.htmlI agree it is confusing Mr Cougar.
But it could be that it was INTENDED to mean "Science Related" and
then bastardised to be a "That looks good, let's get more of them" by
the time of the movie.
Based on the original Mutant costume designs we saw yesterday, it is
easy to understand how the original designs are changed and adapted
according to budget and other things.
I still think it could be a coincidence too (like the whole "Paul is
dead" beatles thing) and that there was never the intention of the
e=mc2 thing being there. Also, it could have just been an inside
joke if there was the intention of a reference to Einstein's theory.
There are so many alternatives, and so many hypotheses, but I really
want to know if there might also be EVIDENCE.

that was used as a base for the submachine guns in Beneath.
Yes, in case I forgot, welcome back Brian. And the Madsen does look a lot like a skinny M-3 or Swedish K.<.html <.html

It sounds legit. Comingsoon.net is pretty
reliable. If something's rumor or speculation they'd say so. Anyway, if it's
true the scene would probably wind up on the DVD as an outtake at least. These
days I don't think Connery would let a little thing like a feud keep him from
making some dough. He did "The Avengers" and the voice of that dragon, didn't
he? - - Jeff

The whole thing sounds like an internet rumor to me. Knowing
Connery's consistant efforts to distance himself from his days as

any cameo was ever filmed.
This could be true too. The studios today do
all sorts of stupid thing to get publicity.

.htmlPatrick is in league with SATAN!
I see your point but again I say you can't blame God or religion for the
acts of crazoids. And anyway, it's not going to change. People need God.
Personally, I need God. It just makes life seem more livable and sometimes
things seem to be guided by an unseen hand. Obviously He/She/It doesn't
intervene; I knew that long before 9/11. And when you get down to it,
killing seems to be the natural order of things. People say it's a sin, etc.
But it's part of the deal. You could ask, why did God create a world where
creatures have to eat each other to survive, or fallible minds that go nuts.
There's no easy answers. But I get the feeling your upbringing has made this
a particularly sensitive issue for you. That's the nice thing about POTA, it
allows us to look at these issues in a unique way. - - - Jeff

I was just reading over at
Aint-it-cool-news that Universal is still interested in Peter Jackson doing a
"King Kong" remake, but that we wouldn't see it until 2006 at the
soonest. Maybe that's how long it'll take for an APES 2. What do

I think Stembridge has pretty much closed it's doors and sold off a
lot of it's stock, due to suffocating firearm regs. Even the movie
industry is not immune! Many weapons companies have closed up shop
and left the state thanx to newer tougher laws. Stembridge was a
3 or 4 generation Hollywood family outfit from what I remember. Sad
to see it go.

I've heard of Swedish K's, but Danish
Madsen's? That's a new one on me. Thanks for clearing that
up Brian. Yeah, Stembridge Arms is amazing. I'd love to take
a tour out there someday. It is movie gun heaven. I called
them once, trying to get a barrel length on John Wayne's Winchester, so
I could fit one with a large loop lever. Unfortunately the Stagecoach
original was a 12 or 14 incher, which requires a class 3 stamp unless its
an antique. And I don't have that kind of scratch right now.
The Rio Bravo/El Dorado 38/40 was longer -- 18 inches, I think. I
compromised with a 16 inch Winchester. I believe the One in True Grit was
that length. But mine's a 94, and The Duke always used 92s.
And it's a Trapper, and though the cross block's safety's are handy for
not shooting myself when twirl cocking it, it isn't exactly accurate historically
speaking, to the Old West, or to the films.

Hi Michael,
The only glyph pattern that I know that were definately designed
to make sense were the chimp's "e=mc2" ones. The Orangs, and the
Gorillas were just asthetics. The "ED's" on some of the Orangs may
have an "inside" meaning (child's , girlfriend, wife's initials) but I
have not found anyone who could elaberate on that.
There was an actual ape alphebet that Creeber's team designed.
It was available in a boxed set with some blueprint designs back in the
80's. I think it was some sort of Home Shopping Network exclusive.
Anyone remember that?

Hey Gang, Long time no smell! Been a busy year, but things

Looking through some old postings here I noticed a convo on the apes

I'll
add
my 2 cents worth.
Yes, the "hero" ape carbines were surplus WWII or Korean issue semi-
auto M-1 Carbines. The Gorilla sub-machine gun, however, was
not an
M3
Greasegun (they don't fit, trust me), but rather the more streamlined
Danish Madsen sub-machine gun. You can see these subs (without
the
ape
stocks) used in a few classic 60's episodes of Man from Uncle, Voyage
to the Bottom of the Sea, and Star Trek. I seem to remember,
and
forgive me for not knowing the title and date of it's first airing
(no
Trekki here), an episode where Kirk and the gang beamed down to a
planet and were held in a jail cell where white helmeted guards stood
watch over them with the Danish Madsen sub-machine guns.(There's
blooper reels of the guards rushing into the room and falling down
too.) Quite possibly the same SMGs used in Beneath, because
Stembridge
Arms supplied weapons to just about everything going on in Hollywood
back in those days. If I can figure out how to post a foto with
this
message, I'll do it. If not, my bad.
Take care. Hope everyone had a fun and safe Halloween.

In all fairness to the first film, you
cannot make logical comparisons from the TV series to any of the films.
The tv series was on a budget and just threw whatever they thought looked
good onto film. There was no logic or science behind their decisions
to use a glyphed chimp outfit for a street sweeper rather than a
scientist. They just used what they grabbed off the rack.
brian
I still
can't totally by the idea that the "E=MC2" thing on the chimps means "science"...
I mean if it were, then why would the court stenographer in Planet, and
the Prefects in the television series also have that symbol? I'd say it
has more to do with Chimps than it does science...

For those who care:
Smith and Wesson made a similar SMG as well, but the Madsen was Hollywood's
favorite.
Actually, it's remarkable how many different yet similar SMG's were
manufactured over the years, once the US M3 with it's "stamped" not machined
receiver hit the battlefields during WW2. The Thompson "Tommy" gun
was the staple, but it was expensive and timely to build. The M3
"Greaseguns" were fast and cheap to make and could easily adapt to fire
45CAL or 9MM ammunition just by unscrewing and replacing the barrel.
You couldn't do that with the Thompson.
Here's some images of the APe/Madsen and other similar SMGs from
around the world.
ENjoy.

For anyone interested, we manufacture
highly detailed replicas of the APE weapons, including a 30th Anniversary
Airsoft (now discontinued to make room for the 35th Anniversary models

Yes, I believe it. When I first started designing the APEMANIA

Yes, the Model 76, aka the MK 760. The M3 was America's answer to the British Sten. Sten Guns were made by the boat load and dropped to resistance forces in France. For the time and money it took to make a dozen Thompson's they could make hundreds of M3s. At the time Thompsons went for $300 bucks. An MP3 could be produced for about $15 bucks. They were cheap, but they were also junk. These were no Uzi's, or MP-40s or 5s. More like the MACs. Definitely Spray & Pray guns. <.html

Director Butts Heads with MPAA Over Clooney's
Butt
Just three weeks before the release of his romantic sci-fier Solaris, director Steven
Soderbergh (Traffic) is locked in a battle with the MPAA ratings board over
its decision to rate the film R because of two scenes in which actor George
Clooney is seen naked from the rear.
Referring to the 1995 episode of NYPD Blue in which the naked backside of Dennis Franz was displayed, Soderbergh told today's (Tuesday) Los
Angeles Times: "Believe me, there is nothing here that is worse that
what has been on NYPD Blue." Soderbergh said that he plans to appeal
the rating.

The Pain!! The great Jonathan Harris passes
Jonathan Harris, best known for his
portrayal of Dr. Zachary Smith on "Lost in Space," passed away Sunday. I can't
begin to explain how important this guy was to me at one point in my life. I
am one poor obit writer, and am too jammed up with real-world deadlines to
write a proper tribute at the moment, but I also believe this news is too
important to post belatedly. Until we can revisit this great actor and his
career, find a short piece from the Chiller Theatre site. And I'm sure there
are more than a few talkbackers who can honor this genius artist as well as
I.

Yup. Got them too! But they are considerably more work to
make, being that there is no airsoft Madsen SMG currently available.
We convert KG9's to fit in the housings, but even those are getting harder
to find. Everything's getting discontinued!! We made a special
order last year for some custom M-1 Carbines for the 35th Anniversary models,
so we are cool there, but the SMG's are getting tougher.
I have done some experimenting with the Barretta M93 airsoft.
man that has a great sound! But it doesn't hold much gas, so we were
working on a small external reservoir that could be hidden in the Gorilla's
backpack. A feeder line would have a quik-disconnect at the wrist.
Complicated but feasable, especially for that cool sound. So we'll
see how that goes. But again, I've got Hollywood artisans working
on these things, and them folks don't come cheep! So putting that
much work into these toys isn't cost effective. Makes for some great
stuff, but only hi-enders can afford them.
I've enquired to a few manufacturers about special ordering airsoft
versions of the Madsens, but the tooling and set up charges for a limited
run of 50 to 100 would set the costs at $1500 or more per gun, not
to mention what our costs would be to ape-them-out. Who's gunna spend
that much for a toy?

If it was Bob that told me, his source is having personally worked on
the film(s). All these folks are getting up there in age, some times
it's hard to keep them focussed on a topic in a conversation. I've
been trying to get a Felix Silla child gorilla appliance set out of Bob
for years (cuz I own the costume and would like to build a mannequin for
it). Heck I even had Felix come into the studio for hand casts for
the figure. I would like to use the appliances as a guide for the
head sculpture, but Bob always seams to go off on an unrelated topic when
I talk to him about digging up the pieces and selling them to me.
I 'll see what I can do about the glyph info on my next outing with him.

Yeah,
That's pretty sad but he did well to last so
long. I was lucky enough to have dinner with him one night a few years back
when I was still at Fox and he was down here promoting the Lost in Space
videos. 'Behind the POTA's Kevin Burns will be devastated as he's
probably the world's biggest LIS fan. He even bought the rights from Fox
to remake all of Irwin Allen's 60's TV series.

Oh, the pain! The
pain! I just found this item at Ain't-it-cool. I wonder if
Eric Greene will be at the funeral.
The Pain!! The great Jonathan Harris passes
Jonathan Harris, best
known for his portrayal of Dr. Zachary Smith on "Lost in Space," passed away
Sunday. I can't begin to explain how important this guy was to me at one
point in my life. I am one poor obit writer, and am too jammed up with
real-world deadlines to write a proper tribute at the moment, but I also
believe this news is too important to post belatedly. Until we can revisit
this great actor and his career, find a short piece from the Chiller Theatre
site. And I'm sure there are more than a few talkbackers who can honor this
genius artist as well as
I.

Hey Brian, someone here said they talked to
a dealer of Shag original paintings and they said "Brian of Apemania" bought one
of the originals (POTA related) as well as owning the original Lawgiver statue.
Where they confused about a certain actor's Sammy Davis knockoff or did you
finally nab the original? How well stocked is your Shag collection?- - -

Sam Neill says they are busy working on
"Jurassic Park 4" and he says they have a great story lined up, the best so far.
Now, if they can do another one of these things, why not "Apes 2"? Both cost
about the same and they were neck and neck in theatres. The last "Jurassic" also
disappointed. Is there a 2001 movie that ISN'T getting a sequel besides "Apes"?
Back in the '70's "Apes" was synonymous with milking a concept for everything
they could, and now it can't even get arrested. Maybe they should cast Winina
Ryder in it on that last score. - - - Jeff

Awe, now yer guna test my brain. Was it someone I was
working with or someone I spoke to at one of the anniversary parties.
Man, I forget. Anyway, we've all seen it the "E" with the two
"dots" inside the stems for the "=" sign, the two vertical lines with a broken
line for the "M" and the closed ended "2" at the end of the glyph patch.
Oh and the Half-moon "C" above the glyph patch. It's a pretty cool
design. I'll have to remember harder who told me that it was
intentional. I think it may have been Bob Romero at John Chamber's 75th,
but don't quote me on that.
hey did I mention that Buck Kartalian dropped by the studio on Friday
for a visit. He's got to be the coolest 80 year old actor I've ever
met. Still can do 100 push-ups!!! I can't even do ten, and I'm
half his age!! He has some great wrestling stories!!!

.html*** Mike, one of the many things I do NOT know is the "original"
Aboriginal name of the island-continent which was re-
named "Australia" by the Brits. You live there, right? So, you tell
me: What was its original name, and don't you think the Aborigines
werre upset at the "name change"?
I, for one, do not know if any of the "native Americans" had a single
name for the continent that now is called "North America". Perhaps I
should know this but, alas, I've never claimed to be a "know-it-all".
The continent on which I was born was renamed after an Italian named
Amerigo Vespucci; I wonder if anybody ever thought of naming
it "Vespucci" rather than after his first name?
Patrick
P.S. By the way, in regards to one of your earlier responses to
my "god" rant, nobody (as far as I've ever heard) has ever suggested
that the book of "Revelation" was written by Paul (Saul of Tarsus),
the main character in the latter half of "Acts". The very first verse
of "Revelation" says it was given to "John", supposedly the author of
the 4th Gospel.
But let's not let facts get in the way of your lil' pro-Belief
messages!

People need God. Personally, I need God. It just makes life seem more
livable and sometimes things seem to be guided by an unseen hand.
Obviously He/She/It doesn't intervene; I knew that long before 9/11.
And when you get down to it, killing seems to be the natural order of
things. People say it's a sin, etc. But it's part of the deal. You
could ask, why did God create a world where creatures have to eat
each other to survive, or fallible minds that go nuts. There's no
easy answers. But I get the feeling your upbringing has made this a
particularly sensitive issue for you. That's the nice thing about
POTA, it allows us to look at these issues in a unique way. - - -
Jeff
*** Jeff, IF I believed in the existence of God, I would have little
choice but to blame Him for all the misery that He COULD have
prevented, if He'd only gotten off his fat ass and made a difference.
Most religions have what they call "sins of commission" and "sins of
omission". The former are overt acts (like Murdering, Raping,
Stealing, etc.), and the latter refers to the things we SHOULD have
done yet DIDN'T. Say, if you KNEW that your nextdoor neighbour was
kidnapping, raping, murdering, and cannibalizing little children, and
you did NOTHING to stop it, you would be guilty of a multitude
of "sins of omission". You would be just as guilty as the creep next
door, NOT by actually DOING something wrong, but by NOT doing the
RIGHT thing.
I hold "God" to the same standard. There is NO EXCUSE for any
supposedly omniscient and omnipotent Being to sit idly by and allow
atrocities to occur. If "God" exists, then He is the worst Sinner (of
omission) in the Universe, bar none.
Remember the movie "The Dead Zone"? At one point, Chris Walken is
approached by Tom Skerritt's character (the local sheriff, or Chief
of Police) in order to help solve a wave of serial murders; Walken,
eventually, decides to help out, and the psychic trail leads to
Skerritt's deputy. Walken, after "touching" that Deputy's mother,
psychically becomes aware THAT SHE KNEW ALL ALONG THAT HER SON WAS A
SERIAL KILLER. Walken, with moral disgust, says, "You KNEW?!"
That's what I would say to "God" if He were to drag me before His
throne on Judgment Day. I, not having been blessed (or cursed) with
omniscience or omnipotence, would tell God that I have an excuse for
not being able to rid the world of Evil... but what the hell is God's
excuse? He "chooses" not to intervene? He purposely commits
uncountable sins of omission, allowing guys like Hitler, Jeffrey
Dahmer, Ted Bundy, Pol Pot, (etc.) to commit their "sins of
commission"?
Such a "god" is NOT a loving, righteous Divinity worthy of worship.
He/she/it is a Monster. Like Doctor Frankenstein (in the novel), He
has a duty towards his Creation (if, that is, He exists and DID
create the Universe & Mankind). Frankenstein shirked his duty, and
his Creature wreaked vengeance on him, and the one who deserved to
take the fall for that was Dr. Frankenstein himself. So, too,
does "God" deserve to take the fall for shirking his duty in regards
to his "creation". If He isn't willing to act by His own code of
morality ("Thou shalt not commit Murder" etc.), then He has no moral
authority over any of us.
Patrick
P.S. I recommend that everybody out there run (Don't walk!) to your
nearest comic book store and buy the 9-volume collection of the DC
Comics/Vertigo title "PREACHER" by Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon. It's
probably the best-written comic in the last 20 years; it's hilarious,
thought-provoking, and revolves around a main character who has the
same "beef" with God that I do. The first volume (of 9) sells for
$14.95 (USA) and it's ISBN # is 1-56389-261-8. Kevin Smith said of
it: "PREACHER is more fun than going to the movies." Coming from a
guy who makes his own movies, that's something! <.html
