Subject: ANSA/NASA... Hasslein/Einstein...
.html
--- In pota@y..., <veetus@e...> wrote:
> Well, they wouldn't even mention Einstein by name, they credited
his work to Hasslein. Just as they inverted NASA into ANSA. By the
way, did we ever discuss why it's called ANSA in the original and
NASA in "Escape"? I think ANSA was the name of the project. - - - Jeff

*** The "Dr. Otto Hasslein" character in ESCAPE is obviously much
younger than Einstein, whose theories of Relativity and Mass/Energy
Equivalence made possible the nuking of Hiroshima 28 years before the
events of ESCAPE.
In my scenario (Mike, Jimmy, Mlc, feel free to ignore!), the
difference between the Einsteinian Theory of Relativity and the
Hasslein Theory has to do with HOW spacecraft are accelerated
to "nearly the speed of light". Einstein's Theory concerns a ship
which is accelerated along a trajectory THROUGH Cartesian spacetime,
whereas Hasslein's Theory involves the creation of a photon-like
energy field (a "warpfield") which instantaneously propagates like a
photon: at the speed of light, divided by the Mass factor (the Mass
of the ship + its fuel), since photons don't have mass. Thus, whereas
a photon takes 320 years (Earth-Time) to travel 320 lightyears,
Taylor's ship--enveloped within its Hassleinian warpfield--takes
longer than 320 Earth-Time years to travel the same distance, due to
the Mass of the ship encumbering the photon-like energy field.
It is this same warpfield which protects the ANSA ships from the
gravitational tides of Black Holes (etc.), and which cocoons them
during their Back-through-Time journeys (as when Virdon's ship
travels back 115 Earth-Time days on the 4.34 lightyear journey from
Alpha Centauri to Earth, and when Taylor's ship travels back a little
over 23 Earth-Time years on his 320 lightyear journey from his
destination in Orion back to Earth, from 3978 to 3955).

As for the ANSA vs. NASA designation, my scenario has it that there
was a civilian, public space agency (NASA), which conducted the lunar
landings, etc.; and there was also a military and secret space agency
(ANSA) which sent out the Virdon mission to Alpha Centauri (to do a
fly-by & return scouting of it) and the Taylor mission to an unnamed
Sol-like star system 320 lightyears away in Orion (a colonizing
venture, where Stewart--among other females on the "mothership"--was
to be "the new Eve" with the "hot and eager help" of the males on the
crew). When the "3rd shuttle" from the Taylor mission mysteriously re-
enters Earth's atmosphere in late 1973, nobody in the ANSA agency
anticipates this, since they believe (rightly) that it is still on
its way out into Deep Space (which it is)... and when the Army gets
it beached, they assume that its something that NASA put up, and so
they get NASA scientists to subject it to "microscopic scrutiny",
well before any ANSA agency member has any idea that one of their
shuttles from the Taylor mission had returned. And, once the
scuttlebutt regarding the "Ape-onauts" clogs the radiowaves
throughout the Defense Dept. establishment, it becomes impossible to
keep it a secret. Thus, an ANSA vehicle becomes subjected to the
examination of NASA scientists, who probably didn't even know about
the mission to begin with. Until, that is, they got their mitts on
that shuttle and "read the tapes"; they would have been intrigued
that these ships were equipped with dual chronometers which take into
account ANY type of Time Dilation effects, since their own NASA
technology is nowhere near as advanced as what the military ANSA guys
had secretly been developing...

Kevin Smith is also a devout Catholic (I was on the set of "Jay and Bob"
and his car was full of religious stickers). As the guy who made "Dogma" he
shows not all "religious people are mindless zombies. Point taken, God lets
a lot of shit go down. Or maybe it's more complicated than that. James said
God isn't an invisible man, maybe so. Sometimes I think Heaven is like the
Red Room in "Twin Peaks". Did you see "Fire Walk With Me"? The shot callers
need pain and suffering, maybe we do too. Puts things in perspective. "Fire"
showed a more ambiguous universe. But I also see moments where there does
seem to be hope and intervention. Hitler was allowed to rule, but he did get
creamed. We managed not to blow ourselves up, despite things like the Cuban
Missile Crisis. You can say good acts are because of people, not God. But we
live in a miraculous world and I think something is out there, and it ain't
UFOs. - - - Jeff

*** Jeff! You HAVE this QVC package? Any chance you could post pics
of those "4 blueprints" on the site here? I've NEVER seen a blueprint
of Ape City, or any official thing regarding the Glyph-alphabet. The
ship blueprints were reprinted in that article by Jim Key for "SciFi

this other stuff. You HAVE it? Please, Jeff... SHARE!

.html Hi Jeff,

That's the other Brian of APEMANIA, actor/voice-over man Brian "Last American Virgin" Peck.  Brian was a close personal friend of Roddy as well.  He's got some wonderful stuff on his estate, including the original Sammy Davis LG Statue.
(there were two full-size statues made and the courtroom "bleeder" bust.  Jacob's copy now resides in Irvine, CA; Sammy's copy (which urked Chambers when Jacobs gave it to Davis) now resides at Peck's place; and the "bleeder" courtrom bust is in Florida, tubes and all.   I've seen at least one Shag original in Brian's rompus room too!

The Sammy Davis LG is the one we duped, after losing the auction for the Jacob's one several years ago.

My personal Shag collection?  I have a Zaius sticker pinned to my bulletin board at the studio.

.html I've looked into decom Madsens but because the receiver is part of the stamped stock, the only way you can legally purchase one (here in CA) is to receive it "torch-cut", which means a huge chunk of it is missing!  The chunk that holds it all together!

A Japanese company used to make 9mm blank firing Madsens in the 70's, but have long since discontinued them.  Those Japanese made the coolest toys for gun loving kids in the 70's.  Replica Models Company used to sell them all, until real looking blank firing automatics became illegal in most states.  They sure were fun to play with.  We never lost a battle in my neighborhood!

Exactly.  So why not just get some Madsens?  It'd be cheaper in the long run.  If those are getting hard to find, you've got a lot of other's to chose from.  But the outer shells would have to be modified to fit them.  But anyone who showed up with one would be the coolest guy at the range, that's for sure!

      dot of evidence that I am PRO-belief. I don't have a stance.

I am simply pointing out that your added assumptions (eg that if there is a

your ignorance. You are thinking of the concept of heaven I think, where
supposedly these things would not happen.

Jeff's the pro-belief guy...see if you can rant to the point where you get

This is another example of your lack of ability to understand simple
concepts...that's why I often ponder whether you have any real intelligence
Patrick, and I have REAL evidence! Intelligence is about analysis,
      hypothesis and evaluation Patrick.

Now, so you don't dodge the actual point again, I'll say that whomever the
author of Revelations may be (gee, you sure know a lot about the Bible!), it
has been argued, quite convincingly, that he was quite mad when he wrote the

Not sure about the Aboriginal name for the country, but I relate to their
outrage at our invasion and name change. Why then do you find it so
difficult to fathom that I would be offended by your scenario? Do you think
it was nice of the Brits to kill off whole tribes and take/re-name the land?
I would think this is one of History's lessons that we would learn from (as
the Aboriginals are teaching us right now in the courts by re-claiming their
land under Native Title). Are you trying to justify or apologise?

Is that the little bit of Cartman coming out in you again when you say "I've
never claimed to be a "know-it-all"."? That is pretty funny. Or maybe you
      have been falsely accused....

What caused 9/11 was intolerance for other people's beliefs. What

      Jeff doesn't have a scanner.

Send me a gerbil and I'll consider doing it.

      Please remove all claws first.

I think if you had children you MIGHT understand Patrick.

You do what you can for them, but you can't live their lives for them.

You see they make choices you don't like so you do what you can to get the
message across about what the choice should be, but you would impinge on
their freedom if you intervened all the time.

I think it's all about free will Patrick. Otherwise we would all be puppets
      and slaves.

Lots of people lose their faith through tragedies like 911, the rape and
murder of their children etc, but don't you think it would be a more adult
      approach to blame mankind?

I'm getting tired of trying to explain to you Patrick...if you don't get it
      now, you never will.

Yes, I have the blank firing Uzi.  My real Uzi was sold years ago.  I'm sure I could put a Madsen on a Form 3, if I could find one that is.  I don't know how I'd get it to you to have it customized though.

          Hi Jeff,

Are you saying the statues used in the movies were neither Jacobs' nor Sammy's? Natalie said Jacobs' was the one used in the movie; Sammy's was created from that after the fact.             It's not the actual one-sheet, but it's that illustration. Zauis looming over the cage and it says "Somewhere in the universe there must be something better than man. In a matter of time an astronaut will wing through the centuries and find the answer. He may find the most terrifying one of all on the planet where apes are the rulers and man the beast". It's got the credits at the bottom of the illu, just like the poster but there's no rectangular frame around it like a poster. The title "POTA" is grey with sprinkles (sounds like a donut). The shirt is white, the illustration isn't in color. It was only available with the package. That night they also offered a paperweight of the poster shrunk down and encased in lucite. And a Cornelius poster that's pictured in Sauseville's book. An awesome night. - - - Jeff

No, that painting didn't have a price because it wasn't for sale (Brian
already owned it. I guess he just lent it to Shag so he would have more
originals to show in the gallery). Judging from the size and the prices on
the other paintings I would guess it was in the $4000 to $5000 range.

If you are referring to my crediting my friend Brian "Last American Virgin" Peck as a dig to his love-life, you missed the plug.  "Last American Virgin" was his first film and the one we remember him by most (cuz they filmed it at our high school).  Maybe I should have put Brian "the Hot dog vender with Stan Lee on the beach in X-men" Peck, but then someone would probably think I was slamming his eating habits or something.  I give up.

             Hi Jeff,

I have a Zaius sticker pinned to my bulletin board at the studio.

.html My understanding from what Chambers and others have told me, is that there were two full-size statues, and one bust.  One of the full-sizers was used on location, the other stayed on the lot on the sound stages.  Sammy asked Jacobs if he could have one of them at the end of the film, and Jacobs obliged, which upset Chambers because the statue was already promised to him.  The other statue stayed in Jacobs/Trundy possession until it was auctioned off in '98.

The courtroom bust (used in Taylor's tribunal) was later used for the bleeding close-ups in Beneath, and now resides in Florida.

Natalie may be remembering stuff from the BENEATH shoot, stating that there was only the one statue (the other being on Sammy's estate), because she's made comments about them having to cart it back and forth to the desert, and it was only seen in the desert in BENEATH.

I don't know the name of the Shag that Brian"Return of the Living Dead" Peck has, but I do know it shows Zaius at a bar.

Natalie said they had that Lawgiver Statue specially made for Sammy, but if John told you different he's probably right. Remember that newspaper/magazine I sent you a couple years ago with Shag's Zauis at the bar on the cover? .html Yeah, I still have that "No regrets deal you made".  Best take on the changing of the millenium deal I saw.  Certainly ape-pro-poe for our crowd!  I know I still have that magazine somewhere too, if someone if the lab didn't kype it. (sometimes they'll do that with cool stuff you know)  I'll check tomorrow.

My understanding from what Chambers and others have told me, is that there were two full-size statues, and one bust.

             Hi Jeff,

Not correct, Sir.   The statue was also seen on the Ape City set at the Fox ranch.  I would assume what Natalie meant was they had to cart the one remaining Lawgiver statue between the studio set and the Fox ranch.  They wouldn't have taken the statue up to the Red Rock Canyon local.  What for?  Those shots of the statue bleeding in the desert are all process shots. (Notice that the special effects guys printed the statue backwards -- just another example of how sloppy BENEATH is.)

.htmlI just remembered something that Joe Russo told me that might explain why Jacobs gave the Lawgiver statue to Sammy Davis, Jr., --- other than that Davis may have asked for it it.

Davis wanted really bad to be in "Doctor Dolittle," in the part that ended up going to Geoffery Holder, but Fox didn't want Davis, so Jacobs had to tell Sammy he couldn't do it.  It upset Jacobs a lot, so giving Sammy the Lawgiver may have been to make up for that.  Too bad for Chambers, he should have gotten it.  I'll bet he was pissed, but he did get the Oscar.

I wonder who won that original ad I saw on eBay a while back with Fox congratulating Chambers for his Award?

One day I'd like to try applying one of the faces directly (a real prosthetic application?) but this time I chickened out.  I love the smell of the spirit gum adhesive.  Anyway, your site is an inspiration and your gift put us all (14 kids and even more adults) in virtual Ape City for months.

.html All points are valid.  Criticism is always constructive, whether it be favorable or not.

So much of the stuff we have posted on the site is not up to snuff, especially by today's standards.   It's still leaps and bounds ahead of what we were doing 6 years ago, and with all the input we get from the fans, we try to make improvements as we move along.

The sculpt on the Zira bust displayed on the website has always bugged me (really bugged me, looks like a chipmunk!), not to mention the hairwork on it as well as many of the others.  I've thought about pulling that from the site, but most people say I should just leave it until the new one is finished.

Custom hairpieces and wigs are expensive, so in a consorted effort to keep costs down we've gone middle-of-the-road with a lot of the hairpieces.  Slowly but surely we will remedy all that is not right with the line, but as you know, these things take time.

Of course there's always the alternative; those blow-up Suzie versions that guy makes out of New York.  YIKES!!!

True, but when I bought those old apeliances I thought I had cornered the market.  My bad.  Water under the bridge.  But if you check the archive I'm not the only one who feels the hair is not up to Hollywood standards.  That and the same attention to detail was not apeplied to Zira's bust as was the others, are really my only beefs with Apemania.  Valid points both.  Do you disagree?

                  .html Hi Helen,

After talking to you on the phone and hearing about all that you were doing with the kids (for the kids) it was all I could do to help, short of flying out there to be part of it all.  It reminded me much of the fun and excitement I had with the apes at that age.

Go easy on the spirit gum, babe!  Lon Chaney Jr loved it so much he used to drink the stuff !!!  Actually the story I got was he'd hide his booze in the spirit gum bottles so people on the crew would take it away away from him.

We really don't use spirit gum for gluing on prosthetics anymore.  There are a lot nicer adhesives available these days that aren't "ether"[C2H5OC2H5] based.  They don't have that same wonderful chloroform [CHCl3] effect on you while you're working with them, but they certainly don't destroy your skin the way spirit does either!

By the way, that's a GREAT foto!  And I loved all the shots of the Liberty statue construction/parade.

I'm glad it worked out for you all.

Hi Brian,  I see you made your way back.

Thank you for the huge contribution that you made to our Apes Parade project last summer!  The faces that you sent are amazing!  (I have to laugh at Rory's BAD HAIR DAY topic, but I'm sending a photo anyway.)  We embellished a little, had a few flubs, and had a lot of fun while puting these masks together.  You're a great teacher!

One day I'd like to try applying one of the faces directly (a real prosthetic application?) but this time I chickened out.  I love the smell of the spirit gum adhesive.  Anyway, your site is an inspiration and your gift put us all (14 kids and even more adults) in virtual Ape City for months.

                  Dear Brian,

Army of the Apes (trans. of Saru no Gundan) was the 1974-75 Japanese
live-action series in which the last remaining "naked apes" (humans)
are pursued by various elements of the ape society that dominates
                  the future earth.

In 1987, Sandy Frank took approximately 4 episodes of the 26-episode
TV series, and edited them into the English-dubbed "Time of the
Apes" for the English-language market. It was an almost impossible
task to boil down 26 episodes in one 98-minute feature film, and
TOTA does not make a lot of sense as a result. I think the film and
series have some endearing qualities and are worthy of being a part
                  of the "Apes" canon.

                  Yours,
                  Menluth of Kygoor.

.html It's the real deal folks.  Turns out the seller is a client of ours in the UK.  He bought the BACKGROUND outfit from STARWARES COLLECTIBLES, got the ORIGINAL BG rifle from us, and I think the boots came from us too.  Still trying to figure out where the mask came from. Doesn't look like any of ours.  He didn't answer that part of my inquiry.  Seems ,he's looking to get some bigger better collectibles, and is using this auction to offest his investments.

I had to read the description twice before I worked out the deal with
the mask - it seems the depicted mask is not described, but he
mentions a 20th C Fox Authorised mask that is NOT depicted comes with
                    the deal.

The photographed mask sure does look more Disney than POTA.

As a film, Time of the Apes is clearly in the B-movie or cult film
category, but it only hints at major points in the real plot of the
full story. I think TOTA or Army of the Apes stands on its own as an
original story, and provides one of the more complex ape characters
of any of the Apes films -- that of Police Chief Gebâ, who would
be much better compared to Victor Hugo's police inspector Javert
(who hunted Jean Valjean) than to his colleagues Urko or Ursus in
                    POTA.

Technologically, "Saru no Gundan" portrays ape society closer to the
way Boulle had envisioned planet Soror, than the POTA films or
                    series.

It seems to me that they worked very hard on making the Army of the
Apes TV series. The budget was low, but the series was probably not
worse in production values than that of POTA TV series, and it
lasted twice as long on TV! It is too bad that the series is not
                    available with subtitles.

.htmlCustom hairpieces and wigs are expensive, so in a consorted effort to keep costs down we've gone middle-of-the-road with a lot of the hairpieces.  Slowly but surely we will remedy all that is not right with the line, but as you know, these things take time.

I'm all in favor of the middle road Buddha Brian, but not when it comes to quality.  If the quality is there, then the price doesn't really matter.  In other words, if money is no object, then I'd pay more than double what you're charging for a deluxe model.  But if it's not right, I wouldn't buy it if the price was less than half.  Whether it's an action figure or a full sized mannequin, it either looks right, or it doesn't.  To put it another way, five bucks is too much for a Mego, but $50 isn't too much for a Medicom. Nam Zen? (know what I'm saying) I know what you're saying about Apemania having come along way.  It's true!  But to shell out that kind of dough for something that's not absolutely perfect?  Only the Japanese can afford that!  --  Maybe not even them anymore.

Now who's winding who up?  If I'm going to spend that kind of scratch I'm going all out. (see previous post) Until then I think a nice honorarium in Kim's name to one of her favorite charities would be a more fitting tribute to her.  When I'm ready to buy it won't be just a bust, but a full sized mannequin.  And I'd like it outfitted with the Zira #1 costume from Planet.  No half measures on that one.  Pull out all the stops.

Jeff, I think you missed something here...You know I wouldn't slam anybody ('cept maybe Lord t' Zero) intentionally.

I give up.

                     Hi Jeff,

Jeff, I think you missed something here...You know I wouldn't slam anybody ('cept maybe Lord t' Zero) intentionally.

I give up.

                     Hi Jeff,

                    Brian

$5 is too much for a Mego but $50 isn't too much for a Medicom? Are you daft? You can't even get a neked Mego for that. Not even the foot. And Medicoms are around $10. Custom hairpieces and wigs are expensive, so in a consorted effort to keep costs down we've gone middle-of-the-road with a lot of the hairpieces.  Slowly but surely we will remedy all that is not right with the line, but as you know, these things take time.

I'm just saying what I'd pay Jeff, not market price.  I never bought a Mego, even when they were new and cheap, and probably never will.  But when Medicoms were new and expensive, with the shipping charges, mine was around 40.  And I couldn't buy it fast enough.

$5 is too much for a Mego but $50 isn't too much for a Medicom? Are you daft?
You can't even get a neked Mego for that. Not even the foot. And Medicoms are around $10. For $50 they have to be opened for you by Linda Harrison. - - - Jeff
