Subject: POTA TV View-Master booklet online
.html
I found a site I thought some of the group might be interested in
looking at. They have scans of the pages of View-Master story
booklets that accompanied the old 3-D reel packs. Below is the link
for the POTA TV View-Master story booklet. What is unique about this
View-Master booklet is that it is the only written version of
episode 1, other than the script. The novelizations did not cover
ep. 1 with Farrow, Arno, Prefect Veska, et al.

Colating sucks! But, I love this movie! It will be sorted as I am
doing this evening (or morning to some of us). As I have stressed in
the past, I am a night owl. Night is morning and morning is night.
Bits and pieces are falling in and as I put them back in order,
I get the strangest feeling that I am falling deeper into the city of
Derkein.
Probably killed, I would at least give it a good try to befriend
my simian cousins... After all, if they understood, then they know
that we are 99.9% DNA. The power of speech in the great ape is but a
step away. Consider the evolution; we absorbed the neanderthal
through inter-breeding...
If you all are really into the apes, you did your homework...
Who is to say where it could be in a thousand years?
Nostradomas had a vision...
Did Pierre Boulle...?

No risk of fruit-pelting here, I'd rather watch Time of the Apes than
Burton's disaster any day of the week. Anyway, to answer your question -
there is a guy who sells them on eBay claiming that they are Asian imports
(remastered in 5.1 sound!). Don't know if they are genuine or bootlegs but
I'll give him this, his presentation is very convincing.

For an example, log into eBay and search through the COMPLETED items for
item number 6326258418. (There weren't any for auction currently at the time
I checked)

Has anyone here ordered a copy?

I wonder if anybody here would care to join me in the Yahoo group:

kingkongtribute@yahoogroups.com

I've been there awhile, but this group needs help, especially by other apes
fanatics. There's also a bunch of buttheads there that refuse to acknowledge
any sexual symbolism in the original KING KONG (1933). Now you know how we
POTA fans love to discuss the allegory in POTA, well some KING KONG fans need to
get hip. So, with a remake of the monkey classic just around the corner we
POTA fans could tell these guys maybe they shouldn't get too excited.

Join if you like talking about KONG.

Better than that, get over to anyone "selling" or "trading" episodes of Mystery Science Theater 3000. Rob does a GREAT time destroying Time of the Apes.

Here's a link I used to get it (I have NO affiliation with this site)...

Orangs are the only species that can show emotion as we do. But the
chimpanzee is our closest link.
If we could get them to trust us, would they speak?
The ability is within them. Perhaps Ari was correct when she
said maybe our apes simply refused to talk considering the way we
treat them.
It is time they did if they can...
Their time is so precious here, and every day their extinction
grows ever closer!
The forests of Borneo, where the orangutan lives is all but non-
existant!
For God's sake, the white rhino is extinct in the wild thanks to
our species!
Sad but true, I believe the apes do, indeed deserve to govern
this planet. At least they would be more --- Humane(?)!
How will we describe the tiger to our grand children? In a
picture book beginning with: "Once upon a time"?
Not to mention our gorillas...!
That is so disgusting what the poachers do to them..."Need an
ashtray?"

Hi John,

If you're broadminded it's certainly worth a watch at least. If you are of the type
that won't tolerate anything that isn't pure blood POTA then it's probably best
avoided.

It's NOT POTA but is obviously (cough cough) 'inspired' by. Some hate it,
some prefer it to the Burton version and some love it.

Hi, just notice that the illustration in the corner of B4 appears to
be Jonesy (titled "The space ship chronometer reads 3085 A.D.").
Perhaps our only illustration of him alive - is that an automatic
homing beacon he is reaching for?

Or perhaps he decided to "play dead" when he woke up and found some
talking apes entering the cockpit. Once they left he looked up
checked his chronometer and said "I think it is time I am out of
here", sneaking out before the gorillas return to bury him.

Subject: Murdoch Gives (Very) Green Light to Fox

Oh! That Aussie who owns Fox! Can't fellow Aussie Michael Whitty get this
guy to do anything with APES?

Murdoch Gives (Very) Green Light to Fox

Saying that News Corp's Fox Entertainment Group is "on a great streak," News
Corp Chairman Rupert Murdoch said Tuesday that the company plans to increase
production at its 20th Century Fox film studio and its Fox Searchlight Unit.
The studio, which released 11 films during it last fiscal year, has been given
the go-ahead to turn out 20-25 films in the current fiscal year, while
Searchlight, which released 8, will raise its total to 11. Murdoch indicated that his
decision to increase production was based largely on the performance of The
Day After Tomorrow, which was responsible for $540 million in ticket sales
worldwide, and I, Robot, which pulled in more than $314 million.

News Corp May Buy Up Fox Entertainment Shares
News Corp is likely to buy out the 18 percent of Fox Entertainment Group that
it doesn't already own, its chairman, Rupert Murdoch, said Tuesday. He added
that at Fox's current market price, about $5 billion, "Fox would be very
cheap." However, Murdoch told the Goldman Sachs investors conference that News Corp
is "not in a hurry" to accomplish the buy-out. It may be hinged, analysts
said, to the success -- or failure -- of Murdoch's ability to win approval from
Australian investors to move News Corp's corporate headquarters from Australia
to the U.S.

After searching for it for a while, I just bought this last week
(Ebay), received it monday, and watched it that very night.

There are a few guys who regularly sell it for $10 or more but I
waited a while and managed to snag an Ebay auction for $7.99. He also
happened to be a fellow Canadian. Shipping was only $2.50 and that
applied to US bidders too.

It's definitely a B-grade campy movie, but I have to admit it was
kinda fun.

PS: This movie was made by splicing together a Japanese TV series
called "Saru No Gundam". Not sure how much more of the entire series
is available, but this movie is all that appears to be available.

the vivisection industry is a billion dollar operation that involves mass breeding of various primates.

so, they may become extinct in the wild, but they will remain in the laboratories.
really it should be the other way around, but as we know: "alone among god's primates he kills for sport or lust or GREED.
cutting up animals is not science; and its also very mean.

It's definitely a knock off. The DVD Cover is nicely made, but the DVD

Here's a link to an identical copy on Ebay now:

It played fine on my DVD player.

Finally, some Time of the Apes action around here! I always feel

TOTA is indeed a spliced together "movie" from 28 hour-length
serialized episodes from 1974. The series is called Saru no Gundan
and the official English title for the series is "Army of the Apes".
The entire series was released on videocassette and laserdisc in
Japan in 1997. Unfortunately, despite their promotional material and
posters being bilingual (Japanese-English), the VHS and laserdiscs
were in Japanese only, with no subtitles. I have found two episode
guides on the internet, both in Japanese. With a cheap and very poor
machine translator that I got off eBay, I was able to get the gist
of each episode guide. When you add that to the visuals, you can
understand what is happening in each episode, minus all the dialog!
One of the US sellers of the complete series on dvd offers a service
to subtitle anything you want, for a price. I bought them just in
the Japanese.

Hi Chris,
The Mystery Science Theater 3000 talk-over version of Time of the
Apes is priceless, and a must have for anyone who appreciates TOTA.
They trash the film mercilessly, but it deserves it! And I say that
as someone who enjoys TOTA. When I first saw TOTA, I was just
confused, and it really doesn't make much sense until you see the
whole 28 episodes from which TOTA is taken.

Hi Terry,
Although Time of the Apes makes no overt pretence of being in the
same universe as Cornelius, Zira, and the rest, I agree that it is
very intriguing. As fans we haven't given this tv series the
interest it deserves. That's mostly the company's fault, though,
since they have never released the series with subtitles and have
denied themselves the large English-speaking market for Saru no
Gundan/Army of the Apes. No country other than Japan has made POTA
type movie or series, so that makes Army of the Apes and Time of the
Apes that much more unique. We need some Japanese Apes fans on this
group so they can tell us what they think of Saru no Gundan!

I was just looking through the Internet Movie Database pages

listing. They had Charlton Heston listed as the uncredited role
of "Zaius, Thade's father". I don't recall Thade's father being
called Zaius anywhere in the film, nor in the script book that was
commercially available. Certainly, the EU novelizations based on the
world of New Hope use the name Zaius for a character, so it exists.
But is there evidence anywhere to suggest that Thade's father had a
name, and that it was Zaius?

Interesting that Zaius it shows up somewhere else. But it is also
possible that the book (what's the title?) got its info from the
Internet Movie Database, and the IMDB is not always correct. I have
sent in several corrections to the IMDB people over time. Hopefully
I haven't made any mistakes, because they have usually accepted
whatever I told them and updated their entries accordingly. So, if
the IMDB got faulty info on Heston's character, they would accept it
as correct until informed otherwise. In the meantime, people reading
the IMDB assume everything is correct.

posters being bilingual (Japanese-English), the VHS and laserdiscs
were in Japanese only, with no subtitles.

Well I'm pleased that the general atttitude towards 'Time of the
apes' is fairly positive. Okay, it's hardly Academy award winning
material, but I have a soft spot for it too - which makes me
wonder...

If Burton's POTA had been called something else - 'The Visitor'
perhaps? - and had not been sold as a 're-imagining' would we
have been more tolerant towards it?

Hi Dave,
I think you're right. POTA was too much to live up to, and Burton's
movie did very poorly at the attempt to live up to the name. I agree
that if he had called it something else, I might have thought better
of the effort.

I think so. I still can't imagine considering it a good film, because it's
not, but I think people would have gone to see it more out of curiosity than
expectation or loyalty. The worst that would have happened, I think, is that
people would have slagged it off for being a PotA rip-off. But even that is
letting it off lightly compared to the savaging it has taken from Apes fans
because it stuck to the PotA name.

I don't think Fox was as big a corporate entity in the '70's and the POTA
era had ended around the time of "Time of the Apes". Plus, it was a Japanese
production so maybe they decided why bother.
I don't know how serious McFarlane was with his TV show. I remember a
quote where he said he was a POTA fan and if Fox wasn't going to get their
act together with the new movie, he'd do his own POTA. He could've probably
done it if it was different enough (I can't really think of anything
McFarlane has produced in movies or TV except some "Spawn" things). Maybe he
was just trying to kick start it as a fan, and it worked. About a week later
Fox announced they were moving ahead on what became POTA2001. - - - Jeff

I don't think so. A bad movie is a bad movie. "Time of the Apes" is fun
because it's obviously a low-budget exploitation movie. Burton has a lot of
resources and talent at his disposal. Just as people love the old Adam West
"Batman" show because it's cheesy and fun. But when Joel Schumacher tried to
get campy on a big budget, people hated it.
Actually I think we would've hated it more. If Burton did a bad POTA movie
called "The Visitor" it would've been like a rip-off. Good or bad, at least
POTA got credit and we got a new POTA era. Hype over POTA2001 at least
brought attention to the originals and let people revisit them or see them
for the first time. The new POTA movie was simmering for about a decade and
led to a lot of attention for POTA, including "Behind the POTA", maybe
things like the Medicoms, etc. Just like 'Star Wars" kinda dipped in
popularity until Lucas announced he was going to make new ones. He announced
that around 1995 and the first one didn't come out until 1999 and until then
"Star Wars" popularity grew by leaps and bounds. - - - Jeff

It's actually a very good book. Each Burton film is organized into
different sections ("Publicity", "Casting", "Reviews", etc.) so it's easy to
look up an aspect of his films. It's called "Tim Burton", it's a 2002 U.K.
book that is available here at Virgin Megastore under their own publishing
division. I was planning on commenting on the POTA2001 section later. They
seemed to do their research and not just get their info from the internet.
Martin Landau wrote the Forward and production designer Rick Heinrichs did
the Afterward. The authors are obviously Burton fans. It goes into great
detail on his short films, etc. - - - Jeff

Fox has announced the Season 5 DVD of "The Simpsons", for Dec. 21. This season included "Rosebud" and "Deep Space Homer", which have POTA references. The POTA musical was in Season 7, which might turn up in 2005 at this rate. "Simpsons" is the best-selling TV show on DVD and has helped make Fox the top dog of TV show DVD.
The Sept. 2004 issue of "Lee's Toy Review" has a picture guide to all the "Simpsons" toys put out by Playmates (including "Deep Space Homer" and "Rosebud'), as well as pics of Sideshow's "Forbidden Zone Taylor" and the Taylor/Nova 2-pack. - - - Jeff

Extras will include episode commentaries (including Ted Post; when's he gonna do one for "Beneath"?); isolated music scores (including Jerry Goldsmith). And Rod Serling extras (outtakes; a lecture at Sherwood Oaks College). And the distributor says these are remastered high definition transfers from the original negatives and soundtracks. Hi Elaine. For me, I am able to pick out certain things about the
film and its production that I like, but as a whole it lacks meat on
the bones.

I love the costume designs by Atwood, and she deserved her Oscar.
But the moviemaking technique did not display them well. The
lighting was intentionally dark, and the scenes in the city of
Derkein were so fleeting (I think you can count them in
milliseconds) that they do Atwood's work an injustice. I appreciate
her design mostly because of the stuff I have seen on the internet,
in Salisbury's book on the making of PA01, or in my trading card
set. Some of Atwood's motifs made it into the novellas by Whitman as
well, and they are very cool.

PA01 gave me a set of 5 novels and some comics that I enjoy, and a
new ape world to get into.

The remake did not win any Oscars, nor was it nominated for any. Fox
thought it might be nominated for makeup and music and took out ads but it
wasn't. Colleen Atwood won an Oscar later for "Chicago".
There was a lot of hard work put into the movie and I like a lot of the
efforts - - makeup, costumes, lighting, sets (except the main set) - - but
it's all for nothing in the end. It's just an average movie and that's a
waste. A little more care and it could've been a classic. Can't just blame
the writers, they had an awful track record so whoever hired them (probably
producer Ralph Winter, who hired them for the remake of "Mighty Joe Young",
which also sucked) can take credit for that. The studio is to blame for poor
scheduling and for not trying to understand the appeal of the movies they
were remaking; Richard Zanuck is to blame because after all his experience
as a moviemaker he should've known better; and Tim Burton is to blame
because of his name value he could've righted this course ("You want me to
direct this, we're going to talk turkey"). No, none of us can say with
certainty we'd have done a better job. There's many outside factors. But if
I was in the hot seat I hope I would have had better judgement. - - - Jeff

I agree, the movie did not do justice to the costumes. That's one of the
reasons I enjoy the "Making of"s on the DVD more than the movie itself. For
one thing Burton's shot are too tight, better suited for TV. I liked the
darkness of the look, that's where Burton thrives. I have no problem with it
being different from the original, but bad storytelling is bad

a valuable question.

also worth considering (maybe):
like "phantom menace" and "alien vs predator" the pota 2001 movie looked great when i saw previews and production stills.
yet when viewed as a completed movie, all three seemed to lack a "soul"

also, all three took FOREVER to make (as in: endless pre-pro changes/negotiations)

not sure what all this means, though.

rob/ron

ps-around the time of pota2001, two other movies came out (both based on hg wells novels): time machine, and island of dr moreau. they both reminded me of pota, but i liked they way better than the pota remake.
and it just ocurred to me that all three were remakes...

Hi Dave,
I think you're right. POTA was too much to live up to, and Burton's
movie did very poorly at the attempt to live up to the name. I agree
that if he had called it something else, I might have thought better

Hi Jeff,
Thanks for the correction on the Oscar bit. Wishful thinking on our
parts. I remember Atwood getting up to get an Oscar for design, so
it must have been for Chicago. Her work on Apes was phenomenal,
though, and had it been showcased well, and properly lit (!),
someone might even have taken notice! I know that Burton likes the
idea of making things dark and brooding, but found myself thinking
that an occasional candle or extra lightbulb on the set would have
improved my viewing experience. I would love to have got to know a
little more about city life among the apes. For example, I know more
about the ape monks from the Topps trading cards than I gleaned from
the movie. In fact, I don't think I even knew there were ape monks
in the movie until I got the cards!

Also didn't they already release all of the Twilight zone episodes? Amazon
has many for sale, as does Ebay.

Do you know how many Seasons were made of the Twighlight Zone?

Thanks

Yes, "Twilight Zone" was available on DVD as individual episodes. In one
of those, I think Vol. 23 you can get both Roddy's episode, "People Are
Alike All over" (which has a POTA flavor) and Natalie Trundy's 1-hour
episode. The original "Star Trek" also was released as individual episodes.
But that was before season sets became the rage. Now both "Star Trek" and TZ
are coming out in season sets for over $ 100 each. - - - Jeff

I think Colleen Atwood and Rick Baker were nominated for BAFTRA awards
(British Oscars) but didn't win. "Makeup Artist" magazine did a poll of it's
readers (who generally know something about makeup) to pick the 100 greatest
films in makeup. "Frankenstein" was # 1, the original POTA was # 2 and
Baker's POTA was # 10. - - - Jeff

Yes, some of them several times now. Typical studio behavior here.
Release it, then "remaster it" or add commentaries or bonus material
and re-release it again! And again! Just as they did with "Planet of
the Apes."

Best Buy and other places usually price these at around $83, from my
observations.

Subject: "Tim Burton" and POTA2001
.html
I found a book called "Tim Burton" by Jim Smith and J. Clive Matthews. It's a U.K. book from 2002 and I guess it's available here from Virgin Megastore on their own publishing label. It's a good book, well organized with the chapters on each of his film subdivided under topics like "Source Material", "Plot Problems" "Critics", etc. It's easy for Burton fans to grab it and quickly find out about an aspect of one of his films. There's even chapters on his short films and his 2000 internet cartoon series "Stainboy". The authors know their stuff and are obviously fans. There's a forward by actor Martin Landau and an afterword by production designer Rick Heinrichs. Landau says the hardest question he gets asked is: "What is Tim Burton like?" His answer: "I can't really tell you what he's like! I can only tell you what he ISN'T like. He isn't like anyone I've ever known or worked with before. He isn't like anyone I ever expect to meet again. He doesn't see things the same way anyone else in the world sees the same thing. His vision is his alone: unique and different enough to make anyone who is allowed the gift of witnessing it, wonder how any living human being could conjure up such a vision... one would be hard - pressed to name another filmmaker in the hollywood mainstream, working regularly within the system creating big and expensive studio films, who chooses only to work on projects that attract his sensibilities and arouse his own special predilections and personal tastes. There is no other filmmaker with the latitude that Tim enjoys".
I went through the 24 pgs. of the book on POTA2001 and here's some random bits I thought I'd share:

BURTON: "All the moments I've fought for are the shining ones in every movie I've directed".
The authors say the crashed Oberon looks from behind like the Statue of Liberty (anyone see it?) "This is a subtle and devious piece of production design from Rick Heinrichs, hinting at something that does not come to pass".
BURTON: "I had to think about doing this movie. The original was a classic and I didn't want to do a remake. But I was intrigued by the mythology of a reverse world".
BURTON: "What this movie should do is put new images to unanswerable questions - the ones we all love to talk about and none of us have the answer to" (I agree, but did Burton succeed?)
GLENN SHADDIX (Sen. Nado): "He keeps the pressure that comes to bear on him away from the actors, so that we don't have to feel the pressure HE'S under - - and Tim was under, I think, more pressure on POTA than he's ever been under on any film. By the time it was over, Tim looked like he had been hit by a truck and I think he felt much the same way".
BURTON: "It's a ridiculous kind of schedule. It took longer to greenlight than to make, but that's the way things happen on movies like this. They're such big monsters that it takes an unnatural act to get them going and keep them moving".
SHADDIX: "It was put together and released on a schedule that was more concerned with the commercial aspects than anything else, because it was pushed for a summer release".
BURTON: "Every day was an experiment. These big fantasy films require constant daily exploration. We can sit around in a room like this talking about apes but it's a different storywhen you're on the set. You need to experiment to see what works".
BURTON: "The responsibility of having this crew of over 100 men waiting to shoot something unwritten was quite upsetting. Once you start shooting, you just can't be at that stage (of writing)...I'm never going to let that happen again".
Towards the end of shooting it reportedly had 3 camera crews and a mobile editing unit. It finished on schedule and slightly under budget.
BURTON: "I don't think about the comparisons (to the original) 'cause that'll just be a nightmare".
MARK WAHLBERG: "There was no script. I didn't need one. When you have a guy like Tim Burton, people come".
CHARLTON HESTON: "I have to say it helped a good deal when (Richard Zanuck) said there would be a large sum of money involved (for the role). But Burton is pretty good at his job and I think he's come up with an excellent movie".
MATT RADZ (reviewer, the Montreal Gazette): "some of the best space sequences since Stanley Kubrick...POTA is Hollywood at it's very best - - the perfect marriage of awesome big-screen technology and storytelling excitement". (7/27/01)
VARIETY: "Largely listless and witless, (not) very exciting or imaginative; most surprisingly, given the material, it is also Burton's most conventional and literal-minded film, the one most lacking in his trademark poetic weirdness and bracing flights of fancy".
SIGHT AND SOUND: "Burton's shallowness and cavalier attitude towards story are at least partly responsible for turning him into a hired hand".
Director of photography Phillippe Rousselot met Burton on the aborted "Mary Reilly" film (it was directed by someone else) and they first worked together on POTA. Since then he's done every Burton film, "Big Fish" and the current "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory". He used special Polarized lenses adapted from still photography to achieve an otherworldly look. It was very complex to shoot that way and because of the rapid schedule it didn't always work.
QUESTIONS: What happened to the gorillas who were with Limbo when Leo captures him in the jungle? (They take Limbo as a hostage so he can't squeal on them, but what's the diff if the gorillas can?) Why did Pericles have a gun he can't use? (the one Leo uses to fight Thade at the end) Of course there's more questions than this but these are two in the book I hadn't thought of or heard before.
AUTHORS: "People die left, right and center, but there's no real feeling to the fatalities. None of the characters are given enough personality for us to mourn their passing".
BURTON: "As I got into it, I started thinking, well, here's a guy who doesn't really want to be here (Leo), he's trying to get out, he's got this huge responsibility that just keeps getting bigger and bigger and bigger, and finally he has to end up dealing with it, and I kind of related that to...making this movie".
BRUCE SNYDER (Fox head of distribution): "If the truth be known, (the ending) wasn't really supposed to make sense. It was just supposed to go "whoa", make you think...It's whatever you want it to be...but you've got to remember you just watched a movie about talking monkeys in outer space. Don't look for too much logic, you know?" (We know, Bruce. The box office isn't supposed to make sense either. Don't look for too much money, you know?)
The DVD and VHS made $ 80 million it's first week.
The film was nominated for Best costume Design at the 2002 Golden Satellite Awards; nominated for Best Soundtrack Album at the Grammys; Rick Baker won a Special Achievement Award at the Las Vegas Film Critics Society (my add: it was nominated for Best Costumes and Best Makeup at the BAFTA awards; "Make Up Artist" magazine readers chose it # 10 of all -time makeup achievements in film)
RICK HEINRICHS (production design): "POTA was a challenge for us all on many levels and a very gratifying experience for me".

Many years ago in Ape Chronicles I reprinted 2 complete tv scripts that were "unused" but supposed to be credited to Rod Serling

Anybody clarify which episode/stories these are:

I printed this back in 1993 = Script #1 opens with VIRDON / KOVAK (diff version of pilot episode??)
I printed this back in 1994 = Script #2 opens with 3 gorillas: AKOR / BANDO / CONDOR

You can see which issues these were printed in at

I never bought any, but Playmates "Simpsons" figures had an incredibly varied and long life. Many POTA fans, including myself, hoped they'd get around to a POTA musical figure or set, but they never did. No Dr. Zauis, Dr. Zauis. No Zira in a nurse's uniform. Now it's all over. Many department stores advertised POTA products for the xmas of 1975
was this because the line was still being pushed
or was it simply that stock was still on hand and so the stores advertised them as hot property for the xmas market rather than the "bargain bins" ??

Of other news France didnt start publishing their monthly POTA comic magazine until 1978 ? any ideas on that!!

To Elaine;
The book I am referring to has not yet been picked up by a
publisher, and I continue to try, but as I wait, I am getting it all
back in order since my pc took a nose-dive. And I am like you. I
liked Thade and his evil little temper. He was worth watching and
they who made the movie studied the apes because it is indeed the
chimpanzee that proves to be the most dangerous and unpredictable in
their actions. The gorilla is actually the most docile only attacking
if provoked...
But, back to what I mainly took the time out here to write...
Fan Fiction will probably end up with my book. It is over 300
pages long and is strewn all over my pc. It has taken hours of
painstaking file searches just to turn up maybe ten pages here or
three or four there. So far I have recovered fifty-seven so I am
closing in on it...

Hi Terry,
My only knowledge of this is from personal impressions, and I would
tend to agree with your speculation about generalist Mego collectors
perhaps bumping up the market for POTA figures. I think there are a
lot of collectors out there for Mego stuff who would certainly
include POTA in their searches. Judging from some of the Mego-
specific winners' user names on eBay auctions that I have lost, I
would say that there are many Mego collectors out there who provide
a market for POTA figures.

Yes, I thought Thade was more realistic with his temper. It has been observed
that chimps are not always docile. I thought pota 2001 had the apes act more
like apes. Does Fanfiction

has anybody documented at all a comparison between one figure to another at

this could either give us an idea of how many were sold or at least how many

I've never heard of any 12" action figures, but there were a couple
of what I would call "dolls" about a foot tall released during the
Ape-mania thing in the '70s. One was a blue-suited Dr. Zaius and the
other was a Cornelius or Galen. They had really fluffy hair on their
heads and doll-like faces.

Are you talking about the Hasbro 12" dolls a few years ago?...There
was a Dr. Zaius, Cornelius (the picture had him in blue), Zira,
Taylor astronaut, General Ursus, Gorilla Sergeant and a "red" Gorilla
Soldier...They weren't Sideshow Collectibles, but they were great for
the time...

Alas, I must disappear for a while...
My writing calls strongly and I must answer or face madness...
It will be many a day that I acknowledge anyone...
Time to vanish...
To Elaine;
It will show when all least expect...
Watch...
As with you. my vision lies within words...
Do not ever give up...
Nor give in...

I bought one of those dolls off of ebay, I think it is Cornelius. He is
wearing a brown suit. Elaine

Both of these scripts are on Hunter's site. As far as I know they were only known as Episode 1 and Episode 2, respectively.

You can see which issues these were printed in at

my mind can possibly be cloudy after 21 years
but i would swear that the "Urko" figure I saw was 12" and had a hard helmet
did the 8" inch mego gorillas ever have hard helmets?

+++ Dave -- the section "How to find the crash site at Lake Powell"
is, I think, a thing of beauty.

In my business I have film crews going out to that part of the world
all the time. Maybe one day this stay-at-home-editor will be able
to blag a trip with them....
