I pop in here every now and again and I guess I just don't understand
a few individuals complaints about Monstermakers. I have been ape
crazy since I was a kid and saved my grass cutting money to buy my
first Don Post Gorilla mask. Since then I have been waiting for a
company like Monstermakers and then I started seeing thing spop up on
ebay.

I emailed Brian out of the blue and started asking him questions. He
is always polite and always shared tons of information and never held
anything back. I'm sure I drove him nuts with all my emails asking
about the details of Ursus' uniform. People complain about the prices
yet I don't see them forking out the dough to obtain the legal rights
to produce these items. How many here have treid making these items
for their own collectiion? I have made a beneath carbine from scratch
and it couldn't have been done without the help of Brian from
Apemania. He always answered my questions and sent reference photos
whenever I asked. I think it turned out pretty nice for a first prop.
I have been working literally for years making an Ursus costume and
it is still far from complete but again he has helped me evry step of
the way.

Marcia and I plus her parents traveled to CA for vacation and Brian
even took the time from his busy schedule to allow us to tour his
shop. An experience we will all remember. He allowed me to see and
photograph any ape items that was available there at the time. My in-
laws aren't even ape fans and they still talk about that part of the
trip as their favorite.

Oh well, enough of my rant. I just wanted to say if we are truly
classic POTA fans we should be thankful that these items from
Monstermakers are available. I'm glad they are and I thankful Marcia
and I can consider Brian a friend.

I'm definitely anxious for the Ursus resin bust to come out. I'll
probably get the Julius one two and try to light up the cigar tip
with a bier optic, that would really cool. I'm surprised to see that
some fool has started to recast these items. It happens all the time
in the resin model hobby.

Later,

Andy

Sheesh! Maybe that's what I liked about the stuff. It smells great,

the same and they were neck and neck in theatres. The last "Jurassic"

Winona Ryder -- I'd do her! OH!!!

*** Hmmm... I'd kinda like to see her in one a-those "bad-girls-in-
prison" movies (but, this time, it'd be Real Life). She probably
won't see any jail time, but if she DOES... oo yeah! Or, when she
gets out, she can do a girl-girl chicks-in-prison movie with Jenna
Jameson & Janine & Chasey Lain & Keri Windsor... (and, if the
tabloids are right about this, with Jenna's new-found friend Britney
Spears who, allegedly, digs lesbo porn).

Patrick

P.S. Doesn't it piss you off that Winona gets found guilty, but O.J.
isn't? He's still out there, looking for the "real" killer... on
every friggin' golf course there is. Yeah, maybe the Caddyshack
gopher did it!

Do you think it was nice of the Brits to kill off whole tribes and
take/re-name the land? I would think this is one of History's lessons
that we would learn from (as the Aboriginals are teaching us right
now in the courts by re-claiming their land under Native Title). Are

*** If you "relate" to Aboriginal peoples' outrage, are you willing
to "act" on that sentiment? Do you think that all Brit-descended
Aussies should "pack up" and go back to the UK, leaving the entire
continent of Australia to the descendants of those who were
conquered/pushed aside? If you aren't willing to act on that guilt-of-
the-past, then does your sentiment really mean anything?
At least when slavery was eradicated in America (after the bloodiest
war we've ever fought), former slaves were given the chance
to "repatriate" to their mother continent, to live in a country all
their own in liberty--the country "Liberia", named in honor of that
blood-won freedom.
There's talk, currently, from guys like the "Reverend" Al Sharpton
(and others) who think that they--the descendants of slaves--should
reap financial benefits even though they themselves have never been
slaves--and they want "whitey" to foot the bill as "reparations" even
though not one single white American living today has ever owned a
black slave!
It's a touchy subject, and the "race" issue--it seems--will always be
the springboard for dissention among people who insist on
being "Hyphenated Americans" rather than just "Americans".

By "offended by [my] scenario", I assume you're talking about the
notion of American survivors landing on a pole-shifted Australia &
renaming it "New America". Your "offense" at the notion doesn't make
much sense to me, because it's NOT as if I'm advocating that such a
scenario take place--it's a FICTIONAL portrayal of a group of
FICTIONAL people who advance an agenda all their own. I'm not saying
that Australia SHOULD be repopulated by Americans who rename the
continent & the landforms/rivers/lakes/etc. My novel's scenario
merely portrays this all-too-common sort of thing happening YET AGAIN
in the "history" of the Earth. Perhaps you'd prefer it if, in a
different scenario, Australia too is nuked into oblivion (as is North
America, Europe, etc.), and that the "New York City" picture in
Farrow's book refers to some OTHER place, elsewhere on the planet...
just NOT in the radioactive wasteland that was once your home
country.

Incidentally, one of the reasons I thought to modify a post-nuke-war
Australia as the place where a futuristic-looking "New York City"
might exist in 2503 A.D., is that Australia and the contiguous 48
states of the U.S. are nearly antipodal. I don't know if you've ever
read any Dante, but in his pre-Columbus view of geography, Jerusalem
lies at the center of the inhabited hemisphere of land, and at the
antipodal location, in the center of the hemisphere of ocean, lies
the island mountain of Purgatory (just south of the real French
Polynesian islands in the South Pacific Ocean). By juxtaposing two
places on opposite sides of the World, Dante was able to compare and
contrast two different "world views" (one a "this world" view, and
the other a "next world" view); similarly, I got to imagining a "New
America" that represented MY view of how Americanism should be
developed for the sake of the Future (Jeffersonian Republicanism,
Constitutional government, pro-Science humanism, etc.), as opposed to
the bad trends at work in the halls of power in REAL America
(divisive & corrupt 2-party system, unconstitutional gov't, anti-
Science/pro-"Faith" & Religion advocacy, ultimately leading towards
the Totalitarianism portrayed in CONQUEST). By having the Nuke
war "clean the slate" (so to speak), rendering North America a
radioactive shambles, I was going to have "expatriate" American
scientists (in a Science station at the L5 lagrangian position of the
Earth-Moon system) descend to the most viable place (physically)
where they could build THEIR idea of a "more perfect" America--a "New
America": the continent that no longer dwells in the southern
hemisphere (due to the displacement of the Earth's crust)--Australia.
These "Scientists" (as the old holographic man in "The Legacy" calls
themselves), advocating a pro-Science view rather than a religion-
based one, would develop a space-faring culture, purging the "sins"
of Irrationality from all those who wish to become Offworlders... in
other words, a nontheistic kind of "Purgatory" where Humanity extends
its presence into the literal "Heavens" of Outer Space, but NOT by
toadying to the dubious morality espoused by the official Church(es),
as in Dante's conception of Salvation.

It was Australia's near-antipodal position on the Globe (in relation
to the United States of America), and the "almost"-Dantean symbolism
of that geodetic location which prompted me to make IT the place
where that picture of early-26th Century "New York City" was taken--
in a "New America", as contrasted with the nuke-devastated ruins
of "Old America" on the North American continent, and the NYC seen as
the "wasteland" Forbidden Zone in PLANET and BENEATH. What Dante's
island mountain of Purgatory symbolizes (in contrast with the "Old
World" centered on the "holy" city of Jerusalem), the island
continent of New America (once-Australia) symbolizes, in contrast
with the ruins of Old America, which has returned to Monarchism
(Caesar's rule), Theocracy (the priesthood of 'Lawgiver' types), and
a Race-based social hierarchy (Apes in charge, humans subjugated).

Patrick

P.S. I first became interested in the works of Dante after realizing
that BATTLE FOR THE PLANET OF THE APES owes a great deal to
Dante's "Divine Comedy". Caesar's trip to the Forbidden City,
accompanied by an orangutan named Virgil (who knows "everything about
everything") is referred to (by MacDonald) as a trip to "the Hell my
forefathers talked about"--BATTLE is "Caesar's INFERNO" in a way.
Dante (in his INFERNO) was accompanied by the ghost of the Roman poet
Virgil, who symbolizes that Wisdom which can be obtained without
divine assistance. Ultimately, such "human" Wisdom can only take
Dante so far in his spiritual journey (to the top of Mt. Purgatory);
ultimately, too, the Wisdom the orangutan Virgil helps Caesar to
acquire can only take him so far... or perhaps not. After all, it was
after the blood, sweat, and tears of the "voyages of discovery" which
proved Dante's physical conception of the World was wrong; the
similar scientific discoveries of Galileo & Copernicus proved Dante's
Ptolemaic conception of the Heavens to be equally wrong.
Can "Science" out-do the Theology-based conception of Society
advocated by medieval thinkers like Dante (and Aquinas & Augustine,
etc.)? Well, I (for one) think so... hence my "scenario" regarding
your home continent/country.

Hey Gang,

a little help here:

If the project numbers on the WESTERN COSTUME labels for original Planet of
the Apes wardrobe arein the 2700's, and the project numbers on the original
BENEATH costumes are listed as 2900's, why is that ebay one's label stamped
as 2400? Anyone got any background on this? I still believe the ebay
costume is ligit; the selelr bought it from STARWARES, STARWARES bought it
from Fuller French, and Fuller got them all from WESTERN. I'm just
wondering why that number is different. Maybe a call to Western is in
order.

Let's all go check our outfits out to see what they're stamped with.

Hey, that's a pretty good interpretation of BATTLE.  Why didn't Eric Greene think of that?  The movie is still a substandard APES film, though.

You worry me sometimes (OK, OFTEN!) Patrick.

No I don't think all Brit-descended Aussies should "pack up" and go back to
the UK, leaving the entire continent of Australia to the descendants of
those who were conquered/pushed aside. Nor do the Aboriginals (generally
speaking).

Do you think all Americans should pack up and go home? You really are a
fucking freak.

What's your point about slavery? Are you saying Americans are superior to
Aussies bnecause you "freed" slaves so you could hunt them down and lynch
them? Because you blew the fuck out of each other and at the last minute
decided to claim the Civil War was to free the slaves? Fuck off idiot.

Yes it is a touchy subject Patrick and you can expect the same reaction from
any Aussie you tell your stupid story to. They will say "Typical ignorant
fuck who thinks the answer to everything is re-naming it New America".

And that's where I stopped reading your idiotic post. You like the
conflict, so rather than fuel your hard-on, I'll go back to deleting your
posts just like many other members of this group who would be a lot happier
if you would "pack up" and go back to the real world.

When you say you don't have your health, are you referring to MENTAL health?

Check out this new CD, an early score by Jerry Goldsmith.  Play track 8.  It's called Man Hunt, and you can imagine it as the score to a missing scene from PLANET, like the gorillas in pursuit of Zira and Lucius wagon as they make their escape.

The hair is really my only criticism.  I understand quality hairgoods are expensive, and there probably isn't a big enough market to make it worth their while.  I except all that.  But perhaps they could put us on to someone who can, for the right price, make the film quality hair pieces, for those who don't want to mess up an otherwise good makeup with hairgoods that are just a step up from crepe hair. My 2 cents.

Okay, let's just say I won the lottery, just for conversation's sake.  Once I've finished with all the celebration parties on yaughts with Hef's rent-a-babes, I'm going to get serious about a NEW Planet of the Apes televison series based on the first 2 films and their original characters.
I'm not opposed to taking the premise of the TV series to bigger and better heights either.

As fans and the experts that you all are on this subject, let's come up with an interesting story line, maybe not so much starting at the beginning, but certainly picking up after the conclusion of the first film.

I for one would like to see and introduce new species of apes, Babboon, Madrills, Gibbons, etc., but still keep the styles traditional

Forgive my ignorance here, but when you are talking about replica

Thanks for the birthday wishes. Bill Blake said as the TV show was going down for the third time, the producers enlisted Gene Roddenbury to revamp it and make it more like the movies, including characters like Cornelius and Zira. Bill says he and Paula Crist auditioned for the parts at Gene's house and Gene liked what he saw (I've seen a letter of recommendation for them signed by Gene). Anyway, apparently that was being considered. I wouldn't be surprised if Fox tries to return to the roots on the next "reimagination". Also, Baker wanted to include mandrills, baboons and the like in POTA2001 but there wasn't the time.
If there was going to be a new series, the main thing is I wouldn't want it to be formulaic. That's the kiss of death for POTA. We saw that in the TV show and we saw in the new movie. Give us wild ideas and keep us surprised. I would like to see a continuing storyline instead of wrapping everything up every week. Like "The X-Files" kept interest with their "mythology episodes". Maybe the key would be not having villains as regulars. Also, maybe this would be a good time to make it like Boulle's novel. More modern society. With a TV schedule they'd need to be on sets, like 'Star Trek" where they have control. Locations were the kiss of death for the last show. Maybe even a futuristic society. Apes on horses has been done and it's too complicated for TV every week. - - - Jeff

Thanks Matt, Ken and T. Someone gave me the "Spiderman" DVD. Boy, that's
another example of overcooking. Again, they can do anything with computers
so they defy logic. Spidey can suspend a bus full of kids with his web but
the Green Goblin can break right through it. People might say, "Hey, it's
just "Spiderman" ", but there still can be a believability. But who's to
argue? It made $100 million it's opening weekend and $200 million it's first
        weekend on video.
As Mike said, the best stuff was the extras about the comic book. The
"archive" doesn't have every issue but does have a nice cross-section of the
last 40 years. And there's a good doc on the comic. Better as a rental than
a purchase, but since it was given to me, I'm not complaining. I'm looking
forward to "Attack of the Clones" as a DVD next Tuesday. - - - Jeff

        .html Hi Helen,

Sorry to confuse you with all  that gun stuff.  APEMANIA's REPLICAS are "non-guns" meaning they can not chamber or fire life ammunition, weather it be blanks or real ammo.  Our deluxe weapon replicas have what are known as "airsoft" guns inside as the "workings".  Airsoft guns fire a small plastic BB, and are anything but "soft" if  you happen to be on the receiving end.  Our economy models are just solid dummy props.

Our deluxe weapon frames or "stocks" can house real firearms, and that's what LordTeezy was asking about.  So all of the subsequent SMG talk that followed was in reference to real firearms, beacuse Lordie was interested in having an Ape SMG with a real sub-machine gun in it.  There's one for the nightly news!

Yes, but I'm trying very hard not to. A film so dreadful that even I
only managed to watch the first half of it - and believe me, I've
watched some utter dross. I could even watch Time of the Apes again,

My friend's brother lives in Australia and my friend (who lives here
in the UK) is looking to get him a DVD (I think it might be a box-set
of some description) for Christmas. Rather than trying to find
somewhere that will sell him an Oz-compatible disc then posting it
out, it would obviously be easier if he could order it online from an
Oz-based site, paying by credit card, and just getting shipped
straight to his brother in Oz. This would save a lot of time and
        money, obviously.

My question is, do you guys know of any reputable sites like that?
Something like Amazon, though I notice they don't have an Australian
        site as yet.

        Thanks!

First time I saw the original on the big screen (the only one of them
I've seen in a cinema) was 3pm on October 31, 1999 (I have the ticket
on the wall in front of me). They were showing a few classic
late-60s/early-70s sci-fi and horror films. I went to see a few of
them and the print quality on some of them was a little poor, but
thankfully the PotA print was passable.

First time I "lost it" to the apes was when I saw Battle on TV. I am
still researching the exact time, but at the moment I think it was the
last Saturday in January, 1990, sometime in the afternoon.

Actually a lot of people down here get their machines de-zoned ( any shonky repair shop will do it ) so they play discs from any territory. I order most of my discs from America generally because they're released earlier, quite often have more features ( because we do share the Pal system w/ Europe the discs are often authored in the UK and a lot of space is taken up with Euro language options meaning some features get dropped), the packaging is sometimes better and some titles don't get released here at all because our population is smaller or Aussie distributors may not have distribution rights here for certain films.
A lot of the Anchor bay stuff never gets released here and if it does,it's generally by some small independent company who can't afford to buy the rights for the special features that Anchor Bay invested in creating.

I wouldn't contribute to IMDB because basically I couldn't be bothered. So call me a lazy Aussie.
Entertainment is subjective, the reviews on IMDB wouldn't influence my decision to see a movie just as media film critics' opinions don't influence my decision to see a movie or not. I'll see a movie because I want to see it ( either because the trailer got me in or because I'm interested in the subject matter) and then I'll make my own opinion which I would probably share with friends but don't feel compelled to share it with strangers.
        But that's just MY opinion.

Yeah, I guess so, but I do wish I had a POTA gorilla outfit, but it would have to be from the original movie with an original gun.  Then I'd book a flight to Australia.

All of the apes appear to be wearing full-head masks, like the
extras in POTA. They have some limited movement of the mouth area,
but that's as good as it gets. Some are better than others. The
worst mask is the gibbon child called Pepe, whose mouth does not
seem to move at all. They probably did their best on the gorillas
named Gebâ (usually pronounced Gebar in the English compilation) and
        the Commander.

Yeah, and I forgot "B.J. and the Bear."  I would place that before PLANET but I'm talking like earth before Taylor took off.  You see in my scenario B.J. got a little to friendly Bear, who it turned out was a girl chimp.  Well, the next thing you know chimps can talk, so what does mankind do?  They make them into secret agents.  But then they worry that the chimps know too much, so they turn them into slaves.

You've given me a good idea, Jeff. Since no one else has done it
yet, I will work on my own English-language episode guide to the
Army of the Apes series and post it in the "Files" section on the

        episodes.

So all of the subsequent SMG talk that followed was in reference to real firearms, beacuse Lordie was interested in having an Ape SMG with a real sub-machine gun in it.  There's one for the nightly news!

I don't see why.  All of the A props in the film had real guns in them.  I've seen some pretty cool custom stocks in my time, but the ape stocks have them all beat.  To bad the Madsens are becoming so rare.  I have seen some similar Czech ones, but not only were they de-miled and  non-firing, but left side cockers.  Not the best candidates.

What caught my interest at first was simply that it was an "Apes"
tale that I had not seen (the more the merrier!). So it was
fascinating just to see a "re-imagining" of an SF story of a planet
where apes have superceded humans as the dominant species. It is
another vision of a future ape society.

Before I ever saw the English "selections from" feature Time of the
Apes, I read a lot of the lambasting it has received on the
        internet.

What surprised me when I eventually saw TOTA was how unique the
story was. It did not strike me as a POTA "rip-off". The story has
more in common with other material than the 1968 POTA film, such as
        L. Sprague de Camp's "Genus Homo". The special effects show more
effort than the POTA TV series, although they are reminiscent of all
of the '50s Japanese destructive monster movies. And they clearly
were playing to the young audience with the children as main
        characters.

The revelation at the end of TOTA that humans lost their world
basically due to apathy is consistent with Boulle's novel, and you
could draw a few comparisons between TOTA and Battle, I think.

On one level, you can just take it as light-hearted B-movie fun with
apes from a Japanese film maker. On another, it is interesting to
compare or contrast the story with the other POTA stories.

Since the Army of the Apes series was released in Japanese only with
no subtitles, it is difficult as a non-Japanese speaker to be sure
of the plot. However, as it is an action-based series, you can get
the gist of the plot, and the English TOTA film along with the on-
line episode guides help as guides to the key points. I quite enjoy
the two theme songs as well.

That's a generalization.  Some left wingers are mean.  Bill Clinton comes to mind, but I'm sure you'll find some way to defend his actions.  Like saying he didn't do anything, or questioning the definition of is.  But then maybe all those deaths were suicides.  If the Clinton's were friends of mine I certainly consider it.  Gary Condit, how's that investigation going, eh?  But I'm sure some demos are good people.  To say all left wingers were murderous sex fiends would be a generalization.

Two pupils (Jirô and Yurika) are taken on a visit to a cryogenic
sleep research facility by their teacher. Much of the research going
on is being done on primates. While at the labs, a devastating
earthquake traps the threesome in cryogenic freeze pods. They are
buried for eons and discovered by an ape society that inhabits a
        nearly post-human world.

They are taken to a guarded facility, from which they break loose
and discover the frightening reality of a world populated by talking
apes! Ape society is quite diverse, and includes gorillas,
        chimpanzees, mandrills, and gibbons.

The apes have hunted "naked apes" close to extinction. The 3 meet a
brave human who lives on Green Mountain, a tabu area for all apes.
Gôdo, is a swashbuckler-type hero, the last native-born human alive,
and fights a one-man battle for survival. The ape leader, Minister
Bippu, saves the group of 4 naked apes from execution, and takes
        them into his care.

Gôdo does not trust any ape and escapes with Jirô. Together they
explore the ape world alone for several episodes, while they try to
find a way to return and rescue the teacher and Yurika, who have
remained in the protective custody of Bippu and his guard.

Throughout the series, Gôdo is relentlessly pursued by his nemesis
Police Chief Gebâ, a Javert-type enemy who seeks justice against the
renegade naked ape, who Gebâ believes killed his son and wife. Also
throughout the series is a recurring presence of a technologically
superior society who travel in space ships. These flying saucers
appear occasionally and alter events on the planet in a deus ex
machina fashion. We do not understand why until the end of the
series. The apes fear and revere the flying ships, however Minister
Bippu seems to know the truth.

Gôdo and Jirô team up with a supportive gibbon child named Pepe, who
assists them in foiling many an ape scheme. They later encounter a
robot, Chippu, who is programmed to serve, and who essentially
becomes their body guard. Eventually, Gôdo and Jirô learn that they
are really in Japan, on a peninsula south of Tokyo (it looks from
the map as if the forbidding Green Mountain may actually by Mount
        Fuji).

Yurika and the teacher are treated well by the Gorilla leader, but
in one episode Yurika is kidnapped by a curious, and harmless ape
named Lagu. There is plenty of time to see various aspects of rural
ape society (looks like traditional Japan) and learn an ape love
song in the Yurika and teacher episodes.

Stories of the presence of the new naked apes have spread, and
heretofore subdued factions within ape society are now rebelling,
challenging the benevolent but firm rule of Bippu.

Bippu later regains control over the rebellion, and we learn that
ape society is overseen by an all-controlling UEC COM (Universal
Environmental Control Computer). The hub of this master computer is
discovered by the 4 remaining naked apes. Created by a former human
society, this omnipotent computer was placed in control of all major
earth functions. Humans had divested themselves of responsibility
for day-to-day functioning, even to the point of breeding apes to
perform their tasks for them and to fight their wars. UEC COM came
to the conclusion that the now apathetic humans were superfluous,
and granted control of the world to the more industrious apes, who
have since hunted humans to extinction. UEC COM permits ape society
to take a natural course, but intervenes to restore order when
        necessary.

The 4 naked apes are deemed too unsettling to the current ape world
and are given the choice of going into another time period or of
being transported to another planet. They opt for the former, and
end up back home in their own time. The individualist Gôdo rejects
the computer's proposal and ends up lost in a colorless expanse of
        the time-space contiuum.

You asked for the storyline! That's the short version.

As some may not consider this appropriate for the POTA list, we can

Give us wild ideas and keep us surprised.

GIVE seems to be the operative word there, Mr. Project Greenlight.  It never ceases to amaze me that people expect others to do their work for them simply for the privilege of doing it.  Well, as the old saying goes, you get what you pay for.

Now this is just being a hypocrite. You accuse Rory of generalizing
and then you turn around do the same thing. Then you compound it by
twisting facts and throwing in innuendo. For the record, Vince
Foster was the only Clinton administration official to commit
suicide. It was ruled a suicide by the DC police and to suggest
otherwise is as bad as suggesting that because Mel Carnahan and Paul
Wellstone both died in plane crashes that they were somehow murdered
by republicans. Both theories are rubish.

        > Gary Condit, how's that investigation going, eh?

Yes and thank god for FOX news covering this 24/7 in the summer of
2001 while that damn liberal CBS news was too busy sending their
correspondents to Afganistan to investigate possible terrorist
        attacks against the US.

Well I rather have a sex fiend than a war monger as President. Less
        innocent people die that way.
