checked out the Videos section of the Internal Website knows that
there is a section for 'Greatest Moments'. The original five films
have all been represented.
What are the greatest moments from the remake? The top choices will
be selected to included on the Internal site. <.html

you'll be pleasantly surprized.

The final chapter to the comic project "Beware the Beast" can now be
viewed from my POTA page (along with the previous 11 chapters). Dave
Ballard, Neil Foster, and Michael Whitty have done an amazing job on
this project.
Thanks to James for the BTB HTML source files and the background
music.

Of course let's not forget Quentin Tarantino. Imagine the POTA film
that he'd make. Imagine how violent Conquest would have been if he
made it.

.htmlI believe his name has come up a few times. And he would be a good
choice.
What has always struck me about the original films was the
versatility of their Directors.
Schaffner directed either small dramas like "The Best Man" or big
epics like "Patton" & "Papillon". The closest he ever got to Science
Fiction again was "The Boys from Brazil".
J. Lee Thompson directed "The Guns of Naverone", "Cape Fear"
and "What A Way to Go". All very different movies.
Don Taylor did two of the Omen films, a departure from the light-
hearted Escape.
And Ted Post was mainly a TV & Western director (which would explain
all the damn horse chases in Beneath) but also directed a few Clint
Eastwood films.
None really had an extensive background in directing SF or fantasy
films but then again Hollywood didn't make many SF or fantasy films
in those days.

I believe his name has come up a few times.

Perhaps in order to get more responses on this one, we might need to
reword it to "what are the least bad moments in the movie?", since
so many don't think much of it!
Here are a few that come to mind:
* Thade at dinner party, grabbing Leo Davidson and prying his mouth
open, asking "Is there is soul in there?"
* Pericles landing on the ape planet.
* This last one might not count, but I love the line from Thade that
ended up not being used in the film: "Get me the spaceman!". This
scene in which he is speaking to Gen. Attar is shown in all the
promo shorts/trailers for the movie, but they obviously decided to
take it out. Don't know why I love it, but I just think it's a cool
line for Thade!
* Krull jumping on Davidson, informing him about monkeys' and
humans' place in the evolutionary scale
* Ape Lincoln statue
* Gorilla motorcycle cop dismounting cycle
Maybe I'd have different favorites tomorrow, but these are the ones
that come to mind tonight.

From the list I would choose either Spielberg or Cameron but
only because both directors have enough clout to tell Fox to get
lost once they start trying to interfere with production.
Spielberg can be mushy but Minority report was good solid sci fi
and Schindlers list was pretty unflinching - A tone set
somewhere between the two might be suitable for apes.
Cameron certainly knows how to handle big budgets and big
ideas. The Abyss gets better each time I watch it - Aliens is in my
top ten favourite movies and both his Terminators stand the test
of time.
Jackson, Raimi and Singer are all interesting choices but none
have them have quite proven themselves to me just yet. Strip
away the jaw dropping effects from their movies and how good
are they?
McG, Sena and West? MTV videos yeah, movies that will stand
the test of time - I doubt it.
Dave
ps. I think the oft mentioned Terry Gilliam (although he's not on
the list) might be a good choice for Monkey Planet such a project
might benefit from his non-Hollywood, off-the-wall approach but
maybe not apes 'as we know it'. <.html

chimp like Pericles has better landing skills. There could be a story about humans
and apes in space, the apes would have to be the captain and crew, the humans
could do the service jobs on board. Obviuosly, the apes could join Starfleet.

I noticed in one panel that C&Z's ship is making orbit and it shows
that a stage has detached. This is in line with the theory that the
ANSA ships were multi-stage vehicles with a landing, re-launch and
re-entry stage.
I was wondering if there was any discussion of this before the panel
was drawn.

Thanks James, as for your question,I don't remember any discussion
about it. The reason I drew the ship this way is because to me it
seemed to make sense.
I based it on Brent's ship, where you can clearly see the burnt out
rocket section at the rear. Also there is no 'skid mark' like the
one along the ground behind the ship in the TV series. Brent's ship
has what looks like a 'blast' mark on the ground, as though it has
landed tail first and then toppled over.
So I thought it would work best having the spaceships as tail
landers that then blast off leaving the landing legs behind and then
having that rear booster section detatch in space to finally have a
re-entry type capsule for the final stage of the craft.
Hope this makes sense!

.html There are currently 3 polls running and I thought it would be fun to
look at where they currently stand.
"If Fox were to get a "Planet of the Apes" full length feature
together, who would you want to direct it?"
So far Peter Jackson has a wide lead with 54% of the vote. After
this one is finished maybe we should poll on a different group of
directors then have a run-off between the two leaders.
"What are your favorite group of humans in POTA?"
The wild humans in Planet & Beneath have a mild lead with 33%
followed by The Mutants in Beneath at 25%. I would have thought the
Mutants would have done better but maybe I was ignoring the 'Linda
Harrison factor'.
"If FOX were to mount a new POTA production (Movie, TV Mini-Series,
etc.), which of the following would you like to see most?"
A sixth sequel to the original movie series is the clear leader here
with 43%. A faithful adaption of Boulle's original novel and a
sequel to the 2001 remake tie for second with 21% each. Surprizingly
a follow-up to the TV series has only 7%. Maybe we need more TV
series fans in the group. But I am surprized since I thought more
would want to see a final resolution or wrap-up.
Anyway, for those that have voted, feel free to discuss why you
voted as you did. For those that haven't yet, don't forget to before
these polls end. <.html

This is an impossible poll! I had to choose the Medicom figures
because they are absolutely amazing. Love that Lawgiver and the ape-
o-nauts! I have a special affection for the old Milton Bradley game
because I played it forever as a kid. I never had the POTA View-
Master set until a year or so ago, but I think it's great as well.
Since the TV series novelizations don't cover episode 1 of the 1974
series, the View-Master booklet is the only story in written form
based on that episode a must for an PATV collector.

We hope to have the first strip up here and on Terry's website for

October/early November. We then hope to have each additional strip

This will hopefully be the first of many great projects that we will
be bringing you in the coming months.

servant of Breck who did eventually say 'No'.
Both the Corrington's and Dehn's treatments for Battle had an Aldo

I really am not sure what point I'm trying to make other than the
various Aldos went through several incarnations before hitting the

In the Sunday, August 15th issue of the Los Angeles Times, the Calendar
section featured the latest in their "Working Hollywood" series, a brief profile of
James Newton Howard. In it he discusses his collaboration with director
Michael Mann, his preference for dramas over comedies, his desire to have as much
time as possible to work on a score (he even likes to read the screenplay
before the film is shot), and his favorite composer: "Jerry Goldsmith, I have to
say, is my single favorite composer of all time. He was one of the most
innovative guys ever to do it. You go back to 'Planet of the Apes' and it is just a
monumental score - the sound design and approach to percussion was just so
extraordinary. One of his great scores for me was 'Alien.'"

Hi Rory,,
Goldsmith was an amazingly prolific and versatile composer. The
score for PA68 was absolutely brilliant: percussive, haunting,
frightening in parts. It's hard to imagine what the first film would
have been like without that score. For me, the score is as much a
part of that film as any of the cast or plot devices.

Some difficult choices here. I went for Pericles' landing as my
favorite. It seems to me that Pericles was just about the best
performance in the film, eliciting pathos and admiration at the same
time. Where's his Oscar?
I also voted for the escape from the city of Derkein because I love
all those brief snippets of late night Ape City life. Limbo's vanity
is depicted well in the scene with him wiping rose petals on his
body while hanging upside down in his room. What were other peoples'
favorites?

When I get these e-mails, the link is almost always only half hilighted so
it doesn't work to simply click on the underlined text in blue. If you copy
and paste the entire two lines up to and including the last % sign, it will
work.

.html Thanks for sharing your work, Elaine. The incident at Darius' farm
seems to have changed Security Chief Urko's feelings toward humans.
I wonder if it will last, with Urko being so hard on the humans in
the past? Perhaps Urko's mysterious wife, Elta, got through to him?
Do you foresee a kinder, gentler Central City after the Darius

Good points, Elaine. Overall I was disappointed with the battle in
PA01, but the apes were choreographed well. PA01 had the most
apelike apes we've seen, and they intended to show the apes at an
earlier stage in their evolution than we saw in the previous Apes
movies. The stuntman who devised the ape school for the actors was
amazing.
The only moment in the film that elicited any sympathy from me for
any character was when Gen. Thade sent young Pericles flying, and
injuring the chimpanzee's arm. Moviemakers usually try to get you to
feel something for their characters, and that's the sole scene in
the film that did that for me.

Ho Terry!
It would be nice to know what happened to those guys. There were
only two issues of Apesfan, and they were both very well done.
Apparently they even managed to get an issue in a major store's
magazine racks. I guess it disappeared as quickly as it came. Where
are they now?

Thade in PA01. Does anyone know anything about a Hasbro Thade action
figure from 2001 that does not come with his battle steed? Twice now
(once from Australia, once from Italy, I think) I have seen a Thade
figure on eBay in the usual plastic box for that series, but without
his horse. It is clearly the same Thade, with legs bowed to straddle
the horse, but no horse. The only Thade I saw in stores at the time
was the large box with horse and Thade figure. Was this single,
horseless Thade figure only found in some countries? If you want to
look at the current eBay listing, it is item # 5916382106.

look at the movies they review at DVDDrivein.com, you'll see thay've got some

.htmlHey Miester. Welcome to the POTA group. When the poll started I
expected the Medicoms to do well but never thought they would run
away with it like they have.
And yes there are several great POTA groups on Yahoo including this
one. Many of the same people are in all these groups. Where you post
is your choice. I of course have a bias for this group;-) Hope to
hear from your more. When you have time tell us about yourself and
how you came to discover POTA.

The incident at the farm disturbs him because the humans are so dedicated to
Darius that they save him and the farm. This is loyalty Urko has never seen in
apes. He is rethinking his feelings towards humans and he is conflicted. He
still doesn't like
humans but he is ambivalent about being cruel to them. Elaine

|
.html I run a video editing business on the side and edit peoples home videos and transfer them to DVD
I work with the DVD format all the time so I was thinking if someone had the cartoons on VHS or in WMV or AVI or MPEG format and wanted to send them to me
I'd be happy to do the editing work and make DVD's of this.
Of course there are others that can do this also and there are sellers already on ebay with copies on DVD
but i'm willing to tackle the job if anyone is interested in contacting me

.htmlThanks Terry,
Hunter Goatly has been working on this for several months. Last year
he did a wonderful job putting together at DVD of the Extended
Version of Battle. Me and several other people have sent Hunter our
tapes of the Return series and he's come up with the best possible
versions of all the episodes.
Additionally, he's working on a rareties DVD that will include
things like the Roddy in Ape Make-up segment from the Carol Burnett
show that's on the Internal Site but at a much high quality level.
You may want to contact Hunter to see if you two can join forces on
these projects.

He was nominated for an Emmy for a 2001 production. He's had 3 Oscar nominations ("Greatest Story Ever Told", "Poseidon Adventure" and "Towering Inferno"). Way to go, Bill! - - - Jeff

.htmlI'd like to see Fox start from scratch on a new movie. But I don't think
it would make sense if they don't solve the "mysteries" from POTA2001. They
can't just start over and call it "Planet of the Apes" again. I could live
with Wahlberg again if they had a better script and director. Cut the
budget, no ape armies, just a good intimate story like the original. Solid
science fiction. Set on the future Earth Leo landed on. - - - Jeff

.htmlYou may be right. A new film could begin right where the old one
left off and be a more faithful adaption of Boulle's original novel.
Other than Wahlberg and the reference to Thade, it would be
practically starting from scratch.
