance with it.
2052
Jason the human and Alexander the chimpanzee are born. (Marvel Comics
Planet of the Apes)
2052 to 2069
A gorilla named Brutus rises to a position of power in the Ape City
hierarchy. He is appointed Peace Officer under the second Lawgiver. Jason and
Alexander become friends. Human position grows slowly but steadily worse.
(Marvel Comics Planet of the Apes)
2069
July: General Brutus' scouts encounter the Inheritors in caves near the
Forbidden City. Brutus investigates and becomes ally/underling of the Gesalt
Mind in a power ploy aimed at taking control of Ape City. The original scouts
are "persuaded" to forget what they saw. (Marvel Comics Planet of the
Apes)
2070
Jason, Alexander and the Lawgiver are embroiled in a conflict with the
Inheritors. At the same time they begin to get a hint of what is happening in
the world outside Ape City's tiny boundaries. A man/ape mute mutation has begun
to live in the Forbidden Zone, some serving as slaves of the Mutants. Gigantic
animals roam everywhere. Many small, semi-nomadic communities of apes and humans
also exist, each as isolated as the others. In certain of these, a startling
equity of apes and humans has developed. But, can it last? (Marvel Comics
Planet of the Apes)
2070 to 2220
A large leap of time that can only roughly be filled in. Both ape and human
cultures expand into the Forbidden Zones, taming them as population needs
demand. However, these cultures tend to isolate and grow bitter towards one
another. Humans, devolving due to the radiation, are becoming more barbaric. A
sudden, fierce strain develops out of the docility in evidence just after the
War. Clearly, the human and gorilla armies are in their way to war. n this
period, Mendez's mutant groups have reached what was once New York City and have
established themselves there. Mixture of their bloodline with the local mutants
begins to produce rudimentary telepathic powers.
2220
October: Gorilla and human armies slaughter one another in battle thirty
or forty miles north of San Francisco. Two survivors, Solomon the gorilla and
Jovan the human, form an uneasy but necessary truce. They are healed and taught
by the hermit man/ape Mordecai and meet their death in San Francisco at the
hands of the animalistic ape and human mutants. This is the balancing point
in the history. It is where the human devolvement coincides with the ape
evolution most clearly. It is also the last gasp of human aggressiveness.
2220 to 2750
Humans are defeated and become, primarily, a slave culture tolerated but
completely unrespected by the apes. Gorillas dominate the apes now, and it is an
age of exploration. Populations push out in all directions. Land is tamed and
with slave help, cultivated. New outposts are set up and contact is made with
other surviving groups from the War. Not a few minor wars are caused by gorilla
aggressiveness. On the whole, however, a peaceful time as energies are channeled
into retaking a world. The cultural heritage of Caesar's Ape City gains a
widespread usage and regional governments are often designed after the
Lawgiver/Council mold. Some bands of renegade humans do exist and continually
harass ape outposts.
2750
One particularly daring raid into a fairly large ape population causes an
outraged public cry from the apes. Systematic destruction of the outlaw bands is
instituted. The Lawgiver of the day (whether only a regional level Lawgiver or
more is unknown) writes the Sacred Scrolls and their rather unflattering
portrait of Humanity.
2750 to 3085
The general spread of the Sacred Scrolls proves to be a reactionary move, and
their influence reinstates the earlier days of isolation. When growth has slowed
in the previous century, orangutans take more and more of the power formerly in
the hands of the gorillas. Now they rule completely. The loss of
communication between population centers is slow at first but speeds up when
Forbidden Zones start to become unlivable again. This time, it is largely
the result of poor conservation techniques. The radiation-blasted soil starts to
give up and the deserts, as deserts, bloom. Humankind grows completely
docile. Cultural patterns in the isolated areas retain shards and snippets of
others. Thus, one area might continue to have the Lawgiver officer while another
might operate completely differently. The Ape City near New York City becomes
isolated in this period after its incorporation into the Pan American Ape
Society in the previous growth period. It was not a colony of the first Ape
City, but developed independently and therefore does not have an historical
record that accurately chronicles the west coast developments.
3085
June: Astronauts Alan Virdon and Peter Burke crash-land but survive
(unlike their fellow astronaut) in the region of the United States that was once
southwestern California. At this time the ape government which rules over most
of the area is an orangutan faction headed by Doctor Zaius. General Urko, a
gorilla, works cooperatively with him, with continual "reminding" that Zaius is
in charge. Urko chafes at the situation. To Zaius and Urko, the constant threat
of the renegade astronauts starting a human rebellion leaves the apes with the
task of apprehending and executing them. The astronauts gain the chimpanzee
Galen as a friend and traveling companion. Between them they leave a few traces
of twentieth century human culture, like certain agricultural and farming
techniques, that don't do much good for the humans but eventually serve to
advance ape civilization. Virdon, Burke and Galen have fates as yet untold.
(TV Planet of the Apes)
3085
to 3479
The fall of Humankind is complete. By approximately 3400, the combination of
radiation deterioration and general demoralization succeeds in wiping the minds
from Humanity. They are forced away from the ape cities as unproductive and
useless animals. They begin to live in the forests, wild.
3479
February: Astronauts Bill Allen, Jeff Hudson and Judy Franklin crash-land
in a lagoon southwest of New York. While traversing the desert, Franklin
disappears into a chasm that mysteriously closes in on itself. Allen and Hudson
continue on to find a forested glade inhabited by savage humans. In a raid by
gorilla soldiers, Allen is captured along with several of the primitive humans.
Shortly thereafter, he escapes and along with Hudson, returns to the Forbidden
Zone. There, they discover the now buried ruins of New York City. After finding
Franklin, they escape the mutants of the city. It is unknown as to what
eventually became of the astronauts. (Animated Planet of the
Apes)
3479
to 3955
Continually encroaching Forbidden Zones have brought on a complete Dark Age.
Progress slows to a halt in some areas, like the New York Ape City. There, all
knowledge that humans once had a major civilization is lost. It becomes mere
legend, and then almost nothing at all. It is either lost or concealed by
conservative orangutans. Progressive chimpanzee elements are stifled. Late in
this period humans begin to be used as experimental animals and entertaining
hunting diversions for the gorillas. A certain instinctive survival pattern
remains in the humans but it is less than successful.
3955
March: The spacecraft containing three surviving males (Taylor, Dodge and
Landon), along with one dead female (Stewart), crash-lands in an inland sea
somewhere in the area south of what was once Long Island. Land masses have
shifted so that is no longer ocean. The astronauts journey across the barren
desert to a forested area, where they find representatives of what was once the
human race. In a gorilla raid, Taylor and Landon are captured but are separated,
and Dodge is killed. Taken to Ape City, Doctors Zira and Cornelius discover
Taylor's intelligence. The council perceives this as a threat and makes plans to
exterminate the human. During a mock trial, Taylor discovers that Landon has
undergone brain surgery, leaving him a mental vegetable. Zira and Cornelius take
Taylor and his female companion, Nova, into the Forbidden Zone to the site of an
archeological expedition conducted by Cornelius. Taylor and Nova escape from
Zaius and the gorilla patrols farther into the Forbidden Zone. There, Taylor
discovers that he has in fact returned to Earth. (Planet of the
Apes)
July: Ape City is awash in political undercurrents. Zaius has succeeded in
quashing the ripples caused by Taylor's appearance and abilities, but General
Ursus, campaigning for war, is beyond his control. Several scouts are lost in
the Forbidden Zone not long after Taylor disappears and war is on. There is also
a chimpanzee undercurrent, and while pretending to go along with Zaius,
Cornelius and Zira have secretly been aiding the genius chimpanzee Doctor Milo
in his studies of a rescued spacecraft, the one Taylor had arrived in. He is
analyzing it and attempting to ready it for flight. They plan to use it as the
kind of traumatic evidence they feel Ape City needs to escape the total loss of
the light of Truth.
September: Brent's ship lands. He is the only survivor. He encounters
Nova, lost after Taylor's strange disappearance at the ruins of New York City.
After an encounter with Zira, Cornelius, the gorillas and Ape City, Brent and
Nova travel to the Forbidden City in search of Taylor. (Beneath the Planet
of the Apes)
Brent's arrival plus two days: THE END. The Alpha-Omega bomb,
originally stored in the vaults of a San Francisco missile complex and cherished
by twenty generations of the House of Mendez, is detonated while in Saint
Patrick's Cathedral in the ruins of New York City. The end of
everything. A catalytic reaction spreads across the globe in minutes.
Shockwaves of the blast are sent into space and strike the spacecraft containing
Doctors Milo, Cornelius and Zira. The ship is thrown into a time warp, cast back
to.... (Beneath the Planet of the Apes)

episodes from the 1974 series is a treasure for anyone who is a fan of the

First let me say I believe this is the
first time ever 20th century fox has released the t.v. series on home
video, and better yet--it's on DVD! This television series I feel is very
underrated. I watched this show when I was a kid and I felt all the
episodes were very worthy short stories. The series is about two
astronauts that wind up on the PLANET OF THE APES! The series timeline is
supposed to be a few thousand years before the first movie! The astronauts
are played by RON HARPER & JAMES NAUGHTON! Of course, RODDY MCDOWALL
plays Galen and MARK LEONARD(Sarek of "STAR TREK")plays Urko, leader of
the gorrila apes. Every episode is done very well and should be in your
collection if you're a fan of THE PLANET OF THE APES at all. One of the
episodes even has a young MARC SINGER(V, THE BEASTMASTER)! All in all, a
very fine series, despite what the critics thought at the time! Buy it
today!
AT Last, the wait is over Ape fans! 20th
Century Fox has released the Planet of the Apes TV series on DVD! This DVD
release is outstanding. No more cut up reruns on Sci-Fi, no more compiled
2 hour versions with cut out parts and worn out dark film. Here they are
in clear, crisp, format like they were ment to be seen. I bought 4 of the
VHS sets from Austraila a few years ago when Fox released them over there.
(Still have one entire set sealed. Any one want to buy it?) I thought that
that would be the best I would ever get them but the DVD's blow the VHS
out of the water. As far as some of the complaints about the occasional
white specks, I own The Deception and the 2 hour compiled made for TV
movie Back to the Planet of the Apes (Escape from Tomorrow and The Trap)
on 16MM film. They have the same specks. I think that maybe Fox used lower
quality film for TV. (The Adam West and Burt Ward Batman series does the
same thing.)Just be happy that Fox finally released them after all of
these years. Now if we could just get them to release the anamiated Planet
of the Apes TV series we would be set!
I just barely remember this series on TV
when I was a kid. I remembered no episode plots or details, only the fact
that there was a series. But being a fan of the movies (sans the recent
Tim Burton fiasco) I decided to see how well the series holds up.
I
was pleasantly surprised that the episodes, having been produced in the
70's, were quite entertaining. I've watched all the episodes and not once
found myself skipping scenes. I truly enjoyed watching -- enough so that I
purchased it after renting first.
Since this is a period series,
albeit in the future, it holds up pretty well. There are things in the old
city ruins and onboard the spaceship in the pilot that give away the time
period in which the show was made, but it doesn't detract from the
enjoyment of the show. A real plus for PotA movie fans.

You see, I blame Marvel for really warping some APES fans' mind. Where do they get this stuff? As far as I'm concerned their timeline is bullshit, especially since they include their own comic adventures. This is not a legit POTA film series timeline stuff. It's contaminated crap by geeks at Marvel who are probably collecting Social Security by now. I just don't accept it. It's fun to read if you're into nostalgia over the Marvel comics, but they came after the film series, and I think part of the devolution of the POTA phenomenon.

I collect because I did when I was a kid and I loved POTA, and
therefore wanted everything I owned to have logos. When I played
with dollies I wanted them to be apes dollies.
Some of the stuff is crap and far removed, but there was a lot of
great stuff too. I would have killed to have a POTA Transistor Radio!
When I got older I decided that if I have the movies, why would I
need stills, photos, books, lobby cards etc. Luckily I grew out of
this!

I remember back in the seventies that I bought the POTA board game mostly for the pictures. I also bought the color forms. I used to like them when I was little. I also thought the garbage can with the Statue of Liberty on it was cool too and had one of those. I also had all the Addar models.
I've kept none of it. Over the years it simply had to go. I could bring it with me here, bring it with me there. If my family had lived in a big house and were still there, it'd all be up in the attic, but alas most of our families aren't the Brady Bunch.

TV when I was a kid. I remembered no episode plots or details, only the
fact that there was a series. But being a fan of the movies (sans the
recent Tim Burton fiasco) I decided to see how well the series holds
up.
I was pleasantly surprised that the episodes, having been
produced in the 70's, were quite entertaining. I've watched all the
episodes and not once found myself skipping scenes. I truly enjoyed
watching -- enough so that I purchased it after renting
first.
Since this is a period series, albeit in the future, it
holds up pretty well. There are things in the old city ruins and onboard
the spaceship in the pilot that give away the time period in which the
show was made, but it doesn't detract from the enjoyment of the show. A
real plus for PotA movie fans.

man !! I have alot of catching up to do so I'll throw in my
comments before I have to get to work.....not sure who said what
but...
T, I believe, no problem about the hazel eyes thing...they always
looked blue to me but they were beautiful and sparkling
regardless....from your pics it looks like you knew Kim very well
so this must be particularly hard on you....i am so sorry. How did
you meet her? would love to see more pics of you two...and
would like to know anything about where to send cards and
such....
I will have to look for 9/11 in Beneath.....spooky.....
I am not 23 years old......23 is a lucky number...was born on
september 23.......
The collectible discussion...I started collecting in 1974 when all
this crap was coming out because I had just recently seen most
of the movies and was so into them and then the series and the
toys and MAN was I flyin'!! I kept it all in a big box that had been
floating around from my parents attic to a warehouse.....then
when I decided just a few years ago to get rid of my warehouse
storage space i opened this box and was swept over with a wave
of nostalgia ...i had kept things in pretty good shape and that Ape
euphoria just hit me again.....started going online...ebay etc....just
to see if any of this stuff was worth anything...and discovered it
was...but then started seeing all the stuff I wanted then but never
got (of course it wan't 47 cents anymore either!)...that did it and
so my collection has blown into this obsession.......i know that
most of it is just cheap plastic hong kong crap...but if it has THE
logo or any pics on it.....I gotta have it!!! (it has to be official
APJAC /20thCF licensed stuff...no Japanese rip offs for me
thanks...)
The rarer things i consider to be the stuff that shows up very very
rarely on ebay...like the bath mat or the drumset.....It is wierd that
something will surface like kites or iron ons and then all of a
sudden they are everywhere.....I'll take some pics of my ape
room and post them soon.....
.UNFORTUNATELY this crappy new movie (and I am not tim
Burton by the way.....i don't think I'd be calling the movie crap!)
used THE logo so I started getting stuff from it before I saw the
movie...and still get some new stuff but mostly just dealing with
Thade and Attar ....
Before july 27 2001 i was very much looking forward to the film
and the official website was full of very cool insight into the ape
world and mythology and production designs and GREAT
stuff....then they threw all that out the window when they
filmed.....! oh well.......
what else haven't I covered....i'm not sure yet of all the distinctive
personalities of all the members here but that will take
time....like I said I'm just glad to talk to people that even know
what a Hasslein theory or Grapejuice Plus are!
Have a great day fellas (and ladies? any ladies?) and I'll catch
youze later.......

Boy you 2 timeline theory people are getting desperate, making up
quotes. Here's Dehn biograghy, it doesn't mention him having a son.
"Paul Dehn
Born 5th. November, 1912, in Manchester, Britain; died 30th.
September, 1976.
British film critic, writer, poet, librettist, screenwriter.
Full name: Paul Edward Dehn.
His parents were Helen and Frederick Dehn. He was James Agate's
godson.
He went to Shrewsbury School and Brasenose College, Oxford
University.
From 1936 to 1939 he was a film critic and columnist for the Sunday
Referee.
During the Second World War he served as a major in the Special
Forces from 1939 to 1945.
From 1945 to 1953 he was a film critic for the Sunday Chronicle.
In 1949/50 he met the composer James Bernard with whom he started a
professional relationship but who also became his life partner. Paul
Dehn asked James Bernard to collaborate with him on the original
screen story for the Boulting Brothers film Seven Days To Noon,
(1950). For this Paul Dehn and Jame Bernard shared the 1952 Academy
Award for the Best Writing, Motion Picture Story.
He was a film critic for the News Chronicle from 1954 to 1960, and
for the Daily Herald from 1960 to 1963. He then concentrated on his
writing for the film and theatre. In addition to the work listed
below he wrote many songs and sketches for West End reviews. In 1957
he received the Cheltanham Festival Poetry Prize.
His hobby was ornithology and for a while he was a councillor for
the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB). "

Yeah, I thought Zira had blue eyes. The legend is she's the only ape with
blue eyes because she's a mutant (they didn't make Kim wear contacts). It
didn't occur to me to check when I met her. - - Jeff

Subject: Tributes to Kim Hunter
.html
Attachments :
.htmlThese are some of the tributes to Kim Hunter left on the Ain't-it-cool website. I thought it 'ape'propriate that they be posted here.
She was one of the best at one time, then continued to amaze even below the radars. It is all about A STREETCAR NAMED DESIRE, though, and she deserves as much praise as she can get for that role.
I was just browsing through the archives when this popped up. Quite a shock, i bloody loved Kim Hunter. My best to her friends and family. I think we can all agree that she left her mark on the world.
She was a great actress, even in a junk film like THE KINDRED. For those not famailiar with this magnificent performer, rent or buy STREETCAR and PLANET. You can safely skip KINDRED unless you have a desire to see her playing a mad scientist.
she was great. Classy. Always gave better than the material deserved... Comment: ...at least as far's the Apes things went. Always felt she and Roddy were class thru and thru. Of course she will be missed.
It is always sad when someone reaches the end of their life, especially when they are so full of talent and energy. Kim Hunter was one of a kind. She will be missed, but we have so much to remember her by, and enjoy, until our time comes too.
she was scrumpdiliumptious Comment: yes, that's how i'd describe miss hunter. she rocked, even when slumming on love boat or colombo or some shit like that. when i was a little kid, i was TERRIFIED of zira. she soooo scared me. a girl ape with pretty eyes. it creeped me out. but i'm all grown up and i recognize with what immodest grace Hunter threw herself into that and other zippy roles. buh-bye.
Farewell to a superb actress. Kim Hunter and Zira live on! Comment: Kim Hunter was an amazing actress. She just felt so right for Zira portraying her as a smart, sometimes funny and capable of taking care of herself female ape scientist. She personified the character which is rare for an actor to do and she will be missed as she was one of the things that made the original Apes series so memorable.
This news today came as a shock to me because of a great coincidence. I watched "Streetcar" for the first time last night, and appreciated how great the casting was. I had never heard of Kim before but was enamored of her role as Stella. She wasn't conventionally beautiful, having a rather striking and fascinating presence that is rare on the screen. I checked her filmography and was dismayed that she wasn't able to land any more roles in really great films after receiving the Little Gold Man for "Streetcar". Then I fired up the internet today to find out she passed away. The feeling of discovering someone just before they pass into The Great Beyond is almost indescribable, except that you can say you had some sort of brief attachment to them before it was too late. It's as if you had a connection with them and were thus able to mourn them properly, the way they deserved. David Lean and Peter Sellers and so many more Greats from this industry passed away
during my lifetime and I failed to recognize the moment. To me they were distant names of the past whose time had come, until of course I became educated on their accomplishments and felt like I had missed the boat. Lucky for me, this time it was different. Rest in peace, and for anyone out there who hasn't seen A Streetcar Named Desire, for God's sake! Get off your ass and go out and rent it, and then get back on your ass and enjoy 2 hours of cinematic bliss.
She also starred with David Niven in "A Matter Of Life And Death" aka "Stairway To Heaven." Comment: Only one of the best movies ever made.
"Docter, I'd like to kiss you goodbye....Okay, but you're so damned ugly." Comment: Kim Hunter seems to be another of those great actor/actresses that people only realize how good a career they had after they have passed. I, of course like many other geeks grew up with the apes movies and will always have fond memories of her. Then again, I can't forget to mention her most pivotal role as the mother of Ronald in the tv cult classic, Bad Ronald...ah, the arts...Godspeed Ms. Hunter.
Zira! One of my heroes! Comment: I adored Kim Hunter when I was growing up. I used to listen to her on CBS Radio Mystery Theater and catch her in terrible TV movies like "Bad Ronald" because she was so wonderful. That she took it on the chin, career-wise, for the sake of being a decent human being only raises her in my esteem. She was a magnificent actress. God bless her.
In Honor of Kim's memory, I'll be wandering the streets tonight, screaming "Stella!" at the top of my lungs
Kim Hunter is a quiet legend lost. She transcended even Chambers' celebrated make-up and etched herself into permanent Americana.
Besides her stellar perfomances in "Streetcar" and "Planet Of The Apes" I also recall her chilling performance on an episode of the 1970s Tv series "Baretta". She played a crazed homeless woman who, convinced that Tony Baretta is her long lost son, handcuffs him to a radiator and holds him prisoner in a basement. I can still remember the eerie scene where she gently tells Robert Blake "You're going to die here". Still gives me a chill on this sunny, warm, beautiful day. Kim Hunter was a wonderful actress and a fine lady. She'll be missed by so many. Rest easy Ms Hunter.
I had forgotten how much TV work Kim Hunter did. She was always solid, always professional. She could take the smallest part and make it her own, but she never grandstanded or overshadowed her co-actors. She had real class and it shows even on the tiny screen.
A class act! Comment: I had the pleasure of working with Ms. Hunter and her husband, Bob Emmett, at Philly's Walnut Street Theatre in the late 90s. The woman glowed. She brought jaw-dropping professionalism and spirit to every rehearsal and performance. She will be missed tremendously. On the upside, she is now reunited with Bob. Rest in peace, you classy kids.

I've said it before and I'll say it again... Caesar and friends didn't
know about the clothes worn by Cornelius and Zira, they invented them
all by themselves and the designs remained in use for a couple of
thousand years, which is why Cornelius & Zira were able to be wearing
them. It's simple, it's all to do with the circular timeline - "it's
an obvious fact! Anyone with half a brain can see that!"

You know what, we've all argued before about where Conquest is, but it
can be laid to rest easily if we employ PMTiltonistic tactics and take
every little detail to be gospel. If we do, then this photo proves
conclusively where Conquest was set.

The problem is that not everybody uses the same method to access the
group, never mind the type of computer. I personally never visit the
actual Yahoo website for this group, I just get it plain old email
style. If I visited the website then I'm sure there would be somewhere

Anyone know how he's doing these days? He was ill recently and had to
cancel a few concerts that he was planning here in the UK.
(I'd already seen him in concert once and was looking forward to
seeing it again - as it happens they replaced the concert with Elmer
Bernstein and I enjoyed it all the same!)

I've read his letters in there, and they make sense.. He points out that the date shoulda always been 3978 (not 3955) and also, if I remember, he pointed out the cover drawings were messed up, (having gorillas holding M-16s rather than the correct ape style rifles..)<.html

Not totally unexpected.
I, for one, cherish each and every one of my autographs. Including those not
signed in person, those that address others, and even a couple of confirmed
forgeries. I think it's flattering that they think her autograph worth
faking. If I sell any of my collection they will more than likely be
unsigned duplicates. I was hurt, that some guy who could throw a ball pretty
good, got more coverage. But perhaps I'm over sensitized to it. There are a
lot of football fans out there. But since Jones ran the Cowboys into the

have eliminated quite a few photo options. Even the Marvel mag stopped using
shots of the human actors ( from the movies) after a couple of issues
for the same reason.I also think that at the time Fox just gave who ever had the
liscence to create stuff a bunch of images without really any specific

Yes Tim,
I did know her. Far better than she knew me actually. But that's
certainly understandable not being well know outside of Texas or DFW for that
matter. My father's the same age, and he'll tell me the same thing two weeks
in a row. So, having been a name on a letter, or a disembodied voice on the
telephone, I probably was not a very memorable figure in her life before we
met.
Luckily I was able to met her last year at the Memphis Film Festival.
I was surprised none of you were there, but I know many of you live in
coastal digs, east and west, or on the other side of the planet. However
since I'm more or less in the neighborhood, I couldn't let the opportunity
slide. I have more pictures of her, but not with her. I got those snapshots
out of the way the first day. And spent the rest of the time day after day,
going back through the line, getting her to sign four or five things, and
then getting back into the line again and again, until she went back to her
room. This went on the rest of the week, sometimes twice a day. Believe it
or not, I still have things I didn't bring that remain unsigned, but I though
I'd have another opportunity. Not that I constantly was handing her
something to sign. I'd see her around the hotel, in the elevator or the
restaurant, and not make a pest of myself. Though she did some Q & A
sessions on a panel, and after the screening of Streetcar. I didn't have
many unanswered questions so I didn't participate too much.
The last night we spent quite a bit of time together trying to sleep
in the lounge in the lobby of the hotel when the power went out. She wasn't
down there because she was an insomniac, like me. She's always been as
nervous as a cat, which is unusual for an actress. I hold the terrorists, at
least indirectly, responsible for her death. It's a tense time for everyone.
But her apartment isn't even a mile and a half from ground zero as the crow
flies.
I was worried about her last year when the phones were out. But I was
able to get through to her son, Sean Emmett, and he said that they didn't
evacuate passed 1st Street and that she was fine. Perhaps he was just
shining me on. I've only talked to Sean a few times. A decade ago, when I
was trying to get her phone number, he blew me off, but understandably so. I
hope he's not shining me on this time and will call back with the info, so
respects can be paid properly. Perhaps I'm on his pest list. I tried
calling the apartment hoping his older sister Kathryn was there, since she's
a lawyer and is probably directing her mother's affairs. But the number is
no longer in service -- also understandable. I don't know how to get ahold
of Kathy. She married David Rosen, and may still be -- or divorced and gone
back to her father's name Baldwin -- or remarried and have a completely
different last name by now -- who knows? If I don't get a call perhaps one
of the apes fans, someone better known, like Joe Russo, can get through. I
guess I could give you Sean's address, but inundating his house with flowers
might not be the thing to do.
This is getting quite long winded, but I'm trying to answer all your
questions as best I can. I hope I have. If I have missed something please
don't hesitate to ask.

Comments on the last 52 emails I just read......
I would LOVE to see the Baretta episode with Kim on it...any body
got it?
It always pissed me off when they would use any ape pic on an
item and then just throw some names on it...the
Caesar,Lisa,Cornelius tin can puzzle for instance claiming it was
Z/C&lucius....Even the trash can says that is Cornelius holding
the rifle when it is CLEARLY a background chimp from Battle I
saw in some lobby card or somewhere....The bastards just
thought that "all those damn apes look alike ...hell, the damn
kids won't know the diff".......Also just noticed the other day...(only
20 years too late!) that on the packages with 2 ape heads on
them like on the Pinball (see my photo album) there's a chimp
and an orang...always figured it was Zaius but now realiz it's the
Minister from Beneath!
Alot of the items like the Monkey Missiles and space
scopes...that stuff...DO have pics from Beneath on them...I guess
Franciscus didn't mind them using his likeness like Chucky
did...(Love the pic of Zira holding Nova's face as Brent looks
on)...
Is it wrong to say that I always kind of liked Brent better than
Taylor anyway...they both overacted like hell but i figured Brent
was pretty cool....you know back on earth...he'd be the one to call
up and say "hey man....let's go get a drink!" .....i think Nova
secretly wanted his child instead of Taylor's......(You know she
did'em both!)

No, that's pretty good speculation. I remember something about that at the time, that they couldn't use the human actor's likenesses on things. It's one of the reasons Taylor in the Marvel adaptation looks like, I don't know, somekind of asshole or something. Jethro from the Beverly Hillbillies. That was a big reason so much of the POTA toys had no appeal for me -- they were so much toys from PLANET, but BATTLE toys. Joe Russo told me that when he watches BATTLE he looks at it as a live action Mego movie.
