Not as good as it used to be. I guess that's
how I got her. Say "Hi" Morgan.
MORGAN: Hi Morgan.
Tell them why I'm your snuggle bunny.
MORGAN: Because you whisper those cute "Planet of
the Ape" movie lines in my ear.
So there you have it. - - - Jeff

Is it wrong to say that I always kind of liked Brent better than
Taylor anyway...they both overacted like hell but i figured Brent
was pretty cool....you know back on earth...he'd be the one to call
up and say "hey man....let's go get a drink!" .....i think Nova
secretly wanted his child instead of Taylor's......(You know she
did'em both!)
Hey, let's show some respect here! Nova didn't monkey around.
Check out this comment on Brent from IMDb.com. It's pretty funny.
jbirtel (jbirtel@...)
Date: 14 July 2002
Summary: Could Have Been Great! But boy! It Sucks to be Brent!
(Major Spoilers!!!) "Beneath..." has to rank as one of the meanest movies ever made in its treatment to its main character. Consider this...Brent wakes up to his space ship's crash landing, realizing it's 3955(?)[what happened to 3978?], so everyone he ever knew except Skipper is dead...then skipper dies too! He finds out that (gulp) apes rule, then gets shot for his discovery (same as Taylor). Is rewarded with white, stinging "vet" powder plentifully poured on his (still bleeding) gunshot wound, by Zira. Gets captured and sentenced to ape target practice; en route he gets an ape boot shoved into his larynx while said ape tries to pull his arm off. Escapes while apes on horseback fire their guns at him. Goes underground and realizes where he's at. Painful!...and the movie is only into its first 45 minutes. What else can happen to the poor guy? Well...as his mental stability starts heading toward the brink of insanity, he does some depressing
sight-seeing, watches helplessly as mind control forces him to near drown Nova, then face telepathic inquisitors who proceed to scare the crap out of him with a whoosh of fire, fry his ear drums with high pitch sound waves, thought-project agonizing, searing pain that contorts his whole body and again, he watches helplessly as he's forced to near suffocate (poor) Nova with a brutal passionless loo-oong kiss. Then!... he's required to sit still during mass (for some people, this is very painful) and realizes that everyone else in attendance is a replicant of "Gray's Anatomy". He then catches up with friend Taylor (finally)...and Taylor proceeds to beat the crap out of him too, by kicking him in the face and chest, strangling him, shoving his back into cell bars with long sharp spikes sticking out, mercilessly stepping on his face, strangling him some more and delivering some shattering right hooks to the jaw (all under mind control, of course). After the fight,
instead of friendly gossip, they realize they're about 100 yards away from an active bomb, not just any old bomb, but THE Doomsday Bomb. And they're trapped inside a locked cell. And an army of Militia Apes are attacking! Finally... escape! but Nova ain't coming. Back to the church, Brent witnesses Taylor (after spending the whole movie trying to locate him) get fatally shot, knows he's now alone and goes on a one man kamikaze assault with his one puny rifle against 100 gorilla sub machine guns. And if that ain't enough, THEN he runs out of ammo! And he doesn't even get the satisfaction of seeing Taylor's final efforts. What happens to him is what you'd want to see happen to the worst of villains, but not to the heroic character. After all this, it would have been better to stay in bed.

Damn! Damn! Damn! Makeup
Artist magazine had a contest to pick the top five greatest makeups and we
missed out on voting! It ended on Sept. 1st. I just saw the latest
issue at the newsstand. There was a great little picture of Dr. Zaius in
it I'd never seen before. In the next issue they'll announce the
winners. Chambers work better be up there.

I saw him do a Q&A at the Museum of TV
& Radio, Matt Stein went, the creator of the band "Ape Has Killed Ape". We
wanted autographs, Matt had a CD of the original POTA, I had Greene's book. They
kinda wisked him backstage so he wouldn't get asked for autographs (he did "Star
Trek", so the hounds were out). Matt and I went down to the parking garage and
there he was. Just us, Jerry, his GORGEOUS blonde wife or girlfriend about a
third his age and some guy assigned to him. I asked him to sign the book and
somehow he cut his finger (he told his wife/girlfriend "I'm bleeding!") but
always the trooper he signed it anyway. He tried not to get blood on the book so
it looked liked a kindergarten scribble. His limo arrived though, so Matt was
out of luck. But that was the funniest autograph I ' ve ever got. - - -

Mendez and his

You see, I blame Marvel for really
warping some APES fans' mind. Where do they get this stuff? As far
as I'm concerned their timeline is bullshit, especially since they include
their own comic adventures. This is not a legit POTA film series
timeline stuff. It's contaminated crap by geeks at Marvel who are
probably collecting Social Security by now. I just don't accept
it. It's fun to read if you're into nostalgia over the Marvel comics,
but they came after the film series, and I think part of the devolution of the
POTA phenomenon.

That's another one of those stupid lists.
The 15th anniversary issue of "Premiere" magazine is out and they have a list
"The Best DVDs of the last 15 years". That's pretty comprehensive since most
such lists limit themselves only to the last 5 years. Anyway, #4 is Burton's
"Batman" so you get the picture. Obviously they're not going by DVD quality,
extras, etc. Are they going by the movies themselves? - - Jeff

My name is Rich, Rory, and thanks for the
intro. I've been into the Planet of the Apes movies since I saw the first
one on the 4:30 movie on Channel 7 here in NYC. I like the movies the best,
although the novel wasn't bad for a Frenchmen. I've got vague memories of
the cartoon as a kid, and I look at the tv show as a starving man looks at an
appetizer.

It seemed to me the majority of the photos
were from "Battle" and the TV series. I don't think licensing was a problem, Fox
owned them all. Could be they were just newer, fresher in the memory, on top of
the stack, more kid oriented. I remember Marvel said they had to concentrate on
the TV show because they couldn't use human actors from the movies. It was
either apes or Virdon and Burke. Though there were exceptions in the early
issues. Etc. - - - Jeff

"All"??? There's not one photo on there from Planet, just an Escape photo, and

Which leads to my question to
anyone who may know... Why did they use SOOOO MANY photos from Escape and
Battle, (rather than Planet, Beneath, & Conquest?) on those toys, puzzles,
etc...? Were they cheaper to license or something? It certainly can't be from
a lack of photos from Planet, etc, as we all know there are plenty of
them...

Once again, Chuck lost out. Just as he now
says he could've made a lot of money doing sequels, today actors willingly let
their likenesses be used in merchandising, because they get a cut. Big stars
like Jim Carrey and Mike Meyers even go to the toy shows to stump. The money
stars make now is just horrendous. They make Chuck look like a pauper. - -

the same reason.I also think that at the time Fox just gave who ever had the
liscence to create stuff a bunch of images without really any specific
instructions. They would have had to go through all the stringent approval
processes that they do these days.I'm just speculating here. Best,

I used to live on Long Island in the sixties, so I remember the channel 7 4:30 movie. I moved upstate in '70 though, long before they began showing them, but when I lived in East Islip, L.I. for a year in '84 -- '85 I had a girlfriend and when I asked her if she like "Planet of the Apes" the first thing she said was "The 4:30 movie."
I saw PLANET when it first came out in '68 at a theatre in Wantagh on Long Island.

I wouldn't see that movie if you had Raquel Welch pointing a gun to my head.
I saw it (MY BIG FAT GREEK WEDDING). I don't think they'll do a sequel. It plays like a sitcom, so they'll probably turn it into a sitcom for real. Boy, the woman who wrote and stars in it is sure making a lot of money now. She'll make a lot more on her next screenplay.
As for your comment, Rich. Raquel is a little too old now, but the Raquel of the sixties. . . . She could do anything she wanted to me.

My name is Rich, Rory, and thanks for the
intro. I've been into the Planet of the Apes movies since I saw the
first one on the 4:30 movie on Channel 7 here in NYC. I like the movies the
best, although the novel wasn't bad for a Frenchmen. I've got vague
memories of the cartoon as a kid, and I look at the tv show as a starving man
looks at an appetizer.

I've said it before and I'll say it again...
Caesar and friends didn't know about the clothes worn by Cornelius and
Zira, they invented them all by themselves and the designs remained in use
for a couple of thousand years, which is why Cornelius & Zira were able
to be wearing them. It's simple, it's all to do with the circular timeline

Not totally unexpected.
I, for one, cherish each
and every one of my autographs. Including those not signed in
person, those that address others, and even a couple of confirmed
forgeries. I think it's flattering that they think her autograph
worth faking. If I sell any of my collection they will more than
likely be unsigned duplicates. I was hurt, that some guy who could
throw a ball pretty good, got more coverage. But perhaps I'm over
sensitized to it. There are a lot of football fans out there.
But since Jones ran the Cowboys into the ground, I've switched to
hockey. At least the Stars won a championship in recently
memory.

I don't think Chucky allowed for his likeness to
be used on merchandise ( except for the original movie gumcards ) so that
would have eliminated quite a few photo options. Even the Marvel mag stopped
using shots of the human actors ( from the movies) after a couple of
issues for the same reason.I also think that at the time Fox just gave who
ever had the liscence to create stuff a bunch of images without really any
specific instructions. They would have had to go through all the stringent
approval processes that they do these days.I'm just speculating
here.

Hey, let's show some respect here! Nova didn't

Check out this comment on Brent from IMDb.com.
It's pretty funny.
jbirtel
(jbirtel@...)
Date: 14 July 2002 Summary: Could
Have Been Great! But boy! It Sucks to be Brent!
(Major Spoilers!!!) "Beneath..." has to rank as one of the
meanest movies ever made in its treatment to its main character. Consider
this...Brent wakes up to his space ship's crash landing, realizing it's
3955(?)[what happened to 3978?], so everyone he ever knew except Skipper is
dead...then skipper dies too! He finds out that (gulp) apes rule, then gets
shot for his discovery (same as Taylor). Is rewarded with white, stinging
"vet" powder plentifully poured on his (still bleeding) gunshot wound, by
Zira. Gets captured and sentenced to ape target practice; en route he gets
an ape boot shoved into his larynx while said ape tries to pull his arm off.
Escapes while apes on horseback fire their guns at him. Goes underground and
realizes where he's at. Painful!...and the movie is only into its first 45
minutes. What else can happen to the poor guy? Well...as his mental
stability starts heading toward the brink of insanity, he does some
depressing sight-seeing, watches helplessly as mind control forces him to
near drown Nova, then face telepathic inquisitors who proceed to scare the
crap out of him with a whoosh of fire, fry his ear drums with high pitch
sound waves, thought-project agonizing, searing pain that contorts his whole
body and again, he watches helplessly as he's forced to near suffocate
(poor) Nova with a brutal passionless loo-oong kiss. Then!... he's required
to sit still during mass (for some people, this is very painful) and
realizes that everyone else in attendance is a replicant of "Gray's
Anatomy". He then catches up with friend Taylor (finally)...and Taylor
proceeds to beat the crap out of him too, by kicking him in the face and
chest, strangling him, shoving his back into cell bars with long sharp
spikes sticking out, mercilessly stepping on his face, strangling him some
more and delivering some shattering right hooks to the jaw (all under mind
control, of course). After the fight, instead of friendly gossip, they
realize they're about 100 yards away from an active bomb, not just any old
bomb, but THE Doomsday Bomb. And they're trapped inside a locked cell. And
an army of Militia Apes are attacking! Finally... escape! but Nova ain't
coming. Back to the church, Brent witnesses Taylor (after spending the whole
movie trying to locate him) get fatally shot, knows he's now alone and goes
on a one man kamikaze assault with his one puny rifle against 100 gorilla
sub machine guns. And if that ain't enough, THEN he runs out of ammo! And he
doesn't even get the satisfaction of seeing Taylor's final efforts. What
happens to him is what you'd want to see happen to the worst of villains,
but not to the heroic character. After all this, it would have been better
to stay in bed.

Thanks T for the info. She seemed very nervous at the 30th Ann. Ape Party;
after the screening she just took off. She was the first one to leave. She
autographed my book but even Eric Greene missed out. Maybe she had a fear of
crowds, whatever that's called.
More than likely she was just tired. Quite often she would go up to her room early to have a rest. When we were sitting in the dark in the lounge the last night, I could have talked to her till dawn, but I didn't say much. I wanted her to get some rest. I couldn't really sleep myself. Too worried about her having to sleep in public, so I just kept one eye open to watch over her. The PBS guy who, was sort of running the show, knew she was nervous and would appear out of the darkness from time to time and tell show biz stories, and bore her back to sleep. Didn't work on me though. I had to drive back to Big D without a wink, but I hardly slept all week anyway. Too excited! That and I've had one of those damned Sam's mattresses before -- they are awful! Kim was nice enough to offer me a Danish and orange juice before I had to hit the road. That and plenty of sugar and caffeine got be home
alright. And after a nasty email to Holiday Inn Select .com I got a refund back on the last night. I got a refund back on the first day of the festival as well. Those kooks thought including a flyer from last years fest would be a good idea and I showed up on Wednesday instead of Tuesday when it actually started. Just as well. I couldn't really afford to be there at all. But I wouldn't have missed it for the world! <.html

Yes
Tim,
I did know her. Far
better than she knew me actually. But that's certainly
understandable not being well know outside of Texas or DFW for that
matter. My father's the same age, and he'll tell me the same thing
two weeks in a row. So, having been a name on a letter, or a
disembodied voice on the telephone, I probably was not a very memorable
figure in her life before we met.
Luckily I was able to met her
last year at the Memphis Film Festival. I was surprised none of you
were there, but I know many of you live in coastal digs, east and west, or
on the other side of the planet. However since I'm more or less in
the neighborhood, I couldn't let the opportunity slide. I have more
pictures of her, but not with her. I got those snapshots out of the
way the first day. And spent the rest of the time day after day,
going back through the line, getting her to sign four or five things, and
then getting back into the line again and again, until she went back to
her room. This went on the rest of the week, sometimes twice a
day. Believe it or not, I still have things I didn't bring that
remain unsigned, but I though I'd have another opportunity. Not that
I constantly was handing her something to sign. I'd see her around
the hotel, in the elevator or the restaurant, and not make a pest of
myself. Though she did some Q & A sessions on a panel, and after
the screening of Streetcar. I didn't have many unanswered questions
so I didn't participate too much.
The last night we spent quite a bit
of time together trying to sleep in the lounge in the lobby of the hotel
when the power went out. She wasn't down there because she was an
insomniac, like me. She's always been as nervous as a cat, which is
unusual for an actress. I hold the terrorists, at least indirectly,
responsible for her death. It's a tense time for everyone. But her
apartment isn't even a mile and a half from ground zero as the crow
flies.
I was
worried about her last year when the phones were out. But I was able
to get through to her son, Sean Emmett, and he said that they didn't
evacuate passed 1st Street and that she was fine. Perhaps he was
just shining me on. I've only talked to Sean a few times. A decade
ago, when I was trying to get her phone number, he blew me off, but
understandably so. I hope he's not shining me on this time and will
call back with the info, so respects can be paid properly. Perhaps
I'm on his pest list. I tried calling the apartment hoping his older
sister Kathryn was there, since she's a lawyer and is probably directing
her mother's affairs. But the number is no longer in service -- also
understandable. I don't know how to get ahold of Kathy. She
married David Rosen, and may still be -- or divorced and gone back to her
father's name Baldwin -- or remarried and have a completely different last
name by now -- who knows? If I don't get a call perhaps one of the
apes fans, someone better known, like Joe Russo, can get through. I
guess I could give you Sean's address, but inundating his house with
flowers might not be the thing to
do.
This is getting quite long
winded, but I'm trying to answer all your questions as best I can. I
hope I have. If I have missed something please don't hesitate to
ask.

I saw it (MY BIG FAT GREEK WEDDING). I don't
think they'll do a sequel. It plays like a sitcom, so they'll probably
turn it into a sitcom for real. Boy, the woman who wrote and stars in it
is sure making a lot of money now. She'll make a lot more on her next
screenplay.
As for your comment, Rich. Raquel is a little too old
now, but the Raquel of the sixties. . . . She could do anything she wanted to

Hey, after what the PM of Canada said I'm ready to give that up as well. And after we've blown those terrorist nations back into the stone age we should turn our attentions to them! They're practically French ya know! As for the scorn of the more liberal members of the group. I am unconcerned. I am beyond their timid lying morality, and so I am beyond caring. Perhaps that's a bit harsh, but when I think of the strain they put on poor Kim's heart, I just go Berserk! Perhaps you know of The Sons Of Lee Marvin. It's a semisecret society started by Tom Waits, Jim Jarmusch, some others. All you have to do to join is look and sound a bit like Lee Marvin, and try and live like him. One of them was in a bar somewhere, and I guy walked up to them and said, "I know what you're doing. And I don't like it!" It was Lee Marvin's son. Well, I'm officially starting The Sons,
and daughters, Of Kim Hunter! All you have to do to be in is care. She cared. Cared about the things that really matter. Or at least she acted like she did. I couldn't tell the difference if she didn't. Damned good actress. So I guess you just have to act like you care. Someone has to begin to care! But I'm getting as long winded as Pat. everybody cut out early. Roddy, we now know, knew he was dying. Natalie told me

Thanks T for the info. She seemed very nervous at the 30th Ann.
Ape Party; after the screening she just took off. She was the first one
to leave. She autographed my book but even Eric Greene missed out. Maybe
she had a fear of crowds, whatever that's called.
More
than likely she was just tired. Quite often she would go up to her room
early to have a rest. When we were sitting in the dark in the lounge the
last night, I could have talked to her till dawn, but I didn't say much.
I wanted her to get some rest. I couldn't really sleep myself. Too
worried about her having to sleep in public, so I just kept one eye open to
watch over her. The PBS guy who, was sort of running the show, knew she
was nervous and would appear out of the darkness from time to time and tell
show biz stories, and bore her back to sleep. Didn't work on me
though. I had to drive back to Big D without a wink, but I hardly slept
all week anyway. Too excited! That and I've had one of those
damned Sam's mattresses before -- they are awful! Kim was nice enough to
offer me a Danish and orange juice before I had to hit the road. That
and plenty of sugar and caffeine got be home alright. And after a nasty
email to Holiday Inn Select .com I got a refund back on the last night.
I got a refund back on the first day of the festival as well. Those
kooks thought including a flyer from last years fest would be a good idea and
I showed up on Wednesday instead of Tuesday when it actually started.
Just as well. I couldn't really afford to be there at all. But I
wouldn't have missed it for the world!

I guess to Heston, Hunter, McDowall PLANET was just a gig they had thirty years ago. That's the way it is sometimes. Fans often don't understand it, but with actors movies are just a means to make a living. Often they resent it when a cult forms around a work they really didn't care that much for. That's not to say the people who worked on PLANET didn't care for it, but that they're just not obssessed with it. I recently read some things in a couple books about Clint Eastwood. Now my favorite Eastwood movie is KELLY'S HEROES, but Eastwood it turns out doesn't think much of it and thinks that the final cut that was released is just awful. Oh well.

Yeah, the first few should be appearing sometime soon. I'm a bit
pissed off though - I thought I would finally get the three figures
I'm missing (Lawgiver and two of the astronauts) and at reasonable
prices no less. Every month they've been teasing me in Previews by
soliciting a few that I already have, until finally they get round to
the three I need, the very last three in the series that they are
releasing... and for some reason Previews says that these ones are
going to be exclusive to North America! AAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRGH!!!!!!!
The only three I need, and it appears they're the only three that I
can't order from my usual UK dealer. Looks like I will have to pay
ridiculous prices after all...

Nothing in the Times search I just did.
My folks are back from CO and I have to

get it until Monday if she doesn't check. If
it's a Sunday service we may get shut out. <.html

BTW Welcome to the group Rich. I remember the 4:30 Movie
too. But I use to hate how they would show Planet in 2 parts then skip one
of the films to fit them in to 5 days. Then they would cut the crap out
of the other films to fit them into 90 minutes with commercials. A
friend of mine use to call them the 4:30 film clips.

"All"??? There's not one photo on there from Planet, just an Escape
photo, and that drawing of Caesar & Aldo...
Which leads to my
question to anyone who may know... Why did they use SOOOO MANY photos from
Escape and Battle, (rather than Planet, Beneath, & Conquest?) on those toys,
puzzles, etc...? Were they cheaper to license or something? It certainly can't
be from a lack of photos from Planet, etc, as we all know there are plenty of
them...

In the
late 80's or early 90's I went to Sydney for a Fleetwood Mac concert. I
took off to skoke a joint around the back of the venue and I stumbled across a
parked Cadillac Limo with mirror windows. I was fairly stoned and I
approached the windows to see if I could get an angle where I could see
in. The driver's window came down and the driver said "How you
doin'?" in an American accent. I asked for an autograph and there was
a lot of sniffing and giggling in the rear of the limo.
The
driver wound up the window and a minute later wound it back down and handed me a
piece of paper.
I was
so proud of myself and waved as the limo drove towards the
venue.
I
looked at the paper and it said:
"Best Wishes
Fleetwood Mac's Chauffer"
Nice
one.
I made
up for it recently when I met Roger Waters backstage and got his
autograph.
Michael (in Australia, for all you newcomers).
I saw him do a Q&A at the Museum of TV
& Radio, Matt Stein went, the creator of the band "Ape Has Killed
Ape". We wanted autographs, Matt had a CD of the original POTA, I had
Greene's book. They kinda wisked him backstage so he wouldn't get asked for
autographs (he did "Star Trek", so the hounds were out). Matt and I
went down to the parking garage and there he was. Just us, Jerry, his GORGEOUS
blonde wife or girlfriend about a third his age and some guy assigned to him. I
asked him to sign the book and somehow he cut his finger (he told his
wife/girlfriend "I'm bleeding!") but always the trooper he signed it
anyway. He tried not to get blood on the book so it looked liked a kindergarten
scribble. His limo arrived though, so Matt was out of luck. But that was the
funniest autograph I ' ve ever got. - - - Jeff
