I went to a test screening of his "The Bros. Grimm", which comes out in
Nova- ember. It'll be a $90 million flop. Don't get me wrong, I like
Gilliam, just like I like Tim Burton. But they kinda do their own thing and
I don't think they're appropriate for POTA. "Grimm" will (probably) please
Gilliam's fans, but it's too "out there" for the mass audience it needs.
Maybe with Matt Damon in it (hot from "Bourne Supremacy") and Heath Ledger
it will have a good opening. - - - Jeff

I run a video editing business on the side and edit peoples home videos and
transfer them to DVD
I work with the DVD format all the time so I was thinking if someone had the
cartoons on VHS or in WMV or AVI or MPEG format and wanted to send them to
me
I'd be happy to do the editing work and make DVD's of this.

Of course there are others that can do this also and there are sellers
already on ebay with copies on DVD
but i'm willing to tackle the job if anyone is interested in contacting me

I love Gilliam's work, 12 Monkeys. It is my favorite movie of all time...no
pun intended regarding the title.

- - - Jeff

Moderation is a means of controlling the types of posts that go through. In
my groups, I moderate people only until I know they are cognizant of the
rules and post appropriate material then I unmoderate them.

Personally, I thought it ended brilliantly. Kudos to all involved. One
question, though -- didn't I read a previous thread where someone said
Chapter 12 had a tie-in to the TV series? Did I miss it? Or did I just
imagine the whole conversation in another of my 3:30 a.m.

Through an obscure reference to one of the APESFAN zines I ran across
a site a long time ago. I was finally able to track down George Reis
and even managed to buy a few issues he still had laying around. They
only made 2 which is a shame since they were both great zines.
Thankfully, Simian Scrolls has sprouted since then and from the
rumblings here and there it seems that POTA Chronicles is set for a
resurgence.

Speaking of Scrolls, anyone have an update from John as to when the
new one is due to be out? There was also a discussion a while back
regarding paying for it. Does anyone have an update on that?

I'm in Southern California.. so if anyone in the states wants a copy they could get in touch with me and I could get in touch with you... we could all just get in touch and be felt! YEA!

Forget "as it stands," that's the way it will be, too. Or else the
copies will be just for me and my sources.

Well, after the overwhelming response to the competition I am pleased to say
we have two winners!

Both Hunter Goatley and Anthony B McElveen guessed correctly that it was
Brent's ship hidden beneath the banner of the apes, and they each win a
personally autographed Limited Edition Print of Neil's painting of this
infamous picture from BTB.

We are offering these 50.5 cm x 35.5 cm posters at a special price for all
Yahoo! POTA group members, but each person may only order one.

It will cost you $19.99 for it to be rolled and delivered to you via Air
Mail.

Please let us know if you want a print - I really don't think they will last
long and they have HUGE collectible potential!

For a sneak peek at the print, head to the POTADG Homepage....it's all
wrapped up ready to go for you!

Ho Jeff,
I can't remember which one of the series is coming out first, and I
didn't order them all (a decision I might regret later), but I am
especially looking forward to the Lawgiver statue (once I get over

True they did act more like Apes. But that can be a plus as well as

it really wasn't about Apes but an allegory about humans.

Happy Birthday Mr. Burton.

And speaking of birthdays, one week from today is a very special
birthday. Ours.

The POTA group will be 6 years old on August 31st and the best thing
about this birthday is that you'll (and especially one lucky member)
will get the presents. Stay tuned for more details to come.

The same is true in the movie. And as they become more human the
more of man's flaws they adapt and mistakes they repeat.

Zaius is so afraid of man, he adopts the tactics of censorship and
suppression of the truth as well as religious intolerance.

Subject: Polls Update
.html
Two polls end tomorrow:

"If FOX were to mount a new POTA production (Movie, TV Mini-Series,
etc.), which of the following would you like to see most?"

'A sixth sequel to the original movie series' is in the lead with
34% and 'A follow-up to the TV series' is second with 26%. The three
other choices are tied with 13% each. I thought 'A faithful adaption
of Boulle's original novel' would have done better.

"What are your favorite group of humans in POTA?"

'The Mutants in Beneath' have pulled into the lead with 31%
over 'The wild humans in Planet & Beneath' at 26% and 'The
villager/farmer humans in the TV series' in third place with 16%.

This one ends Friday:

"If Fox were to get a "Planet of the Apes" full length feature
together, who would you want to direct it?"

Not surprizing Peter Jackson has a big lead with 63%.

The next few still have sometime to run:

"What is your favorite POTA toy?"

The Medicoms have a big lead with 50%. The Megos are second with
22%.

"What are the Greatest Moments from POTA2001?"

There's a three way tie currently between "Thade and his
Father", "The Battle" & "Thade is Trapped"

"Who is your favortite Actor in the POTA films/TV series?"

Roddy is leading with 42% followed by James Naughton at 17% (and I'm
sure I know who one of those Naughton votes is, right Kass;-)

Who is your favorite Actress in the POTA films/TV series?

Kim Hunter is way out in front at 73%. I had expected Natalie Trundy
to be doing better though (c'mom Jeff get over here and stuff the
ballot box).

Remember to vote early and often everyone.

And I'd like to remind everyone of the Members Pictures folder in
the Photos Section http://photos.groups.yahoo.com/group/pota/lst .
So far Rory, Greg and Will have put up their pic. Thanks guys. Let's
get some more pics in there.

Good point, James. As the apes become more human, they do develop our flaws.
Zaius
is the best example. He opposes anyone with an opposite viewpoint and hinders
education from moving forward. Elaine

True. IMO the Apes in the first two films seemed to be at a stage of
development equivelent to the late 19th century.

Another question is did the Apes have electricity? All the inside
chambers are well lighted, even at night, but there is no evidence
of lamps or candles.

There's a wall map in Urko's office that's in several episodes.
There's a composite of it on the Maps page in the Art & Info section
of the Internal site.

The year is 3085 in both I beleive. The opening says June of the
year, while in the episode is says March. Most likely the credits
were produced seperately which would account for the difference.
However, Burke does comment about the clock, "That's when it
stopped", so that could account for it too.

Not surprizing, a sixth sequel followed by the TV series wrap-up.
However, I would have expected a faithful adaption of Boulle's novel
to have done better.

Rory,

I just saw the featurette of BTPOTA that is tacked on to the DVD of
the Japanese version of BFTPOTA (James sent it to me)...James tells
me that was from you...Is there any way to upload that to the
site?..."Beneath" is my favorite and there are a few extended scenes
in the featurette that aren't in the movie...

Off the top of my head, the Ursus Speech and the steam bath

different/a moment longer...

It'll be too large to store on the group, unless James can put it on
his page (or can get it to me to put on mine).

Yes. I have a copy of this. It is very poor quality despite being
25MBs. I've tried to reduce the size of the file but since the
source material is so bad, it becomes completely unwatchable. I'll
gladly email a copy of the file to anyone that wants it.

So, that means it'll be the same quality as on the DVD?...Darn!...I
was hoping to get a clearer copy than that...

Subject: Actor Blown Away By Geisha Role
.html
(this POTA mention appeared in yesterday's London Free Press, Canada)

Cary Hiroyuki Tagawa who plays a detective in the NBC police drama, HAWAII, says he's "blown away" by his upcoming movie role- the baron in MEMOIRS OF A GEISHA. "I'm just kind of floating right now," he said from the set of HAWAII. MEMOIRS OF A GEISHA, directed by Rob Marshall, stars Michelle Yeoh, Zhang Ziyi and Ken Watanabe. The movie is based on the best selling 1997 book, which chronicles a young girl's rise from poverty in a Japanese fishing village to a life in high society. Tagawa previously appeared in the films PEARL HARBOR and PLANET OF THE APES.
