In my opinion it is just sloppy writing when an audience member needs to add SO much conjecture to attempt to understand a film. Like in Matrix III. UGHHHH...Most movie goers have lives. They need to get it the first time . Look at "Memento." Or the "Sixth sense" or the even the original 'Apes" for that matter. You see the rusting Statue of Liberty buried in the sand and realize you've been on earth the whole time. I sat there in 1968 and the ENTIRE audience had there mouths open. We could barely stand to get up out of our seats. Suttle but totally effective. THAT was screen writing 1-A !

I'll explain this because the chances of there ever being a POTA II to write it for have become so remote that there's no point not explaining it.  That's right folks!  You won't see this explanation on DG!  This is a POTA Group exclusive!  Seen for the first time anywhere!

Leo went back to his time.  But as we saw in the movie, first in doesn't mean first out.  Weight (mass) may have something to do with that, though my evidence is circumstantial.  Thade was stuck on the other planet, but there was another pod at the bottom of the swamp.  Though I don't believe that he used that one.  It just isn't likely he could raise and repair that craft to flying condition.  What is more likely is that, though the captain of the Oberon wouldn't risk another a pod on a chimp, he would on a pilot, namely Leo.  There was an Alpha pod and a Delta pod, so there was at least a Beta pod and a Gamma pod in reserve.  It's also logical to assume that the "Rescue Mission" pilot would go to the ship and try to read the logs as Leo did, freeing Thade.  Thade might have learned how to fly the pod from the computers, or more likely bullied the pilot who freed him into teaching him how to fly it.  Thade, having no place in an Ape/Human society, and wanting revenge on Leo for it would use that pod to follow him back to Earth.  However arriving on Earth before Leo he would probably have been put under observation by the authorities and examined.  Possibly as a genetic prototype for warrior apes to be used in place of soldiers by the army.  It is then feasible that Thade either escaped and took charge of the Ape army or fooled his captors into putting him in charge as their leader and then turned on his own side after defeating the enemy, and then took over the world.

If you find any holes in that scenario, let me know.

Then let's chat. The only ones who speak up around here are the wise acres. You can tell the differnec because one group has "DG" after POTA and the other doesn't (DG stands for "DiGnity").Who all is here? People keep popping up but usually you wouldn't know anyone's here but the wind. Everyone stay close, you could get lost here in the dark. - - - Jeff

What is really funny is I don't know who is who on which board and who started it really. (?!) It is all a bit confusing to us Ape fans who are new here (on either board ) or don't want to bicker just to chat. (lol ) It's all a bit silly.

Actually they had.  Mike is an attention whore.  I say we drop it again.  Keeping it going is probably what Michael wants.  Why feed the fires?  He can, if he wants to be, be a nice person.  I've seen it.  But I think he also enjoys being an asshole, and we give him every opportunity to be one when we play into his machination and give him more ammo.

They obviously did something wrong with the "Matrix" sequels, they didn't do so hot, especially # 3. The same with the new POTA. Confusion is not a high priority for audiences. - - - Jeff

Now get your bitch arse in the basement and pencil a few more pages

Here's one person who doesn't want to listen to this shit Patrick.

And the other new member.

Hunter was another who begged you to stop.

Greg #2 did the same last time I believe.

Kassidy said the same (I think she AND Hunter have left the group
now, and they were both valuable posters).

There's plenty Patrick. If you apply the same passion you have for
hating me to finding the posts I am talking about you would be
surprised.

Fact is you guys love the bitching and I think that is bacause this
group is as close as you get to human relations - and that's very
sad.

Can you believe some of the rubbish Mike posts?  And not just here?  Here's a nice sample of one of his DG musings.

Well folks, I think in order to be consistent, it might be time to stop
discussing religion and politics here.

We recently decided to moderate posts on a theme that offended some
members...I think this topic is likely to generate FAR more discontent.

I know POTA does involve Race and Politics, but I only want to discuss
elements that don't offend people here unless the group vote otherwise.

Michael

You know, it's really funny.  Why?  You may well ask.  It's funny because the people that Planet of the Apes should have offended, were actually too stupid to know that it was talking about them.  So they weren't offended at all.  That includes a lot of the suits at Fox.  Now, lets all stop talking about religion, politics and social satire and get back to discussing Apes.  I was going to say, "Let's get back to talking apes." but some people might not have got it.

Hey, I missed this from Patrick about me leaving the group.

It is kinda funnt. Remember Tom, who had a huge problem with the
DG? He's ANOTHER person who asked for the bitching to stop on this
group. He addressed me, as many do, because they feel I am more
mature than you other losers and I will eventually let it go and get
on with it.

I asked him to take note while I left the group for a month, and see
how long T and Patrick would carry on. It was a VERY long time.

I have also been off the group for the last 3 days. The last post I
read was T saying he was in the christmas spirit and anticipating a
negative response from me. What actually happened was I received
another 30 or so insults befor I posted again.

So thanks for the invitation to leave the group I have been in for
longer than anyone else here, but I have a better idea. I'll stay,
and you and T can stay off the DG OK? HAhahahahahha!!

Michael

If you like that one, Jeff you might get a kick out of turd buglers, or some other classics, like rump wranglers, pillow biters, chode smokers, or my personal favorite bone smugglers.  Though I must admit ham slammers is a good one.  I hadn't hear that one before.

Yes, it is.  Just plain silly.  And I've tried to bury the hatchet many times.  But Mike moves surprisingly quickly for a large man.

Yes, I don't know if it was the writers or it was Burton's fault.  But it's ultimatly up to the director.  ANd I guess it was the only way to have an original way to rip off the endings from both the movie and the book.

Yes, and no.  The first time I saw Buckaroo Banzai, I got it, and yet I was still totally lost.  But I knew there was something there I liked.  And I enjoyed watching it and subsequent viewings from which I'd pick up new things all the time.  It has good watchability.  But I agree the POTA ending.

Yes, well, for someone who says he's so much more mature than the rest of us, you certainly are being a big baby about it.  Do you kids get their own presents for Christmas, or do you just let them play with the Ape toys you spent that money on?  Look.  I'll stop when you stop.  But I guess I won't have to worry about that any time soon.  Will I?

ME? GAY???? I'm not even HAPPY!!!

I've received your e-mails both on and outside this group, Michael, and this
is my final word on the matter: I, too, don't want to keep this going, and
the bottom line is this: "h-slammers" was a joke. Anyone who didn't think
it was a joke should realize that if that now infamous post of mine was
meant to offend, I sure would have used much, much, harsher words to
describe gays, or in this case Brent, who has been proven not gay by the
POTA GROUP court.

And as for Jeff's contest, I still say the only reason Brent didn't bang
Nova was because he didn't want to get the clap.

Hey Jeff, instead of another contest, how about you start a poll- "How many
of you would have nailed Nova anyways, regardless of the consequences!"

Survey says............

I think it basically comes down to their attitudes.  Brent's can be summed up in the phrase ... "I gotta get out of here.  Yeah, I gotta get back up there.  I don't know how, or what with, but I'm not staying here."  A very Leoistic attitude.  Leo had every female on the planet throwing herself at him and he wouldn't give them a pull.  However Taylor's attitude was a complete 180 to theirs.  And can be summed up in the phrase ... "There is just one reality. You are here, and it is now.  You better get ahold of that right now or you might as well be dead."  Or as they used to say back then ... If you can't be with the one you love, honey, love the one you're with.

Chalk me up for nailing her. She looked damn hot in that animal

Hey all, I caught, for the first time last night that Discovery
Channel documentary on Oliver - the so called `Human-zee'

I've heard of him before (mostly on these groups) but the
strangest thing was when I first saw those pictures of him I felt
this stirring gut reaction of... I don't know... unease? repulsion?

Now I think I'm pretty tolerant of just about everyone and
everything but my `gut' was telling me there was something just
plain `wrong' and maybe I wouldn't be as pleased to see an
evolved ape as I always thought I might?

Then I saw how he is today, riddled with arthrities and partially
sighted and felt nothing but compassion. Did/Does he provoke
such strong feelings in anyone else?

    Well Dan,

At risk of keeping this going, but let me repeat myself:

    (1) Joke or not, name calling is offensive. The issue is not
    whether you are joking or not;

    (2) I'm not saying you are a homophobe, just that whether you are
kidding or not it is totally inappropriate to name-call in a public
group unless you are referring to someone who KNOWS you are kidding,
as with myself and Neil. And even in that situation, those who
don't know Neil and I are friendly enough to kid around like that
might have thought I was REALLY insulting him.

    (3) Because I don't seem to be getting through to you, I have
referred your email to a person in the DG who is a homosexual and
this is what that person had to say:

    --- Michael Whitty wrote:
    >
    > How do I reason with this guy?
    >
    > How do I explain that, joke or not, he shouldn't be name calling?>>

Sadly, I think this is a case of you'll never change his mind and he
isn't willing to change his mind or his POV. I don't think there's
any way he even wants to have a rational discussion because in his
mind he's right and nobody's going to sway him from that misguided
belief. He honestly believes he's being funny, and harmless.

I've come across a lot of people like him in my life, and after I
know they can't be reasoned with I just ignore them. If they're on
one of the lists I control I remove them because I have very strict
rules in place about what is and isn't acceptable posting.

If you have the power to put anti hate speech (including "jokes" of
the kind he tells) in the Rules, I'd do so. If you don't, you may
just tell him you're sorry, but you can't see eye to eye with him on
this issue and because you both have very different ideas about how
people as a group should be treated you'll have to ignore his posts
from now on and cut him out of your circle of posting buddies.

It's about all the power any of us have....to only surround
ourselves with people who uplift us and support us, and not waste
time with peopoe who just want to cause trouble or spread hate.

Sorry I can't be more helpful. All I can say is that the kind of
posts he posts are not allowed on any of the lists I'm in control of
and people like him are the reason my Rules are what they are. I
don't want that sort of stuff on my lists, and I don't want to be
exposed to it on lists that I join. I choose to not be around people
like him, life is to short.

Now go smell some flowers and give your wife a hug and celebrate the
Winter Holidays without this guys tainting the joy of the Season : )

(((HUGS))) to you and yours and a very happy holiday,

Dan, the above is from a homosexual and it explains the situation.
Nowhere in this post have you been called names, even as a joke, and
it is intended to enlighten you, not to threaten you.

Please have a good think about it, and put yourself in the place of
a homosexual, and think about whether your intent is the issue or
whether in fact the point is simply that your comment was offensive
    to some.

    Michael

Here's another example where I am trying to put things into
perspective by referring to a homosexual in the group. I know of at
least 10 male homosexuals and 2 lesbians on the DG. They do not
wish to make their sexual preferences public (on the whole) and
usually choose to complain quietly to a moderator, or simply leave
    the group.

I remember that vaguely. I think I joined right when that was going
down. As a newbie, and because it had already been proposed before I
even joined the list, I didn't feel I had a big enough "voice" to say
anything about it one way or the other.

As you said, it does pose an interesting point, and if handled with
tact and sensitivity it could be an interesting line of discussion.
So even as a lesbian I don't have a real big problem with that one
topic (if handled correctly of course).

<<> Jeff got upset and complained to the "old" chat group where this
has devolved to a guy making a joke about "Hamslammers" and saying
    people are "too sensitive".

I take offence to that term, too. I certainly don't think that paying
attention to feelings or trying to be polite and not use
discriminative terms is "too sensitive". I see it as being polite
and sensitive to others and a real "21st Century man". I think you
    did the right thing.

    one before.>>

Aaaaall righty then. Isn't that special? <snort>

Stupidity just gets me all riled up. Homophobic stupidity gets me
even more riled up. I know that I (as a lesbian) have it easier than
men who are gay, partially because two women together is some sort of
straight man's fantasy, and if a man is gay is it is somehow
incredibly "threatening" to straight males. No that isn't
right...Insecure straight males. I know many, many good and honest
and caring straight males that would get into a fist fight if
hearing those terms aplied to another human being.

    <<
    > Surely this is what the people who complained foresaw and sure
enough, it happened. Degrading terms used to describe homosexuals.

    > What do you think?>>

I think it is some of the most horrible filth I've ever read on the
internet and if it appeared on a list I was on I'd leave
    immediately.

Prejudice, bigotry and homophobia are things I am working very hard
to get people over. I never dismiss hate in any form, never
say "boys will be boys" or "it's harmless". It IS harmful...very,
    very much so.

So if you have any say in the matter, I'd suggest removing those
people from the list or at the very least issuing a warning about
posting content. Posting words of hate should *never* be allowed on
any online list filled with civilised people.

    At least that's my opinion. : )

Again guys, I'm not flaming or name calling, just trying to
    enlighten.

I'm sure I'll be burnt at the stake for it too, but I hope you can
all have a good think about this. Your continuing to exchange fun
names for gays is probably offending SOME people here at least -
wouln't it be wiser to do so in private?

You guys are, in the very least, proving to me that your NOT being
in the DG is a wise desision.

Jeff and Greg #2, I am very disappointed that you choose to chime
in, as I am sure all of the females and homosexuals in both groups
    are disguted with your behavior.

Homosexuals are people too, and they have different opinions on the
matter. I know who the person is and she's very nice. I'm sorry she had to
hear that stuff out of context. Doesn't change my opinion of the contest
    (it's valid) or it's censorship. - - - Jeff

Class Project: After the holidays, let's go through the archives and see
if Mr. Whitty has any gay jokes in his repertoire. We can round 'em all up
and send them to "the homosexual" and get some advice about what to do about
him. He's got to learn that people can take things the wrong way. - - - Jeff

Well if you know who it is and you feel misrepresented, then you
should approach the person in question and put forward your points
    too.

Frankly, I think the context is well summarised, but if I am wrong
    please let me know.

It is the namecalling that is the issue, not the contest or the
moderating. Do you still think you did the right thing
saying "that's hilarious, I'll have to remember that one"?

Sounds like a great idea and a valuable project for a Planet of the
Apes group. Or then again, maybe it belongs on a different group
altogether. But anyway, do let me know what you come up with...I
don't think you'll have much joy.

If you do however, I can bet my approach wouldn't be the arrogant,
self adoring "Oh well, I shouldn't have done that but I was angry so
it's OK!". It would be more like "I never should have said that and
I'll make every effort not do do it again".

I'm with LordT, too, Jeff. He was 100% correct about Michael,
unfortunately. Michael's the one who's taking strides to keep this going
with all that shit about interviewing his amigos and getting their opinion.
He's just going further to paint me as someone I'm not. If that makes his
Christmas happy, so be it- he's the one discriminating me over a simple joke
and Jeff over his contest. After all the info Jeff has provided for the the
group, by banning his message about the winner of his contest it makes Jeff
look like a deadbeat who doesn't deliver. This is Jeff, for Pete's sake?
Maybe Whitty's jealous he doesn't have the contacts in the POTA world Jeff
does. Next time Jeff makes a heterosexual joke to me, I'm going to get all
offended, tell my wife, we're gonna play the boo-hoo hetero-card, pretend
like we're so attention starved and act like we're just dying to tell the
world that my wife and I enjoy making love to each other, etc. etc. blah
blah blah, etc. etc. blah blah. Can't take a joke? Call Whitty Whitty &
Whitty, your attorneys who will take your case regardless of how silly it
    is. That's 1-800-MIK-WHITTY.

Have a good Christmas, T & Jeff, thanks for being real.

I said that as a shot at political correctness, not as a shot at gays. No,
I don't think the "h" word is particularly funny. And I respect your
correspondant's opinion, but I don't share it. There is such a thing as

That's all he knows.  He gets his jollys and gets to look like the good guy, which at leat we know, he isn't.  He gets his kick putting down anyone who puts anyone down, even as a joke.  Then he gets to be the enforcer of good taste.  How's that for a joke?

Everyone's entitled to their opinion. My "h" post has caused waaaay
much more trouble than it was worth and again, I used the word as a
joke, not intended to be interpreted as racist, homophobic, ignorant,
rude, vulgar, etc. etc. I can't say it much more without sounding
like a broken record, I can't be more honest than that- I'M NOT
PREDJUDICE, MR. WHITTY! Certain monikers are okay with the gay
community, I obviously used one that wasn't. Again, unintentional.
We can move on, knowing that I won't poke fun again, or Mr. Whitty
can continue to survey his friends and try to crucify me.

And anyone that sees Mr. Whitty as their hero, or the hero he's
trying to become, Michael sent me a somewhat fair e-mail outside the
group a few days ago talking about the "h" word, sensitivity, wanting
to end our "war" and such. He also said that anytime I wanted to
swap gay jokes with him outside the group, I could do so "anytime" as
he put it. I never once mentioned I wanted to swap jokes with him or
anyone, but I only mention this because since I politically-correctly
interpret the word "swap" as a two way street, it's proof that Mr.
Whitty, too, has a sense of humour with the gay community. I
certainly don't think Michael is racist or predjudice, but if you're
gonna try and make me out to be some sort of bigot, look in the
mirror, my friend. You're human, too, and God bless you if you've
never had something you said or typed be misinterpreted. I said it
before (but I couldn't help following up on some of Jeff's jokes, I'm
sorry about that- he's such a bad influence on me, that guy!),but
that's my last word on this subject.

Peace to all, have a good Christmas.

    You've met Kim, T?
You're very lucky. I sent her an INKWORKS Zira card back in '99
asking her to autograph it. She sent it back in what couldn't have
been more than two weeks autographed on both front and back (the back
had a photo of Kim without the POTA makeup).
While I'm on the topic, I heard back from James Gregory the same
year, he signed an INKWORKS Ursus card for me front and back- the
front said "Ursus" and back said "James Gregory". He included a few
    other items as well.
I treasure both cards, that was my only link to them. It's a shame
    neither are longer with us.

I used to write and talk to her on the phone.  I did get to spend a week with her in Memphis at the film festival in '01.  The last night there was a black out so we sat up together in the lobby.  I can't sleep without A/C and she was nervous but, in her own words, she's always been as nervous as a cat.  That's part of the reason I supported the war.  As you probably know she had a heart attack one year to the day after 9/11.  It's payback, but Whitty doesn't see it my way.  Even though his country had troops there as well.

Kim was a wonderful lady, always took time for the fans. The only thing
she wouldn't do is do an interview through the mail. Well, maybe there's
other things she wouldn't do, but I didn't ask, ahem. And Heston, too. Kim
said she would often receive the famed "kiss" photo in the mail to autograph
and Heston had already signed them. - - - Jeff

She sent me an autographed photograph which she signed, which I still have but it was damaged by the post office so I wrote to her again and sent me a new photo and also a letter was also enclosed.

Looked like a green one here in Southern Ontario, but we lucked out with a

my oldest daughter got a lot of Lion King stuff including some really cool

*** Hmmm... Mike quotes an anonymous lesbian (a member of the DG,
presumably) as saying that the "gay-jokes" offended her -- she calls
it "some of the most horrible filth I've ever read on the internet".
Well, she has a right to be offended at anything whatsoever. Big
deal. If she can't take a joke, then that's her problem. But to
suggest that Jeff (or Dan, or anybody else) is a HATER of homosexuals
just because of the content of one of Jeff's contests ("Is Brent
Gay?"), or because of a goddamned JOKE, well, that's just a bunch of
shit. Has this anonymous lesbian ever seen a "roast", like the one
they re-ran on Comedy Central late last night -- the "roast" of Denis
Leary? One of his best friends is a fellow comedian named Mario
Antone who is a FLAMING homosexual (anybody who's seen his stand-up
routine will know this). Each of Denis Leary's roasters made raunchy
jokes about everybody else there, including Mr. Antone -- they all
told off-color, raunchy jokes about EVERYTHING, including Mario's
flaming homosexuality, and because it WAS a venue for such humor
EVERYBODY THERE GOT THE FUCKING JOKE. Mario, the gay comedian,
laughed just as hard at the gay-jokes aimed at him as everybody else
there -- and he "gave" as good as he "got" jokewise, when it was his
chance to take the stage and roast Mr. Leary.

To the anonymous lesbian Mike quoted: Get a goddamned sense of humor,
you fishmonger! There's a difference between Jokes and Hate-speech,
and you make yourself out to be a thin-skinned "victim" over nothing
when you choose to take offense at harmless speech. Furthermore, for
you to suggest that Mike "remove those people from the list" -- in
effect, Censor and Banish them -- is something that true lovers of
free speech can only find reprehensible, as horrid or more than any
true act of racism/sexism/etc. I should think that ANYONE who belongs
to a group which historically has been the victim of Censorship and
Exclusion should be the LAST person to suggest just that sort of
thing as the solution (the "final" solution?) to the "problem" of
    joking around.

Jokes are NOT "words of hate". Nothing that Jeff or Dan said (or T or
I, for that matter) are hateful -- certainly not their intent. For
anybody to DECLARE that it is only serves to show that some people
are too intolerant towards the FREE SPEECH of others, CHOOSING to
take offense where none was intended.

The Anonymous Lesbian: "So if you have any say in the matter, I'd
suggest removing those people from the list or at the very least
issuing a warning about posting content."

The orangutan President: "Bailiff: Gag the animal!"

What happened to Landon? His ability to speak intelligently was
surgically removed via prefrontal lobotomization, a surgical
procedure which Zaius threatened Taylor with, in addition to
emasculation. When Cornelius protests the destruction of the artifact-
filled Cave, Zaius orders a gorilla to "Silence" him. Cornelius and
Zira have to warn Brent "never to speak" if he should be caught by
the gorillas, who would "dissect" and "kill" him -- in that order --
if they should hear him speak. The Ape-onauts become targets of
Hasslein's well-meaning homicidal (simicidal?) leanings after Zira
chooses to disobey Milo's urge that they conceal their ability to
speak ("I can speak, so I spoke!") -- what she wound up saying while
being interrogated ends up making her a victim. Armando, under the
forced influence of the Authenticator, is compelled to betray his
friend and foster-son -- his "freedom of speech" was violated,
because one should have the freedom NOT to speak (as in the Miranda
warning: "You have the right to remain silent..."), if one so
chooses -- yet Armando was denied that right (and Caesar was intended
to suffer electrocution for his ability to speak). Virdon and Burke
(and Galen) are pursued by Urko's gorillas because of the "infection"
their Knowledge represents -- their superior science represents a
disease (communicable by COMMUNICATION with downtrodden humans and
2nd-class apes) which the State wishes to eradicate; Urko mentions,
at one point, the removal of the "front bump" on the head -- the same
lobotomy procedure that Landon will endure 9 centuries later.

The "PLANET OF THE APES" movies (and TV show) are unanimous in their
condemnation of those who are opposed to Free Speech rights... so why
the FUCK would anybody who claims to be a POTA fan recommend such
fascist tactics as Censorship and Banishment from a POTA discussion
    group?

Answer: no TRUE fan of POTA would ever do so. Only a jerk who got a
kick outta "talking monkeys" and who couldn't see and/or appreciate
the films' thematic content would ever advocate censoring anybody,
let along "removing those people from the list".

It just goes to show that even anonymous lesbians with thin skin can
be just as fascist as a goose-stepping Nazi.

    P.S. I'm not flaming or name-calling -- I'm just trying to enlighten.
    Merry Kringle.

There was a little Christmas message on Family Guy last night that I think applies to some of the attitudes over at the other POTA group.

Peter: As we all know, Christmas is that mystical time of year when the Ghost of Jesus rises from the grave to feast on the flesh of the living!  So we all sing Christmas Carols to lull him back to sleep.
Bob: Outrageous, How dare he say such blasphemy. I've got to do something.
Man #1: Bob there's nothing you CAN do.
Bob: Well, I guess I'll just have to develop a sense of humour

Excuse me for asking, but what is the purpose of this group?

I joined to talk about Planet of the Apes. Why is it that 95% of
your emails are about another group and a guy named Michael (or
Whitty - I assume they are the same person?).

Whitty seems to have too much time on his hands for countless crap postings.  Just ignore him.

So, what do you want to talk about in regards to POTA, Honorius65?  65?  Does that mean you were born in 65?

That's what I'd like to know. I bring up topics and few comment on them.
Usually a group has a few chatterboxes that keep things humming but the
chatterboxes here have a grudge against each other. For those who want this
group to succeed (whether to get back at the DG or not), I suggest we cut to

Here's Ebert's closing paragraph on Big Fish...Sound familiar?

In a sense we are also at the bedside of Burton, who, like Old Edward, has been recycling the same skills over and over again and desperately requires someone to walk in and demand that he get to the point. When Burton gives himself the guidance and anchor of a story, he can be quite remarkable ("Ed Wood," "The Nightmare Before Christmas," "Sleepy Hollow"). When he doesn't, we admire his visual imagination and skillful techniques, but isn't this doodling of a very high order, while he waits for a purpose to reveal itself?

*** That's EXACTLY what I thought when I started readin' Mr.
Honorius65's message. Who was it (Cougar?) who tracked down James'
server as the one where those forged e-mails were coming from?
Howzabout doing the same thing with Honorius65's server? I suspect
that Mike & Hon65 both emanate from the same cyber-orifice, like a
pair of sour farts. How much "dignity" can Mike have if he feels the
need all of a sudden to pretend he's somebody else, like a goofy
comic book vigilante -- all for the sake of inventing a doppelganger
to boost his own ranks of supporters... with himself!? C'mon, Hon65,
be like those fleshy-headed mutants and peel off the mask -- reveal
your inmost self unto your foes!

talked out. Let's be proved wrong about that. - - - Jeff

*** Okay, Jeff, here's the first POTA question from me: Would the
citizens of the fascist U.S.A. portrayed in "CONQUEST OF THE PLANET
OF THE APES" view the carnage in Breck's city with the same horror
and outrage that most of us felt when we saw the TV footage on 9/11
as it was happening? Wouldn't the average American, upon seeing
footage (if it were being broadcast) of Caesar ranting about "the day
of the writing in the sky... Man's downfall... the birth of the
planet of the apes!... our OWN religion, our own DYNASTY!..." (etc),
react by suggesting that the entire U.S. armed forces go over to
Breck's burning city and slaughter all those uppity apes? Wouldn't it
be likely that most of the humans watching Apes slaughter Humans on
TV would tend to side with the humans, despite the legitimate
complaints of Caesar regarding Slavery and the inhumanity of the
people living off the labor and degradation of the Apes?

I don't think this kind of question really could have been asked
prior to 9/11, an event which has been too recent to have engendered
enough severe scrutiny. The Al-Qaeda jerks who committed those
atrocities do so because in their minds THEY are the heroes fighting
against America -- which they view as an "evil" society that helps
the hated Jews "occupy" allegedly Muslim land ("Palestine" rather
than "Israel") and defiles the "holy" ground of Saudi Arabia, with
its "holy" sites (Mecca & Medina). Caesar's promise/warning that the
Apes will found their own Religion, in particular, suggests that
there is a "jihad" aspect to his fight against the Brecks of the
world -- a world he knows AND HOPES will destroy itself.

Isn't it likely that in the aftermath of Caesar's violent victory
over Breck's security forces, the Humans watching the gory footage on
their TV sets all across the country -- and the world -- would wish
to kill off every ape in the world, now that they've proven
themselves to be a "threat" to humanity? Wouldn't the humans justify
slaughtering their enslaved apes by invoking self-preservation, and
pointing their fingers at the violence that MacDonald lamented in
    Caesar's presence?

How's THAT for a POTA question & topic of discussion?

Really.  No one can kick you off, here.  What's the point?  I think he just wanted support.  Because there isn't anyone here on his side.  So how can he feel right?  But back to Apes.  If no one has a topic how about snagging one off DG, if they have one.

It depends on whether or not they were aware of the prophecy.  Did the power that be, i.e., the government and the media tell the public about it before the plague?  Or did they play guardians of the terrible secret just like Zaius did with Taylor?  Obviously they knew about Zira and Cornelius.  That news was international.  But I think the rest of the story was suppressed.  Hassline was dead.  Lewis and Stevie thought everyone else was dead, and it they didn't then they would have no reason to talk, and Armando certainly didn't.  And the government, at least at the end of the film, felt no obligation to reveal anything to the public.  In fact they may have used DNA in a breeding program to produce intelligent apes.  They didn't look like primitive apes.  I think someone said earlier that the Orangs from Borneo looked different after going through Ape management.  Though I think that postnatal manipulation is more far fetched.  If the public had know they might have felt more resigned to their fate -- feeling they were asking for it, by fulfilling the prophecy, and got what they deserve for tempting providence.
